Noch immer versuchen die Supermächte, Perry Rhodan und seine Mitstreiter mit allem, was das militärische Herz höher schlagen lässt, tief ins Jenseits zu bomben. Aber nicht nur die arkonidische Technik kommt Perry zu Hilfe, sondern auch Mutanten, die nach den Atombombenabwürfen 1945 geboren wurden und nun als Erwachsene ihre Fähigkeiten entdecken und beherrschen lernen:
John Marshall (Telepath), Anne Sloane (Telekinetin, die hier noch nicht in Aktion tritt), Ras Tschubai (Teleporter, ebenfalls noch nicht für Perry in Aktion getreten), Ernst Ellert (Teletemporation, also Reise durch die Zeit mit Hilfe des Geistes, bislang nur vorgestellt) und Taka Takuta (Teleporter).
Insgesamt kann Perry feststellen, dass inzwischen viele Menschen hinter ihm stehen, auch wenn sie es noch nicht offen zugeben können oder wollen.
Mittels Psychoschulung werden Perry und Bully von Crest upgedatet auf arkonidisches Niveau, auch wenn Darlton das noch manchmal vergisst und Perry dumme Fragen stellen lässt, die er sich nun eigentlich selbst beantworten kann.

Besonders gefallen hat mir die Szene, in der der Mutanten und Schriftsteller Ernst Ellert vorgestellt wird, hinter dem sich einer der Mitautoren des PR-Teams verbergen dürfte. Das geschilderte Ratschtreffen in München ("Sie feierten den Geburtstag von Jonny, dem stets arbeitswütigen Maler", das sollte Johnny Bruck sein) spiegelt so ganz den "Nachkriegscharme" jener frühen Jahre; da wird geraucht und getrunken und versucht, "fünf Mark" zu leihen.
Darlton wird seinen Spaß daran gehabt haben, hier das Team zu verewigen.

i'm confused how this book fits in since it's listed as 2b, but it's in the list and it makes sense in terms of narrative continuity, so i read it. it's been the worst so far of all the books, frankly.

so the alien spaceship is destroyed, Rhodan has decided to build new tech with Khrest and Thora as the sole survivors, and the agencies are still trying to blow up the dome with Allan D. Merchant (apparently it's important to say his full name with middle initial every time he's mentioned), side-plotting to let Rhodan get away with pretty much whatever he wants because, you know, he saved the world from nuclear annihilation by being a threat bigger than any other power on Earth. way to go Rhodan! what a hero!

this book digresses to introduce a concept of mutants (people with telekinesis, who can teleport, read minds, etc.). it's a very lengthy digression (seriously: like 25 pages worth of digression in an already slim book). and only two of the characters actually make it to the dome (as of yet).

oh, also Khrest downloaded all the knowledge in the universe into Rhodan's head, so if he wasn't already insufferable before, now you just want to spoon your own brains out of your own head to get away from him.

seriously: the characters in these books are the absolute worst.

and the plot barely even makes any sense.

let's see if the next book improves this situation (highly doubtful).

Great read! The cast of characters gets bigger and things finally start looking up for Perry and crew.

Um ataque combinado com novas armas nucleares que não são afectadas pela tecnologia arcónida destrói a nave arcónida despenhada na lua. Thora sobrevive porque decidiu dirigir-se numa nave auxiliar à Terra para ver o estado de Khrest, curado da leucemia. As pressões dos governos terrestres não diminuem, e os arcónidas sobreviventes serão forçados a aprofundar a aliança com Rhodan para que conjugando ciência arcónida e indústria terrestre possam construir uma nova nave interestelar. Incapazes de destruir Rhodan e a Stardust, os governos terrestres tudo fazem para bloquear a chamada terceira potência, mas os agentes enviados sucumbem aos poderes mentais amplificados de Rhodan e tornam-se seus aliados. Um dos tripulantes de Rhodan vai incógnito aos Estados Unidos para adquirir materiais e peças às indústrias, e cruza-se com uma outra força emergente na Terra. Num mundo nuclear, pós-hiroxima, são cada vez mais os indivíduos que demonstram poderes telepáticos.

Stilaan begint dit op een sci-fi reeks te lijken. De ruimteschepen en aliens hadden we al, nu komen er ook speciale krachten bij. Enkele mutanten, telepaten, teleporteur and teletemporeel, maken hun opwachting en blijken het voor Rhodan mogelijk te maken om het onmogelijke te doen.
Het zal een kennismaking voor lange duur zijn.
Stap voor stap krijgt het contact en de samenwerking met de Arkoniden vorm, Crest van het begin wetenschappelijk en positief, Thora vijandig maar je voelt de liefde tussen Rhodan en haar al opbloeien.
Ook de samenwerking in plaats van zelfverrnietiging van de volkeren van de Aarde onder leiding van Perry Rhodan krijgt stilaan vorm op een geloofwaardige manier.
Een verhaal met een positieve boodschap en erg vindingrijk, zeker voor die tijd.

Twilight of the Gods
The stakes are raised in this one as the military plans a surprise attack on Rhodan and his friends. We are also introduced to some mutants which adds a new dimension to the series.
