With the Old Ones' weapons fired up by Hambry's oil, the Affiliation will be wiped out - unless Roland Deschain - the Gunslinger - can intercede in time!
Robin Furth is the personal research assistant to Stephen King and the author of Stephen King's The Dark Tower: A Complete Concordance, which was published by Scribner on December 5, 2006. It is a compilation of her two previous encyclopedic books dealing with King's magnum opus, The Dark Tower: A Concordance, volume I - which explores the first four books in King's series - and A Concordance II, which gives the reader definitions and explanations of pivotal terms used over the course of the final three books of The Dark Tower. She is now currently working on the graphic novel adaptation of the Dark Tower for Marvel Comics.
Having read the books I find that the way they have chosen to break them down into small bites with specific themes works very well. The art work is exceptional and makes it that much more entertaining. The story here is taken from a particular book but is being used to give you a look at the formative years of Roland. He was not always as cold as he later seems.
This is perfect for someone who has not read the books but may want a slower introduction to Mid-World and it's inhabitants.
This was great. We have a confrontation between our Gunslingers with Roland finally realizing what a dumbass he was being. We also have our boys being delivered safely from harm due to Susan stepping up and kicking ass. She would have been a great ruler of Gilead. Her love of Roland has her doing whatever is necessary to keep him safe. Even killing people she saw as friends.
Eldred Jonas sets a trap (murder of the mayor) in order for the town to turn on the Gunslingers and kill them. If I didn't find the mayor so repugnant I would have almost felt sorry for him.
"I hope you don't hate me. I understand if you did. I've come into your plans...And between the three of you, as well...but I couldn't help it. I love him."
I am happy in the end the Gunslingers are joined together again with no split due to Susan. And Alain and Bert even love her a little too. We have Susan and Sheemie foiling plans. And then Eldred going to Rhea of Coos who is being eaten from the inside out due to her obsession with the glowing pink globe. Rhea of course sees what has happened due to Susan and this leaves Susan and the baby she carries in danger.
The extras in this issue give you the backstory to Charyou Tree. I'm going to go ugh here since it was pretty graphic and I thought I could smell something burning. I also love we get more insight into Arthur Eld with these stories. Did King ever published a backstory to Gilead? He needs to. Then the next two extra gets into a Gunslinger's guns and the different levels (Apprentice, Novice, and Gunslinger). Then they go into the Guns of Deschain. We close with the Gunslinger's Litany.
May contain spoilers if you did not read the other five previous comics. The second to last comic in this installment of the Dark Tower graphic novels sets the final stage for the conflict between the Big Coffin Hunters, Farson's lackeys, and the three young gunslingers from Gilead under false names to spy on the town of Hambry.
Susan Delgado has thrown her trust in with the boys from Gilead, completely, and although Eldred Jonas wishes to put an end to the gunslingers prematurely, his plans are sent awry due to her involvement. Rhea, however, ever-focused on the Grapefruit of Maerlyn's Rainbow which is draining what little life she has left to her, insists on helping Jonas just to spite the beauty of the world.
Included in this installment is some more information on the gunslinger's guns, their importance, and how young gunslingers attain them, along with the origins of the concept behind the Charyou Tree, a tradition that is well known to us Dark Tower veterens.
This last graphic novel sets the stage perfectly for what is to come, which is to say nothing good, and truly puts all the pieces together for the traps to be sprung.
Part 6 and story going towards finish nicely. This is the graphic novel format of Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
My dream of being a writer is realized and I am now a Goodreads Author. I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. Doga is one of my most favorite character and I love him to bits and don't leave any chance to devour any of his stories. So here goes again my mission to read as many Raj comics from the beginning. My childhood re-run. I love reading this and more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
