So we're clear--I know I'm in the minority about this serial. Folk like it a lot and dont have the same issues I keep having with it. Thats perfectly reasonable if somewhat lamentable.
This last part was a real hammer to my disbelief though. For one thing why wouldn't Makkon's people be more upset that General Arkt had sold them down the river tick? They seem perfectly happy to hate on Makkon for even considering a peaceful way out of the mess, but Arkt running a deal behind their backs forcing them to consider running away and leaving 75%of their people to die when the bombs come is barely blinked at.
And seriously did it not occur to Tamryn that the military--an instituition she's grownn up in as much as business would figure her to be compromised at best and turned terrorist at worst? NEWLY MINTED JUNIOR COMMUNICATION OFFICERS do not get to be heroes. Unless its Stargate or Star Trek. But they expect a lot more (being elite postings 9 times out out of 10, not postings meant to be punishments). And honestly what is the command hierachy in GalCon? How could her family business, even as a "Finance Lord", beat out the military in a "terrorist" situation? AND do such to potentially ruin the military's ability to continue their research into FTL engines?
Just how capitialist is the future? Can you imagine Apple or Microsoft going to the US Government and being like "Hmm sorry no here's a ton of money so we can negotiate with this terrorist group that has already murdered dozens of your soldiers and taken hostages multiple times." and the gov agreeing?
The less said about Shenta's contingency rule to Tamryn's plan, Makkon silently remarking he totally wasn't thinking about forever from the first moment, Tamryn's brief angst about if he would still find her attractive (for fuck's sake woman SERIOUSLY?) and EVERYTHING involving the resolution the better. Pray excuse me I need to forget I read this and read something of Lionsdrake that I enjoy (MERCENARY INSTINCT for example, which is another captive/kidnapper situation but plays out MUCH differently).
Frost Station Alpha was published in six parts, with new episodes available each week, and should not be read as a standalone. It is available as a Complete Series (Frost Station Alpha, #1-6). This said the following review is for the complete installment. Genetically optimized human race was nuked when the government saw them as a threat. Some of them survived in cryogenic chambers to wake up 150 years later and find themselves starving on a destroyed moon, thus some men go on a bloody mission to blackmail the government for help. They kill all soldiers and kidnap the scientists as well as a communications officer on a nearby space station. While this story definitely does not speak for a very nice group of people, and I have morally a hard time to excuse the decision to kill so many innocent people, the action and romance where just great. Well done!
I am only adding a review for the final installment as you really need to read the entire series as one book. The finale makes it. I would rate 1 through 5 as 3/5 - I liked them; the first maybe even 2 OK from memory. But the finale really brings it together.
Yes there's some leaps & perhaps some shallow points or things that might not quite gel; perhaps not up to par for some other offerings by the Author but overall it's NON-fiction & at face value very enjoyable.
Lionsdrake wraps up her series in a nice way in part 6 Reckoning. The series as a whole should not be missed for science fiction fans. This serial is set in the same universe as Lionsdrake's Mandrake Company books. But you don't need to have read any of those books to understand this series, in fact I read the Mandrake books after I read the first of the Frost Station Alpha series.
I am so happy I found this author as she writes compelling Science Fiction romance. I would have like more time to get to know the greater Glacian population of Glaciem, as this would have made this series for me a five star read. This series had a lot of action, but this last installation is more negotiations and a wrapping up of the love story. I think everyone should put Lionsdrake on there author to read list.
I read this as part of the kindle unlimited program and most all of Lionsdrake's books are part of the program.
Whoa boy, Tamryn has got herself kidnapped again. This time by a greedy and desperate Glacian guy. Makkon has well and truly got her scent now so he can track her anywhere.
Squees happily and rolls around in the ridiculous space fantasy romance. 4 stars
I liked this series a lot, but I wish it was longer and more detailed. For example, I would like to have found out what that sludge was, and how Brax and his friends escaped from the vault, and Tamryn's talk to her grandfather. All of the installments were too short - there was potential for each of them to be an actual book. Oh well.
