She’ll either enslave his heart… or tear it out.
As an Amazon warrior, a slave is the last thing Kyme would ever willingly become. At least before the slaver Arsenius threatens her sisters. To protect them, she agrees to be his captive and plans to slit his throat the moment she gets the chance. Though she’s determined to hate Arsenius, the unexpected kindness of his touch and the growing passion between them stay her knife. He’s a man so dangerous she just might dare to trust him.

He’s endured every torture, except the one that could actually break him.

For Arsenius, his mission was simple—capture and deliver one of the fiercest Amazon warriors, Kyme. In exchange, he’ll receive the location of the sister he’s spent years searching for. But Kyme’s selfless dedication to the goddess Artemis entrances him. Her pure existence is so different from his dark past and the bleak life he now leads. When Kyme becomes master and his heart the slave, nothing will stop Arsenius from failing his mission.

Sometimes, the surest path to freedom is forged in ecstasy…

Possessing Kyme as his slave isn’t enough. Arsenius wants more. When the gods intervene, they’ll risk more than their duty to the past to be together… Yet never has surrender been so sweet.

I will always find you.

This night, this moment, was perfection. HOLY MOUNT OLYMPUS!! What a beautiful, fantastic, romantic, magical & AWESOME story!! This is definitely a story worthy of the gods!! I LOVE my mythology books & Persephone & Hades' story has always captured my heart, regardless who is telling the story or which version it is. Even though this book is not their story nor directly related to it, this one shares the same romantic, intriguing & mystical ambiance & theme. HOLY ZEUS IS THIS EPIC!!! I love that Rachael made this a full novel because anything less would have ruined the magic of it! So many, many twists, surprises & mind games it was crazy! It’s almost impossible to recognize them all, but that was one of the best parts for me! I had no friggin' idea how it was going to end and I was terrified I would have to wait until the next book, or more, before getting the answers I wanted, never mind Kyme & Arsenius' answers! And then when THE one answer DID come, well I was beyond relived, excited, wowed & flabbergasted! It took me forever (or at least it seemed that way!) to read the last 30 pgs or so because I was crying so much I couldn't see through my tears! I read this book from start to end, without stopping! Well except for said crying breaks, of course. That is all a strong testament to Rachael and her ability to create these stories that suck me in so deep until I am living the story as if it is MY story! If only!! I do love my Gods and Demigods! Wink Rachael's powerful story is very well detailed but never too much so, filled with lots of mysteries, games, love, loyalty, Mythical beings of all kinds and much, much more!! The manner in which the story is told, coupled with everything that is a part of this story from the little to the large, all enriches the story by godly proportions. Add in the histories, the numerous Olympians, the storyline that is complex, but not to the point where you can't follow or keep up as well as all of the godly mischief & frustration that the Greeks are well known for throughout the ages you get the perfect amount of depth! EVERYTHING is perfectly balanced! I absolutely loved (yes, I am using that word a LOT with this book!) all of the magics, hints, clues, the 'little' things, that all mean something, sometimes even something significant such as their rings, his lightning bolts, her reference to her godmother, etc. Adds even more depth to the story!! You know how in shifter books, how sometimes the animal has its own personality & can communicate in some form with the human side? Well, Arsenius has a ‘ahem’ part of him that is almost like that. It cracked me so many times! The only 'con' to this is that book 2 isn't out yet!!! But since it looks like there at least 4 more books to come, I can deal with the wait! NOT!!! Before I started this book, I honestly didn't think that I could love any other of Rachael's books as much as I love her Chinese Zodiac Romance Series. WOW!! Was I EVER wrong! No offense to that series, but for me, this book kicks Tiger's butt to the wayside! And I do LOVE the CZR series! But Tiger, Rabbit, Monkey and the gang cannot hold a candle to a Demigod & an Amazon! *dreamy sigh* Good thing I have lots of room in my reading heart for ALL of them! ;) Everything I have mentioned – and everything that I didn’t – all beautifully epitomizes Rachael's ASTRONOMICAL talent! Add in a truly genuine gift, as if from the Gods themselves, and you have one of the best novels I have read in a really long time!! And did you see that BEAUTIFUL cover?!? WOW! Perfectly represents the story!!! All worship at the Temple of Goddess Rachael Slate – Author Extraordinaire!! Hmmm, that didn’t come out quite right. Buy this book and right from page 1 - Be Prepared to be SWEPT AWAY to a time & land where Gods & Goddesses are up to their usual tricks, games & mischief! Get comfy and enjoy the ride!

*ARC in exchange for an honest review *

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
First I want to say, I absolutely love any kind of mythology I can get my hands on, and I prefer it in the romance way, so it was a no brainer, I had to get my hands on this book.
I fell in love with Kyme first thing. She's so strong and sassy that I couldn't help myself. Here's this Amazon, battling with herself and her new captor, Arsenius, and no matter whether she's actually afraid or not, she is still the bravest person in the book to me. Arsenius is a close second, in my favorites. He's strong willed and has a darkened past that just makes you hurt for him. You want to press him to your chest and tell him it's going to get better, but he'd never let you because he's that stubborn and manly. Then there's their connection to one another. There are soulmate and then there are these two. They truly belong together and I fought in my head with them the whole book just to accept my feelings for them. There should be a random tissue warning in a few spots of the book. I wanted to rip my heart out and throw my kindle, not accepting anything, but there IS A HEA, that is very much worth the wait!
Rachael has such a way with words. My emotions were set on a roller coaster and I never want to get off. She takes mythology to a whole new level. I can't wait to see what she has in store for her next project.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It was absolutely captivating!

Rachael Slate proved herself as capable of crafting a tale using Greek mythology as she is using that of the Far East.

Strife among the gods...love itself on the line....what's an Amazon warrior and half--god to do?

Why, whatever they have to, of course.

The action begins with the first page and keeps you riveted through every page after.

The characters are engaging and, at times, infuriating, lending to the sense of their being real people.

The settings are clear without cluttering the page with too much information and you come to know the characters, their histories, their personalities and their destinies in such a way as to feel natural...like getting to know new friends.

You're taken on a wild ride with these new friends, and all their friends and enemies, that will leave you gasping in relief when it is over while at the same time leaving you longing for more.

If you enjoy exciting stories dealing with fantastic races other than humans, petty gods, vengeance seeking heroes and heroines....then this is a book you should definitely put on your To Be Read list!

A Review of Moon Borne by Rachael Slate

Mythology series - 4 stars

Rachael is giving us a new series to dig out teeth into. Kyme is an Amazon warrior, who has never known a man's touch in her 140 years of life. She has sworn her life to her goddess, Artemis. Arsenius is on a mission—to capture Kyme, a fierce Amazon warrior. In exchange for her delivery to his buyer, he will be given information about his sister, who was kidnapped from their home, while he was sold into slavery himself.

They will go through many trials on their trek to his buyer and each will discover that things are not always what they seem to be. Will they be able to give into the love they find and still be able to follow through with what each has deemed to be their pathway in this life? Or, will they find that the gods and goddesses have been having a bit of fun at their expense?

Rachael has a way of bringing her characters to life, so that you feel you are there with them. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. This is a standalone book, with no cliffhangers and well worth the read.

Rachael leaves her Chinese Zodiac Romance series to lay the groundwork on a new series. Set in the world of Myths and monsters but within the narrative of more recent history.

Amazon virgin warrior with a very useful gift granted from her goddess. A demi god trying desperately to save his sister from the slavery he found himself in. So desperate he becomes the very thing he escaped from, a slaver!!! Capturing this Amazon is his ticket to the inner circle of slavers but he didn't expect her to be this captivating or pliant!

Arsenius and Kyme are infuriating, funny, endearing and downright nutty at times. You get sucked into their world quickly and before you know it ancient myths seem that bit more real! Great descriptions of the geography capture your imagination but don't get bogged down or in the way of the story.

A well earned place in my heart!! I'm a historian and I loved the way my favourite myths came to life in Rachaels very capable hands.

You will not be disappointed!!!!

I was given a copy of this in return for an honest review - I don't do any other kind!

Kyme, an Amazon warrior, is captured by Arsenius, a slaver. In return for Kyme's delivery to his unknown client, Arsenius will be told the location of his missing sister. Kyme gives up easily in order to save her Amazon sisters.

Kyme doesn't fit the role of slave nicely, as Arsenius finds out. You can feel the electricity between the main characters...such a build-up of eroticism. Both characters are strong and sassy. They can't help their overwhelming attraction to each other, but Amazons can't fall in love, can they? Kyme knows nothing of love being a virgin warrior, her God-given powers depend on her continuing virginity and she has no intention of losing it!

The book flows nicely and is very easy to read. It is an excellent story that is written really well. Even the minor characters are full and believable. A very enjoyable read into a world full of imagination. I'll have my eye on the sequel when it comes out!

Greek mythology has never been so interesting! Incredibly well written and entertaining, not to mention hard to put down. The characters really come to life as you share their triumphs and failures hoping their ending will be happy. Kyme is an Amazon warrior devoted to Artemis, her Queen, and people, she believes her race incapable of love for a male until, despite her best efforts, Arsenius gets under her skin. But the question is can a man incapable of being loved teach a woman incapable of loving to love? Whether you’re into Mythology or just Romance you have to read this book!

This story holds a special place in me. I love stories that are based on the gods and goddess of Greek mythology. In this story Kyme is an amazon warrior and Arsenius is the son of Aries. Arsenius is hired to capture Kyme, at first sight he realizes that she is his mate. He keeps his feelings hid the best he can but their attraction to each other proves to much. As they enbark on their journey they many things happen to try to draw them apart. Will love prevail or are the to be lonely forever. read this great book if you want to find out.

I just love stories based on Greek mythology. If you do too, this is one to read.
Kyme is an Amazon warrior and Arsenius is the son of Aries. His sister has been captured and he will do anything to save her. He must capture Kyme. Arsenius realizes that Kyme is his mate. While Kyme vows to kill Arsenius, she discovers that she has feelings for him. Could he be her mate? There are many twists & turns as Arsenius trys to bring Kyme to those who have his sister. Will they fall in love along the way or will they succumb to the many obstacles designed to keep them apart?

Another great book by this author. You are submersed into the world that has been created. The characters jump out and you can feel their internal struggles as they face each difficult situation. I'm interested to read the next book to see how the underlying problem is resolved. A book to read again.

Moon Borne was an amazing read. It had everything for a romance. Kidnapping (what's romance without being kidnapped), Gods, a Love story within a love story. Enjoyed the adventure that was taken all the way to the end. A must read that will definitely be reread again and again.

This book was received as an advanced reader copy, in exchange only for an honest review. Ms. Slate has moved from Chinese mythological romance to Greek Mythology. She can write whichever period/mythology she would like, as this Halcyon series was as every bit as captivating as her first.
The very beginning starts out with action of Arsenius capturing Kyme an Amazon warrior. It isn't hard to see she wants nothing more than to kill him to protect her warrior sisters. Asrenius' motives aren't as clear in the beginning other then wanting to save his sister. Soon he does realize Kyme is or should be rather his mate. Amazons, don't take mates, so she denies anything of the sort.
Together they find a way to work towards a common goal of helping him rescue his sister. Will she give into what she thinks might be love, or remain a warrior and kill him as she's planned all along? I won't be a spoiler, so I won't tell. Read Moon Borne for yourself, and you will find that just like the Chinese Zodiac Romance Series, you will not have read another Greek Myth book like this one. For those who aren't avid Greek Myth followers, Ms. Slate includes just the right amount of history and understanding, so you won't be lost. If you love Percy Jackson for YA, let's say The Halcyon Series is the untold grown ups version that leaves you highly anticipating book two in the series. 5/5 Cross posting to My Reading Reality and Baps Book Blog

I had received this for an honest review. This is the first book I have ever read of Rachael Slate.

Kyme who worshipped the goddess of Artemis had vowed she would stay a virgin in exchange the goddess gave Kyme a very special gift. Kyme was an amazon warrior. Though her sister knows what it is like to be desired by men Kyme does not. She has had a very lonely life. Men just did not look her way. Not that it would matter because to be an amazon warrior meant that you would never know the feeling love. For the amazon woman were incapable of love.

Arsenius was a slaver. He has had a very dark past. As the layers of Arsenius past surface you can not help but your heart break for him. He has truly been thru so much. He has a chance to find his beloved missing sister. All he must do is capture Kyme and sell her to the buyer. Easy right.

Arsenius finds that he is not only attracted to Kyme but has great respect for her as well. He admires her devotion to her goddess and the fight that is within her. Kyme is finding that there is more to Arsenius then meets the eye. Now she finds her self a slave and things not going to plan.

Feelings grow between Arsenius and Kyme. They are faced with one danger after another. Can Arsenius see her when the time is right?

What a great kick off to Rachael's new series. I'm already so in love with this series. She weaves a magical tale with suspense and romance. We have so many different mythical beings we meet in this one. At first I wasn't sure about Arsenuis, but I was quickly won over. He gives off the attitude nothing is important or meaningful to him, but has you read on you'll understand why he does that. You get ensnared right from the beginning when Arsenuis a slaver kidnaps Kyme. Kyme is a beautiful Amazon warrior with a special ability that somebody finds worth buying for. Soon aboard a pirate ship on course to be sold to the buyer Kyme gets the adventure of a lifetime. She also sees what lays beneath the public persona of Arsenuis. There is an ulterior motive for Arsenuis capturing Kyme, but soon lines get blurred and she may be able to help with his mission. Amazon warriors do not mate and must go back to train, but Kyme soon comes to realize Arsenuis may be worth the risk. With their fate is a few goddesses' hands can they make it or be torn apart forever?

This is a very excellent book that is the start of a fun series. Actually, I read book 2 first, then read book 1. I don't at all recommend that. They're much more fun read in order. They're not continued, but they do build upon each other.

This book will draw you in and hold your interest. It has vivid characters and excellent writing with a unique story. If you are fond of the Greek myths, you will love this book. I know I did.

* I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review, which was originally posted on book blog Will Read for Feels.

When Rachael Slate announced that she would be launching the first book in her Halcyon series, Moon Borne, not a year after she launched her debut novel and the first book in her Chinese Zodiac romance series, Trancing the Tiger, I will admit I wondered if it would be just as good. I needn’t have, though—after racing through it, I have to say it’s even better.

First off, I should mention that I wasn’t surprised at how immersive and just plain fun Slate’s world building is here; after all, in the Chinese Zodiac series, she set her characters in a world devastated by plague and featured a complex and secret power struggle played out by living, breathing avatars of Chinese astrological signs. The texture and nature of the world, thanks to the heavy dose of Greek mythology applied to it, appeals to the Xena: Warrior Princess fan in me, but the feel of it seems halfway between Buffy and Firefly, thanks to the intertwining of brutality, romantic optimism, and social commentary the entire premise behind the series seems to hold. Not that I can reveal exactly what that is without spoilers, but trust me, when you do learn it, you’ll be wondering why the next book isn’t immediately available so you can find out more about how things play out.

Next were the characters; at first, I found both Arsenius and Kyme somewhat simplistic characters, single-minded in their missions, regardless of whether they were at cross purposes. But then as Slate began to reveal more facets of their characters and the circumstances that shaped them both to the reader and to each other, they became more and more complex—and more and more interesting. I loved that both are warriors with a purpose bigger than themselves; they start out quite inflexible and uncompromising, and they both fight their feelings for each other, but in the end they find a way to make things work despite circumstances that would otherwise keep them apart.

I’ll admit that I was wondering how I would buy into a hero who was in the slave trade and a woman who seemed overly attached to her virginity. Despite the way he proved himself a good guy over and over again, I think this is the one niggling thing that kept me from giving this a full five stars—I rather wish that that subtle social commentary had extended to resolving this in a more positive way, but that’s really just the idealist in me. But that’s my own personal bias speaking, and I’d be the first to say I’m a bit sensitive about these issues. Plus, these circumstances are essential to the plot.

And while it may have affected my swoon factor rating, it certainly didn’t hamper the way these two characters steamed up the pages. I swear, I had to avoid reading certain scenes in public. There was one particular scene in the first half of the novel where Arsenius brushes Kyme’s hair and one thing leads to another that had me so engrossed I completely forgot I was at my usual coffee shop until a barista I was friendly with brought me a cookie I had ordered but not claimed (not having heard them when they called my name to pick it up) and observed that whatever I was reading must be good. It was, but I wasn’t about to tell him why!

It’s not every book that can make you forget where you are, and if you’re as big a mythology buff as I am, you will probably love the way Slate has used tales of the Olympians as inspirations to put her own twist on times long past. As I mentioned, I wondered if I would like this series as much as I liked her first one. By the time I finished this novel, I’d decided I liked it even better. So this is definitely going on my highly recommended list!

I received this book from the author in return for an honest review. This book is a fast paced, adventure/love story with two wonderful characters who bring you into their world, a land and time of myths. In this land of myth, legends, gods and goddess’ the living can be hard. Especially for Kyme and Amazon warrior in service to Artimis and sworn to keep herself from all men and Arsenius raised as a gentleman, captured and sold into slavery. Now free, he is on a quest to find his young sister who disappeared the same night. Acting now as a slaver in order to hunt down his sister, he is given a job to find Kyme, capture her and return her to his client, who has information on his sister.
Kyme decides to go along with the kidnaping in order to save her younger Amazon sisters and to find out who has ordered her kidnaped and why. To Arsenius the only thing important is to get her to his client and find out what information the client holds on his sister. But things go wrong from the start, the heart does not always listen to what the mind tells it and before long Kyme and Arsenius are fighting not only slavers, blood/soul sucking women but their growing feelings for each other.
The story of their love and struggling to not love because of what they could lose means for a wonderful story of hope, love and the final belief that when all else fails, love is the only answer. The supporting characters were great and I can’t wait to find out what is in store for the sweet centaur.
Definitely a 5 star read.

Fans of Greek Mythology and Erotica will love this scintillating, action-packed romance. The plot is riveting and the characters...oh my, they are quite fabulous!

Kyme is a very special Amazon, she has been blessed by the goddess Artemis with special gifts because of her strength as a warrior, but most important because of her chastity. So what must she do when faced with the feelings of passion she has never felt before? She must keep her virtue, or face the wrath of Artemis. What to do, an Amazon cannot feel love and she must fight a powerful pull when faced with the magnificent male species that is Arsenius.

Arsenius is a half god that feels abandoned by the gods, especially his father Ares, too late in his life he was given the gift of Morph into what he deems a monster with blood lust, unable to ever find true love. Then he is hired to find the Amazon Kyme and finds that she is the only woman who can control his beast and finds a reason to love, only he can never be reciprocated and he knows this, but is willing to settle for the meager passion that only she can give him, without losing her virtue.

Take the journey into this captivating story of love, unlike any other, they are willing to sacrifice for the other in the name of love. The raw passion of just a simple kiss and the touch of lovers. Strife among the gods...love itself on the line....what's an Amazon warrior and half--god to do? Why, whatever they have to, of course.
This story was very captivating ..you will not read another Greek Mythology book like this one.

This is a wonderful blend of Romance, with some heavy dashes of erotica and then the story has the Greek Mythology theme going on.
Kyme is caught between a rock and a hard place. , She an Amazon warrior, has been has been captured by Arsenius. She doesn’t know who is is or what he wants. Arsenius is the son of Aries has been hired to take Kyme and only reason he does this is because something he loved is being held and he needs to find out who is holding something he loves so he can get to her(his sister). At first Kyme is a means to an end but Arsenius realizes Kyme is his mate. After his kidnapping of her, the road to their true love is paved with roadbumps. Also along the way there are many twists and turns in finding out as to finding out as to what gods want to hurt Kyme , what gods want to keep them apart and what villians are in paradise. Kyme vowed to hate Arsenius BUT she thawed toward him and their attraction flared hot as they tried to outwit the demigods and gods against them. No matter what things in their path, Kyme and Arsenius will entertain you in the zest to find their HEA in this romance, mythical action story.

My rating: 4.5 stars ****

The depth of emotions within this romance resonate deeply within one's heart. Two powerful people in their own right fall in love despite thinking that they are unable to do so. Arsenius is a son of Ares and Elektra. Kyme is an Amazon warrior blessed by Artemis. This story is the beginning of the Halcyon series where the Greek gods and goddesses reign supreme and still interfere with humanity. Persephone loves Hades and wants to spend all of her time with him as opposed to the arrangement currently in place because of her mother petitioning Zeus. Aphrodite, Ares and Artemis are mentioned within. Each will play pivotal roles throughout this series as Hades and Persephone begin to build an army for a war of love. I cannot wait to see how each story plays out.

I've already had the pleasure of reading book two Earth Borne as it was my introduction to this series.and I really cannot wait to see Nazrin's, Lena's and the many other stories that will come forth in this series. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Ms. Slate I like your writing style and hope to continue to enjoy it.

Moon Borne by Rachel Slate has to be my favorite new book, I had to read it twice to get the full the first time I read it I sped through Kyme and Arsenius' story and through my second read through I just had to savor it. If you're a fan of Greek mythology or a fan of Percy Jackson looking for a more adult and erotic Greek mythology based tale this is the one for you.

Looking for his sister, capturing Kyme was just a means to an end but the never-been-touched Amazon warrioress is irrisitable to the strong and dark Arsenius.

I loved how the two weren't supposed to fall for one another and somehow still managed to make it through Kyme's tough Amazon ways and Arsenius' darkness.

A great paranormal romance with a mythology twist and definitely a five star read!

I absolutely Loved Moon Borne ! I can't find many mythology books with erotic elements so for me this was sheer pleasure to read! The action kept me going, as did the plot, the storyline was excellent, and well written! Arsenius must kidnap a fierce warrior Kyme to get locations on the sisters he's been searching for so long, and makes Kyme his slave. She has other ideas an wants to kill him as soon as she can, but the more they're together the deeper things become building up into something either of them could have imagined! Of course the Gods have plans of there own! MUST Read for anyone that loves an interesting full of excitement and adventurous book! Highly recommended by Alpha Loving Erotic Book Beauty Blogger I received this arc in return of my 5 Stars review
