Acclaimed New Testament scholar Francois Bovon engagingly and concisely explores the last days of Jesus. Detailing the similarities and differences in the passion narratives of the four canonical Gospels and the Gospel of Peter , he shows that these stories were not composed by objective witnesses but are reflections of the perspectives of those who wrote them. This lucid, highly readable, yet critical appraisal of Jesus' final days is a masterful example of the discipline of biblical studies.
This was a good and helpful introduction to historical-critical analysis of the passion of Jesus. Bovon brings together some interesting historical data an analysis. Naturally, I have some issues with the methodology in general. In particular, I found that he sometimes didn't explain his reasoning or provide primary source evidence for assertions that seemed to require it.
This was a short but interesting book on a topic I had not considered. The author was very good about acknowledging what was conjection and what was more firmly known. In addition, he made space for how thinking might change in the future.
