A unique, insightful, and practical look into the enormous power of past life regression therapy to unlock a healing pathway that can help you resolve enduring personal issues, enrich your life, and answer burning spiritual questions about your purpose on this earth.
In this rare and fascinating intimate glimpse at past life regression therapy, licensed therapist Ann Barham invites us into her office as she helps her clients mine their unconscious memories for the key past life experiences that can provide specific guidance for their current situations. No longer simply the stuff of new age practitioners, past life regression therapy is a powerful tool that can improve your understanding of your personal challenges and deepen your connection with the world around you. Barham demystifies this intriguing phenomenon, sharing her client’s astounding stories, each a clue to the profound influence the personalities of the past have on our thoughts and actions today.
As modern science and technology advance at overwhelming rates, many of us crave the healing insights and feelings of eternal love that survivors of near death experiences frequently report. Through past life therapy, everyday people are able to experience prior lifetimes all the way through their deaths, tapping into abiding spiritual truths and answering essential questions about human existence.
Ann C. Barham is a Marriage & Family Therapist licensed in the State of California, and a Certified Past Life Therapist with the International Board of Regression Therapy. After earning her Masters in Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University, she pursued a traditional counseling practice for some years before turning her focus to past life regression work. Barham studied with some of the world’s preeminent past life practitioners of the time, including Dr. Brian Weiss and Dr. Roger Woolger, among others. As she developed her own, integrated approach, she found that she could help many people resolve enduring issues, often in a single session, as well as incorporate significant spiritual exploration for clients. Barham came to the counseling profession as a mid-life career change, having spent many years in various aspects of high- and low-tech business management, accounting, and marketing communications. She brings a very engaging and down-to-earth approach to what might otherwise be an esoteric subject. Barham lives just south of California’s Silicon Valley in the small town of Gilroy, best known for its world-famous Garlic Festival. See Ann's website at www.pastlives.org
I will admit upfront that I am a believer in reincarnation. To me there are just too many things that point to the likelihood that souls/spirits/energy whatever you want to call it are coming back. Why the hell do we keep making the same mistakes as a society? It’s like we never learn….
That is why this book called to me though, because I already feel the underlying premise is possible. I would also love to find out what I might have been in a past life. My husband claims “troublesome” and I’m inclined to agree. heh. But wouldn’t it be amazing if this were something open to everyone? I will be honest and note that I haven’t really explored the possibility because I am sure this is something that is just not in my budget as much as I’d like to learn from whatever my past might have been.
But back to the book…it starts with an introduction about how Ms. Barham found her life’s work and how she works with her clients. Then she offers a series of client regressions. At the end of each retelling there are suggestions for using the lessons learned in your own life. The chapters progress in theme and Ms. Barham wraps up by strongly supporting a counselor based method rather than a self regression program due to the possibility of strong negative emotions or other problems in facing a past life. She seems to be a very caring and concerned therapist.
The book is an absolutely fascinating read. Following her patients through their regressions and picking through the details provided of the various lives and times was especially interesting for someone like me who is such a student of history. What was lacking, if anything, was context and feeling for lack of a better word. It’s almost clinical in the way it’s presented which is fine in its own way but for a casual reader it’s just a little cold. It would have been nice to humanize the tales a bit more but that is a small complaint for an otherwise informative read. The chapters with the regressions are practically page turners.
If you have any interest at all in reincarnation or the possibility of past lives of your own you will find this book of interest.
Ann Barham's The Past Life Perspective is an excellent follow up to her first book, Nine Lives (and Counting). It is a wonderfully articulated introduction to the fascinating world of past-lives and their impact on our current incarnations. Having recently lost my wife of 46 years, it brought great comfort to me with the possibilities for the future as well as insight into why I am where I am today. I was particularly impacted by the story of one man who was killed in combat in Vietnam, then reborn 2 years later. Many years ago, I was standing on the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor and saw my last name listed on those who died on board that day. I felt this strange connection to that name, and told my wife and daughter that I believed I died there in 1941. I was born into this life 2 years later, to finish what I was unable to do since I was a young man when died during WWII. The client stories apply real-life experiences to Ann's description of how this type of work can add meaning to our lives. This book would make an excellent primer for anyone open to investigating the possibility of past-lives as well as an introductory reference in academia.
This is an excellent book that brings light on how some aspects of our past lives have a substantial impact on our present incarnation. The author describes the most striking cases from her practice as a licensed therapist and metaphysician. At the end of every chapter she adds two sub-sections: essential truths uncovered and expanding your perspective. I find these especially useful since every single person can ponder on the questions and issues raised from their personal perspective.
The book is ok and not like some of the other past lives books I’ve read. The book gives scenarios of “real clients” that just so happen to fall into categories of issues that every person could go through, then if clever enough and do some homework, you can write what seems like fabricated stories about past lives. Some of the books I’ve read would have actual written responses from the recordings of patient sessions and this didn’t do that, which makes this book not very believable. If anything this book would be a better self help reference guide for someone to refer to the table of contents, find their issue, read the clients relatable story, then follow her “Expanding Your Perspective” session to help self therapy yourself with a journal.
This was a amazing look into the lives(and past lives) of others. The connection between issues in our current lives and how they might relate to lives we behind us makes for interesting reading! I highly recommend this book!!
Beautifully done. I wanted to get a glimpse into the world of past life regression therapy and this was a thorough, informative, and instructive guide to help me in the right direction.
Recommended to anyone who has an interest in, or is considering this technique.
"If my faith causes me to live a better life, be a better person, live with more meaning, then it doesn't matter if it's true. It has fulfilled it's purpose." - Page 217.
I really enjoyed this book. I've never read anything like it, or even knew that past life regression was a thing before picking this book up. I found it very interesting getting to "meet" the different clients and follow along in their regression. I also really enjoyed how some chapters included information and experiences that the client had after their session. This book is filled with really valuable advice and ideas that touch on seemingly every topic and issue imaginable. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone interested in past life regression, or anyone to who wants to read inspiring stories for every occasion.
In this in-depth interview with Dr. Ann C. Barham, LMFT, Certified Past Life Therapist and author of The Past Life Perspective: Discovering Your True Nature Across Multiple Lifetimes, we discuss how past life information can surface in our dreams. Dr. Barham also explains the many ways past life issues can be reactivated by events in our current lifetime and how past life regression therapy can be a viable option for resolving long-standing issues: https://medium.com/@bjacksonbuckley3/...
Táto knižka ma veľmi zaujala. Nikdy predtým som nečítala niečo podobné o minulých životoch a o tom ako by nám mohli ovplyvniť naše momentálne životy a životné situácie. Zároveň je tam veľmi zaujímavo popísaná hypnóza, ktorú by som po prečítaní tejto knižky určite chcela vyskúšať a možno by som sa dozvedela niečo zaujímavé o sebe ale aj o mojich minulých životoch...
This is the best book I have read about past lives, made much better by suggestions for how to use personal experience for spiritual growth and enlightenment.
Good book - an interesting perspective on how and why we are in the lives we are currently living. If you have ever considered the possibility of past lives, I would definitely recommend this.
The story we create of our life is central to giving our life meaning and critical to guiding our choices. As a culture, we are all learning to be less quick with judgements about our stories and those of others until we know more of the backstory of any event. In her book The Past Life Perspective, Ann Barham does an amazing job of illuminating how our prior lifetimes- our backstories before our births, help us make sense of the present and make our personal narratives more rich and complete. Ms. Barham is clear that whether one treats past live stories as factual events, or metaphors for those backstories, that exploring past lives can help each of us live our current lives more filled with more understanding and wisdom. She shares details of each client’s past life story with her own storyteller’s gift. Her talent as a guide comes through clearly as she asks each client to create a focus for their journey to their past. These usually come from concerns in their present life. She then uses her detective skills to discover the connections between past visions and current life struggles. She then goes further… She uses each example to explore what she calls “Essential Truths.” Then, with thoughtful suggestions, she invites us all to use the wisdom and perspectives in each experience to further understand our own stories. It is clear that Ms. Barham’s book is a gift to many as they travel on the path of creating a world of more kindness, compassion, and love today.
This is the book the subject of Past Lives has been needing for a long time. The "Past Life Perspective" is written professionally and clearly, delightfully easy to read, with engaging stories that make it vivid and real. The Past Life Perspective is both powerful and empowering. It is powerful because it explains past lives in an insightful and grounded manner that can be readily understood by the novice on the subject, thus greatly expanding general public access to this key component of our nature as human beings. And yet this book has so much good advice and clarity provided for the past life counseling process it could be used as a adjunct textbook for training counselors or as the most useful of handbooks for the professional regression therapist. I found The Past Life Perspective particularly empowering with the higher purposes revealed in the book from the realm of spirit. We are provided with the unique perspective that we are much older with much more experience to draw from to assist us with life's challenges. Moreover, the reader will discover The Past Life Perspective is much broader than simply looking back. We are opened in the most positive of ways to become more tolerant, understanding, and forgiving because we see we have lived most sides of every issue.
The Past Life Perspective is a wonderful book on many levels. Ann Barham’s style is engaging and warm—she invites the reader to share in the last sixteen years of her case files with past-life regression clients.
I felt honored to be privy to the intimate world of a therapist’s office. Ann frames these personal memories and lessons gained in individual lifetimes as teaching stories that we can all learn from.
Her world view is very expansive and, as a therapist, she is not out to prove that the past-life lives stories are “real,” but that in many cases they are an effective tool that can be used to help people better understand themselves and their relationships.
I enjoy historical fiction so it was great fun to read stories about so many different time periods and life circumstances. Ann believes that through these stories we become aware that we’ve all been the beggar and the thief as well as all the wonderful personalities we can imagine. This leads to greater compassion and a sense of oneness that we so greatly need to develop in our world today.
I enjoyed the action of the past-life recollections and I especially loved Ann’s wise voice sharing what she has learned and witnessed over the many years.
What a great book! As a Spiritual intuitive myself, I know we have many lives. Ann does such a great job of letting us look into her world of past life regression, and we get to be there just like we were in one of her sessions. What I really connected with is how the spiritual lessons of the past can connect us with what is happening now and help us heal. Since reading the book I sought out Ann for a private session and her process enlightened me and validated all the information and client stories she's shares in her book. I highly recommend this book.
I loved this book, and have given away several copies to friends and family. I'm not 100% sure what I think about Past Life Regression, but have had several friends who have done them, and it changed their lives, in a better way. The case studies in the book were fascinating and interesting. The author has an excellent writing style weaving the case studies together while providing educational information about the process.
The book was incredibly interesting and engaging, with multiple personal stories each containing a glimpse into spiritual and psychological lives (both past and present!) of many diverse individuals. The book was enlightening but not aggressive, allowing the reader to perceive the stories in a way that was meaningful to them. Between the fascinating stories of discovery and healing and the stimulating commentary, this book is a great success.
"A wonderful book that helps the reader understand the eternal nature of our existence, as evidenced in fascinating past life stories from actual clients. The spiritual advice that comes through clients’ higher guidance rings true! This is a must read if you are interested in matters of the spirit and how we embody our souls in human form.”
A topic I have always found interesting. The stories are fascinating. The author is knowledgable and passionate about the subject which makes this an easy and enjoyable read. After finishing this book it makes me wonder about my past lives. A true enjoyment and I couldn't put it down.
Author, Ann C. Barham is a certified past life therapist. Her book contains summaries of some of her patients (names changed) along with "Essential Truths Uncovered" and "Expanding Your Perspective" thoughts/ideas at the end of each summary.
This is exactly the kind of book I like. with pithy explanations, and a lot of case studies, illuminating various conditions and possible solutions. It's very down-to earth.
Edit: it’s been almost a year since I read this book and I think of it all the time. It made such an impression on me. It was one of the most spiritually profound books I’ve read.
I was hoping this book would show us how to remember our own past lives, but it didn't. However, that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy this book and find it useful. This book tells us about tje author's experiance with clients and their past life memories which they recieved during past life regression therapy with the author. At the end of each chapter there are questions for us, the reader, to ponder which I enjoyed immensely. There is also an appendix if we want to learn more. Overall, I enjoyed this book and if you are interested in past lives I think you will too.
I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
