The Return of Sherlock Holmes: The Case Notes

Rate this book
Written by Sherlock Holmes’s trusted friend, this intriguing scrapbook contains the notes on which Dr. Watson’s later, more detailed, accounts are based. It includes newspaper articles, sketches, and maps, with each one reproduced as a historical artifact—complete with tears, fold marks, handwritten annotations, and stains. Glassine “evidence bags” preserve 15 of these items, so readers can easily remove and study them.

Removable memorabilia includes :
• Hand-drawn floor plan of the crime scene (“The Adventure of the Empty House”) where the Honorable Ronald Adair, son of the Earl of Maynooth, was killed in an apparently motiveless crime
• Telegram summoning Holmes to the case of the Norwood Builder (“The Adventure of the Norwood Builder”)
• Slightly torn piece of paper featuring a sequence of dancing stick men (“The Adventure of the Dancing Men”)
• Crumpled notice in paper enquiring the whereabouts of Miss Violet Smith and her recently widowed mother (“The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist”)

3.5 — To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect from this book before getting into it! I really enjoy the evidences that are in the book because personally, it really got me in into the FEELS 👁👄👁 If you’ve seen the Sherlock show on Netflix, some of the cases are actually in the book which made me enjoy it more. I like the show a bit more because I like to appreciate the details that are in the show.
However, I had a few problems with this book though. First, the fonts. Oh god, the fonts in some of the evidences are so unreadable for me and it made my eyes tired quickly and lazy to read each letter one by one. Second, I was kinda expecting for it to be like a storybook rather than an actual ‘case note’, I’m not sure why I was expecting that but I was a bit disappointed in it not being a proper storybook. That’s just my problem though-
Overall, the fonts just ruined it for me but its actually a great concept. Would I recommend it? I mean, if you’re really into Sherlock Holmes, you might fully enjoy this book! 💯

This was such a fun and interactive way of reading a book.
I did struggle with the handwriting sometimes, but that made it even more exciting and enjoyable!
I would recommend this book to you if you are an active person that likes to really connect with a book (for example look at real official documents and evidence in the bags). Enjoy!

This is a fun book for Sherlock Holmes fans as this is set up as Watson's notebook with casenotes on the different cases from The Return of Sherlock Holmes. It has casennotes written by Watson and also pull outs of the evidence from the cases which I thought was a fun touch. The only thing was I did find it hard to read some things as some of the fonts used weren't that easy to read.
