The Archer Sisters of Goldrush: Book 1: Adeline's Story- The Strong-willed Bride for Her Lonely Farmer Book 2: Amelia's Story- The Idealistic Bride for Her Insecure Rancher
Short read, predictable yet still an endearing pioneer romance. Don't have the energy to think too deep and just looking for a little fun and happy ending this is your book, or trilogy for that matter.
Averill and her mother are the last to escape New York. They get away clean - and head West to meet the young man that Averill has been writing to - the other cousin to her eldest sisters' husband. With both sisters married and safe from the villainous wealthy elder man that holds a piece of paper, signed by their father, giving his eldest daughter as partial payment to his huge gambling debt...Averill and her mother must also sneak away, safely, and head West.
With her head set on becoming an attorney at a time in history when women had little to no power over their own lives, and her heart set on a marriage where both partners are equal and able to intellectually inspire each other, she sets off.
What happens when she finds her husband-to-be is the sheriff? Who is he, really? Will the evil New York millionaire find the women? Will they all be safe, or not so safe?
This series was typical for this type of tale, but the characters are well developed and draw you into the stories that come together nicely.
After her father left a gambling debt that one of his daughters was to marry the collector of the debt, Averill’s oldest sister Adeline came up with a plan to sneak them out. Adeline had found a mail order bride advertisement and decided it was the out the family needed. The last part of Adeline’s scheme was to sneak her sister Averill and her mother out.
Averill was to marry the brother of her oldest sister’s husband. Averill doesn’t like any man that drinks while her soon-to-be husband uses alcohol to dissolve his problems – that is until he became sheriff. Now that he has met Averill, he vows to protect her from anything and any other man. When the debt collector came to town wanting to settle her father’s debt, Averill and Jacob get together with the family to come up with a solution.
This is a novella of a typical mail order bride. It was a good read if you like a good love story. It was an enjoyable quick read and I liked how their mother got her happy ending as well.
I loved that all the sisters and their mother came back together in Gold rush, CA. I love how Faye Sonja made this series a gray read from book one to book three. How each sister found the man of their dreams in two brothers and their cousin.
I have bought and read all three books to my elderly client. She really enjoyed them as much as I did reading them to her. I think this series is well worth reading. It is a clean historical romance.
