Fiercely independent and determined to be taken seriously in a man's world, PI Rose Baxter will do whatever it takes to find the kids who are disappearing from the streets and bring them home safe, even teaming up with PI Marty Brown, a man hot enough to burn whatever part of her gets too close-her fingers, her sheets, her life, and her other nature's whiskers. But her other nature knows whiskers grow back and will accept nothing less than this man as her mate for life, a plan Marty's all in on. Sparks fly when she refuses to be the little woman. Besides, those kids need her and their time's running out. But, thrown together 24/7, can she fight their growing attraction?
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Review may contain spoilers.
After finishing this book, I can't say I felt it was good or bad. It was just so-so for me. There were paranormal aspects to the book, but overall I felt like I was reading a mystery novel where some of the characters happened to be Weres.
Overall, I think the writing style of the author was consistent and true to her characters, but too often I had to re-read sections of the book because a name would just be dropped like we had already met the character when we hadn't. For example, we are just given Rose, Marty, and Logan's names before we are formerly introduced to their character, so I ended up going back and re-reading pages thinking I had missed something. When Rose meets Wendy, Wendy introduces Rose to her friends even though no introductions had been made between the two so I was confused as to how Wendy would know Rose's name. Perhaps as readers we are to interpret that they had exchanged names, but instead it read like narratives were missing.
I would have liked to have known more about where Weres fit in to this world. Over the course of the book we find out that Weres exist in human society but keep their existence secret. This is fine, except that Weres are able to find each other easily and each have certain humans in who they confide their existence. Other than that, we don't know anything else about how Weres fit into this world and I found that to be a hole in the plot. I liked how the author had reasons for Weres' bloodwork being different than human's and how this aids in healing, and I would have liked to see more of this world-building in the story.
Another reason I felt the book was subpar was due to things that just didn't make sense to me. I didn't believe in the romance between Rose and Marty so it was hard to to root for them as a couple. They had a sudden meeting in a bar, both happen to be PIs on the same case, and just like that they're mates and are working together. Didn't work for me. Many times I felt like there was a sudden change of scene or the plot would jump ahead in the timeline, which disrupted the flow of the book. I felt like Rose revealed her PI status to others way too easily which caused me to not believe in what was happening.
I feel the book would be better if some improvements to readability were made. Besides the jerky scene transitions, the inner dialogue or narration often changed from first to third person, and sometimes I didn't know who was doing the thinking/talking causing me to have to re-read scenes. In the beginning, the sentences seemed short and choppy, and not on the level of the rest of the book.
All-in-all, I think it was a great effort by the author and she has a style that I think with some polishing could be a great addition to the paranormal and/or mystery genre.
She is a PI who is on the hunt for the children that are going missing even if it means working with him. He is also a PI and they will clash and it seems they be meant for the other. She will do anything she can to find and save the children, bringing them back home. Will they find the children? Are they alive? What will happen next? See how they get on I received an advance copy from hidden gems and I want to review
Rose and Marty are both private investigators looking into the same person for kidnapping children. They meet one night at a bar when Rose is slipped drugs in her drink by a man they are both watching. Marty takes her home and when she wakes in the morning she doesn't remember going home with him. They also discover that they are both weres and Rose is unnerved that she didn't scent him the night before at the bar not quite sure if she can trust him. They decide to pull resources and work together to find out and stop what is happening to the children.
These two cats are super steamy together. Both realize quickly that they are mates. Marty figures that explains the desire for her and his need to protect her. Rose is shocked and has issues with him thinking that she can't hold her own. I loved their bed talk. Sweet and spicy. Marty... he's just so...purrrr! I hated that Rose fought their being together for so long. In the end it was her fear of endangering him because of the errors she felt she made in the investigation. I so loved that Marty was persistent and didn't give up all the times that she did push him away.
I don't want to give anything away about the case they are working on because you just have to read it yourself. It's that good and I don't want to spoil it for you.
Rose Baxter and Marty Brown are both private investigators, looking into the disappearance of runaways and street kids. They decide early on that they'll be more successful working together. It doesn't hurt that they're also completely drawn to each other, although they're not sure why. The details of who and what Rose and Marty really are, along with their intense attraction to each other, are what define 'Rescued' as the paranormal romance that it is.
Paranormal is one of my favorite sub-genres to read. I mean, what's not to love? There's the romance, there's the sexiness and heat, and there's that quirk that takes it to the next level. When you get an interesting storyline thrown in as well, it makes for one of the more satisfying reads, in my opinion.
Larynn Ford has done a good job of weaving all of these elements together in 'Rescued.' Rose and Marty are likeable and down-to-earth. They're invested in finding the answers to the case that they're working, but they're also open to the new feelings that emerge when they get to know each other, so the flow of the story is very nice and easy. The plot of the mystery part of the story is fresh and fast-paced, and held my interest throughout. I am always happy to find a new author that I like, and so I look forward to reading more from Larynn.
Children are disappearing! Are they just runaways? Two private investigators, Rose and Marty decide to put their heads together and find out what’s going on. As it turns out, they work on more than the disappearance of kids! Once they discover they’re both weres, Marty plays superior protector, which offends Rose’s extreme independence. In between their steamy romantic encounters, they work to find out what’s happening to the kids who’ve gone missing. The reason for the missing children and teenagers is actually pretty disturbing.
I’m not normally interested in anything paranormal, but I must say this story did hold my interest. If you’re looking for a story that’s unusual, this is the story for you. It’s full of intrigue and a very different kind of controversial romance.
Larynn Ford did awesome with this book! Captivating, page turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting more! Paranormal romance with a twist of a mystery! Easy to follow well written story line. I have added this author to my new to me author list to keep reading from!
This story grabbed me from the beginning, I mean, come on, sexy Warecougers, bad guys and kids in danger? Love it. Marty made my heart go pitty-pat, and Rose was a force to be reckoned with. The story kept me turning the pages from beginning to end with twists and turns and, of course, heat...and the whole reason I read romance...Love. Recommend this book to all lovers of paranormal romance.
shifter detectives search for missing children and find the teenagers are killed and harvested for blood, organs, tissues, bones....Or impregnated to have babies for adoption mills.
This story grabbed me from the first scene. The hero and heroine fit together from the start, even with the tension and conflict surrounding their work. Werecougars are my new favorite Were animal.
Wow this book blew my mind it was so full of drama, action, and emotional scenes within chapters. This book came at an global crisis issue in a fictional paranormal way I couldn't stop reading!!
This was excellent in plot and action. The results of their investigation discovered a bunch of bad guys who conned kids into becoming part of their operations. The least of these was as blood donors whose contributions were then sold. It gets worse as the book continues. I hope you like it as much as I did.
I never used to like Shifter/paranormal romances. Then slowly I have warmed up to Werewolf books, but this is the first one I have every read when it is solely cats and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. The story is such an unusual one. Both Marty and Rosie are shifters but didn't realize it at first, but that could be because they were too busy trying to ignore the crazy sexual attraction and also trying to observe their perp. After a disaster of a night they join sides...although somewhat reluctantly on Rosie's side. I am going to stop the story there, so not to give anything away. I really enjoyed the story; it was such a change to read about cats instead of Alpha Wolfs and their mates (even though I love them). You can tell the Author put a lot of thought in to the plot and into each character in the story. For that reason I give the story 9 out of 10, a must read for the summer.
