"...all dreams have ways of coming true."
In all of. Holy. Terra. I still don't think I'm in the right mindset to be writing this review. I finished this two days ago and I am still mad at E.J. for that ending. Why do you torture us so?!
I read this fantastic book in one sitting since I have been waiting months to dive back into this world and couldn't wait any longer. It picked off right where the first book, The Dreamer, left off and I was a mess the entire time.
For one thing, I forgot how hot and bothered a certain blue-eyed Dev made me-Molly. That was ONE form of torture E.J. put me through.
Even though I am sad beyond belief, I love E.J.'s writing. I can't stress that enough. I saw the scenes playing in front of my eyes like a movie from the very beginning. E.J. has a way with words that makes the situations easy to visualize.
Like I said in my review for the first book, these characters are extremely fascinating and realistic. The consequences Molly goes through are compatible to the situations she's forced to face and it still astonishes me to this day. We definitely see character development in Molly and I didn't even try to blink in case I missed a single detail. (Dev might be a big reason as well, but anyway).
The world is just... outstanding. I want to live there now. I have no idea how E.J. created this world but I am forever grateful she did. I felt like I only got to step back into this world for a second before it was wrenched way from me again. The moment I found out the meaning behind the title I felt like I got punched in the heart. And everywhere else.
I am shattered and I completely blame E.J.
After this book, I fell in love Dev and Molly SO MUCH MORE!! I didn't even know I could love them more than I already did but I was wrong, thank you E.J. for proving that to me haha.
This book didn't lack tears, heartbreaking plot twists, tears, actions, sobs, and humor. Oh, the humor!! I have to say I love the humor that oozed out of Molly and Rae when they were together. My stomach hurt so much from all the laughing they had me doing.
Another thing I found myself being awed by was the fact that we are STILL learning about the world. This isn't a case of information overload at all and I love it. Even now, there are so many unanswered questions.
I am scared for what's yet to come... I am in mourning until I have the next book in my hands.

This was everything I could want from the sequel to the Dreamer, a book I *loved*! I had so many expectations and almost a checklist of things I wanted to see happen in book two and I was not disappointed! I loved watching Molly come in to her own in her new role as the Dreamer. She quickly becomes a BAD ASS! Yay! Check that off the list!
And what about the boy back home, Jared? Well read this book and you'll see what happens. I was quite satisfied with how that situation got resolved.
Which brings us to Molly and Dev, our favorite literary couple with the slow burning romance--will it lead to full on flames? I'm not into spoilers so you'll have to read this book to find out, which if anyone reads the Dreamer, you're going to have to read the Divide-sort of like "if you give a mouse a cookie, it's going to ask for milk..."
Well, if you give a bookworm the Dreamer, it's going to want the Divide and after the climactic cliffhanger at the end of this book, this bookworm is going to want the Destined, the third and final book in the Dreamland Series!
*off to read The Dreamcatcher, Mellow's novella*

The author was very kind and sent me a copy of her novel in exchange for an honest review.

I never thought that I could fall in love with these characters and world more than I already was and oh, boy did E.J. Mellow prove me wrong! I can’t get this amazing book out of my head I just keep wanting to pick it up and reread it and go through all those amazing scenes and feelings all over again. Molly finally uncovered the secret of her strange dreams and with the help of Dev she has to learn to control her new found powers and learn about the new strange world she is destined to save.

Gosh, this book was all I was expecting it to be and more. E.J.'s world building is amazing you feel like you can close your eyes and step into Terra to meet all the amazing characters she has created. I really liked that we got to learn more about Dev and his past, it helped me understand him so much better and fall so much harder for him. I loved Molly's character development in this book it really shows how strong she is physically and mentally. E.J. Mellow took me in an emotional roller-coaster that I still refuse to get off of. This book is so different from any book I've ever read and I absolutely love that; E.J. has created a world that I wish I could walk into and characters I wish I could pull off the pages. I love everything about this series and I can't wait to have the third book in my hands. If you have yet to pick this series up, I highly recommend it! The first book “The Dreamer" was on my top favorite reads of last year and I know this year has just begun, but “The Divide" is already on my top favorite reads of this year!

5*

The Divide has been on my list of most anticipated sequels for 2015. When it finally arrived in my mailbox I was ecstatic and slightly nervous. As the sequel to a smashing debut novel I was truly hoping it would live up to the awesomeness of the first book and that there would be a good chunk more of Devlin (though really the story was a reason enough of course hah!)...

description

The Divide jumps right into where The Dreamer left off. Molly is on her way to be put under for a few days in order to get her training under way. And ohh do we get thrown straight back into it! We finally get to delve a little deeper into Terra and get introduced to whole heap more interesting gadgets and what not's. There are some truly tension packed scenes right up my ally and I am extremely glad that this is a NA novel and did not have to conform to YA fadeouts. It delivered on all of my TGTBT expectations (for anyone wondering , it's short for -To Good To Be True-).

~ I swallow. Will I like this different me? Will my friends and family? “I know there is a popular saying ‘ignorance is bliss.’” She eyes me sympathetically, as if she knows my thoughts. “But I also know there is a better one that says ‘knowledge is power.’” I’m currently unsure which one I agree with.

~ I stay pressed against the solid structure as the doors open . “I’d get some air if I were you. From the feel of it, you seem a little hot and bothered.”

description

E J Mellow also knows how to pull you straight into her world. The imaginative descriptions and her quirky humor come together effortlessly and it had my laughing out loud so many times on the bus, I have lost count. Evidence is the massive amount of highlighted quotes in my kindle notes, once I had finished. On average I pick up about 5-10 quotes per book. The Divide had me pick up over 15 and that was with restraint.

~I swallow . “So… meaning they went power hungry and got a little too Pinky and The Brain, ‘let’s take over the world,’ on everything?”

~“Rae!” I shove his shoulder. “You can’t do that! You can’t snoop about you through me!”“Why not? How else were you going to repay me for this favor?” The corner of his mouth tips up. “Plus, wouldn’t you ask her that?”“Oh. My. God! That’s not the point,” I scold, but after a moment ask, “What did she say?”

Anyhow, I am digressing. Of course having the safety of both the real and the dreamer world on your shoulders is not easy, not only that but she is having some other very difficult decisions to make whilst also all of a sudden becoming the target from an unknown source. This installment really lets you see the power that Molly holds in her hands and shows both sides of the proverbial coin that come with her new found gifts.

description

I build worlds around us and solar systems and creatures that only exist in dreams. I manifest colors that have flavors and darkness that’s all encompassing. I go to a place unborn by man, created in a space where the natural law has no reach and the science of reason is washed away , replaced by the basic pure desire to exist, all of it coming from a place I never knew I had.

^^^ That is most definitely my fave quote out if this book!

I believe we all adore some good action scenes and this had plenty for me to sink into. The ending of the second book is very fitting. After all the trouble we get pulled through, it is great to get thrown a little bone and not fall into a book induced depression whilst waiting for the finale. I am extremely curious to see how Ej Mellow is planning to pull everything right again.

For now I will keep my eye out on her upcoming novella The Dreamcatcher which will show us Dev's POV.. (Hell yeah, even more Dev!).. That should at least cure my CWTTNB syndrome for a little while longer (for anyone curious, it's short for -Cant Wait Till The Next Book-).

Okay, I am having some serious issues forming complete thoughts at this moment. That was....awesome! The Divide was everything that I hoped for in a sequel. It was one of those reads where you want to devour it all at once, and simultaneously savor it slowly so you spend as much time as possible immersed in this dreamy world. I absolutely loved the fact that we got to spend so much of this book in Terra!! I was so intrigued by this wondrous dreamland in The Dreamer, but I really fell in love with it in this book. And the fact that Dev was there, well it certainly added to the appeal.

Seriously, I was so wrapped up in the dream guy that I completely forgot about the waking world boyfriend, Jared. I was kind of disappointed once I did remember about him. I've been team Dev since the beginning. But I am a sucker for the slow budding romance, and Mellow did this perfectly! It was done with my preferred romance cocktail of internal longing, humor, and that glorious balance of not knowing whether they want to shin kick each other or kiss.

"Dev pins me with his beauty, his desire, and- I take note- his anger. Every one of my cells jump with his sudden presence, and in this precarious place, with this hedonistic music spinning around us, the Molly that's telling me I should step away and clear my head, at this point, is a shell of a woman. But the other Molly, the one who wants to push Dev into the shadows, well, she just downed a protein shake and is stronger than ever."

I really enjoyed seeing Molly come into her role as the Dreamer, and what being such really means. I think we have only just begun to learn some of the amazing things she can accomplish. I also thought the correlation between the brewing war with the Metus in Terra and the rise of awful things happening in the real world was a neat idea. It was especially interesting to see how that had previously played out throughout history. The Metus are a fearsome foe. To think that all it takes is a touch to be totally consumed by the evil and complete hopelessness, just to become the very thing that you were fighting against a moment before. Good or bad, I just can't get enough of Terra and all it's inhabitants. Which is what has me kind of worried, because as we all know...

"But then all too quickly, like a Metus invading, I'm reminded of something, We must all wake up from dreams."

I'm so freaking nervous for what is going to happen in the next book....that ending was crazy! I'm devastated by it, and yet, still holding onto hope. Now begins the torturous wait to see what happens next.

I BOOK REVIEW I
*The author of this book sent me this paperback copy in exchange for an honest review, so don’t expect anything less than that. I will always give an honest review, be it a positive one or a negative one.*

Title: The Divide
Author: E.J. Mellow
Genre: YA, Romance
Stars: 5/5⭐

My Thoughts:
Do you know that feeling when you get a book and you just know you are in for an awesome story and can't wait another minute to start? The Divide is that book. I so thoroughly enjoyed this book that I couldn't put it down and didn't want the page count to dwindle. This will definitely be on the keeper shelf and be re-read.

I can't express how wonderful E.J. Mellow books are and The Dreamland is definitely my favorite book series now. I am a hopeless romantic at heart but Ms. E.J Mellow writes a hero that is so swoon-worthy that you can't help but fall in love with him yourself. Her Heroine, Molly, is easy to identify with and she writes Molly in such a way that you can't help but put yourself in her place. If you are a fan of any YA Romance you will absolutely love The Divide series by E.J. Mellow

I need the third book, The Destined, as soon as possible!! Holy freaking crap, that ending! *nervously bites nails* E.J. why must you torture us like this?!

The Divide was everything I had hoped for in a sequel and more! The plot was beautifully written, the characters are freaking amazing and badass; I think it’s safe to say that I love them all and that they will always have a special place in my heart. *cough*expect for that one specific character towards the end*cough*. And it’s officially official — Dev has made his way to being in my top 5 fav book boyfriends list *forever swoons over him*. OH! And Rae, he's definitely being added to my list of favorite characters ever. haha. Seriously though, that ending was a major cliffhanger and I can't wait to find out what's going to happen next with Molly, Dev, and the rest of Terra.

If you’re looking for a new NA fantasy trilogy to read, definitely give these books a chance!

I'm slightly laughing at myself for commenting on the cliffhanger for the previous book, The Dreamer. It did leave me with the feeling of dying to know more, but I was at least optimistic for the future of the characters, especially with Molly and Dev. The ending to The Divide, however... it was a shot right in the heart. (And I LOVE it)

As happy as I am to see the love triangle get resolved, it did feel a little rushed. The switch from crying over one relationship to ripping clothes off in another was separated only by a single chapter. I would have preferred to ride the tension a little longer.

All in all, though, I absolutely love this series. The twists along the way have been completely unexpected. I am continually fascinated with the world of Terra Somniorum, and of course, Rae, the hilarious, simpleminded best friend.

The only reason this isn't a 5 star is that I wish we could have seen more of Terra. Otherwise, this was wonderful and magical. That ending shredded my heart, and my face is tear-streaked. I absolutely love this world. I can't wait for book 3!

Holy freakin’ Metus!!!

Oh God, please give me strength to finish this review...

I honestly do not know how E.J. does it, but every book of hers ends up messing with my heart. After reading ''The Dreamer'' and getting proof of her amazing writing skills, I knew ''The Divide'' was going to be just as awesome as the first book. Guess what? I was wrong! Because this book was absolutely gut-wrenching and full of emotions, love and hope! Thank you, E.J, thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving birth to such a masterpiece!

This time I’m not going to bother with summing up what happened in the second installement of ''The Dreamland'' series, because so many things occured, it would take me a day or two to explain everything. That is the reason why I am going to focus on talking about a few of the many aspects why ''The Divide'' is actually way better than ''The Dreamer''. Leave me the pleasure to begin with Molly and Dev’s relationship.

If in the first book I could not decide which team I belong to (even though Dev had a little bit more of my love than Jared), in this one I completely fell in love with Dev from the very beginning. He is one of the best male characters I’ve come across in all the books I’ve read till now that deal with romance. His strength, both physical and emotional, his feelings for Molly and his desire to protect her with his life were amazing and heart melting. The ending shattered me in pieces and I even shed a few tears for him, for Molly, for everything they were and everything they MUST continue to be. Also, there was no surprise for me to encounter the same badass Molly from the previous book. If anything, she became stronger and more confident in her own abilities. She and Dev were like liquid fire whenever they were together, no matter if they were having a fight or the exact opposite *wink*.

I stay pressed against the solid structure as the doors open .
“I’d get some air if I were you. From the feel of it, you seem a little hot and bothered.”

Another thing I love about ''The Divide'' is the fact that it continued to make me feel like I was seeing a movie on the big screen, not only reading a book. The scenes were described wonderfully, everything played out so vividly in my own head that I could not get enough of E.J’s imagination. Like I have already said, I have no idea how this woman does it. She must be secretly a ninja unicorn.

The other characters are worth mentioning as well, especially Becca and Rae. These two, together or apart, were amazing and made me laugh so much throughout the entire novel. I really hope that their story will end well in the final book. They deserve their own happy ever after (#shmoopparade, anyone?). Oh, and let's not forget about Aveline, Dev's Nocturna partner. She went from being a cold ass bitch to a very likeable character.

I'm pretty sure I left out many other thoughts that I would have liked to share with you all, but I guess that what was of great importance has been mentioned. Without further ado, I highly recommend you to read this amazing, action-packed series and I have no doubt that you will love it as much as I do. While you pick them up and devour them, I'm going to impatiently wait for ''The Destined'' to come out and destroy me completely. Because if there's a thing I know for sure, is that E.J. Mellow will thunderstruck us with it.

***I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own.***

Ok, I’m going to try to get through this review using my words. This isn’t an indication of the book being bad. FAR from it. I actually like this book BETTER than the first, and THAT is a rare thing. Most times second books are a slump between the first and third. This one though? Oh no…this one, takes all that awesome from the first, minus all the stuff I wasn’t keen on in the first, and smashes it all together with even more of the awesome chucked right on in there. That being said, Molly is back. And she’s going through the training that she needs to go through, and yes, Jared is still there in her waking life and Dev is still there in her sleeping. (but there’s resolution here!) And there’s major butt-kickage! MAJOR. And major SUCKAGE! I will tell you, when you read this, you’ll DEMAND to read the next book. D-E-M-A-N-D to. So, for those of you who have to know RIGHT FREAKINGNOW!!!!!!!GROWLBRUGJAHDNREIANGIAIOFODIDASH!!!!!!!! My suggestion is to wait until that third book comes out, so you’re not sent into non-verbal, caveman fits, like me!

I found this book highly entertaining. It was light enough to read in one sitting, and engrossing enough to keep me interested. So much so, that I now have to know….well, I CAN’T tell you!?!?!!!!!!! BUT if you’ve read it, you know what I’m talking about! *moves two fingers between my eyes and yours* We’re hur! I’m with you!

Ms. Mellow does NOT invoke her last name with this book. I wasn’t MELLOW for most of it. I will tell you that it’s WELL done. This book definitely doesn’t hit that second book slump that is common. And it is actually better than the first. I can’t wait for the third installment. I’m DYIN OVAH HEE-YAHHH!!!!! But I would most definitely recommend this book. If you don’t do the cliffhanger thing, WAIT until the next book is out, or the final one…not sure how many are planned for this! But TRUST me, put it in your wish list. In your TBR pile, where ever. I don’t care! This has the type of glossed over nookie, but boy howdy, for it to be glossed over, it was steamy. (NOT graphic in the slightest, but the point is definitely gotten across CLEARLY!) So if that’s a no-no for you. I understand that too.

"What I want to do is travel deep and deeper into the dreamlands,
to find that place that I know is waiting for me here.
My home."
—Charles De Lint

Fun time is just getting started...

I really really need to get my fair share of sitting in the Dreamer Memory Chair. All that combat skills seem to be too badass to miss a once-in-a-lifetime-kicking-butts possibility. Let alone the elongated workout-hours with Dev.

OMG. Those eyes...<3

“First rule in fighting, never let your guard down.”

While Molly is busy cleaning the Metus' clock, Dev is not exactly inclined to get off his high horse, which is just fine. Sounds like the standard role-play in an everyday relationship ;)

Footnote

Their banter is so intense that I feel the smoldering heat off the pages. I just keep waiting for the eruption of a very active volcano...

P.S.
Oh! Let's not forget Dev's twilight years during which he lost the love of his life. My poor baby. I'm sorry not being there to give him comfort.

"I can do this. I will do this. I am powerful. I can make a difference."

It feels like a cosmic journey I've been riding for some time. Terra could be so damn beautiful. I'm sure I'd pay for a one-way ticket to Dreamland. And I must admit I'm pretty envy of the flying-and-creating-things-out-of-the-blue version of Molly. Such a hard-ass. Perfect strong female heroine candidate. I vote for her.

“You know, there’s one thing I’ve learned from living in Terra—one thing that, no matter what, has always stood the test of time. It’s that all dreams have ways of coming true.”

The end was so unpredictable! I almost fall from the edge of my comfy armchair when she got stabbed. She (let alone me) just got to have fun with all her crazy mind-bowling skills like flying. The greatest dream of humanity. Gone.
So unfair! What about her mission? What about Dev and their future? Arghh....!!! I demand a delete.

OH MY TERRA! I’m in total awe! I can’t contain my feelings right now, I just finished reading this yesterday and I can’t believe that I’m already writing a review for this. It literally blew my heart and my mind.

This is the second book in The Dreamland Series, it was a perfect continuation with what happened in the first book. The plot was amazing and the world building A++. I can see myself right into this wold, the author has written every scene perfectly it felt like I was in a 3D movie whenever the characters are on the field battling. It feels so real. This book really captured my inner fantasy buff.

AHHH the characters, they’re just amazing. Thank God Molly wans’t annoying or whiny about the situations thrown at her instead she faced it maturely. Dev, well I love him hahaha! The author did a great job with the characters in this series, no doubt about it! I wish to see more Rae moments in the third book because he’s so hilarious or a novella. *wink* I find him more romantic than Dev:)

If you haven’t read this series yet, I suggest you give it a try, I didn’t really expect that I would be loving this series when I first saw the synopsis but I was clearly wrong, I wasn’t a fan of fantasy but now I guess I am. It’s a great read if you ask me, the author’s writing style isn’t boring or plain she has made every word from the pages come to life.

I can’t wait to read the final book!!! I hope everything will turn out just the way I dreamed it would be…

We all must wake up from dreams.
― E.J. Mellow, The Divide

I remember loving the first book of this series, so much. It startled me how much I liked it because, let's face it, there are a lot of books that may be similar to this but this series, it has that oomph factor that I'm always looking for.

I first read this book, last year on June and I got to admit, I forgot a lot of key things about this book. It is, to say, annoying that I forgot that quickly. But as quickly as I forgot some of the things about this book, it was also as quick as I re-dream. It was more enjoyable to read this one because we got to see and learn more of this "Dreamland," our main character always go to. (I couldn't really give my blurb about this book because I'll surely spoil it.)

The Divide. I haven't seen it coming.

Keine wirklich negativen Aspekte!

It's 11pm right now, I'm quiet sure I'm not going to get enough sleep - but damn was it right to do so. 🖤

This book. This book! Can we take a moment to discuss how this book spoiled me with joy and then left my heart broken only to be mended by book 3? This series is truly unique and in all the right ways.

I liked this and am giving it 4 stars hoping that the first book is as good, but I will admit that I am a bit confused and wish I would have read the first book before reading this.

This book was a fantastic sequel. Like, unbelievably good. Worth every star. It had an incredibly heartbreaking ending, but I’m confident things will wrap up in the next book. It was just hard to deal with in the moment. It was one of those Murphy’s Law moments—you knew what the worst thing that could happen was, and you knew it was going to happen. Well, I did, anyway. I’ve noticed a pattern. If there’s a confrontation at the very end of a book, and it’s not the last in the series, it’s probably going to end in a way that makes it a cliffhanger. A bad way.

I had forgotten some of the first book before reading this one, so I had to go and skim the last couple chapters to get a refresher, but I caught up quickly when I started reading this one. The main ideas were re-introduced. Other things came back to me as time went on. It was easy to fall into the routine again. Now, I don’t remember if I felt this way when reading the first one, but this book was extremely absorbing. I lived this book, if you know what I mean. It may have had something to do with Molly being incredibly relatable as a character, but it also may have been the general feel of it. Like the situations were so realistic as to how people actually act that it was easy to see it all playing out, to imagine that you actually have a part in it. I feel this to an extent in a lot of books, but this was an unusually intense emotional investment. I didn’t forget that I was just reading it and wasn’t actually in the story like I have with maybe one or two books before, but I did find myself having imaginary conversations with the characters at various points. When you can imagine interacting with a character in that way, that’s when you know the characters are real. (That sort of touches on a belief of mine that I haven’t written about yet—I believe all fiction is real in some way or another. I haven’t explored this too much yet as to how I really believe it, but I just know I do. It also has something to do with why I put fairy tales in the Mythology section of my bookshelf. Well, that wouldn’t make as much sense to you if you didn’t know that I consider mythology a form of religion. But now you know. I’ll probably write on this soon.) Anyway, yes. The characters are real. I love Molly. I love all of them. I knew that some of the more closed-off ones would come round. I could tell.

The world-building is still fantastic. It just keeps getting better and better. I know I described Terra as being like Disney World in my review of The Dreamer, and though it’s definitely more horrifying in this book, it still has that magical feel to it. And of course there’s the fact that it’s always night. But it really does have a way of worming itself into your life. Like the expressions… “For the love of Terra,” “In all of Terra,” etc. It didn’t quite feel like home, exactly, at least not yet, but it still felt like somewhere I’d rather stay. I didn’t want to leave. New, incredibly cool stuff just kept popping up. We saw a lot more of Terra in this book than the previous one.

So, yeah, plot got a little more intense…The tragedies were still low, though, thankfully. Not as much heartbreak as I was expecting. There was a lot of serious stuff going on at all times though. It didn’t ever become too much to keep track of, but I was still grateful for Molly’s wit and sarcasm. I burst out laughing at perhaps four points in the book and internally chuckled at several others. Also, Molly’s and Dev’s banter was still hilarious.

Speaking of Dev, yeah, still very hot. Still very typically alpha-male-with-tortured-past. But hey, that’s why we love him. Definitely doesn’t hide what he’s thinking, and thank goodness Molly doesn’t either. In fact, that’s probably my favorite thing about Molly. She doesn’t like ignoring the elephant in the room. She likes straight-out confrontation and talking about things. No mind games or petty reactions. It’s a little painful at times, the confrontations, but it definitely saves a lot of time and emotional stress. I’m not going to give spoilers on how things go with them, but it’s pretty much what you’d expect.

Oh yeah, the end again…So tons more backstory and new developments happen in this book, and it’s fantastic and all over the place, but the end goal is still very simple. However, a few big bombshells get dropped. The only one I was able to guess was the identity of a certain person at the end, but that still didn’t prepare me for what that person was going to do. So this book will keep you on your toes for sure. And a lot of the things look like they can’t be resolved. (And after that ending, it looks like a lot more important things won’t even be given a chance to resolve.) The straight-forward things might be resolved, the ones that were the biggest issues at the beginning of the book, before the bombshells and plot twists. But there are always complications. However. I am a firm believer in happily-ever-afters and I am fully expecting one in the next book. (This is a trilogy, right?) I don’t care how it gets done. They’ll find a way. Actually, I totally care how it gets done. That’s literally the only reason we ever read books. Unless it’s a tragedy, we know it’s going to end happily. And the how is the entertaining part.

So! If you haven’t read the first book and love the idea of [super amazing] dream-traveling action/romance, go for it! And then read this one! And then impatiently await the next one! Go go go! Read away! And tell me how much you loved it!

(I can’t believe I forgot how good this series was. Thank goodness I was able to read this book to remind me.)

Expected much more. I truly did not feel the romance in this book, as well as in the first one, it was just so... Weak. The plot was all right I guess, but I really didn't gain anything from this book. I will, however, give the Mousai serries a go, and see how that goes.

Rating: 4.75/5

This book is fantastic. Why? Because of the following:

Descriptions: Amazing. Everything was described to the dot, so clear a picture that it felt like more than a reality you can picture in your head; it felt like a movie. And it wasn’t the everything-was-described-to-waste-space-until-something-interesting-happens kind of descriptions, because whenever something was explained in such detail it was done so for a reason. Such as the opening scene. Terra was described so we could better picture it and understand Molly’s adventures and conflicts concerning the location. The club was explained because in doing so, Molly fell into the lure and certain things changed and developed further. The creatures they were fighting were described to help us understand the terror they infuse, as well as help us understand their motives; and yes, they’re pure evil but they’re smart and living so therefore they have motives, and in describing so, we can better predict -or try to predict since I didn’t see quite a few things coming- their future actions.

World-Building: One word: Brilliant. I adore Terra so much that I was actually hoping with every part of me that Molly would chose to stay there. It was evident that while in the real world, she was still partially in Terra mind wise, and while in Terra she rarely thought of the real world. That was one hint that Terra is the place for her, but it’s also the people there and the things she can do. With all the new things we learned about Terra, such as how they train, more about the previous Dreamers, the clubs and the restaurants and the ranks, the more we fell in love with this fictional world. Heck, if I was Molly, I’d want to sleep forever so long as I could be in Terra! The way it was all built up, and the fact that the author had to juggle between the real world and Terra and still pull it off so effortlessly is really admirable.

Characters: We got a lot of character development in this novel. Molly noticeably grew stronger and more confident, though she still has a journey ahead of her. Ave showed us a whole different side to her that was very likable, and she even shed some light for us concerning her previous behavior and some secrets that were only slighted hinted on in the first book. Becca and Rae are adorable. Dev showed us he can overcome darkness and still find light -aka he can stand tall even after a battle of broken hearts-. We also saw more from Elena, which I really liked.

Plot: I predicted a few things, but even then it was never completely accurate. Such as the ending, with Molly being attacked. I knew that was coming, I just didn’t think the attacker would do what he did nor did I know who he was until he started taking about things that clicked with other information we learned. The plot was fantastic and I was definitely kept on the edge of my seat.

Overall, this is a fantastic second installment, and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

As much as I love contemporary romance, there are times I find myself tired of the same old flavor. Now, there’s only a number of fantasy authors I follow, so I was especially happy when I discovered E.J. Mellow. Her debut novel The Dreamer‘s still one of my unexpected favorite reads of the year, and after my character + author interview with her, I was all the more excited to dive into The Divide. Thankfully, I hadn’t had to wait very long—and as you can tell from my 5-star rating, it was worth the wait.

Months ago when I asked E.J. what we could expect from the sequel to The Dreamer, she said that it would have more action, tougher challenges, and greater decisions. She didn’t let me down. Stakes were definitely upped. Molly encountered plenty of hits, both in her “awake” world and in Terra, and they weren’t just physical (though there was lots of that, too). There were the mental hits where she had to absorb her new reality and learn as much as she could about her pivotal role as the Dreamer. Then there were the emotional ones—from coming to terms with the changes in her relationships to uncovering shocking truths about people she thought she knew. In this book, Molly is put through the wringer and is forced to discover what she stands for and how much she’s willing to sacrifice for her convictions. I loved how she stepped up and showed maturity, strength, and compassion.

One of my concerns going into this book was the love triangle. I dislike it when a character wavers between two love interests, especially if (a) the indecision is prolonged, and (b) cheating is involved/is imminent. I’m happy with how this was resolved and how it allowed Molly to focus on her heroine’s journey. And yes, I’m happy with Molly’s interactions with her love interest. To say that their push-and-pull relationship made me swoon doesn’t seem enough—it merits the use of the Filipino term “kilig.” Unfortunately, I can’t expound to avoid giving too much away, but long story short, it gave me SO MANY FEELS. I’m so excited to see where book three will take this couple, especially given that cliffhanger ending (again).

As in The Dreamer, The Divide featured fantastic world-building and beautiful imagery. At some points, it made me think of Lois Lowry The Giver, Sherrilyn Kenyon’s The Dream-Hunter series, and Samantha Young’s Fire Spirits series, but it’s a unique story on its own, one that I pulled me into each page. I’m both looking forward to and dreading book three—the former, because I can’t wait to see how it ends; the latter, because I don’t want it to end just yet. That said, I’m anticipating what E.J. will come up with after The Dreamland series.

*A little spoilery if you haven’t read book 1.*

Now this is what I call mind blowing! But that cliffhanger! Omg! I can’t wait to know what’s going to happen next, specially the way things ended. I really, really need the next book right now!

Molly finally knows that Terra Somniorum is real as it can be and she has accepted her role even though it’s a dangerous one. She’s training hard to fulfill her role as the Dreamer. But when a secret comes out she’s torn between two decesions but when a figure from the past resurfaces it makes things far more complicated and leaves Molly with no choice at all.

This book was literally epic! The plot and the action gripped me from the very first page and it continued to do so throughout the book. I didn’t know what to expect from this book but it didn’t dissapoint at all. I was so happy that the love triangle was solved as well. I would’ve been more glad if Molly had actually made that decesion instead of Jared but I’m glad she finally admitted the truth. The romance was between Dev and Molly was mind blowing! The angst build up perfectly and when they finally confronted each other, that moment was literally perfect and hot! The action was more than the first book and I enjoyed that aspect a lot and Molly’s powers were pretty interesting to read.

I really liked Molly more in this book. I think it’s because she finally chose with who she wanted to be with. And I loved how much she cared about Terra and the people there. Dev was as charming as ever! I loved him. The chemistry between these two were undeniable and I loved each and every moment they were together. I also enjoyed the friendly banters between Molly and Rae. The plot twist was a bit shocking, I definitely wasn’t expecting that but the ending totally changed the game, though the epilogue gave me some amount of hope but still I can’t wait to find out how they solve everything.

Overall, The Divide was a great read, I enjoyed each and every moment of it. It was pretty fast paced and the writing was smooth and beautiful. This book was filled with a perfect combination of action, suspense and romance which was pretty awsome. I will be waiting eagerly for the next book in this series!

Great continuation of the series. This isn't a case of middle-book syndrome at all; so much happens to further the plot and a few little extras are thrown in for somewhat of an embellishment. It's nice to see the romance developing and by the end -- oooooh, the plot thickens! I'm not dying to get to the third book as much as I'd like, which tells me that I'm not as invested in these characters as I'd like. But it's still a great, underrated series. I'd recommend it.

I do wish it was on audio!

Mrs. Mellow has done it again! The Divide is a wonderful addition to her already incredible The Dreamland Series. There was a lot more turmoil in this book which, let's face it, is exactly what we are all hoping to find in a great novel. You can definitely find it here as Molly is thrust deeper into the dangerous task of accepting her birthright. Fighting a war against putrid, disgusting globs of pure evil turns out to be no easy task! Who would've thought right? She not only has to find a way to stop the Metus from destroying both Terra and Earth but also must find a way to accept the fact that she cannot save everyone!

There is a delightful abundance of character building in this installment. It was so exciting getting to know these guys on a deeper level. I friggin LOVE Rae!!! He is so endearing and naïve sometimes! And of course the uber sexy man candy Dev becomes even sexier as we learn so much more about his past and intentions for the future. He and Molly deliciously heat things up this time around!! The one thing I can say I wished I had more of in this book is more info on the Metus. I would love to get to know this enemy better. Are they mindless? How do they communicate? How do they organize? What, if anything, else is driving them to their endgame???? I need to know this as much as I need to see the gang stomp their stinky butts!!!

All in all this is an absolute gem! I am (rather impatiently) waiting for the next installment from this series. So far it has been refreshing, exciting, tumultuous, sexy and original and I adore every word of it! Great job EJ! You have yourself another fantastic piece of one unforgettable story! I can't wait to see how the rest unfolds!!
