**Review in Progress**

Mutsuki's past creates a nasty confrontation in the present. A bit confusing honestly, but there is doubt as to his purpose. Kaede learns a crucial clue about their enemy but refuses to share with the others. And another knight receives his awakening (I won't say who). Jealousy is becoming commonplace amongst the knights and looks like it might cause problems soon. Anise really needs to understand their true feelings better before that happens. Overall a decent volume, but not much seemed to really happen. A fast read.

My heart! Seiran is after my damn heart! Also, we finally got Mutsuki’s history and his awakening!!!! His tragic past just makes me want to love him more. Also, Kade what is wrong with you?! I want to feel bad for him, but I also want to punch him in the face at the same time. He needs to tell Anise and the other Rose Knights about what he knows.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the next volume!

Aww, how adorable. But poor Kaede, in all honesty I can see why Mutsuki/Quess is the fan favourite for a pairing with Anis but I think she'll end up with Kaede .. BUT OMG SEIRAN. He's so adorable I just want him to get everything he wishes for. UGH. Fictional characters why do you do this to me?!?

Re-Read Review (October 17th, 2022):

*Warning, there will be spoilers*

What we found out in this volume was jut as fun as I remembered it being the first time around. As romantic feelings continue to kick up, Shouoto is starting to expand on the reverse harem antics. Compared to other franchises, though, it doesn't feel as annoying. There's a recognition of the problems the Rose Knights will face if they become romantically involved with their Rose Princess (especially given the past), plus Anise doesn't seem to be interested in all four of the male leads the same way. I think this is where Kaede starts being teased as endgame given Anise's constant denial of how her feelings have shifted since the start of the series. Seiran's growth was also well done on top of the art quality returning to normal. I had some minor plot quibbles with Mikage here, but it's a nitpick compared to the good plot advancement.

First Read Review (February 14th, 2016):

Original Rating: 5 Stars

SEIRAN THIS VOLUME! #YES I'm really happy that he wanted to do something by himself, even though it was risky, to prove his worth to her. Kaede's still a little left out, but he's now tasked with hiding the identity of the Fake Rose Princess. How long will he do that for, I wonder? We'll have to wait and see.

Mutsuki's backstory was also fairly fascinating, with more information on the Dark Stalker's goals. Overall, this was better than Volume 5, and eagerly awaiting the next volume with open arms.

I forgot to update my progress on this one, but that's alright. This one had a lot of elements going on in it. It is actually getting kind of difficult to write about, because of all of the information going on now. There is a lot going on...

The Blue Rose got an Arcana Card, but it cost quite a lot to get it and in result he got injured by the fake Purple Rose. Anise got hurt, but Seiran took her injury instead.

The Red Rose Ended up being kissed by the girl that is so called the Fake Sovereign. He was forced into and the class was talking about it all day and was trying to bully the fake rose princess. Anise stood up for her because she doesn't know that is the fake rose princess and truly believes that they are friends.

All of the roses have decided to basically start competing over Anise and who will get to be her body guard so they start getting a little carried away and Anise is like NOPE STOP IT!

There is a lot more that goes on in this one and it is a lot of information to process and you have to process it rather quickly honestly.

So Mutsuki is the last of a race known as Dark Stalkers (which are the D&D equivalent of Tieflings minus the horns and funky skin colors) and the dark powers of his Demon Lord ancestor leaking from the broken seal are what caused his older brother to go berserk back when the incident with the Yellow Rose happened. So Mutsuki had to kill him and thus became the Black Rose, but through whatever mad science/magic they used to create the artificial roses, Yocto is back.

Meanwhile, Mutsuki has his first awakening which makes Seiren and Kaede angsty and Mikage's advances toward Kaede aren't helping...especially when people are intentionally keeping important secrets from the main character! Also that Anise assumes that Kaede was a willing participant despite him vehemently denying it and displaying the typical reactions of someone who's just been sexually assaulted.

And we have 4 out of 22 Arcana cards. And Cinderella has 7? (At least 10 are accounted for, possibly 11 because it's not clear whether Anise's fourth comes from Cinderella's batch.)

TEAM ROSTERS

This series has 9 volumes.

To sum up: President Tenjo is still a perv, Mutsuki (the Black Rose) is awakened and we find out has a very tragic past and his previously dead brother has been re-incarnated into the Fake Grey Rose - and bent on releasing the demon lord that the Rose Princess and her knights are trying to prevent from happening, Seiran is freaking adorable and finally gets awakened, and Poor Kaede. I had no idea that he was so in love with Anise, possibly before she even became the Rose Princess, but has to be the uber broody one so can't figure it out. Recommended for ages 14+, 5 stars.

So, all the knights have grown on me, and Anis continues to be a great main character. I'm enjoying the story as it develops ^_^
I sort of wish they end up being together as they are (in a perfect world it would be a sort of polyamorous relationship), but we'll see how it ends. I still think Kaede is end game, but Mutsuki also seems to have great chemistry with Anis.

A pretty emotional volume with some really great artwork.
I'm actually getting depressed that this series is only 9 volumes long, because it's actually insanely good.

Again Kaede you need to let Anise know your feelings, Seiran is even rooting for you. Don't lose out to the others.

I don't think I could really pin down why, but I really enjoyed this volume. Maybe the story building and pacing was just right for it.

kind of confusing but the shojo continues to shojo. i personally think anise should've kissed seiran but this series isn't brave enough to break the status quo like that lol

~4/5

We get to find out what Mutsuki’s dark past entails in this volume. What happened so long ago with his brother. It’s sad, for both of them.

Mostly, I’m really liking the dynamic between Anise and the knights. They’re all very devoted to her, caring and protective in their own ways, strong in their positions as her knights even if they’re fighting to be more. They all care about each other, in their ways. Although I’m hoping more attention focuses on Seiran soon, as clearly he’s been falling in the background for her affections.

Although, of course, I’m the biggest fan of Kaede, and there’s some jealousy brewing from Anise in this volume. I do like how they’re both slowly but surely being pushed to realize their feelings for each other.

I’m just plain enjoying this series. I think the art is gorgeous (god, the color pages!), and I’m in love with the characters. The humor works for me, the main plot is interesting, even if the growing list of enemies and fakes are becoming a bit much. I’m looking forward to the next volume.

Go Mutsuki!!!!!

If I was Anis, I would choose... From the options of White, Red, Black and Blue (Roses) Rhode Kngihts... From Mitsuru, Kaede, Mutsuki and Seiran...

Gah! It's too hard! I mean, I would never choose Tenjoh Mitsuru (White) so he's out of the picture, but Red, Black and Blue... AHHHH!

This is actually improving a little with each contract made. Are we going to forget about the card hunt entirely? The introduction of more characters is making this harder to keep track of. Sometimes I think this series is a dreadful mess. But then I like the characters enough to keep going anyway. Why do I do this to myself? Why do I give this four stars when it drives me this crazy?
