Lancaster County Second Chances Book 1
When an Amish widow and widower, against all odds, begin to fall in love, will they have the faith to risk their hearts a second time? After Katie Fisher's husband and young son are killed in a house fire, the young Amish widow returns to her parents' home broken-hearted with her faith in shambles. Katie can never imagine herself marrying again. But when 31-year-old Amish widower, Joseph Lapp, comes to Katie's district church service looking to hire an honest woman to help him take care of his three active, rambunctious children, Katie takes the plunge and accepts the position. Katie quickly finds herself falling in love with Joseph's children, and though Katie and Joseph cannot spend time together unsupervised due to the strict tenants of their Ordnung, the widow and widower find themselves growing closer in spirit as well. I liked the storyline in this very quick read, but it is lacking details and believable character development for the romance. Also, Katie's vanity seems insignificant, I wonder if it will be expanded upon in further books, or if it will be a forgotten piece. I'm leaning towards the latter which just makes it feel all the more like unnecessary filler to help justify breaking up a book into shorter installments. I will read the next book to see if things are fleshed out a bit more.

I'm the odd one out on this book. It was incredibly short, so short I think it took half an hour to read. I'm not a fan of novellas because they often lack character development and plot. I found the ended to fall short. I didn't feel any connection between the characters and did not see those three little words coming at all. It just didn't fit. Was she in love with the kids? Yes, that was clear. But him? No. And he had feelings for her? Since when? The author should have taken the time to focus on building their relationship. This could have easily been accomplished by using the time in the car together. She never even told him about what happened to her family.

Short fast read
I think it only took me 30 minutes to read this one. It does continue the story in the next book but I'm not sure what the length is. It was a sweet story of two people moving past sorrow and heartache in their lives.

This was a sweet short story, with endearing characters, I just wish it had been longer.

Another great read!
It is so hard to find good clean books these days. And since I lived in Middlefield Ohio when young the Amish life has always been one I found interesting and hold a great respect for. My dad and brother were both drivers for the Amish until they passed in 2002. I find Ruth Price to be one of my favorite authors of this genre and would recommend her books to anyone that is looking for clean well written christian and amish books. I have read other books of hers before but my husband bought me a new kindle fire for Christmas and it has a setting that will pop up information on the book and author upon first opening your eBook ( this feature will be an authors great friend I think ) and I read about the Shunning and info on Ruth's grandmother and found it to be so fascinating and informative! It also showed me other books she has written so I can get more, though I think I have read most already. lol Once again I recommend this book and author because her stories, settings and characters you will enjoy and feel like you know them personally.

I enjoy reading Amish stories. However,the main fault is that they are too short. I feel the author is short changing us her readers by not writing longer books. Instead she is just giving us snipits instead of a real book. Basically this is an on going clean story about findimg love again after tragic losses. I did like the book.

Short quick read. I read the whole thing in one sitting. Cute story but so short that the plot and character development wasn't that in depth. but if you need something quick to read, this is a good one.

Lancaster County, PA. Katie “Katze” Olson (26, Amish mom/widow, nee Fisher) is trying to move on.
Erik Olson (husband) & Peder Olson (3, young son) were killed in a fire.
Bishop Martin Hoffer was giving the sermon.
Joseph Lapp (31, Amish dad/widower, English furniture cabinet maker), Emma Lapp (12, daughter/sister), Hezekiah Lapp, Jeremy Lapp 7, & Caleb Lapp (5, son/brother) were also in attendance.
The next church service is at the Johan Carver farm.
Joseph hired Katie to be a maid/babysitter.
Sarah Lapp (wife/mother) had died of influenza,
It was spring so there was no school. It was time to plant/harvest.
Mr. Eli Shandy (English driver) would take Katie to/from work.
There was a storm so Katie took everyone down in the cellar.
When she ventured out the house had very minimal damage.
The barn was gone.
Joseph arrived home to find out everyone was still alive.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Amish Romance book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Amish Romance movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

Katie moved in with her parents and siblings after losing her husband and son to a fire. The grief of losing them and believing God is angry at her hugely burdens her. She believes she ought to work to make purpose in her life, and she gets word of an opportunity from her Dad. The family meets with the new prospective employer after church to get acquainted.
Joseph Lapp and his children need help to keep their household in order, they are mourning the loss of their wife/mother figure due to influenza. Katie agrees to work. The family agrees with Katie and her organizing abilities that they noticeably embrace her presence with them.
The plots bring clarity to their questions about the love of God and love between people.

Simple
This book felt more like a short story instead of a full book. It was read quickly, in less than two days. The book ended just as it should have began to tell the real story of Katie's second chance.
Many details could have been expounded upon, such as the daily activities of an Amish family. The learning process of the individuals after the losses, and during the get to know one another stages.
Instead the book, delightful as it was, hit the highlights of a quickly written novella.
I imagine that the author just wanted to sell more books.

Joseph Lapp had lost his wife and in desperate need of a woman’s help for his family of four kinder. He had heard she wanted a job and he approached her father about Katie taking care of his family. She agreed, then Katie started trusting God again. This is a really great story, enjoy.

A good Christian story about two people who had gone through losing someone special.
A very different story about how two people had dealt with tragedy in their lives. The author did a very good job of keeping you interested and I found it hard to put the book down. I enjoyed the way the children were made a big part of the love story. I would highly recommend this book to others.

Lancaster County Second Chances
I enjoyed this book, it was very inspirational when she lost everything and was praying trying to see Gods love for her, yet she was questioning if he did love her and yet when there was a storm she weathered it and through all that is when she seen how much God loved her. I didn’t want to put it down and then I would think of my book and how long before I could read it on next break. Enjoy everyone!!!

I loved this book, and I was thrilled it came with an opportunity to download the next book for free plus 4 more of her books. However, I was quickly disappointed as the link does not work and the email address sends everything back to me as not able to be received. So the email address is undeliverable as well. It feels sketchy to me. This book though was a great read.

Just what I needed!
As a PA native, it is so wonderful to come across books that treat the Amish community with dignity. No, I'm not Amish, but I did grow just one county east of Lancaster. So wonderful to read these books!

I Loved it!
I could hardly put this down. I didn't expect the ending to turn out as it did. I don't think the Amish are so public with kissing. It is a romance, after all. I still give it a 5 star.

Pleasant and enjoyable
Everyone loves a happy ending. But it is so enjoyable to know that it can be found be found among those who have suffered tragedy and loss. That they get a second chance at happiness. Great story.

This book was such a great read! Such a well written story with characters that keep you from putting the book down. If you like to read good, clean christian books, then you will definitely love this one.

Enjoyed it
I love reading Amish stories. I love that they are clean and you don't have surprise love scenes. It shows how two people can over come loses and have a second chance of love even when they are not looking for it.
