後巷說百物語 下
「若見惠比壽像的臉孔轉紅，便將有駭人災厄侵襲。」明治十年，一等巡查矢作劍之進，就某座島嶼的怪異傳說之真偽與友人起了爭議。由於爭議難解，一行人決意前往東京郊外，向一位老隱士詢求解答。此名曰一白翁之老人酷愛神鬼故事，年輕時曾欲出版百物語，因而為此周遊列國，廣蒐各地之奇聞怪談。老翁靜靜地、緩緩地述說起古老奇案。心中憶起了那聲鈴響，以及某人那句：「御行奉為－－」
昔日，曾有種名曰「百物語」的遊戲。此乃是由與會者在一夜之間說完一百則駭人、奇妙的鬼怪故事。相傳在說完第一百則鬼怪故事後，將會召徠災厄、喚醒妖物，發生某種駭人異象……
共收錄「山男」、「五位光」、「風神」三篇故事。

Three of his novels have been turned into feature films; Mōryō no Hako, which won the 1996 Mystery Writers of Japan Award, was also made into an anime TV series, as was Kosetsu Hyaku Monogatari, and his book Loups=Garous was adapted into an anime feature film. Vertical have published his debut novel as The Summer of the Ubume.

It is a nice finale to the One Hundred Tales From the Streets series, the second story is the best, and the last story which plays out as a drama of mystery and revenge is also nice.
