I didn't realize that this title had wrapped up, but after reading this I looked it up because it seemed like things were happening that might lead to some sort of a conclusion to this story.

description

I don't want to give away too much, but this volume did not do what I expected it to, and did not end up where I thought it would.
At. All.

description

Looking back on it, the flashbacks to when they were children made a lot of sense, but I (once again) surely didn't see any of their backstory coming.
And the stuff with Martha and Em's father and the death of her mother?
You get a clearer picture of the family dynamic and why things went down the way they did, especially from Martha's POV.

description

This is one of those great family dramas that plays out even more incredibly within this wacky supernatural backdrop, because everything they do is both amazing and mundane. I'm hooked and I can't wait to see how it all ends!

Walking Dead eat your heart out. This is the living dead book you should be reading. We finally see what screwed up the Cypress family so badly. The Cypress family dynamic is the engine that makes this car go. In the midst of all this horror and craziness, it boils down to this family trying (and often failing) to protect one another. We get a few steps closer to what caused this whole Revival conundrum and it all feels like it's spiralling towards a finale showdown.

After the events in the last volume of “Revival”, the government has decided to take harsher measures. There’s a new sheriff in town. Actually, she’s temporary Military Governor, General Louise Cale.

In Volume 6, “Thy Loyal Sons and Daughters”: the real threat isn’t from the newly-revived or the ghost-monsters roaming the woods but a band of gun-loving religious right-wing nut jobs calling themselves the Hunters of the Beast; the military has caught a ghost-monster and unleashed it on the population of revivers to see what happens, but the results are not at all what they expected; Martha Cypress is going all zombie-terminator-bitch on the Hunters; Dana continues her unofficial investigation into the murder of her sister and everything leads to a local family, the Blackdeers; the showdown between Jesse Blackdeer and Martha reveals a few more clues as to what the heck is going on.

We’re getting closer to finding answers to the mystery of this small town in Wisconsin, which is great but also a little sad, because it usually means the series is about to end...

this chapter really came into its own, easily one of the highlights since the series begun. This story is starting to grow complicated as answers trickle out. Em has grown into this fearless reviver who is out for revenge against Blaine, this storyline comes to an end. The aftermath of the bombing draws to a close with some reveal of the sheriff's past. The problem with most of the other chapters was the unrevealing plotline but it has finally delivered. This series may test your patience but its hard to fault this brilliant chapter.

Man, things are really starting to come together here. The cliffhanger from the last volume is wrapped up a little too quickly, and I wish there was just a little more emphasis on it, but it works. Otherwise, there is a LOT that happens, some loose ends are tied up, some questions answered. You get a little more look at the history of the Cypresses and why they are the way they are. Still just a really riveting and well done book. You should check it out if you have any interest.

Now we're getting somewhere. By the end of the volume, I was starting to get excited about this story again. At the same time, I hope that Seeley is getting close to his final destination. I don't want this to be drawn out much longer.

This in my opinion is one of the best horror series being currently published, at which Image excels, also with The Walking Dead and Outcast.

So I return to the world of the Revivers in the 6th instalment of Revival. Here we start to see the plans of the various group, agencies and players start to come out in to the light (however I am still not going to give any spoilers).

One thing I do like - and yes I did go back and look at the previous instalments to be sure of this - is the consistency of the books. From the quality of the artwork to the subtly of the storyline, I really do feel like I am reading the same story just divided up in to instalments.

So yes I do feel a connection to the characters and I do want to see the good guys win and the villains brought to justice but as the book goes on you realise that those are minor issues compared to a much bigger chain of events which you see from first page (as a result of events of the last book) but which have far reaching consequence.

You can tell that the story has been mapped out long ago and that we are now starting to see the final act being played out.

Patrick Rothfuss!!

World: Art is great, the first issue was a bit jarring with another artist but overall it's been great. The world building is great, we are moving towards the end and the world building is still going strong with the central mystery done well and the pieces slowly coming into place.

Story: Great in it's core and tone. The central mystery is absolutely fantastic and the drama with the Cypress family this arc was good. There is a bit of jankiness with some of the Farm characters and also the government stuff that do irk me, but overall the story has been absolutely fantastic.

Characters: So the Cypress family have been amazing and their flawed sad story is so good. Farm characters are a bit janky in their motivations and development but overall it's been good. The central mystery which is character related is still very good and I see we are getting close to getting some answers.

This series is good.

Onward to the next book!

I like this series, but there's a lot going on. I tend to forget where I left off between volumes, so for me this would probably better if I read them all in sequence to get the full story.

That being said, this is a very interesting and original series. The dead come back to life. Okay, been there, done that, right? But what happens after that is all new. I don't even know where to start, so I will just tell new readers to start with Volume 1 and go from there. The art is good and the story is even better, so if you like "horror with story" this one could be for you.

UPDATE: That first line of my review is interesting because it's spot on, and that's what I'm doing now, reading them all in sequence. So much better that way. There are still things Im confused on but hopefully it all gets cleared up by the end of the series. Really enjoying this one.

First let me admit that I accidentally skipped vol 5. And somehow nothing seemed askew, the only curious thing was that May Tao was dead and I didn’t know how. I thought it was to be taken as fact that it had happened without us having been shown it. Ooooh well. Gotta go back and refresh, but in the mean time...

3.5 rounded up to 4. The story is being dragged out quite a bit and I really don’t have any interests in these flashbacks showing teen/childhood drama between sisters Dana Cypress and Em. If anything, I find myself being annoyed at little girl Em. I would’ve smacked her too if I were her older sister!

The storyline with Em has been starting to bore me but it picked up a bit with a newfound pregnancy! So things could be getting interesting there pretty quickly...zombie baby? Demon baby? Regular baby?

And yayayyyyayyyy! FINALLY! We get some info on what the f is going on here with the Jesse Black meets white zombie demon reunion. Soul meets body! [🎶Deathcab song plays here🎶] Finally finally finally praise allah, some progress is made. Hopefully Vol 7 brings us more answers as we gear up to wrap up the series.

Art has been consistently on point tho I have to say, no complaints in that department.

A fucking murderer!!

This volume begins where the last one left off: Revivers are sent to "rehab," and Dana Cypress is a good cop. One sunny day in the woods, Dana walks into a trap, set up by Blaine Abel, the young man who manipulated Martha that he was doing the right thing, eventually killing May Tao. Martha (Em) is also chasing Abel, eventually kills him. No wonder the cover shows Martha with bloody hands against the fence. This is where the plot thickens...

There are many flashbacks in this volume concerning Dana Cypress.
A fit elderly man enters the picture claiming to be C.I.A. mentions Dr. Ibrahim Ramin is part of his squad. When I first started this series, I thought Ibrahim was Mexican. Plus, General Louise Cale is a lesbian, but the county doesn't know that.

A new character, General Cale is put in charge to replace the Mayor. She seems like a badass.
The Cypress sister's past gets revealed though a series of flashbacks.
And looks like it's the end of the line for John Doe.

It's still great, it's still my favorite series, but this one felt a little bit scattered to me. It was like that TV series where they introduce a new character and you're frustrated because they didn't spend enough time on the characters you really like. It doesn't matter if the new general is interesting, a gay, black, female general with a wife that she cheated on and is trying to reconcile with and a cute kid who's being bullied at school. There could be some good stories there, but we barely saw Cooper, the Chief, Ibrahaim... OK, maybe they did need to add a some new characters, they killed off a lot of people and most of the others are stuck in The Farm. And Cooper sure needs a friend his own age, I'm sure the kids will get along when they meet up. It was good to get some answers in this book, the story advanced a bit. I just didn't quite feel the depth and layers of storytelling I'd come to expect from Revival. But it's still the best series going and if you haven't tried it, you should, even if you don't normally read comics. The characters and storytelling are so great, it's compelling reading. I'm always amazed at how much they convey in such a compact amount of space. These people are masters at what they do.

Still way too many questions about everything, with no clear answers being revealed. I'm thinking the ghosts hanging around are the souls of those who came back to life, and are waiting to be reunited with their owners, but yet there is still some murkiness about that explanation too. Such as- can souls be killed so they can't be reunited with their original owner, leaving the body to eternal earthly life? And why is the Professor's book a part of the mystery? I'd like more puzzle pieces please, so I am not so frustrated at the end of each volume.

Wow,...another super strong entry for this series. In my opinion there is no weakness in this series, every volume, every issue is high quality entertainment. On to Vol. 7, highly recommend!

The saga continues with more hints and no real resolutions. It's a good series but I'm ready for it to wrap up.

Mike Norton and Mark Englert continue to quietly dazzle with this illustration. They're consistently great enough that I'm surprised their names are unfamiliar to me.

If you are wondering whether I am still enjoying this series, over 30 issues in, the fact that I am writing this review less than 24 hours after reading and reviewing the last book should more than answer that question. 12 issues in as many waking hours. Yeah, I'm still enjoying this series. That being said, we've finally started to hit a few little speedbumps here and there. The easiest way for me to put it would be, the series is starting to condense, rather than expand. One of my favourite things about these books were the expansive scope of the world, the larger cast of characters and the significant dialogue. It turned it from something lighter and less involved, into something more measured and meaningful. Well, as the story slowly winds down, many of those things have started retracting. Like a shining star, slowly fading towards its own, inevitable destruction. No, I certainly hope this book doesn't implode in some horrific cataclysm nearer its conclusion, nor do I think it will. It's just the cast of characters is smaller, some of the mysteries have been revealed (some of which I liked, some not so much) and a bit of action schlock crept in here and there, relegating the dialogue to the side line at times. I realised at some point during this book, that I had read so many action stories recently, that I was growing increasingly weary of increasingly meaningless and bloated fight scenes, used to pad out a story lacking in depth, being little more than nutrition-less eye candy. I've said before, if the story doesn't sell the fight scene before and afterwards, it has little relevance or impact, and quickly wears thin on me. I sincerely hope this book doesn't continue down such roads... But fear not for now. This was still very good and absolutely worth your time. 4/5
