A fascinating journey back in time to revisit the original TV classic with the man who personified Perry Mason! Raymond Burr discusses the timeless popularity of the show, his co-stars and his career. In the process, we get a tantalizing glimpse into the fifties and sixties. Were the times really so different from today? Learn more about some of Raymond Burr's bizarre biographies, his good and bad movies (including his sense of humor about the bad ones!) And find out why he wasn't at all sure, in the beginning, that "Perry Mason" would be a success!
As a writer, I hate to leave negative reviews, but Brian McFadden leaves little choice. Starting with the positives, however, if you're a Perry Mason fan or a Raymond Burr fan, then you will probably learn some tidbits about both subjects, and the book is well-illustrated with a nice collection of photographs.
McFadden wrote this book in 2016 based on his notes from a couple of interviews (I suspect one interview) that he did with Raymond Burr in 1985. It's part biography of Burr, part history of the show, part memoir of how Perry Mason reminds McFadden of the good old days when he was a kid. It reads as if it was thrown together in a hurry in an effort to make a quick buck off the name "Perry Mason."
i was impressed by the skilled writing talents of the author as well as the infomative details of ramond Burr and the other ensemblse cast , these actors were great . hard working ! professional ! the show catures the mid 1950 to mid 1960,! plenty of street scenes and movie quality direction and fast paced scrits . you enjoy a fine review buy !
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have always been a Perry Mason fan. I can remember watching this in my grandparents living room when I was five years old.The author did a wonderful job. I could not put the book down. I read it cover to cover in one afternoon. That is a sign of an excellent book.
I thought I was buying a book - this is just an enhanced interview. It looked like a biography, or at least some researched info about the man and his career. Instead it’s a rambling account of an interview with a few facts and stories about the show and a lot of the authors feelings about the man.
A rather flimsy text. However a decent read. It seems more like an edited version of a series of articles in a entertainment magazine honouring Raymond Burr.
If you are a Raymond Burr/Perry Mason fan, I highly recommend this book. It contains a lot of facts about the series. It was a very quick read and kept me turning pages.
A quick and entertaining read for fans of the original TV series. The author was a devoted fan himself and had the opportunity to interview Burr several times. Includes background on Burr, his costars, and details of producing the series.
I love the series: Perry Mason. It was interesting to read the background of where the episodes were filmed, the many actors/actresses that were on the episodes and Raymon Burr’s take on the series.
A very insightful book about the show Perry Mason. It is very well documented with photos on almost every page. It is short, fast paced but very entertaining .
This was not quite as detailed as I had hoped, but what is included was quite interesting. There weren't any complete interviews; just excerpts from several that the author conducted with Mr Burr. This was obviously a fan's view, but there is the ring of truth to it. I was hoping for a few more insights from Mr Burr on the other regular cast members, but none were mentioned beyond the usual 'he or she' was good to work with, etc. It was a nice 'short' read, but I was expecting more substance. I'm glad I got it at a good price, even though it fell short.
