Lara Hunter’s life is finally headed in the right direction. With a good education, a great new job, and her dear best friend, Kade, by her side, nothing can get in her way until a freak rain storm leaves her sprawled across the road in the middle of a busy intersection during rush hour traffic.
Reed Prescott rakes in millions on business deals every day. He’s driven and hard-edged and his life is quite complicated enough before a silly little girl in outrageous high heels bites it in front of his moving vehicle. With no other choices, he forces her out of the pouring rain and inside his car. His concern isn’t necessarily with her safety, but to ward off any potential lawsuit.
While Lara’s not entirely sure she appreciates Reed’s high-handed helpfulness, Reed’s whole world is rocked by the honesty and genuineness of the captivating beauty underneath that soggy exterior. Reed’s success in business has always been fueled by hate for his dysfunctional birth family, so when the potential for love stands in front of him, can this hardened man find a way to chase after happy?

Overall Opinion: This was a pretty easy read with not that much drama. I had some major issues with the H (especially for the first half of the book) being a jerk, and the h allowing him to be. The h had self esteem issues from her childhood, and that point was brought up too much for my taste (especially with her asking the H "why me?" several times)...and just became kind of annoying IMO.
Storyline: This was Lara and Reed's story. They meet when Lara is rushing to get to her new job in the pouring rain and almost gets run over by Reed. Reed takes her to his office to get checked out, and once she gets taken care of and all cleaned up it is lust at first sight. After a misunderstanding and the couple have some steamy times, Reed decides that Lara is worth taking a chance on (and going against his usual MO) and start dating her. They both have self esteem issues stemming from their past, but they work through all that and find their HEA.
POV: This alternated between focusing on Lara and Reed in 3rd person POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. No slow parts, and no instalove.
H rating: 2 stars. Reed. He kind of ruined it for me. I feel like he was too much of a jerk for the first half and I don't think that he fully redeemed himself after the first sexual experience .
h rating: 3 stars. Lara. She was a little better, but not much. I wanted her to have more of a backbone at times (like after above spoiler where she forgave him without much mention of what happened).
Sadness level: Low. No tears here.
Heat level: Moderate. They have some steamy times, I just had trouble getting over that first experience.
Descriptive sex: Yes.
Sex scene with OW or OM:
Cheating:
Possible Triggers:
Closure: This technically would have a HEA, but I still wanted more closure. Maybe a further jump ahead into the future?
Worth the $?: This was with kindle unlimited, so I don't feel like I lost money...just not going down as one of my favorites.
Fantastic debut novel. I always love discovering new authors and this novel was a great introduction to this author's writing. I loved the solid characters and interesting plotline. Lara has finally managed to get the job of her dreams. She is the new public relations specialist for a big firm. Her first day is destroyed when fate-and bad weather-throw Reed in her path. Reed. Arrogant, cold and calculating Reed. He is not in the least interested in Lara's predicament but out of fear of seeming bad in the public eye, he helps her when he hits her with his car. His life changes when Lara forces him to see what life really is. Sweet, honest and charming Lara will get under his skin and make him question everything. One thing is for certain; one night with her will not be enough. I loved the character development. Rylie Robetts took the overtold billionaire plot and turned it into something deep and emotional. Her characters' inner thoughts were amazing and gave us insight to their personalities. Her heroes were animated and real. The secondary characters added a lot to the story. Especially Kade. I loved him The pace was steady and slow without getting tiring. Well done. I highly recommend this debut novel. You will love it. 4 Stars from me!!! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Lara Hunter is beyond excited when she lands a job in PR at a prestigious company. She would never have imagined the turn her life was going to take when she found herself sprawled across the road after taking a fall in a rainstorm as she made her first commute.
Reed Prescott is the kind of man who doesn't have time for things like careless women who fall flat on their faces right in front of his moving vehicle. Motivated by nothing more than avoiding a lawsuit and/or bad press, Reed goes over the top making the situation right for the girl. He wants her cleaned up, outfitted, taken care of, and then shuffled on her merry little way so that he can move on with his life.
Then, he gets a good look at her. Lara is beautiful, inside and out. She's a real person, a good person, she's not out to make trouble for Reed—she just wants to get back to her life. Reed is drawn to her, this innocent, moral woman, more foreign to him than the investments he's dealing with overseas. He's not sure what to do with these feelings. While having a vast amount of experience with women, Reed doesn't necessarily have a lot of experience with feelings. He begins to try to navigate into a relationship with Lara and the results are—all over the place. Reed is infuriating, endearing, comical, sweet, heartbreaking, and sexy.
Lara doesn't immediately fall at Reed's feet. She's not impressed with his high-handed approach towards her. She's drawn to him, but put off by his calculating demeanor. Reed isn't always a very nice person, and being nice is something that Lara values.
These two are crazy hot together. There is undeniable physical chemistry. There's also an intellectual chemistry, where Lara keeps Reed on his toes. It was fun to read their give and take, and to watch how hard Reed worked for her. I did have some issues though—there's a likeability factor that's missing in Reed for most of the story. For a while I actually loathed him, which made it difficult for me to get attached to the idea of the couple. He grew on me as he developed over the course of the book, but there was almost a Kindle throwing moment in there, and that was a hard thing from which to recover.
Lara was sometimes perplexing for me as well. She's incredibly likeable—but sometimes makes really questionable decisions. Repeatedly. I think some of those lapses in judgement were supposed to be sexy, but I struggled to embrace it, probably because I wasn't convinced that Reed was worth it.
Criticisms aside, I really did enjoy this book. There's a wonderful fleshing out of characters, and watching them evolve which was incredibly rewarding. Reed, especially, becomes more human while maintaining that sexy alpha dominant thing that he does so well.
The real magic in this story, for me, was in the relationships outside of Reed and Lara. Lara and Kade's relationship was freakin' ADORABLE and I would like to lobby hard for Kade to get the next book because he's amazing. Funny and sexy and the best, best friend that a girl could possibly ask for. It was Lara's interactions with Kade that felt most authentic for me, and then later—Reed's interactions with Kade were heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time.
Likewise, Reed's family and friends were hilarious, and tugged at my heart. I have secondary character crushes on almost all of the secondary characters—which means good things for the series moving forward, I think!
I went into this book thinking it was going to be light and fluffy and was surprised at how deep it went. There are some heavy topics touched on here, but the ending is happy and so am I. As a debut book from a brand new author, this was a solid, captivating read, and I am left satisfied and anxiously awaiting the next in the series. ~ Shelly, 4 stars
On her way to her first day at her dream job, Lara flat out falls in front of her new boss - who she does not know is her new boss.
Reed is momentarily worried about her suing him, but once he sees her, really sees her, he is immediately intrigued by the beautiful woman in front of him. He is not sure what to do with these feelings he has for her - he doesn't do the relationship thing, more of a wham bam thank you ma'am kind of guy.
I loved that Lara did not instantly succumb to his charms. She is a bit put off by the way he acts towards her, tells her rather than asks her, that kind of stuff. She is attracted, no doubt about it, but he has other attributes that tone down that attraction.
I am not sure what it was, but there was just something missing from Reed that stopped me from going from the "yeah I like him" to the "OMG I love him". Can't quite put my finger on what it was though - maybe it was just my frame of mind at the time of reading, maybe it is just me.
And Lara's oft repeated "I don't see myself like that", rather than her being the sexy mama that Reed and her besty keep telling her - it frustrated me. It was not like she had terrible self esteem, just GAH! It made her feel more immature than she really was.
There is no denying that when they are together, the sexy times are hot as f*&k. Fanning myself here!
Although I liked Lara and Reed, at times I just didn't feel them.
There are some great secondary characters and relationships in Chasing Happy. Lara and Kade - her bestie - have an amazing relationship, feels so real. You can't help but love Kade. I reaally, really hope that his is the next book in the series.
Reed's family and friends are amazing. They are wonderful, funny, snarky, so much love.
This was a solid start from a debut writer. It touched on some deeper, darker topics than I expected, and it captivated me enough that I am looking forward to more in this series.
Let me start out by saying I can not believe this girl is a first time author. People, if this is her first book, then I can’t wait to see what is in store for us. Chasing Happy was such a great book! I was absorbed into this story line immediately upon reading the first chapter.
Chasing Happy is the story of Reed, an arrogant millionaire playboy and Lara, a quiet beauty embarking on her first steps towards the life she has always wanted. Love wasn’t a in the plans for either, but when their paths cross and undeniable chemistry ignites forever changing their minds, lives, and hearts.
Roberts does an absolutely amazing job of developing and writing these characters. Each characters is equally frustrating, yet lovable. Reed drives you absolutely insane with his hatred for his family and the pain they’ve caused due to a terrible childhood. At times, Reed’s anger is almost too much to bear, yet when he looks at Lara his entire demeanor changes and you find yourself falling hard for this gentle giant. Lara is the epitome of beauty, charisma, and class, yet she still views herself as this timid, weakling of a child whose father didn’t love her enough to notice her, take care of her, and want her. Both are still struggling to overcome their pasts and believe they are wanted and worthy of love.
Chasing Happy is truly one of those reads that will pull you in capturing your attention to the very end. If this is Robert’s first book, you need to get aboard her train now because this book was phenomenal. I can only imagine what this author will bring to the table in the near future.
The story fell apart for me after 45%. I just got bored. The heroine and her mentioning her shoes annoyed me. I got it...she liked nice shoes. I wish authors would stop repeating things!!!
The heroine falls in front of the hero's car. She is on her way to her new job. First he thinks nothing of her. He just wants to have sex with her, but she thinks he is gay because no good looking man like him ever is interested in her. So she tries setting him up with her best friend, Kade. The hero goes along with the lie so he can get closer to the heroine. They become friends, but things happen pretty quickly once, the hero admits that he is not gay.
A fun-to-read sizzler with a multi-millionaire, whose ego is the size of Texas and a young woman with self-esteem problems brought about by a horrible childhood. Nothing really new. But still a good read with a style all its own. Set in Dallas, Texas among the high rollers. Her roommate and best friend is gay and a cop. He, too, has issues and hopefully we'll see his story in an installment in this new series by a debuting author.
Captivating..Addicting…Masterful debut novel by Rylie Roberts. Rylie bring her characters to life and made me fall in love with Reed and Lara on every page.
Sexy…Lustful…Passionate…between the steamy scenes and meaningful topics Chasing Happy makes for an all around amazing read.
Riley Roberts is a new author for me but I fell in love with the synopsis and cover so I thought what the heck. I was so glad that I did. Chasing Happy is exactly what the title tells you! It’s about chasing your happy and never thinking you will find it. However once you do find it will you be terrified to fight for it and do whatever it takes to keep it?
Rylie did a great job writing the character Reed. He is sexy, successful and stubborn as hell. A little cockiness and a whole bunch of Alpha, Rylie makes up the complete package except his past has always haunted him. Despite his success he can’t seem to let go of the life he was born into. He seemed determined to live his bitter existence until Lara was thrown in the mix and that’s when everything changed.
OMG I loved Lara. She is sweet and genuine. She is a bit naïve but I think that’s what I loved about her the most. She is a strong female lead that sometimes needed a little bit of guidance. Lara is well-developed character that was very easy to fall in love with.
This was an easygoing fun read that touched on some dark times. There was passion, angst, and humor all wrapped into one. Off the charts in the steam category but not overly so. Rylie did a great job with balancing the steam factor without only giving us that and not so much of a story line. She did a wonderful job with getting me intrigued with the storyline and having sexy time as a bonus. It was defiantly a page-turner for me and I became an instant fan of hers and can’t wait to see what her next story has for us.
5 happy stars to Chasing Happy and to Rylie Roberts. For a debut novel she has done an excellent job! And I really can't wait to see what else she puts out. Lara Hunter has finally got a great job that is hopefully going to help her get ahead in life. She has worked really hard to get her education and not fall into the same lifestyle her dad is in. And with her best friend Kade by her side protecting her. Reed Prescott has built his empire up just to take down his grandfather any way possible. He has built walls to keep people out. He goes for the bimbos that know how to do one night stands because he doesn't want anyone to close. After he was taken away from his addict of a mom he was adopted by his best friends parents but he still doesn't think he's worth much. Then a freak accident puts them together, Reed wants Lara like no other woman he's meet before but Lara doesn't see that. And when he starts getting to know Lara he thinks he may want something more but he's afraid that she will leave as soon as she knows his past and he feels he's not good enough for her. She's afraid that he will leave or hurt her just like everyone else in her life besides Kade. Can they work through their insecurities and find happiness or will they destroy all possibilities of happiness? Find out by reading this book. I definitely recommend this book. Loved the dynamics of all characters and can't wait to read their stories, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Rylie Roberts can do after this perfect debut!
CHASING HAPPY was one of those books that took me by surprise. I loved the characters and the storyline made it hard for me to put the book down.
Lara and Reed had that chemistry that I love. The love/hate vibe they try to hide behind when all they want to do is rip the clothes off each other. They had that from practically the moment they met. Lara tried to fight it and Reed tried to exploit it, which led to some very interesting and lively interaction between the two of them. Especially considering Lara thought Reed was gay and was trying to set him up with her best friend Kade. But as they worked together, got to know each other, their romance grew into something that was solid. Something that proved to Reed that he could have a loving, happy relationship like his adoptive parents.
Lara had her hands full with Reed, but she also had her own issues with men to weed through as she got to know Reed. Once she judged Reed on his own and let go of her past she was able to let Reed in and grab onto a happily ever after she craved, but didn't think she'd find.
This was a great start to the series and has me anxiously waiting to see what comes next. CHASING HAPPY is definitely a book to pick up.

But, good God, what an annoying heroine. She went past the point of stupid and entered clueless. Why me, why me, why me....over and over and over. I have no idea what he saw in her, but I just couldn't feel it. And I never felt what she was seeing in him. Part of the book she's trying to set him up with her gay best friend. This gets mentioned even after they've been together and her gay best friend says something about her moving in with the H. See what I mean. And as much as the h is annoying, well guess what.....yeah, the H has his moments too. I'm trash because of my family. There is nothing more annoying than self deprecating characters. I am not kidding. There is nothing more hot than an alpha male who is confident and strong....hence alpha. There's nothing wrong with a little humility because it shows humanity. But when too much space is paid with a character tearing themselves apart it just becomes a book of weak characters. Sadly these storylines just don't end up working for me because I get annoyed with repeated feel sorry for me moments because the character thinks they aren't good enough, are too broken, aren't rich enough, not pretty enough, horrible past.......blah, blah, blah. Romances with characters who have to talk themselves into being with a character is ridiculous. Seriously who has to give themselves a pep talk to begin a relationship with someone?
Rylie Roberts has written the best first book I have read by a first time Author. Chasing Happy is truly that in reading this story. Lara finely has her first job and it is a dream. Reed is an arrogant, focused, demon driven, wealthy business man. They both have horrid past that influences the idea of ever finding Happy. Lara has Kade, her protector and roommate. Reed has four best friends with whom he grew up. Their lives collide on a rainy morning in Dallas and then the Chasing begins. The painful revelations of each of their past is heartbreaking. The struggles to understand each other and how to be in a relationship are wonderfully written. Rylie Roberts's storytelling voice is great to read. I was given this book. I very much enjoy this story. I look forward to more stories from Rylie Roberts. I am so glad I got to read this book, I think you will be too. Give a new author a try; it will be well worth your time.
I may be in the minority but for the beginning part of the book it felt a little slow moving and not captivating enough for me. I just can’t put my finger on it and I don’t know why. But that never stopped me and I continued on and I’m glad I did.
I loved the progression these characters made after I got over my hump. Both had tragic pasts but each had their own way of coping and overcoming those obstacles. This story touched on some heavy topics but in the end everything worked out. Like the stars aligned and these two were fated to be together.
The ending was perfect for this story and I look forward to reading more in the series. I really hope that Kade gets a book next. He deserves a happy ending too. For a first novel this was well written and overall good book. I look forward to more from Rylie Roberts. I’m glad I took a chance on this new author and so should you.
Laramie known as Lara by her friends is about to start a new job. She is a little spit fire who has had a rough life. Her father is known as the town drunk in her hometown in NC. She has moved to Texas to live with her best friend Kade. Now on her way to her new job something unexpected happens.
Reed is a wealthy business man who is totally alpha. He is also a very angry man who just needs something solid in his life to count on. Sadly he went about it the wrong way. Once he finds it will he be able to keep her?
This was a great debut book from this author! I will enjoy reading more books by Rylie Roberts. 5 stars for such a great story that kept me intrigued and kept me wanting more!
There's nothing new here, or anything truly enjoyable about this book.
I found nothing likable about Reed... he's a jerk who has no idea how to treat anyone kindly... including his own friends and family. Poor Lara doesn't know any better because everyone in her past life has treated her poorly, so she's swayed by fancy clothes (although she protests, she still accepts them).
I found this relationship sad, which tainted the erotic parts of it. This wasn't even romantic.
I like to make it 3.5 stars but prefer to round it up rather than down. Goodread should start allowing for half stars.
Romance is good and I really liked Lara and Kade and how Lara changes Reed.
The concept of becoming a billionaire though, from nothing in 10 years is a bit unrealistic. Otherwise really enjoyed it. Oh, and also way too many sex scene. it starts to get boring and take away from the nice romance.
We meet Lara and Reed in this book. Lara is excited to begin a new job until she is caught in a storm and nearly hit by a car. Trying to prevent legal issues Reed goes above and beyond for Lara. Right away Lara is uninterested and tries to set Reed up with her best friend Kade. The chemistry between these two was great. Even the secondary characters were loveable. What a great read.
Chasing Happy is my first book by Rylie Roberts, so I didn't know what to expect. WOW!! What a great surprise. Ms Roberts has delivered a well-written book. The characters in this story were phenomenal. Ms Roberts did an outstanding job, these characters are perfect for this story, not only the main characters, but the whole cast of characters were awesome. She rates an A+ for characters. Reed and Lara's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle and while both characters had issues growing up, the story isn't angsty and depressing. I enjoyed Chasing Happy way more than I expected to and look forward to reading more from Rylie Roberts in the future. Chasing Happy is book 1 of A Texas Ever After Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
The story was okay but I didn't like the main characters- Reed is controlling, overbearing and manipulative, he doesn't really seem to listen to Lara he does improve towards the end but at the beginning he's verging on creepy/abusive the way he keeps pushing when she says no and he manipulates her.
Lara didn't really seem like a real person, apparently stunningly beautiful but totally unaware of it, super nice to everyone and most people seem to like her but she says no one likes her. She also doesn't seem to have much of a backbone with Reed which was annoying.
The characters just didn't seem to have much depth or believability in general.
Both Reed and Lara had issues from their childhoods that gave them doubts in relationships. They were able to overcome those and find happiness together. Great story, great characters. I'm hoping some of these characters show up in future books, especially Lara's best friend Kade. Looking forward to reading more in this series.
I absolutely fell in love with Lara and Reed. Reed's affection for Lara even in his cynicism was never demeaning like some alpha's are and love scenes were sensual without being overly descriptive. The entire story was just humorous and believable. It is my new favorite book!
Chasing Happy is the story of two very different individuals who believe they have little internal value to offer the world. Due to the hardships and damaged created during their youth, both character seem to think there are reasons they will never be good enough for someone as a long term commitment. One has been hardened by life, seeking revenge in all he does, and one has learned to love and care with her whole heart regardless of how much it may hurt later.
So when the when the cocky, sexy, controlling, and revenge-driven billionaire and CEO Reed Prescott meets the smart, compassionate, and genuinely humble Lara Hunter, his world is tilted on its axis. But will Reed’s anger and hurt be more than he can overcome? And will Lara find she is proven right in her self-doubt, knowing that Reed is only interested in her for the short term?
If this is the level of writing that Rylie Roberts is producing with her debut novel, I will continue to follow her work. Well done! It was the deep level of hurt and the heavy topics that were mention in the book that gave a surprising depth to the story and created an emotional connection to the characters introduced in the series Roberts has planned. And although the story focuses on the relationship between Reed Prescott and Lara Hunter, it was not necessarily their romantic relationship together that kept me asking for more, as their chemistry took a longer time for me to appreciate; instead, it was the childhood background and the damage each was fighting in life and the support each brought to the other that grew on me. Both Reed and Lara will a little more difficult to immediately love: Reed with his alpha male ego and hardened heart, and Lara with her meek disposition and self-doubt. However, both character will grow on the readers, and the background and history of the lives these characters has will help readers connect with how situations of the past can shape the behaviors and attitudes of the future.
There was, however, a stronger side story between Lara and her best friend Kade Michaels. The love and care Kade bestowed upon Lara was heartwarming. Kade is the type of friend every person needs—someone who cares so deeply and passionately, someone who is willing to protect their friend no mater the consequences. For me, Kade was the showstopper. He was the character with the most depth in the story, and I am sure we have not seen the last of him. Roberts was also able to build in a strong set of supporting character. Both Lara and Reed had people in their lives cheering them on and looking out for their best interests. It is this group of secondary characters and their love and passion for one another that will keep readers searching for more from this series.
Overall, this was a great read, and I am looking forward to the continuation of this series with the next installment, Acting Happy.
Chasing Happy is a great duet novel by Rylie Roberts and the start to a series I know I will be hooked on. I can never get enough of a man-whore in a suit that might have found their match and want more...
Lara has worked hard to get where she is today. She is on her way to her first day of a new job that she is nervous about but she has her power suit on and her lucky Jimmy Choos. Well, the day doesn't go as planned...she doesn't even make it to her office before everything goes in a totally different direction. Either her shoes aren't too lucky or are they exactly what she needed to find the man of her dreams?
Reed didn't have the best childhood but he was determined to make his life a success and he has in everything but love. Let's just say he is a man-whore and doesn't go for seconds. He has never had a girlfriend and doesn't plan on having one anytime soon. But when he nearly misses a woman on the street while driving to work, he just might have met his future. He didn't know it at first but later that day, he is speechless. He wants her and will do anything to get her but will it only be for one night like he plans or every night after?
Reed and Lara didn't have a love at first sight moment. It was definitely a story to tell but it was more of a lust at second sight kind of moment. He was stunned that he actually wanted to get to know her and not just want to know what her favorite position was. She was beautiful, smart, funny and he couldn't get her out of his mind. There was some communication issues but once those were settled, these two were amazing together...
Reed and Lara had many things in common without really knowing it. They both had a rough past, worked extremely hard to get where they were in the world, neither of them have been in a serious relationship, and they thought they were out of each other's league. Could they get past all of their insecurities to be happy?
I, very much enjoyed Reed and Lara's story of chasing happy. They are great characters that are made for one another. He makes her feel special and she makes him want to be a better man in and out of the boardroom and bedroom.
Overall...it was a great debut, it made me laugh, swoon, get hot and bothered and I even teared up. I can't wait to read the next book, Acting Happy.
Quotes:
“You should have flowers every day,” he said, meaning those words.
“You don’t see yourself clearly,” he finally said.
On her first day of her new job, Lara is freaking out over starting, and things seem to go from bad to worse. As she's on her way to work, she ends up falling in front of a moving car. Reed was more worried about being sued than anything else, and throws Lara in his car to have her looked at and taken care of. Neither one of them could have predicted how much that one event would change both their lives forever.
Lara is cute and a little niave when it comes to Reed. She thinks one thing about him and ends up making a fool out of herself. Reed at first just wants Lara in his bed, but the more he gets to know her, he knows there is something special about her and wants to hold on for as long as he can. Lara and Reed definitely have a unique relationship, and I enjoyed seeing the two of them work through all of the things in their past, and try to make things work. I must admit, at first I was NOT a fan of Reeds, but he definitely grew on me throughout this book.
Reed pulls out all the stops to get Lara to fall for him, but Lara doesn't see herself how everyone else does, so she can't figure out how someone like Reed would want anything from her. Lara does have some self esteem problems, but a lot of that comes from her past as you will learn in this book. She is quite a feisty character, and I loved seeing her keep Reed on his toes a lot in this book. The one thing that bothered me, is where everyone else could see Reed was in it for the long haul, she really doubted it a lot and it was frustrating at times.
Things between Lara and Reed are definitely hot, and you can feel the chemistry and attraction radiating off of them in this book. When they finally do give in, things are extremely hot between them. Reed knows what he's doing and Lara is enjoying every single second of it. It was kind of funny to see Reed trying to control himself, the ice-pack? I was laughing out loud at this point in the book.
Both of these characters are strong willed, and great by themselves, but put them together, and it's amazing. Reed softens a lot in this book with the influence of Lara, and Lara starts to see herself how Reed and others see her. She needed to have a little more faith in Reed at times, but how their story ended was beautiful. I did feel as if the ending was rushed, but how things ended up for Reed and Lara was awesome. I will definitely be reading more from Rylie Roberts as this book was beautifully written and the story was strong!
If you are looking for a couple that is the total package then look no farther than Lara and Reed. These two people will give you intelligent conversations, banter that will have you laughing out loud, constant angst that only a couple who have hardly anything in common can bring and they will bring you love, with some hot passionate scenes. With this you also get a huge dose of two people finding a compromise in trust, personality, kindness and values and so much more. Lara is a very kind hearted woman who just wants to start her new job, live in peace with her best friend and just find happiness. She watches what she spends and tries to make what she has last and work for every aspect of her life. It would figure that on her first day of work at the new job, she would dress in her lucky shoes, business suit and fancy coat but nothing was going to stop her from going to work, except maybe falling in the middle of the street and almost being run over by Reed. Reed Prescott is a man who is guarded and jaded. He has made his mark in the business world and expects everyone can be bought. When he saw Lara laying on the sidewalk his first thoughts weren’t of her injuries, finding a way to convince her not file a lawsuit. It wasn’t until Reed spent some time with Lara to pacify her that he realizes there is more to this woman than he assumed, she has a heart, a compassion towards others and life and most of all she doesn’t blame him for the accident. Now that you can see the differences in these two characters you can only imagine what bumps in the road they are going to experience if they find their happy ever after. I really enjoyed the majority of the book. I will admit there were times Lara was just too sappy sweet for me and Reed was quickly becoming the nonredeemable butthole, how those two would ever make it was beyond me and I wasn’t even sure at times if I wanted them to be together. Yet just when I thought that, the author did a brilliant job at having Lara show me why Reed was worth the work and allowed Reed to show me that he was willing to change for Lara. The blending of the two happens before your eyes and you don’t even know it till it has already happened because this author knows how to engage your emotions into the story. This was a well written book, kept me entertained and engaged from page one till the end.

As I've stated before, I don't read many MF stories, however, the lovely and very talented Kindle Alexander recommended Rylie Roberts to us and I found myself intrigued by the blurb, so I agreed to review Chasing Happy. I'm very happy I did, too, since this is a great story especially if you consider this is Rylie Roberts' debut novel.
Lara Hunter is on her way to start her first day at her new job. She doesn't feel all that confident, but she's willing to do her best, despite it all. She lives fairly close to work, so she's walking there, but it's raining and she ends up falling in front of a passing car driven by none other than Reed Prescott.
The last thing billionaire Reed Prescott needs is more bad press on top of everything else that's happening in his life at the moment. Stress is killing him as he tries to make the best of his latest deal, but things aren't exactly working as they should for him, especially when a girl falls in front of his car as he's driving to his building. Last thing he expected was to find a beautiful woman hiding beneath her soggy exterior, but once his assistant takes care of Lara for him, that's exactly what he finds and he's captivated. Only Reed doesn't do relationships and Lara is not willing to be just a notch on his bedpost.
This story was so much fun to read and very sexy to boot! Lara has a best friend, Kade, that is just amazing and gay and also her roommate, and at first, she thinks Reed has to be gay, too, because he's so good looking and in her mind, he'd be perfect for her friend. And Reed plays along at first, because this allows him the chance to be close to Lara, when she probably wouldn't have been so open to him if she'd known he was actually after her and not interested in men. The story reads a bit like a romantic dramedy, with a heavy dose of sizzling hot love scenes. The chemistry between Lara and Reed is amazing and even if sometimes you have to suspend disbelief at how naive Lara can be and how unconscious of her own self-worth, I really loved it all.
I really hope that at some point, Ms. Roberts considers writing us Kade's story, and even if she doesn't, I'll certainly be looking forward to more stories by her.
I have to say, Chasing Happy is quite the debut novel for Rylie Roberts! I really enjoyed this story and the journey with the characters!
Lara is young and ambitious and about to start the first day at her dream job, she’s even got her lucky Jimmy Choo’s on! Trying to get to work though is a bit challenging in heels during a rainstorm. Distracted, she steps off the curb and is almost hit by a car. Lucky shoes ruined and some bumps and bruises, the man who hits her, and then rescues her, is more than what he seems.
Reed is a powerful man, a rich man and not always a nice man. After nearly running over the careless woman who stepped into the street without looking his initial motives are to avoid a lawsuit. He definitely goes over the top trying to make things right, new clothes, shoes and what not. He notices there is something special about this girl and soon his motives change to getting her into bed. Little does he know this woman is about to turn his self-centered world upside down.
I really enjoyed this story and the way the characters developed together. It wasn’t exactly what I expected from them, but it was a great journey. Lara doesn’t immediately fall at his feet, and I appreciated that. I mean let’s be honest, he’s kind of an ass sometimes and she sees that. Both Reed and Lara both had learning to do in this story. But once, they do get it together – oh I just loved their chemistry.
I absolutely loved the secondary characters as well in this story, they really are fantastic. And I definitely want to be friends with Kade, and would totally love to read his book (hint hint). They really made this a well-rounded story for me.
Chasing Happy really is a great title for this book, it fits it so well. While these characters can be frustrating at times, they are still loveable. They both have pasts to overcome to learn what it is to truly love and be loved. I really can’t wait to read more from Rylie Roberts!
