This story is for intermediate students who are interested in history. This biography is about Baden-Powell who was the founder of the boy scouts. This story talks about the facts of his life and what he did to build up the boy scouts. This book is filled with a lot of pictures which makes it an easy read.
Although this book does a great job of explaining Powell's life and times, it seems to paint the man as perfect who made no mistakes and was a idol to all. We need to remember that this is a man who thought Hitler's book was a perfect read and admired the man. I don't enjoy books that seem to miss reminding the reader that the focus also made mistakes and should be remembered as a real person, not a idol.
Robert Baden-Powell was a pretty interesting person. I started reading "Two Lives of a Hero" which is the very long "official" biography, but it was a little two long and detailed for me (I mean, really-- who cares what he was wearing in this place or that place?) So I picked up this short and sweet biography and just read the highlights. Maybe I'll revisit the longer book some day...when I have lots of extra time and nothing else to read...
