Enrapture by Rachel Van Dyken

Trace is everything.
My freaking world.
And I would do anything to keep her safe.
But, I can't protect her from every kind of evil..and I can no longer keep the past a secret...
We were left folders.
Each one filled with the sins of our pasts.
And Traces grandfather just asked us to read his.
There was no preparation.
And now I'm wondering if I should have let the love of my life read it at all, because some things can't be unsaid, some words stay with us forever.
I know, from this day forward, nothing will ever be the same.

The Initiation by Kristin Vayden

It wasn’t blood in…no out.
It was death the moment were initiated with the mob and a living hell from that moment on. I knew, because it was my hell. But I wanted…no I needed out.
I had watched it suck the life from my father till nothing was left but the ashes from betrayal, and I wanted more.
So I made a deal, one that got me shot. But the nurse made up for the injury—Daphne had always teased my dreams, out of reach but close enough to tease me with the fantasy of what if. But what if…was now my reality and there was no way I was giving it up.
So I called in a favor…to the Mafia.
Made a deal with the devil, to save my soul.
And if it works, I’ll die…so that I’ll have a chance at really living.

ICE by Elise Farber
One night of weakness five years ago turned out to be the biggest mistake of Laila’s life.
The sex with her coworker, and then commander, Ryker had been hot. But the ensuing strain of having to work with him, having to see him seduce and sleep with other women tore her heart from her chest and crushed it beneath his military-grade boot.
Now they’re on a mission together and she’s running command. Her damaged heart would like to make him pay, but her body isn’t so sure, especially when Ryker apologizes and tries to make things right between them.
Can Laila put aside the past, if it means another chance — a real one this time — with Ryker? Or will those old wounds never heal? And when their mission goes awry, will they even survive to have a shot at that future?

OVERALL RATING - 4 STARS

ENRAPTURE BY RACHEL VAN DYKEN

*5 Stars*

I have been reading through the Eagle Elite series by RVD for the first time, and have been following the reading order she has provided. When I got to this novella, I knew instantly that I was going to be hooked on this story. I've been quite curious about Trace's Grandma and Luca, and we got so many details in this book.

Man oh man did it pack a punch. I loved this story. It's probably one of my favourite novellas that I have ever read. It explored way more of the story about these two than I expected, and answered a lot of things as well. It really sheds some light on parts of the history in these mafia families that has been brought up in the other novels in the series.

For a novella it also left me quite emotional. It hurt. But it was also fun. I loved the way that RVD told the story as well. The format between the past and present was wonderful. Loved this one so much!

THE INITIATION BY KRISTIN VAYDEN

*3.5 Stars*

A great short mafia story. I like that it is loosely connected to RVD’s EE series. The characters in this were nice and it was an easy to read short story.

ICE BY ELISE FABER

*3 Stars*

This wasn't a bad little story, however I felt a bit like I was coming into a book I should have known more about. Not sure if its part of a series and thats why, it just felt a little out of place as I was reading. Interesting main characters and their job.

Enrapture by Rachel Van Dyken

If you are an Eagle Elite fan and can't wait for the next book, reading Enrapture in this book is worth it! Enrapture is told mostly in Joyce's (Trace's grandmother's) point of view, but we get to see inside of Nixon and Trace's head as well. We finally get the back story of Joyce, Frank, and Luca and learn more about the twins we were told about in Endure.

My heart broke for Joyce, Luca and Frank in this book. They all made tough decisions, and learned to live with them. But the love Joyce and Frank had was different than the all encompassing love we found that she had with Luca. Seeing how their story really plays into the Trace, Nixon, Chase story from previous books is interesting as well.

This is a definite must read and a reason to purchase Hurt. The Eagle Elite series is my favorite series EVER and getting any glimpses into the craziness that is part of these books is always a plus. I wanted to cry with Trace, and I was furious with Frank for how he let the information for Trace to find when he wasn't around. Seeing the whole gang together being themselves was refreshing, and nothing bad happened to them, which is always a plus!

Loved Enrapture!
The Initiation by Kristin Vayden

I really enjoyed this book and seeing a bit of a tie in to Endure by Rachel Van Dyken. In the initiation we meet Khan, Sofia, Daphne, and Jude.

Daphne has crushed on Khan for years since she met him through her brothers girlfriend Sofia. She never thought he'd give her the time of day so she went on with her life until Jude comes in whisking her away to help save him.

Throughout this book we learn Khan is the head of a family in the Russian mob and made some mistakes. We learn of his connection to Sergio and Andi as well. I loved how Khan was a tough guy but really just wanted to be happy and out of the craziness his life currently is.

Daphne and Khan are amazing together and it sucked that just when things started to get really good the story ended. I really hope to see more of these characters in the future as they are definitely interesting and the story was great!
Ice by Elise Faber

This is the first book of Elise Faber's that I've read and I will definitely be picking up the rest of the series when they release.

In ICE we meet Ryker and Laila, two super awesome KTS Spies on missions to help people in need. Ryker and Laila have a past, she was young, she fell hard, he ran. But now that they are working together again and a few years older, Ryker realizes his mistake but convincing Laila is much harder than he expected.

The missions their team goes on are intense, but the majority of this story focuses on them trying to stop a child sex slave/prostitution ring in San Francisco. In such a short amount of time so much happens and I was on pins and needles. When their mission goes belly up, and they are in a predicament they have to learn to work together to save themselves.

I really enjoyed the suspense in this book, but I really, really enjoyed the chemistry and banter between Laila and Ryker. I adored these two and hope to see more of them in new books by Elise Faber.

Enrapture by Rachel Van Dyken comes in right after Elude. Trace’s grandfather left a folder with sheets from her grandmother’s journal. Sheets that hold the true story about his past with her grandmother and his brother. About all the love and loss. About their sacrifices and redemptions. Their heartbreaking story that Trace’s grandmother wanted her to know and once she reads the words... there’s no going back. She can’t forget them. And Nixon is wondering if he should have let her read it at all.

Trace has the whole gang sitting around like it’s story time even though it’s so heart wrenching to hear. She gets her Family to help get her through the story and really, it’s so sad! The love between Trace’s grandma and Luca is so strong! Frank married her to safe her life... he never thought he’d be tearing her away from what she wanted most! Once you’re married into the mafia though... there’s no going back.
I felt so bad for her grandma while reading her journal entries. It really pulls at the heartstrings but I love how the ending went. I love how Frank made up for everything and the love that grew and shaped their relationship. I’m so happy that Trace got to understand everything that happened. And that all her friends were there for her when she needed them. And in typical Chase fashion... he gives his helpful advice!
“Don’t worry though,” Chase said, mouth full of chips. “Nixon would have probably fought back even with a bullet hole. He’s bad ass like that.” “Thanks, Chase,” Nixon said quickly. His voice held an edge of irritation. “I like to be helpful.” Chase winked.

Well worth reading!

I bought the Hurt anthology to read Enrapture a novella that reveals an affair and a marriage both focusing on two kinds of love to us through journal entries written by Grandma Alfero and passed to her granddaughter, Trace. I was reading the Eagle Elite series in the order suggested by the author and had already met Trace, Nixon, Chase, Mil, Tex, Mo, Phoenix, Bee, Grandma Joyce Alfero, Grandpa Frank Alfero, and Luca Nicolasi. As soon as it was evident that the story would be about Joyce's love for/affair with Luca, I was eager to read the story.
Rachel Van Dyken writes the story of a fierce desire and love for someone with whom you share small, impactful experiences and contrasts it with the love that grows when you open your heart to someone, commit to them through all, and experience the daily ups and downs that occur through life.
I love both of Joyce's love stories. The heat of desire, want, instant love that never burns out and the slow evolving, mutual commitment to build a life, giving of your soul to the one who is by your side through the worst of it all.

If for no other reason than to read Enrapture to look back at how a young woman had two loves and what she learned as a result of experiencing both in her life, choose to read the Hurt anthology. My advice: just start reading the Eagle Elite series from the beginning. By the time you read in order the books in RVD's mafia series, you'll be as excited about reading Enrapture as I was. Be prepared to laugh and cry.

This is a review of Enrapture by Rachel Van Dyken. This was a short little novella in the eagle elite world. The eagle elite is a series and this book fits a little over half way through the series. For a first time reader or someone who is not currently reading the eagle elite series this is not the best place to start but if you do read it, it is a great way to entice you to read the series. It is a larger series but oh so very good. All the books are very entwined and these two characters play an important piece of history. For those of you already reading this series I hope you are reading it in the order Rachel recommended because this was wow. I don't condone cheating and I generally steer clear of any books that even hint of cheating. I don't like what happened in this book but my heart hurts for Joyce & Luca. This is by no means a HEA book but I feel it really enhances the eagle elite series and the main books that we are reading. I'm having fun with all these little novellas in-between the books. This was a great read and the blurb made me a bit nervous but it wasn't as bad as my imagination took it. It was a sad read in my opinion but with a happy spin, I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to see how this all plays out.

𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲: Enrapture
𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Hurt Collection / Eagle Elite
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿: Rachel Van Dyken
𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: ☆☆☆☆☆ 5/5

Enrapture is part of the Hurt Collection and my review will be for this story only since I haven’t read the others. Enrapture is a must read, especially, if you love the Eagle Elite series. I recommend to read the novella “Enchant” before this one because you will understand everything in this novella better. Since it kind of picks up were the other one stopped. The story gives us more information from mostly Joyce POV about everything that happened with Frank and Luca. It was also a lot of fun to see the whole crew as well. Overall, I recommend reading this if you love the Eagle Elite series because it definitely sheds some light on stuff!

Hurt was a great read by Rachel Van Dyken, Kristin Vayden, and Elise Faber. This set consists of; Enrapture by Rachel Van Dyken, The Initiation by Kristin Vayden, and Ice by Elise Faber. Enrapture by Rachel Van Dyken is the story that talks about Trace's grandparents. It gives a good glimpse into their love. In The Initiation by Kristin Vayden is the beginning of Khan and Daphne's story. Khan was shot and it was Daphne that was there for him. Ice by Elise Faber made a huge mistake five years ago when she had sex with her coworker Ryker. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

This rating is only for the Rachel Van Dyken novella contained in the book.

I'm following the order on RvD's website and once again we're back in the twisted love story that was Joyce Alfero and Luca Nicolasi.

I don't know why Frank insists on them finding out about this. But the love between Joyce and Luca is so fragile it hurts that they only had those few times together.

I want to know about the people who are still affected by this. More so than even Trace and Nixon.

All I want to do is read more mafia.

I only read the Entrapture and The initiation.

Entrapture - First thing first, please someone tell me they also cried why reading this? Joyce and Luca story was breathtaking and so beautiful. Finally learning more about them and how deep they're love was such a beautiful thing to see.

The Initiation - Daphne and Kahn story was super sweet. And I loved the tie in with Sergio from the elite world.

I absolutely LOVED Enrapture. Keep in mind. This is a short story. So don't be getting all angry when you finish it in one sitting. It is not a novel, it is exactly what Rachel says it is, a short story....

In Enrapture, we get more of the back story of Joyce and Luca's love story. As we all know, Joyce and Luca are soul mates. They were destined to be together, but things didn't happen that way. Luca's brother, Frank had his hands in that. Frank knows that his wife is in love with this brother, but Frank did what he thought was best for the FAMILY... his mafia family. Luca knows every one's secrets. Luca had folders on everyone in the family. Secrets that nobody ever wanted revealed. Trace's grandmother kept a diary. A diary that is now in Trace's possession, but a few pages were missing. Pages that were in a folder that Trace now has the opportunity to read. Will she? Does she really want to know what happened between Luca and Joyce? Does she want to know what her grandfather's role was in keeping them apart? After all, Joyce and Frank were her grandparents. Did she want to see either one of them in a different light?

"Everyone has the capacity to make a bad choice. It's what you do after that bad choice is made that makes the man." ~ Nixon

Frank knows that his wife's heart belongs to another man. What Frank does is probably one the most unselfish things a man can do. Yes, we all were angry with Frank when he found out what he did to Luca and Joyce in Enchant. But he redeemed some respect from me after reading this story. Frank gave Joyce the best seven days she could ever imagine. Once broken and unable to love Frank the way she loved Luca, she was given two weeks. Fourteen days she would be Luca's.

"Joyce, this is our reality. This is what we do. The very same hands that make love to you choke the life out of another. There will never be a day when I won't miss you, when I won't think of you, dream of you, but this is the card we have been dealt, and we must handle it accordingly." ~ Luca

After those fourteen days come to an end, what will that mean for Luca and Joyce? How will this effect Joyce's relationship with Frank? Will Frank be able to forgive her actions while she was with Luca? Is their love strong enough?

"What Frank broke... Luca helped fix, and what Luca fixed... Frank nurtured." Joyce

If you have not read this story, I suggest you do. It will fill in some blanks after reading Enchant. It will show a side of Luca that we never got to see. A loving side. A side where all he wanted was a life with Joyce. But that decision was taken away from him. We also get a few questions answered that we were left with at the end of Elude, Sergio's book.

***I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own.***

Enraptured by Rachel van Dyken – This is a story of multi-generations. But the true story is of Joyce and Frank and Luca. The love between the three and the impact it has on the newer generations…Trace and Nixon in particular. It’s a story of hard choices that weren’t always the right choice and making the best of the situation that you have. I enjoyed that story and would love to read more about these characters. I hadn’t read anything by Ms. van Dyken before, so as of this moment, I’m unaware if there are more stories about the characters involved, but I’m hoping there are.

The Initiation by Kristin Vayden – Is a story of Khan and his love of his family and of his friend Daphne. He didn’t want the life for them that they’d been living so he decided to feed the feds the other families so he could get out without any repercussions to anyone but himself. This was a tense story. I think Khan is part revenant or cat or something. This is also the first story that I’d read of Ms. Vayden. I really like her writing style and can’t wait to read more by this author.

Ice by Elise Faber – This isn’t anything like her other series. This is all suspense in the here and now with no paranormal elements. And in this one, Ryker made a mistake and hurt Laila’s feelings years ago, and she’s a grudge holder. But he wants to make it right, only there’s this mission that’s coming in the way of that, but just might be the ticket to help him get through to her. This story is like 007 and such. For some strange reason I kept seeing Laila in white patent leather go-go boots, that’s how much it felt like the most famous secret agent of all time. I’ve read Ms. Faber’s stuff before and I always enjoyed her writing and her world building. This story, though short, is no different.

Overall feelings – I really enjoyed this book. It’s relatively short, especially for a short story collection. Each story was conclusive and gave enough insight to the world to tease into something more, yet at the same time, felt utterly complete and whole onto itself. I really enjoyed it and I would suggest for anyone else to buy it too. There are mature situations abounding in this collection from sex to violence to affairs of the mature heart. So this isn’t for those who are younger, but it’s not graphic in detail.

Hurt is three fantastic novellas written by three Amazing Authors. Each have their own unique storylines, making me want to read more from each author. All were about the sacrifices one makes for their loved ones.

The first one is Entrapture written by Rachel Van Dyken. If you are a fan of her work, you will love that it is a part of her Eagle Elite series. It tells the story of Traces grandparents. It connects many of the unknowns in their past, as well as gives a glimpse of what is happening. If you didn't already love these characters, you will absolutely love them after this amazing story. I laughed as well as cried while reading this story. True to form Rachel continues to be a genius with her writing abilities. I cannot wait for more!

The second story is Initiation by Kristen Vayden. It too is a mofia story and is connected to Rachel's Eagle Elite series through its characters. In this story you learn about Aaron family and their ties as a part of the Russian Mob. It is well written and kept me on my toes wanting to know what would happen next. I would definitely love to hear more about this family in the future!

The last novella in Hurt, is Ice written by Elise Faber. It is the first in a series about an private military organization called KTS. The storyline is intense and characters are full of chemistry. It is definitely a series worth reading! I am new to Elise Faber, but this will not be the last book I read of hers. She captivated my interest and did not let go.

This is a combination of three story written by three author. Encapture by Rachel Van Dyken. This is a follow-up story  from the Eagle Elite Group and letters written to Trace from her grandmother passing. The letters explains the relationship between Trace grandmother and grandfather (Joyce) and Frank) as well as acknowledging that Joyce was force to marry Frank instead of Luca, who she was in love with. It was sad, romantic and evil how Frank treated Luca when he was young. It had moments that broke my heart into a million pieces. Moments that had me in tears, moments that ripped me apart and I loved it...The second story Initiation by Kristin Vaydens. This is the first time reading this author book and her writing was amazing with a great storyline. This story is an introduction to the beginning of Khan's and Daphne relationship. Khan inherited the position from his father in the mafia organization which he decided to work undercover for the Feds. The story is very impressive and entertaining with great romantic scene. The author is able to weave stories together that instantly transport me into worlds of greed, crime, and betrayal. Overall, an amazing story worth reading...The third  story Ice by Elise Faber is another new author to me and I just didn't connect with the story nor understood the plot. I had a hard time getting into the book because the  characters had no realistic development and appears to be teens. Overall, the writing felt kind of detached...

I so enjoyed this story because we get the back story on Joyce, Luca and Frank. I also enjoyed seeing all the family again.

What happens when Trace gets a hold of THE black folder? Nixon gets a tad wound up ok maybe more than a tad and well the others are bringing in chips and dip for the show. I was a bit upset at how Frank just left things out and ran leaving Trace to deal with what she was learning about without him around. I did like hearing Frank and Joyce’s story. The love that Joyce had for both Luca and Frank was amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. I can now understand how someone can hold your heart and another consume your sole.

These diary entries had me in tears. Oh land what Frank does for Joyce and his brother. Truly shows the love he had for Joyce. Luca seemed to be a cold and heartless man but now I see why. Man Luca can love and he does it with his whole being. This just shows his heart was not cold as stone there is warmth in there.

This was a great addition to the Eagle Elite series it filled in some gaps and answered questions. Those letters really got me I had tears at times. I cannot wait for more of this series I’m telling you I cannot get enough of these families.

RIP MY HEART OUT RACHEL VAN DYKEN....JUST RIP IT OUT!!!!!!!! After reading about what happened between Frank, Luca and Joyce, I am not sure how to feel. You feel love for both men, in very different ways but im still not sure how I feel about Joyce. I think it just stems from me hating love triangles but I kind of hate that she got to experience such love after Luca...Luca never strayed from her, no wife, no gfs and it even said he felt like he was cheating if he had drinks with a woman so he didn't do it. He stayed so true to her. But Joyce, even though she loved Luca totally and wholly, she got to experience a wonderful love with Frank. I just think I felt so bad for Luca and it made me hate Joyce just a little bit. I don't know...I cant explain it well but I just felt such sorry for Luca.

I have read Rachel Van Dyken before so I was familiar with her work and the story line in Enrapture. It continued on with Trace reading about her grandmother's diary and how things became the way they were at the end of her life. It flowed well and was a quick read. I had no read either of the two other authors before so I was able to get a snippet of their works also. I was able to pick up both story lines with ease and both were enjoyable, had a good plot and I was able to get a sense of all of the characters that we woven into their tales. Overall it was a good read and I was glad that I bought it.

Ok, so I have a lot of catching up to do. A few pages into the first story, I felt like I was missing something. Turns out, I was. The first two stories are parts of existing series by each author. I put the first two aside until I catch up, which I'm definitely going to do, because the little bit I read of each was great! I moved on to Elise Faber's story, Ice, which was a standalone. I loved Laila and Ryker's story. I love a strong heroine and I love second chances. I just finished Phoenix Rising, so I'm loving Elise Faber too! Great story! Now to go and find Rachel and Kristin's books!

OH THE FEELS!!! Dang it,Rachel did it again, made me cry!But it was a bittersweet cry to watch the story of Luca and Joyce was sweet and heartbreaking however, in the end Frank and Joyce found love and I don't think they would have found that if she hadnt spent that time with Luca and realized what she was missing out on by being closed off and bitter.I loved it! Can't wait for Empire(and RIP).I can't get enough of this mafia world she created!
