This omnibus includes all three books in the best-selling Lost series. Lost in Us (Book 1)
Serena has learned to live with her past, locking her secrets and nightmares deep inside her. But when her boyfriend of six years abruptly leaves her, she's catapulted back into pain, nursing a broken heart. When indulging in mountains of chocolate doesn't work, Serena decides the best way to deal with her shattered heart is to indulge in something else. A rebound . . .
The night she swaps her usual Sprite for tequila, she meets James. The encounter is breathtaking.
Electrifying.
And best not repeated.
James is a successful entrepreneur in Silicon Valley. A man who has amassed a fortune by taking risks. A man who has shunned commitment completely, and still does. He's the exact opposite of Serena. But sometimes opposites attract. Sometimes they give in to burning passion. Sometimes opposites are perfect for each other.
James is everything her damaged soul could want. His kisses are intoxicating, his touch out of this world. He makes her forget. He grants her peace from her pain. But as they grow closer, Serena discovers she isn't the only one with a past. James carries the scars of a past much darker than hers. One that has left him damaged, hurt, and wary of love. A past that gives him the power to shatter her.
Now James and Serena must find a way to mend one another. Or risk losing each other forever.
Found in Us (Book 2)
Jessica Haydn wants to leave her past behind. Hurt by one too many heartbreaks, she vows not to fall in love again. Especially not with a man like Parker, whose electrifying pull and smile bruised her ego once before. But his sexy British accent makes her crave his touch, and his blue eyes strip Jessica of all her defenses.
Parker Blakesley has no place for love in his life. He learned the hard way not to trust. He built his business empire by avoiding distractions, and using sheer determination and control. But something about Jessica makes him question everything. Not only has she a body made for sin, but her laughter fills a void inside of him.
The desire igniting between them spirals into an unstoppable passion, and so much more. Soon, neither can fight their growing emotional connection. But can two scarred souls learn to trust again? And when a mistake threatens to tear them apart, will their love be strong enough?
Caught in Us (Book 3)
Dani has her future all planned out. She’s not the type to fall for a bad boy, no matter how panty-melting his grin is or how shamelessly he flirts. But something about Damon draws her in, awakening a desire she’s never felt. Slowly, she uncovers the secrets Damon hides: underneath his arrogance lies a tortured soul, his flirting smile masks despair.
Damon arrives in Dani’s life against his will. Carrying the scars of a dark past and facing an uncertain future, he knows he should stay away from her, but can’t. Her innocence consumes him, as does the desire to indulge in the passion igniting deep inside her.
An all-consuming bond blooms into a reckless love.
Lost In Us “I never believed Jess when she said that sometimes it’s worth being a bitch just because. Now I do. But I disagree with the last part. It’s not just because. Some people simply deserve it.”
“I wish there was a way I could let him know how alive he makes me feel. How he turns the blood in my veins to liquid fire. How it burns so bright I am afraid it will turn me to ashes any second now.”
Found In Us “There’s only one conclusion for you to reach: we might be onto something beautiful.”
“I want you to be my everything, Jessica,”
“I’ve never wanted to give a man everything before. Until now. I want to give him my heart, my soul, along with all of the things I never knew were mine to give away. I want the same from him too. I want it all.”
“There’s no weapon more effective than words. They lash deep wounds that can cripple in a second and heal excruciatingly slow, sometimes not at all. Because words can’t be unheard. Or forgotten.”
Caught In Us “Beatrix and Anthony Cohen used to love each other passionately… Somewhere along the years, their love burned to bitter ashes.”
“A word of advice. Start working on your personality, you have a lot of catching up to do. Your ass and boobs aren’t as good as you think.”
“I’m walking trouble. You should stay away from me. It’s catchy.”
“It’d be a shame to graduate high school with the good girl stamp on our foreheads. Every girl worth her salt must break some rules. The best rules are broken with bad boys.”
“The way to a man’s heart is through his nose. First take his breath away, then steal his heart.”
“That was a swoon worthy love declaration… If you haven’t told all of this to Dani, I will chase you with a gun.”
“You’d better prepare yourself to be surrounded by so much estrogen, you might grow boobs.”
My Review:
Layla Hagen has been a recent discovery for me – smacks head – I know! I found her work to be smokin’ hot, smartly written, moving, and entertaining. I am now a convert to her cult and hope to make my way through her entire listing. Ms. Hagen’s writing is emotional and compelling. While I am not a fan of angst, the way she writes - I didn’t mind it so much. I binge read the first two books at once and lapped them up like a dehydrated camel, all 546 pages, and like a thirsty camel, I wished for more.
Caught In Us was a fun read and far less angsty than the first two books. While there were still periods of conflict and heartbreak, the overall feel was a sweet love story that began in high school and renews itself during college. All three books could be read as a stand-alone, which I totally appreciate, although I also enjoyed additional glimpses of the characters from previous books in the subsequent installments. Layla Hagen’s writing is always entertaining, engaging, thoughtful, and delightfully steamy. And who doesn’t enjoy a good girl/bad boy story? Each book was sensual, addictive, and beguiling. I seem to have a hard time putting my kindle down when reading her work.
The Lost Series Book 1 Lost in Us 3.5 stars This is the story of Serena a 22 year old London born very focused very goal driven senior at Stanford and James a 28-year-old Stanford graduate who is now a Silicone Valley darling as a highly successful millionaire entrepreneur. Because this is the first book in a 3 book series it also introduces several characters who will make up the main characters in future stories. Serena as I stated was born in London to a lower middle-class family. After her 4 years older sister Kate dies of an overdose (for which she feels some inexplicable guilt) when Serena is about high school age, her parents decide she needs a change of scenery and ship her off to live with Serena’s mother’s childhood best friend’s family in San Francisco who have a daughter Jessica, Serena’s age. Until then, Serena had never even met Jessica’s family. Since then Serena has only seen her parents once a year when they fly to the U.S. to visit her. This entire scenario sort of blew my mind as implausible. You send your 14 year old daughter across the world to live with a family you yourself haven’t even seen in years as a solution to her depression over the death of her older sister? Also, later in the book when Serena interacts with Jessica’s parents she refers to them as Mr. and Mrs. which I found very odd when speaking to someone who has been your pseudo parent through your high school and college years. At any rate even though Jess and Serena are very opposite in personality, Jess being a blonde, busty extroverted party girl who does the minimum to get by in school (so how did she manage to get into a prestigious school like Stanford and graduate?) and Serena being a dark haired, athletically built, introverted, very serious student at the top of her class, they are the best of friends, closer than sisters. Then there’s James’s 17 year old sister Dani, (m.c. of the 3rd book) his English cousin Parker (Jess and Parker are the M.C.s of the 2nd book, Found in Us) and several trust fund baby friends of James. As the book opens Serena in the final semester of her senior year at Stanford has just been unceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend of six years Michael. She and Jess are sitting in a local college hangout pounding Tequila shots while Serena with Jess’s encouragement tries to work up the courage to go for a one time rebound hook up to help her get over Michael’s betrayal. Enter James the drop dead, panty melting gorgeous, self-confident, legendary young entrepreneur. I don’t know if you’d call it insta-love but Serena definitely experiences insta-lust and Michael seems equally smitten with her. Without giving away the entire story arc, their relationship heats up and evolves as they find they have things in common beyond physical chemistry as well as different strengths that help them round out each other’s personalities. Of course at about the 80% mark there’s that mandatory bump in the road they have to negotiate before they can achieve their happily ever after and of course they do.
Found in Us 3 stars As mentioned above this is Parker and Jessica’s love story. At the end of Lost in Us Jess has accepted a position at a small museum in London and has taken an apartment with Dani (James’s younger sister) who has moved there to attend college. Since Dani has a large trust fund and Jess isn’t making much money, Dani is covering the lion’s share of the rent for their nice apartment in a tony section of London. Dani had been accepted in to Oxford but it was rescinded because she allowed her grades to slip in her senior year of high school while she entered her rebellious stage. As Serena tells James (whom are now officially living together in S.F.) “Jess is a bad girl trying to be good and Dani is a good girl trying to be bad. So maybe it will all work out.” The irony that Serena born in London now lives in and considers San Francisco home and Jessica born in San Francisco now lives in and considers London home is hard to miss. Parker, James’s cousin (also introduced in the 1st book) has returned to London to take over running his step- brother’s struggling company that was founded by Parker’s father. At some point in the first book after a promising friendship, Jess and Parker have a falling out and it isn’t until this book that we discover what that falling out was about. I found that also an oddity of the first book considering Serena and Jess were so close, Jess never volunteered and Serena never pushed her to discover what happened between them to sour their friendship. We discover in this book that despite the fact that Jess is spontaneous and disorganized (now trying to be more responsible) and Parker is a control freak planner and completely organized, they have an irresistible chemistry and attraction to one another. So you could call this another opposites attract story. Parker is convinced he would be bad for Jess because they are such opposites. So despite his undeniable attraction to her he tries to keep their relationship in the friend zone. He changes his mind pretty quickly in this book and pursues Jess in earnest. Parker and Jess are both damaged people. Parker has serious trust issues after people in his life that should have been there for him betrayed him. Jess has self-esteem issues as her father verbally abused her and made her feel insufficient for most of her life. One of my problems with this story is supposedly Jess hid this side of her relationship with her father from Serena. But considering they literally grew up in the same house and they’re BFFs, how is that even plausible? Also, considering Jess’s father constantly held Serena up to Jess as the example of the kind of daughter he wished Jess was and the fact that Jess and Serena are polar opposites in personalities, how in the world did they ever become BFFs? Once Parker decides he wants to try a relationship with Jess, their relationship moves along at a rapid clip with plenty of steamy sex scenes. Of course again as in all contemporary romances there’s a bump in the road for the couple to overcome before they go on to H.E.A. My problem here is Jess discovers something that Parker has done that makes her so upset she walks out on him. But then the author has Jess waiting around for Parker to contact her and try to make up with Jess implying Parker dumped her and not vice versa? Not that Parker shouldn’t have to grovel to win Jess back but how did she get it in her head that he dumped her? My other issue with this book is Jess’s relationship with Dani. It seems other than trying to get Dani’s big brother James and cousin Parker from being overbearingly protective (controlling) of her she does nothing to help Dani find her way as Dani tries to become the party girl Jess had been. She acknowledges Dani is a good girl trying to be something she’s not, but never takes her under her wing to say, “learn from my mistakes” or anything to discourage her potentially risky behavior. Even though she and Dani are supposed to be roommates, once her relationship with Parker heats up she practically moves in with him with no concern for Dani. I didn’t expect the Jess character to babysit the now 18 year old Dani as she tries to spread her wings but exhibiting a little big sister gentle guidance and concern for her might have been nice. Good story but based on my stated disappointments with the story I could only give it 3 stars.
Caught in Us 3.5 stars As the author informs us before the first chapter, if you’re looking at a timeline this book begins a few months before James and Serena meet in Book 1. Dani is in the home stretch of her senior year of high school. She and her BFF Hazel are the class’s good girl/nerds. Neither has even been kissed. Both want what we’re told every high school senior girl wants, a lot of college acceptance letters, a date to the senior prom and to lose their V-card. Dani and Hazel have the first one covered but little hope for the next two. Enter our book’s hero Damon, the classic handsome bad boy who is every girl’s bad boy dream. We spend the first 21 chapters of the book reliving Dani’s final year of high school before we get caught up to where the second book left off. Dani loves Damon, Damon loves Dani so of course Dani’s never present in her life parents suddenly decide to become involved by expressing their disapproval of Damon. Whom in fairness to them does cause Dani to do things she’d never done before like skip a class. Young love and teenage angst and all that are fine but my favorite part of this story is the couple of times when Dani quite eloquently and effectively blasts her parents for how disinterested and uninvolved they’ve been in her life. Damon’s father conspires with Dani’s parents to get Damon shipped off to a boarding school in Canada to finish off his final year of high school. Dani discovers her parent’s duplicity and now we know what caused her to go off the rails and try to be the bad girl we saw in the first two books. We finally get to the present and Dani has returned to California from England and enrolled at Stanford where she’s rooming with her BFF Hazel. On her very first day on campus she runs into Damon, whom she hasn’t seen in sometime. And the last time she’d seen him they left on less than good terms. The reason Dani returned home was because her father had a serious heart attack and she didn’t want the last words they shared to be the mean ones she said before she left for England. Apparently the heart attack has caused her parents to implement major life changes. They’re working on their marriage and also at being the parents to Dani she deserves. So now Dani has her man, her education and her parents and she can live H.E.A. right? No, because the author throws in a little suspense and danger to keep us on the edge of our seat and the story going just a tad longer. Once Dani with Damon’s help has gotten past the danger we get a final H.E.A. chapter in present time. Then we get a really sweet epilogue a few years into the future because after all when their story ends Dani and Damon are still only eighteen year old college freshman. In the epilogue we not only see into Dani and Damon’s lives a few years after college graduation, but we also get a look into the lives of our other two couples James and Serena from book one and Parker and Jessica from book two and even Dani’s BFF Hazel and Chase.
All in all I’d give this series 3.5 stars. I wouldn’t call the series brilliant because there were two many plot lines that for me stretched the limits of believability, but I enjoyed the characters and the stories were entertaining.
The Lost Series, by Layla Hagen, is comprised of Lost in Us, Found in Us, and Caught in Us. Read on for my review of the entire series!
Lost in Us is the story of Serena and James. Serena is an intelligent woman with a plan and a tight hold on the reins of her life. James is a brilliant and wealthy entrepreneur playboy who sets his eyes on Serena.
Serena has known for some time what she would do with her life, While Serena struggles to hold tightly to the path she has set for herself, but when her boyfriend of 6 years leaves her (and her plans) in the dust, James tempts her with both his body and his wild ways.
“It’s not the behavior itself that scares me. The fact that I chose to act this way scares me. I wanted to be reckless. And as I look into his eyes, and feel his hot breath on my lips, every inch of my body tells me that I don’t want to stop being reckless.”
And THIS. Right here. This is what I loved about Lost in Us. James helps Serena discover how to let go and feel, and Serena pushes James to allow himself to really hold on to something. And together, they heal old wounds and forge new paths. In Found in Us, Serena’s best friend and roommate Jessica finds herself repeatedly thrust into social situations with James’ cousin, Parker, to whom she is undeniably attracted. However, Parker has already turned her down once, and Jessica has trust issues with men, so her defenses are up, despite the advances Parker has begun making.
“I’d learned long ago not to trust men, and most of all, not to hope they’d care.”
Determined to revise her party girl image and prove to everyone, herself included, that she can make it on her own, Jess bristles against Parker’s dominant personality, which only makes Parker want to claim her more. I loved that the theme of salvation and self-realization was continued from the first installment in the series, and, in particular, I was impressed by the way Hagen incorporated London’s geography (old city and new city) and the London Eye into the developing relationship between Jessica and Parker.
“When we are apart, we are on our best behavior, fitting in. But when we are together, we carve our own bubble of freedom, in which nothing can touch us—where we can let loose.”
What I did NOT love, and found incredibly odd given the efficacy and proficiency of the author’s writing in the first book, was the love scenes. Don’t get me wrong—they’re definitely steamy. But they’re also oftentimes very awkward. My first issue is the vocabulary. In the same scene, we see references to “tingles all the way down there”, followed by mention of the heroine’s “pulsating core”, “clit” and “nub”. “Nub” especially bothered me. I don’t know a single woman who refers to her clitoris as her “nub”. Especially if she also refers to her pelvic area as “down there”. On the male side of the scene, Parker has an “erect member”. This particular instance made me stop reading and think, “Hmm. The author needed another word for penis.”
With the third installment, Caught in Us, Hagen returned to the quality of writing seen in the first book, Lost in Us, and I was once again captured by the story. In fact, this may have been my favorite of all three. Caught in Us, begins during the senior year of high school for James’s little sister, Dani. A self-proclaimed nerd who has been granted early acceptance to Oxford, contingent on upkeep of her grades, Dani is also lonely and inexperienced. Her parents barely pay attention to her, she’s never been kissed, and she has no date to the prom. Overall, things look pretty bleak, and Dani isn’t quite sure how to turn them around. Until Damon walks into her English class—and her life.
On the surface, Damon is a bad-boy who doesn’t care about anyone or anything. But Dani sees beyond that from the beginning, and she and Damon begin a beautiful relationship that also causes a downward spiral in Dani’s good girl image. I loved everything about Damon from the moment he stepped into the story. He is the whole package—depth, sweetness, danger—and he treasures Dani, which I think is something most women want to feel. And to hear the words he speaks to her? Now that is panty-melting in its own special way.
“I’m not interested in being special to everyone. I want to be special to someone. That’d be enough for me.”
Although their journey is by no means an easy one, and it is definitely rife with pain and sorrow, the end product? Well, it’s just about the most amazing thing a person can ask for.
“A liberating sensation spreads inside me, dissolving the pain I kept hidden, leaving place for hope, bliss, and the conviction that together we will bloom into something beautiful.”
My overall recommendation? Buy it, read it—you’ll love it!

I’m so in love with Layla work seriously I’m never disappointed!! I love all three books read it all in a week. I love how teach characters complement one another is like they were all meant to be together. The loyalty, love, and friendship is so beautiful. Also I hope Layla can create a book on Chase and Hazel I would sooooooo love that!!
I definitely recommend this series five stars indeed!!!
The first book and the third book in this series are by far the best! The second book is a little slow not much action, but a great series! I recommend it!
I saw someone else do this & I like it I really wanted to share this quote.
Found in us (book 2) Parker: “If I had to make a list of the hottest things a woman can do, cooking wouldn’t make that list. But watching Jessica near the stove is a turn on.“
I've read two books in this series and loved them both :o)
Found in Us: From an enlightening way to look at dresses to an arousing game at the Royal Opera House in London, this novela is full of quirky and seductive scenes.
It’s nicely written in a casual style that turns intensely hot when addressing intimate moments, and deeply touching in sensitive matters.
The steamy times are extremely entertaining and go from original to hot and hotter. I thought Parker was hiding a couple of secrets and that’s why he had poor Jessica confused about his attitude towards her. And my, good secrets! And hers too ;o)
After all, he seems to be the perfect gentleman but he teases her or chastises her for being irresponsible. However, Jessica also hides a past that renders her cold and aloof when prodded. That made me very curious about both of them as characters. In addition, I kept wondering if that web of secrets would entreat them to each other or would become an insurmountable obstacle.
Another thing that I liked about Jessica is that she’s a wild creature, but she’s trying so hard to overcome her party days and make a life on her own. She studied art and now works in a museum in London, two positive points in my mind. She’s intent on proving herself to her family, she’s a good friend. I like her on all accounts, excerpt that she smokes. I know, I’m a bit of a snob, I just can’t tolerate that awful smell ;o)
Anyway, I loved her sense of humour, and Parker does too. That’s one of the reasons he’s so attracted to her, her shiny disposition. I understand that craving for light and stimulation very well.
Jessica is sharing a flat with Dani, a young girl who’s tasting the forbidden side of teenager freedom. Her family is concerned for her as she had some trouble in the US, and I felt that this situation was casting a shadow of threat over the plot and it would eventually mean a turning point for our cute couple’s relationship. Jessica’s fear of deep feelings is another thing that makes her so real and human. You can have fun and get hurt, but how more devastating is it when you truly care for someone?
I was surprised by how beautifully romantic Found in Us turns out to be. The emotional connection between Jessica and Parker is deep, meaningful, rooted in their fears and needs and how to fight the former to fulfill the latter. All their past mistakes come forward to test their resolve, all their differences resurface to challenge their belief that they ultimately fit each other.
Found in UIs is a beautiful romance full of fun, sexiness and a great ending that rounds up what happened to the characters in Lost in Us and sets the mood for the next couple in Caught in Us. Wonderful series!
---
Caught in Us: First love always feels perfect. That's what I got from reading this beautifully written romance. It's sweet, endearing, also funny and definitely sexy. The heartfelt words painted the story in a fresh, slow-burning arc that completely enthralled me.
At first, the characters seem to collide against each other, but then they are drawn to each other's qualities. They heal and inspire. Dani is a warm, lonely, smart girl whose gentle smile is exactly what calms the poisonous anger that boils inside Damon. I really liked their conversations where they learn about their mutual strengths and weaknesses. The romance that blossoms between them is just so pretty, yet also extremely sensual.
I loved how things escalated becoming reckless and daringly romantic. Both characters evolve in transcending ways because of their time together. I relished those changes, the way they love each other, the unfair and painful wreck their relationship ends up being. Both the drama and the romance was engaging and poignant.
I enjoyed the second chance at love as much as the gentle, arousing passion. With a final part that brings about warmth, smiles, sighs, tension, and contentment in equal doses, I can only conclude that Caught in Us is a beautiful, sweet, and refreshing addition to a series that never disappoints.
It was great to reacquaint myself with the characters from the previous two books, and I'd love to read Hazel's story too. I was even sorry for the bad guy who also happens to have a reason for his torn, black heart. Besides the whole story, I'll take with me one particular visit to a chocolate factory that... OMG! I wish I could reproduce it myself ;-)
Favourite quote: There is an insatiable craving inside of me for him. It consumes me permanently, but roars louder and more demanding when he's nearby.
Book 1. I still need to read. Book 2. This book tells the story of Jessica and Parker, two people who think they are too damaged to deserve love. Parker had previously defended Jessica in a bar incident, which resulted in her having a broken leg. During her healing, Parker helped care for her and they grew close, but never gave in to the sexual desire they felt. Parker returned to London to save his family's company, and Jessica lands her after-college dream job working for a museum. Through a little plotting by Jessica's roommate, Dani, they are thrown back together and the sexual tension resurfaces. The rest of the book shows them breaking down each other's defenses to allow the other in to their hearts. What I like most about the book is how it captures the feeling of being in your mid-twenties and struggling with leaving the party life of college behind and becoming a responsible adult. I think many who attended university will relate to that struggle. In relationships, it's also a tumultuous time, when you meet someone and you want to be engulfed by them. Falling in love in your twenties is fast, sexually fueled, and confusing. The author captures this quite well in both Jessica and Parker. The conflicts in the book are mostly internal, with a minor incident at the end that gives a little more insight to everything Parker is trying to conceal. It was really nice that it was not a book where the couple breaks up and gets back together constantly, because while that does happen in real life, it doesn't happen to every relationship. It's possible to stay together and move past your issues without breaking up after every fight. I didn't have a hard time getting through the book, it was a relatively quick and easy read. The sex scenes were lively and nicely detailed. The ability to relate to the characters keeps you going through the story to see that they have a chance at happily ever after. If you are looking for something that isn't too complicated or overwrought with conflict, this is the book for you. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It's not necessary to read Lost in Us to read this one. Book 3. I really enjoyed this story. It took me back to my highschool years, falling in love. The author really captures the feelings of first love and you will find yourself feeling the emotions right along with the characters. I love Dani and Damon's story. Once you start reading, you won't want to stop. Dani has her heart set on heading to Oxford to escape her family after high school. She doesn't plan on falling for the new guy. Damon seems arrogant at first, but when you learn his story, you realize he's got a heart of gold. You'll be cheering for the couple to survive. There is some drama to the story, but it was also full of fun and laughter. I don't want to give anything away with spoilers. The story flows well. The dialog all feels natural. The characters are compelling and easy to relate to. I highly recommend reading this author. If you haven't read the other books in the series, you don't need to. This story stands alone quite well. It is nice to see the characters from the previous novels appear, but because of when this takes place, you could read this book first. I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
I am completely in love with this series! It is definitely among my all time favorites. I really wish I could read it again for the first time and feel all those amazing feeling while reading it. Each book can be read as a standalone.
LOST IN US Serena tries to forget her ex boyfriend and nurse the broken heart. She decides to live a little and on a night out she meets James. Whoa, can we talk about sizzling hot chemistry? Serena and James together are absolutely explosively hot. But Serena was burnt in the past and she is having a hard time stepping out of her comfort bubble. James has its own demons too. But when they are together the outside world doesn't exist. I am in love with James. He is so romantic *sigh* I strongly recommend this book. It shows we can overcome our fear with the power of love.
FOUND IN US Jessica and Parker's story is absolutely amazing. Jessica's life is chaotic, as much as she tries to live calm and normal life but her life is far away from normal. She is completely different than Parker. He likes to have control in his life but when he is with her his control is slipping through his fingers. In the past Parker bruised Jessica's ego and she can't let go of this. But then again she can't forget him either. And nor can Parker forget her. As much as her chaotic life is messing with his normally, it's just impossible for them to stay away from each other. The chemistry and their connection is so strong. I was able to feel it. Their story is so sweet with funny moments. And of course there were steamy scenes. A perfect combination.
CAUGHT IN US Ahhh, this book is my favorite in the series. I fell in love with this story. I know it sounds typical bad boy/good girl book. But it is so much more. Damon isn't your typical bad boy. He has that 'bad boy persona' but he is actually nice. And Dani isn't 'annoying goody two shoes' she is actually among my all time favorite female characters. Her home situation broke my heart. Also, Damon's wasn't easy one either. I love how their relationship first started on friendship. And absolutely love the progress of their relation ship. From friendship to sweet high school love to mature real love. Their story isn't easy. There were times when I was yelling at both of them. But at the and I hugged my kindle. I was emotionally exhausted (in a good way), because this book was really an amazing journey.
I strongly recommend this series. Ms. Hagen brings us sweet romance but at the same time it's real and a lot of people can see themselves in those stories. Each character is different with flaws, which make them real but they are also so lovable that you just can't help and fall in love with them all. Can't wait for more from the amazing Layla Hagen.
After reading the synopsis for the series I was pretty excited about it. This is the first time reading a book by this author. So I dove right in.
First off... I don't know why the Lost .05 was not included in this box set. Luckily I had it. But I only realized there was even a short novella in the first place by looking the box set up on goodreads. I like to read books in order. And I just hated that I read Lost In Us first.
So going into Lost In Us...
Hmmm...
I'll be honest... I was 50/50 about it. I just wasn't that into the main characters. The characters just never grabbed me and the story line didn't either. This wasn't a bad read... I felt like it was missing something. Like it needed a little more drama. I don't know... I just wasn't as into this book as I felt I should have been.
James with his commitment phobia... All of a sudden turns it around and is willing to commit to Serena. Just was unbelievable to me. His jealously issue was never a problem for Serena. And I hated how he was always asking Serena to do all these wild things. I know Serena would have her doubts about it... But, she would do it anyway. I just hated it. Because I felt she was just going through the motions.
Serena... She had a back bone and does what she says when it comes to James. Which I liked about her. But...She just got out of a six year relationship. She was just so ready to jump into a relationship with James. And then the I Love you's came out. I had to do a double take on that one. Because they barely were with each other!
I could not stand Jess (the best friend) in this book. She really got on my nerves. They way she acted about the incident at the club. Was pretty unbelievable. Then... How she was always setting her friend up with James even though she knew friend would not be happy about it... Was so irritating. Once ok... But twice... No.
James needed to do the leg work to get Serena back... Not rely on the best friend to help out!
What I also didn't care about was how she never told her friend anything about always setting her up with James behind her back. She should have been more loyal to her and not James.
Overall this book was ok... It wasn't bad... But it also wasn't great either.
Book 2
I was not feeling Jess at all. I just couldn't get into her story.
Book 3
Dani story was ok... but again... I wasn't feeling it.
This is a very enjoyable series. You get hooked into the characters and their lives. Each book can be read as a standalone.
In Lost in Us, we have James and Serena. These two characters have each suffered a heartbreaking loss. When they first meet, the chemistry is hot. They can’t seem to get enough of each other but their relationship is a roller coaster ride filled with so many ups and downs. Will James and Serena realize that they need each other or will it all go up in a puff of smoke? This book is one angsty read. James and Serena were very head-strong characters, at least to me. But as the story progresses, we are able to see the change in them and how it affects their relationship. Theirs was a turbulent journey but the end of the story, it was worth it.
In Found in Us, the story focus on Jess and Parker. They have tried to squash their feelings towards each other and that can only last so long. When they finally give in, it is explosive. However, their baggages and pasts might be too much to overcome. Will they realize that they are one in the same and perfect for each other? This book was filled with sweetness and sexiness. We were able to see the growth in Parker and Jess throughout the book. I enjoyed seeing how love with the right person can conquer anything.
In Caught in Us, the story focuses on James’s little sister Dani. Now this book runs concurrently with the first two books as it gives us the full extent of Dani and Damon’s relationship. Dani and Damon are complete opposites- the good girl and the bad boy. But these two were so perfect for each other. I loved how Layla showed us the progression of their relationship. She was able to show us how Dani and Damon grew individually and how they fought for each other. To me, that was the primary focus of their story and I truly enjoyed that. This was my favorite of the whole series.
Overall, a good entertaining series that keep you interested until the end.
I haven't read all the books in the series yet but have read Caught In Us and have the other two on my TBR list. Here is my review for Caught In Us.
Caught In Us looks like a story about a rich good girl from the wealthy part of town being attracted to a bad boy from the wrong side of town. But their lives are not what they appear to be. Dani is from a very wealthy family but her parents basically ignore her. Damon was raised by his single mother and they bearly scraped by. When she died Damon was sent to live with his wealthy father who he had never met. Dani and Damon met in high school where they didn't like each other much and Dani told Damon that he was a jerk for treating people so badly. Both fathers told them to stay away from each other but, like most teenagers, that made them want to be together even more.
This is quite an emotional story and made me feel sad for Dani because of her home life. Dani and her best friend, Hazel, were funny when they thought of themselves as nerds that guys don't notice. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Damon when he lost his mother and had to move in with his father who he hated. I liked the way this story spanned over many years letting us follow the lives of the two main characters as they matured but never stopped loving each other. Even though I liked this story I did find the description of how Dani felt EVERY time she saw Damon irritating.
Please note I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
If the other two books are as good as this one, I know the series is great.
This is a series not to be missed!! My favorite of the three is Caught in Us...Dani and Damon....OMG!!...I mean seriously? They are completely adorable and totally connect on a level that just melts your heart and tugs its strings. Dani is the light to Damon's dark, and together, it's totally HOT in a super-sweet and swoon-worthy way. The adventures they go on are both shocking and show that sometimes being bad feels sooo good. With Chocolate and Motorcycle rides with Damon, Dani is living the ultimate woman's wet dream...*giggles* And it's all the little things that add up to make this story one I won't forget anytime soon and will definitely keep as a go-to when I need a pick-me-up! Even the supporting characters provide so much entertainment and side story to this love story. Hazel is Dani’s BFF and she is just epically awesome and awkward, it’s adorable and makes me want to know more about her. (Hint, hint, Layla if you’re reading this…hehehe)
“God, I think I am in love with chocolate,” Hazel announces. “I think Facebook should have the option to put as a status, In a relationship with chocolate, and it’s not complicated at all.”
High School was the typical dramatic start, College life is crazy good, and the epilogue is definitely epic! Absolutely beyond a doubt recommend this book to anyone looking for a fresh and humorous romantic read.
book 1; Lost in in Us; this is where James and Serena meet on a night out and you won't be disappointed in everything in this story. There is a lot of yo yo emotions between to two of them but they work so hard at getting it right you can't help but love them, you are gripped by their story and with the other characters it just gets better and better. book 2; Found in Us ; this is where we get to see how Jessica is now she has finally got to London and what did happen between her and Parker. Jessica grew up knowing she would never be good enough for her dad so she rebelled but going to London was her new start. Parker knew he had to try and stay away from Jess the feelings she stirred in him he didn't want to feel. Absolutely loved this story can't wait to see if we get to know more about Dani and her tattoo man....... book 3; Caught in Us ; i was given this for my honest review, this is Dani's story and it truly gives you a hopeful view, she really has overcome how her parents made her feel and her outlook is positive. Damon is the bad boy through his own masking and between them they help each other through things. Even with their time apart they have held their feelings for each other deep and you fall in love with them, there is fun and humour in this as well as a few heart stopping moments but most of all a fantastic read
Lost in Us: I love the connection between James and Serena , they went through a lot but the love they shared is worth the read! James has some growing and Serena is willing to help him grow. They make a great couple and I'll honest I wasn't a fan of this story to start but as I kept read the more I just loved reading this story.
Found in Us: I loved reading about Parker & Jessica's story. They were first introduced in Lost in Us, I'm so glad Layla continued their story in this book. I just love Parker. Jessica is perfect for him as much as he's perfect for her. They have a lot of obstacles his past her future. Well worth the read, I enjoyed this more then the first book.
Caught in Us: Damon & Dani's story. In the first two stories Dani has a part that makes you hoping that they do her story. Dani the young sister of James. While in high school she falls for the bad boy Damon... he's funny and most of all good to her. Every one thinks Damon is trouble, including Damon himself. Dani and Damon's story is a true love at first sight book. I love the sexy story between these two characters.
I think the story lines got better as the series went on. Caught in Us was my absolute favorite! Layla did such a wonderful job with this series and as she went on they just got better. I give this series a 4.5
I was so surprised that this great book was a debut novel by a new author. Like um, really? Seriously?
Serena carries a secret guilt that she did not do enough to save her sister's life who was a drug addict. James has his own secrets. Serena is heartbroken over breaking up with her last boyfriend. James does not want a commitment. But when the two collide, sparks fly. She struggles to trust him, not to give her heart away while letting herself be swept by a very handsome James. James sweeps her off her feet without realizing that this time, he can't stay away from her. That she is different. That she will change him.
Watching them heal each other and fall in love was written beautifully. It made me immediately jump into the second book because it got me that hooked in. This author should definitely be on your radar if you're looking for good books. And what's more, if you're looking for a great series, start with this.
At the time of reading this, I discovered that the third book is now available to read. Guess what I'm doing? Yes, I am buying it immediately and jumping into it feet first! It's just as great as the first two. But lucky you, you can get all of them in a box set. That's a sweet deal and well worth the price! Be aware that each book is about a different couple, but in the same circle and it all flows together beautifully.
I am compiling my three separate reviews into one for the box set. I love a box set.
Lost in Us- Serena is looking for a rebound fling when her friend Jess takes her out to the club and they are drinking tequila. James is drawn to Serena inviting her out the next day. James is bad boy who has been around, but made good in Silicon Valley with his own start up companies. Neither is looking for love. I loved the surprises James plans for Serena because he really listened to her. Love the secondary characters- Dani, Jess, & Parker.
Found In Us- Jessica moves to London after getting her dream job out of college. She is trying to be a good girl and avoid men. She crosses paths with Parker again and he is just too tempting to resist. Parker is a bad boy with a few skeletons in his closet. Steamy hot story worth the read.
Caught in Us- Next book in this series about Dani, James' younger sister from the other books in this series. She meet Damon in high school he is the ultimate bad boy but they find a connection between each other and it is sweet and beautiful. Unforeseen circumstances tear them apart but a year apart even with a dark cloud over them they try to find a way back to each other. Just Fantastic. Dani might be my favorite character.
I love this series! It is so great that it is now available in a box set; I got my books individually.
Lost in Us is Book 1 but the last book that I read in this series. It is about Serena and James.
Found in Us is Book 2 and the first one that I read in this series. This is my favorite in the series! It is about Jessica and Parker. I just love those two! They are really great together.
Caught in Us is Book 3 and the second one that I read in this series. This is about Dani and Damon. I love Dani! It was really great to get to know her more and find out about Damon's background.
I highly recommend this series! Layla Hagen is such a great writer. She really pulls you into each story. I give this box set 4 1/2 stars.
I absolutely LOVED these three books!! This series was amazing. It will put you through an emotional rollercoaster from angst to laughter to tears!! The chemistry between all of the characters in all 3 books is off the charts! I definitely recommend reading this series!
I love having a complete set! Finally we get all three Layla's books together in one place for one sweet mental escape. Come meet Dani and Damon and Jessica and Parker in these reads. Layla's plot development, character building and moments laced with humor are a sure recipe for a good read.
3 books. 3 extremely beautiful stories.. Smart, powerful men/women that love with strength enough for both parties involved. Bring together the wonderful world of family, business, friendships and oh yes... Chocolate... great series I recommend as a 18+ read
