Klaus
I just want to be loved. Is that so much to ask? Apparently it is, especially when you’re an incubus, which means people only want you for one thing. Yes, that thing.

After an endless string of terrible dates, I keep bumping into a certain werewolf wrestler… a very handsome werewolf wrestler who turns out to be sweet and shy and everything I could ever possibly want in a man. And he actually likes me back.

He’s perfect.

However, he’s so perfect that he’s determined to prove he wants me for more than just… you know. Which means he wants to court me. Real dates with hand-holding and goodnight kisses and, to my horror, no sleepovers.

An incubus can only go so long without…

Brian
When I briefly met Klaus at that meet and greet all those months ago, I was too flustered to really take him in. But after, uh, bumping into him again at a bar one night, I can’t stop thinking about him.

Our first few encounters end up being pretty… hot and heavy. So I put a ‘no intimacy’ rule in place while we start dating properly and get to know each other. It’s almost unbearable, and we’re not great at sticking to it, but I want to prove to Klaus that I want him for him.

Except I’m a werewolf. And he’s an incubus. Restraining ourselves only works for so long until certain biological impulses take over.

Then restraint is no longer possible.

Lily. Never. Misses. I’m obsessed with Brian and his anxious disaster ways. He was just so precious. Klaus was bubbly and loquacious, seemingly Brian’s opposite. They were both so devoted to each other and the story had all the cozy feel good vibes.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: sex with someone other than date during date, violence (fight club), blood, mentions of emotionally unavailable parents, panic symptoms, mentions of crime

Omg, I really wish I had enjoyed this book more, but everything felt so simple. It was nice, but nothing particularly exciting happened. Honestly, it was kind of boring.

The first 20% was unbearable. So many unnecessary scenes, endless internal monologues that dragged out moments that could have been handled in far fewer pages. And the goat! Oh my God, what an annoying character! Why did I have to read so much about that goat? So many of those scenes could easily have been cut.

Anyway, I survived the first 20%. But the couple didn't really do much for me either. This book has a much cozier, sweeter, lighter vibe, with practically no drama. I understand that the series is meant to be lighthearted, but even so, the characters are so laid-back and things are so uneventful that I found myself getting bored and skipping quite a few pages.

On the other hand, I absolutely loved seeing all the other characters again! Vince and Crossbody, Dan and Rafe, my favorite couples. It was so nice to get a little more of them.

Now I'm really looking forward to Nat and the Beast's book. I have a feeling it's going to be really good!

Brian is the quiet but beloved B-Were in our favourite monster wrestling establishment, and he’s never quite connected with anyone and felt like he can truly be himself with them. Klaus is an incubus that works at a motel (which our friends from the previous book loved to frequent), and feels that men only want him for hookups, but never romance. Now the way Brian and Klaus’s relationship kicks off is very … unconventional. Maybe it involves a glory hole. 👀 But these two are perfect for each other ❤️

This book had:
-incubus x werewolf pnr romance
-fun biology that comes with that 👀
-sweet and spicy romance
-too many locker room encounters 😂
-the funny and lighthearted tone we love about this series
-possessive behaviour

This book was fun, and I was soooo excited to read it. Lily Mayne is one of my favourite authors ever, and I’ve never not liked a book she’s written.

The vibes of this one compared to others in the series were a little different, and this book wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Goliaths itself wasn’t a big part of the story, and the other Golaiths characters felt more like cameos rather than important side characters in this one. I found myself kind of missing them! But there were still some moments with them that made me giggle ❤️

This book also lacks any sort of B-plot or forbidden aspect in the relationship, making the driving force of the book simply the romance between Brian and Klaus. Though this meant I didn’t really get as into it as previous book, they still had a lot of adorable moments and sticky situations that made me enjoy it. It’s still Golaiths, okay?

Klaus ended up being a lot less unhinged than I thought he’d be! Don’t get me wrong, he’s funny! But the vibe of the romance ended up being a lot sweeter and more tender. I think it suited Brian, though. I loved him. The undiagnosed autism rep was well done with him!

In this book we also get introduced to Nat, Klaus’s best friend. I’m very curious to read his book next! It seems like it will be a little more high-tension and involved with the Goliath team 😍

Anyways, yay for this series! It’s so much fun and genuinely one of the most unique and memorable funny series I’ve read.

THE GOLIATHS OF WRESTLING ARE BACK, AND I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY!

Seriously, this series is SUCH a good time, and Double Shot was absolutely no exception. I didn’t realize how much I’d missed Lily Mayne’s writing until I was back with these ridiculous monsters, falling in love with yet another couple.

AND BRIAN AND KLAUS?!
OH MY HEART.

We have Brian, our shy, anxious werewolf wrestler who is basically the sweetest, most adorable male imaginable, but who also happens to have a beastly, ridiculously HOT side.

And then there’s Klaus, our precious incubus who desperately wants to be loved. Not for his looks. Not for what he can offer someone physically. He just wants someone to look at him and love him for WHO HE IS.

And honestly? THAT HIT HOME.

Because I think anyone who’s ever been single and desperately wanted to find their person can understand that ache. Wanting someone who chooses you, understands you, and genuinely wants to build something with you.

AND BRIAN IS LITERALLY MY DREAM MALE.

The shyness. The sweetness. The way he wanted to court Klaus properly and prove that he wasn’t interested in just one wild night?!

SIR, WHERE DO I FIND ONE OF YOU?!

What absolutely melted me was how perfectly these two understood each other. They both had their insecurities, but instead of making each other feel inadequate, they constantly reassured one another. They paid attention, anticipated each other’s needs, and made the other feel wanted in exactly the way they’d always dreamed of.

IT WAS SO FREAKING ADORABLE.

And the fact that Brian was determined to take things slowly while dating an INCUBUS?!

BABY, THE SELF-CONTROL.

But don’t let all that sweetness fool you because when these two finally let loose?!

GOOD LORD.

WE GOT A HEAT AND A RUT?!

IN THE SAME BOOK?!

AT THE SAME TIME?!

LILY MAYNE, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!

That was genuinely some of the hottest stuff I’ve read in a WHILE. The contrast between Brian’s shy, gentle personality and that absolutely beastly side of him?

I WAS NOT PREPARED.

And of course, getting to revisit the Goliaths and all our favorite couples made everything even better. I LOVE this ridiculous wrestling family, their chaos, their friendships, and how every new book makes me fall a little more in love with this universe.

Also, the way I am already DESPERATE for the next book?!

I NEED IT.

This was sweet, hilarious, ridiculously sexy, and full of the kind of romance that makes you want to find your own Brian.

I missed Lily Mayne’s writing SO MUCH, and this reminded me exactly why I adore her books.

Five stars. My heart is happy. My standards for fictional men remain completely unreasonable.

AND I WOULDN’T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY.

READ IT READ IT READ IT!

Stoooop that was sooo cuuuuuteee!!!
I'm so so happy that Brian finally got his book. He is one of my absolute favorites since book one (crossing my fingers for a Kenneth book) and his story definitely didn't disappoint.

Goliaths of Wrestling is my favorite book series. Impromptu Match my favorite book in general, so I really am a huge fan and these books can't disappoint me, this one included!

Brian is the sweetest, shyest cutie patootie ever. Shy men are my weakness. The way he lost his shyness and opened up to Klaus throughout the book, ahh my heart. So sweet.
Klaus, I loved you when I just knew you as the Elfknot receptionist and now I love you even more. He also is the sweetest cutie patootie, I guess. They just are the perfect match. Both are very much hopeless romantics.
Klaus is so desperate to find someone that loves him for him and not just because of his species and Brian was the perfect match for him. He made it clear that he wanted to really really date him and not just his body.
Not just Brian reassured Klaus but Klaus also made it clear, that he loved and accepted Brian for the person he is.
Brian is always so proud that he bagged himself Klaus.

Like all the Goliath books, this book was filled with sex. Even though I find too many sex scenes boring, I usually don't mind them here. Though the whole rut/heat sex scene were about 40 pages just sex. I will definitely skip this, if or when I reread the story. I just felt my thoughts wander and I didn't enjoy it.

Another issue I had was no real epilogue. Ugh it's a pet peeve of mine.
Too much sex and no epilogue would for sure result in lowering my ranking but nuh-uh I don't think I could rate any Goliath book less then 5 stars. That's how much I adore them.

I'm kinda in a reading slump at the moment. I have a hard time finding books that can hold my attention BUT I read this, quite long book in one sitting. Okay I did have a dinner break but afterwards, immediately back to reading.

Everytime I read a new story in this series, I'm like, this is my new fave couple, no this is my new fave couple. They are all just perfect for each other, including Klaus and Brian!

Frank and Beans' scene had me in stitches! I'm glad they got a cameo.

10/10 definitely recommend.

5 ⭐️ must read series!

I have been dying for this book!! This is my favorite mm monster romance series so when I saw we were getting Klaus and Brian’s story I was so excited and as always Lily Mayne did not disappoint. Brian is the shy, sweet, cinnamon roll, werewolf wrestler who people dont take the time to understand and accept him for who he is. Klaus is the outgoing, kind, cinnamon roll Incubus who just wants someone who wants him for who he is and not for what he can provide in bed. Both don’t understand just how special they truly are until they find each other and are the perfect match! They understand what each other needs and doesn’t hesitate to provide it, they are attentive to what makes them who they are. They were so adorable! I loved how many previous book characters were in this story and how much we got to see them! We also met Nat, Klaus’s best friend and he easily has become one of my favorite characters! I’m so excited for his book next! I’m also hoping we might get Kits book in the future 👀 (they are such a favorite of mine) This story was ultra sweet and extra spicy! I spent the whole book either swooning or laughing 🤣 This is a must read!

As usual, amazing

I reread books 1-4 this week to be prepared. I was mad when I have to pause my book to work. But today as soon as I got out of meetings, I put on Double Shot and I listened until my headset died and as soon as I got home, I grabbed my better headphones and listened. I laughed and got to meet new characters and I enjoyed everything.

Good lord. This is vying for top spot against Dan and Rafe's book, which was a total banger. I adored this book - I love Klaus, and I love Brian. It was super sweet, and also super funny. 'Rice pudding frosting on the shit-shaped mound'? Classic moment.
There were some amazing moments from all our old favourites too. The pumpkin in all of Dan's photos on the real estate site? The one that's Rafe's favourite and he keeps on his bedside table? Hilarious. Holt wearing a leopard-print thong leotard over hot pink tights? Typical. Epic. Repeated references to Vince and Crossbody visiting the motel? And some light titillation with Vince's orders for Crossbody? Hoooooooot. And, possibly the best bit, Frank and Beans (or should I say Banger and Mash?).
“They’re zippers. Don’t sully their purity with your filthy words.”
“You want zippers? We can get you zippers, man. Real good ones. Top quality. Teeth that slot together like a dream, pulls with curves in all the right places…”
I'm so delightfully happy to have devoured this. Now to await book 6!

Edit to add:

Nat and Klaus = Cat and Mouse? Most adorable nicknames ever. We love to see it!

And I've been thinking about how Mayne included a reference to there being a lot of ace concubi, which is such an interesting concept! I've been thinking more about it because the idea of a species that literally survives off sexual energy not enjoying sex is blowing my mind, even though it makes total sense that across a species everyone's sexual references are different and valid. But then it feels odd, because, okay, they don't have sex, cool, no problemo, but then they have to feed off other people's sexual energy, like being close to/listening to people having sex, and does that also make them feel uncomfortable/icky? But they have no choice right, they'd literally die otherwise...
And THEN I got to thinking, what about if an ace concubus goes into heat!? What on earth would they do? Just find the closest orgy and stand in it, soaking up the energy? What about when they get mindless? Would they just engage in sex without thought but then be really grossed out/traumatised between and after?? I can't stop wondering all the things!

Wow ok.

First off let me confirm I’m a massive fan. Huge. I’ll read everything this author writes and have only ever DNF’d one of her books (The creepy creature under the bed one). The Folk Trilogy- I’ve read it over 20 times. Hunter from Edin- one of my favourite MC’s of all time. Holt- well I adore him with every fibre of my being and do not get me started on how Lor makes me cry and has each and every time I read it which is about 9 times at the last count. The point being this review is coming from a diehard fan and not some tourist who does not KNOW the genius this author is capable of.

Let’s pause to appreciate- she can’t write hilarious books, angst, historical, dystopian, heart breaking, light hearted. Any genre and she nails it!

However this book is dull af. I skimmed parts. Too much sex for one thing- omg enough. Practically nothing funny except the jogging scene. Flat interactions with characters from previous books. The first quarter dragged with very little dialogue and the bit with the hoofed guy- can’t remember his name now. That part went on for so long it literally feels like I read that part last week not this morning! Nothing happens. As in absolutely nothing. Why were Frank and Beans brought it? Was was the significance of the human at the motel? What about the glowing eyes? Anything? Anything at all? Instead it’s sex, getting puddings and …. Yep that’s it.

Gahhh I know it’s a numbers game and she was due a truly. To be honest I thought Larkin and Seb were boring but this took the cake. This may be harsh I know but like I said, hardcore fan with exceptionally high expectations therefore the ‘fall’ is further when the story doesn’t pan out which in this case it didn’t. Bummer! I love this series so let’s hope it continues. Not feeling super excited about the couple who are next though so we will see!

Oh, I missed this universe so much. I love this series.

I honestly was surprised by Klaus becoming a main character. I was intrigued by him in False Comeback. However, I was left with the impression that he was some creep and not the cutie we met here. He was so nice and always ready to support his friends, but never so kind to himself. I know he and Brian are a perfect fit, but at the beginning they both seemed so insecure that getting through each other’s walls and building something real seemed impossible. Brian’s situation broke my heart. I can’t believe his own family neglected him so much. I’m so happy we got to see him come out of his shell and feel safe and loved. Honestly, by the end tho they had the most wholesome relationship ever.

Unfortunately, I don't feel like much happened here. I found myself getting bored at times, especially as their relationship progressed so slowly. Don’t get me wrong - the moment the dates started, I was hooked. But the build-up to there was a struggle. Furthermore, I really missed the wrestlers’ found family here. I feel we didn’t have nearly enough chapters from Brian’s POV. Hopefully we will get to spend more time with them in the next book.

Brian and Klaus are so freaking cute and hot I could cry.

I really didn’t know what to think about Klaus going into the book. I genuinely thought he was creepy and pervy (in a not-cute-at-all way) in False Comeback! But he seemed totally different in this book— he was like a sweet slutty little cinnamon roll 😭 and Brian was a big shy cinnamon roll 😭

I loved the autism / neurodivergence rep with Brian. That really hit close to home and I got a little emotional about it a few times 💜

I will say that I think the book could’ve been edited down a little— I found the internal monologues went on too long a few times. I would’ve preferred a bit more show than tell!

But UGH the two of them were SO FREAKING CUTE AND SWEET AND LOVEABLE.

And honestly I think these might be the hottest sex scenes Lily’s ever written 👀 Like. Horny incubus with sex pheromones and sexy werewolf with animalistic impulses? Wow. Incubus heat and werewolf rut?? Wow. Smut with feelings??? Yes please.

So good.

Loved all the cameos from our favourite Goliaths as well 🥹

Klaus and Brian are just two sweeties who don’t think the other is actually interested in them - and couldn’t possibly be! Silly babies!

Absolutely adored this story, Lily can write nothing wrong I swear.

Brian implementing a no s3x rule so that they can get to know each other properly first was so sweet, making sure Klaus knew he wanted him for him not just for what he can get physically. They proceed to go on the sweetest dates and get to know it each other so well. It was so wholesome and sweet - until it wasn’t. Then it was lusty and steamy!!

Also, Nat and Klaus are doing my kind of exercise. Walking to get “smoothies”

I was so excited for this book! I adore this series, and I adore Lily Mayne.

Klaus is familiar as the incubus hotel clerk from Vince and Crossbody's book, and he is an absolute doll. All he wants is just someone to love him so much. Getting to know Brian - B. Ware - was also a delight, since he's one of the super quiet ones of the wrestling group. Seeing their relationship blossom was such a charming, sweet romance that had me kicking my feet and giggling so much.

... When I wasn't fanning myself, that is. Lily knows how to write some *spicy* scenes and these two absolutely are gone for each other.

Already stoked for the next installment.

I absolutely love this series it is simultaneously spicy and hilarious.

Klaus and Brian were so great together. Brian’s shyness and Klaus’s exuberant personality mesh so well together in every way. Their chemistry was fantastic. The beginning of this book was literally so genius FREAKING CLARENCE! I loved the cameos of Crossbody and Vince. This was spicy, hilarious, heartwarming, captivating and a great addition to an already amazing series.

I have loved every Lily Mayne book I have read, and will continue to read everyone she writes 💖

I can't get enough of this series!

I can't believe this series is not more well known! It's one of my favourite MM PNR series'. I am so glad we have a fifth book in the series! I have had a soft spot for werewolf PNR so this book is perfect for me! I loved Klaus and Brian, their dynamic, the way they care for each other and how they grew throughout the story. I can't get enough of this series and can't wait for book 6, with Nat and The Beast!

Even sweeter and hotter than I expected

I wasn't sure how much I would like Klaus, after he got too involved with Vince and Crossbody. I wasn't sure how I'd like Brian, after being so darn quiet.

How silly to worry. Lily Mayne is just perfect, and so are Klaus and Brian as they get to know each other. I'm so excited to be along for the ride with the Goliaths. And I'm dying to find out about Beast in the next book.

This was the spiciest pepper in the patch for me. This series is great for the fluffy emotions and comfy character building but this one was lascivious. Never awkward with the spice, no strange wording or silly phrasing to pull you out of it. Lily never misses with the sweetness either. I'm looking forward to reading about Beast and Nat in the next installment.
