Pleasure Slaves #2

Slave For Rent

Rate this book
Danny has lived his entire eighteen years as a slave of the Tanner family. Coddled as a house slave during childhood, then sent to work in the family lumberyard, he’s happy and counts himself a lucky slave. The one thing he dreams of that’s missing in his life is someone to love. In his deepest fantasies, he imagines being the devoted pleasure slave of an indulgent master.

Paul Graham has built a successful construction company. His business leaves him little time for a social life, but a pretty slave boy at a lumber company has caught his attention. Middle class guys like him usually can’t afford the luxury of a pleasure slave. Yet, he can’t stop thinking of buying Danny for his very own and finally gives into his desire. Danny’s protective master refuses to sell Danny outright, but he’s willing to rent Danny to Paul on the weekends on a trial basis-so long as Danny agrees.

The chance to be a man’s pleasure slave even part-time is too exciting for Danny to resist. Besides, Master Graham is hot, just the kind of man that appeals to the young slave. A doting and patient Paul sets out to teach Danny the pleasure that can be had between two men. Danny is eager to learn the lessons, except that a dark secret he keeps hidden threatens to ruin their budding relationship. Worse, there is another man who covets Danny, and he’ll stop at nothing to possess him.

Wow, this was definitely a nice change compared to book one.

Where book one was all violence and pain, this book was sweet romance, but also (even though it was the loving kind) way too much sex.

Danny is a slave working in the warehouse at Tanner Lumber. He was briefly mentioned in book one. One of the company's clients who runs his own construction company, Paul Graham, knows Danny from the many visits he made to the Tanner Lumber warehouse to purchase stuff for his projects. He fell in love (or rather lust) with Danny and desperately wants to have him. So he begs Ben, CEO of Tanner Lumber (from book one), to sell the slave to him. As Ben is protective of his slaves, he only agrees to lease Danny to Paul as a trial period if Danny wants that too.

Gosh, it sounds so creepy when I describe it like that, LOL.

Anyway, Paul is a nice guy who wants Danny as his boyfriend. Of course, as a slave, Danny isn't familiar with that concept and doesn't realize that Paul is giving him a choice in all this.

It's a pretty quiet story with a dramatic climax in the last half.

The main lesson here is a bit murky, in my opinion. Paul's initial idea of buying his own boyfriend is totally weird, but his desperate efforts to make Danny like him and to treat him as an equal endeared him to me.

Danny, however, is a slave from birth. He considers Paul his master and is happy that Paul treats him kindly, as he's heard lots of horror stories from other slaves (or from book one, LOL). But love?
Danny doesn't think a slave is capable of love. And it seems he might be happier in a loving slave/master relationship than trying to act as a freeman boyfriend to his master.

The society portrayed in this series is pretty f*cked up. It was not exactly a comfort read with the way society is divided into freemen and slaves who have literally no rights and can be tortured or even put to death if they defend themselves.

Still, it was a solid story and I'm happy both Danny and Paul are happy with the way the story ended. I think it's as close to a HEA as a story set in such a universe will allow.

If only there wasn't so much sex....

3.5. stars!

As great this time as before!!! 💜

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Oh my! I thought Ben and Oliver from book 1 of the series, Body Slave, were great. Well, guess what... Paul and Danny are even greater!

Paul is a middle-class, construction company owner who often stocks up on supplies in Ben's lumberyard. That's where he spots Danny (whom we met in book 1). Danny is a slave boy, raised in Ben's house, and now he works in Ben's company as a carpenter. He's lucky because he works with his father and from time to time is allowed to visit with his mother - a slave cook in Mr. Tanner's house. But that's also Danny's problem - no other slave hits on him under the watchful eye of his father, Big John.

Although Danny is no body slave, Paul decides to buy him as his companion. He feels attracted to the pretty slave boy, but also finds Danny intriguing, sweet and worth getting to know - he sees Danny not as an object but as a man with skillful hands, beautiful body and interesting personality. Ben is hesitant however. He's a good man, he cares of his slave workers and respects their opinions. Finally he agress to lease Danny out to Paul - if the slave boy is willing, he can spend the weekends with Paul.

I liked Danny and Paul's story very much.
On the one hand, we have Paul's efforts to make Danny feel wanted and respected. His urging the boy to express his feelings and opinions. His attempts to show Danny more of the world normally not available for slaves (a restaurant, a concert, a beach).
On the other, we see Danny's efforts to please his new Master. His tentative exploration of this new, strange "relationship" as his Master calls their arrangement. All those new little things, new clothes, new tastes, the SEX, make Danny believe he's found a loving partner and not just a Master...

The story has a few nasty twists, obviously, but generally? I loved it! And not even the not-fitting-again cover photo will change my opinion and rating - 5 stars this time! :)

I knew the situation going into this book - a modern world where slavery is still very much in existence - but it just didn't sit well with me. Not only is there on page sexual assault and rape, but the idea of consent is largely out of the window.

Paul is of course wonderful and Danny is the absolute sweetest, but so much of the story just made my gut churn.

I guess it's more of a not-right-for me read.

A very sweet romance. Paul was so kind and patient with Danny. Danny had always been a slave, his parents were slaves, so he never expected to fall in love with such a wonderful man as Paul.

It was just okay

It was a little fluffy for me overall.
I liked the characters, but as I read through the book, I kept thinking that I needed some spark somewhere but sadly it never happened.

A little predictable but still a great book!

Book review

While being a hot erotica based book I saw this as mostly a social commentary on slavery. I've never thought very much about the slavery issue which we dealt with in our history and probably still goes on in various places in the world whether legal or illegal. The world building was very good being an alternate type universe where slavery still exists in the United States with both black and white people being slaves. We meet 19-year-old Danny who is a slave for the Tanner lumber company (we first meet this character in the previous book of the series). He has been a slave all of his life and is well trained to do what he is told and keep his place as a slave in society. The other main character is a free man named Paul who has been seeing Danny for a while and is attracted to him so much that he works out a plan to lease Danny to be his own slave while his actual intention is to have Danny be his lover and boyfriend. Paul is against slavery and all that it stands for and does his best to build a relationship with Danny based on mutual love and trust. He is challenged by society however and Danny's mindset that he is and always will be just a slave. It is interesting how the author blends elements of their relationship and compares them to a normal relationship between two free people. In a normal relationship there is always one member who is a little more dominant than the other. Sometimes these roles reverse depending on circumstances. Although he sees himself as Danny's boyfriend Paul has to act like he is Danny's master in order to get through to him in many instances. It is sort of a tough love type of thing at times. We wonder if Danny will ever be able to see Paul as his lover and not his master until Paul becomes more firm with him and Danny starts to respond. However as in all books there is a bad guy which causes them setbacks and frustrations and tests their new relationship. Another well-written heart wrenching story from this author in this series. This Book is highly recommended!

Was honestly really annoyed that the first time they went home together, they didn't sit down and have a frank conversation. At some point, there should have been a conversation where the free man explained to the slave that he was part of an online community of people who didn't believe in slavery and had egalitarian romantic relationships between free men and slaves. Instead, we had this free man who was just a super nice owner and a slave who felt lucky to have such a laid back owner. It was irritating, because it felt like the free man didn't respect the slave enough to tell him.

Enjoyable read

Just enough darkness to keep it edgy without exhausting you. Great characters. I am enjoying the series. Starting book 3 right now.

This series so far has been oddly intriguing for me. I wanted to read this book after learning a little about Danny in book one. This book was a lot less rapey than the first, which I liked. I didn't really get into the romance, because I couldn't get past the whole body slave thing, but this was a short story that was certainly interesting... though very predictable.

Decent read (spoilers)

The good: Writing mechanics there. Few, if any, editing issues. The author writes erotica well- a bit vanilla for me but still hot.
The not so good: World building could be fleshed out more. The central relationship had basically no uncertainty since the Master was an all round good guy who wanted a boyfriend and the Slave was already in lust with him at the story's beginning. So no character growth. Could have been more with the premise.

Like I said, decent and uncomplicated story. Worth the money.

Straightforward, HEA.
