Alexis Parker #9

Intended Target

Rate this book
Inside the federal courthouse, a single gunshot punches a hole through the window, leaving two bodies in its wake. One of the victims is an Assistant United States Attorney. The other is juror number five. Due to the nature of the crime, the OIO is assigned to evaluate the security measures implemented by the U.S. Marshal Service.

Special Agent Alexis Parker has only been back on the job for three months when she's tasked to investigate the double homicide, but identifying the killer won't be easy since the evidence leads to nothing but dead ends. Relying on her instincts, despite her colleagues' protests, Alex digs deeper, determined to prove that they've been focused on the wrong target all along.

Meanwhile, Alex receives a call from attorney Jack Fletcher. He needs to hire a private investigator, and since she has a soft spot for this particular lawyer, she agrees to help. Moonlighting is frowned upon by the federal government, but Alex has never been a stickler for the rules. However, juggling her side business with her government job would be easier without Agent Lucca poking around, determined to discover the truth behind Alex's resignation and reinstatement.

Forced to re-evaluate her priorities, she must determine if the U.S. Marshal Service was at fault, figure out who murdered the AUSA, manage to remain sane while juggling a job as a federal agent, a private sector position as a P.I., and a personal life, not to mention remembering to duck and cover when things take a turn for the worst.

Boxing clever.

This time Alexis gets involved in underground boxing via the double murder of a juror and a D.A. during a trial. The bullet went through the chest of the juror, who happened to be standing, into the head of the attorney.
All eyes are on the dead lawyer, but nothing crops up, Alexis has a gut feeling that the juror was the intended target & starts poking about in his life.
A volunteer boxing coach, whose protege had died in the ring of an illegal fight recently, the deeper Alexis digs , the more she confirms her suspicions that he was the real target. Mark, her boss at IOI, tells her to run with it & see if she can bulk out her theory, which leads her to joining a boxing gym and getting more leads to follow.
She has been partnered with Lucca, despite her demanding she work alone given her previous history when her last partner died. Not her fault, but she believes she has some responsibility.
Plenty of friction between Alexis & Lucca, she calls him not scout, cos he sticks to the rules, he thinks she is a pedigree birch - all good fun.
More threads intertwine during the investigation, at some point, the possibility of the juror being the target looks more likely and various members of the gym come under scrutiny. Still the shooter is not identified, just an average make in baseball bat & sunglasses.
A very good read with no critical injuries to the special agent this time.

In this adventure, Alex and her team have to solve a double murder in a courthouse. Initially, they focus on the assistant US attorney as the intended victim, but Alex begins to suspect he’s not he one to focus on. Instead, it’s the juror who got shot first.

A friend also comes to her about being blackmailed, and as the two cases overlap, everything gets really complicated.

Nice tight plot, lots of interesting characters, and more crazy Alex. I like her new potential partner, Eddie, even though she doesn’t.

Some nice moments with her and Martin, but a little more balance would be an improvement.

Still, a great read.

Alex and Martin are trying to work on their relationship but he's still angry she didn't tell him about going back to OIO, but he's even more angry at his best friend, Mark, who is also her boss. He feels Mark manipulated the situation. She's in the middle of a double homicide and has come home with injuries again. They spend most of a weekend together and get back on track. The crimes of assault, murder and illegal gambling are solved.

Right on Target. 5 Stars

As always this was a thoroughly investigated complex case for Alexis. With so many potential perps which may seem confusing, but with G K Parks excellent writing skills the picture was plain to see in your mind, with the pages turning rapidly, Alexis getting into dangerous situations and building up to an excellent ending. We get to read more about Alexis hot love interest James Martin too, always a bonus.....

The Alexis Parker series is So entertaining!

Excellent ! This is another hard to put down and extremely well written mystery by G K Parks. What an incredibly talented author. The characters in this series are so well written , interesting and believable. I have trouble putting these books down without finishing them. As soon as one book ends, I want to start on the next to see how the main characters' lives are progressing. What an incredible author and a wonderful series!

Bad ass OIO agent

Alexis Parker is crass, stubborn, smart and oblivious of how to be in a relationship. Martin and her make a strange b/f g/f mix. Martin is on the quest to have Alexis as his g/f and still do her job professionally. All Alex knows is the job. Fitting Martin in her life has opened her up to be a woman and not 'just' an agent. She is smart and has an intuition of who the culprit is before most of the other agents.

Will Alexis stay with OIO

Book 9 down. I'm so glad I discovered G.K. Parks. From book to book I wonder if Alex will join police force, stay with FBI, or private practice. She is quite the mystery. Even though I could read these books out of sequence, I don't want to get too far ahead, because I want to see her growth along the way.

Great series

This is my second time reading this series. At the time of this review, there are 27 books in this series. I love going back to reading it again. The sarcasm, the characters, the interesting mysteries, and the suspense makes this series really great. I highly recommend it.

It’s nice to see Alex back at the OIO, and even more of a surprise that her two cases ended up being connected. In addition, I was shocked with Lucca’s appearance as her unofficial partner but intrigued to see how they play out. Great 9th book in the series.

Great story, Alexis is finally shaking off her hang ups. I am sure her and Lucca will be great partners in the future, just a couple of more ghosts to put to bed for her.

The characters were amazing as always, the underlying personal storyline was amazing as always, the murder mystery portion was a little MEH in this one, though.
