At some point in your Christian walk you may have fasted from food, television, or other things in order to refocus and rekindle your relationship with Christ. Fasting may even be a frequent part of your prayer life. But have you ever fasted from words? The truth is that even if you consider yourself to be a positive person, you still use damaging words that plague your life and rob you of the spiritual growth you desire. Change your words. Change your life. "The Forty-Day Word Fast "focuses on several biblically sound mechanisms to help you change your words and your life. Not only will your vocabulary change, your heart also will be transformed in just forty days. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matt. 12:34 nkjv). With this guaranteed effective form of fasting you will be challenged to eradicate from your speech all words of... Judgment Criticism or sarcasm Negativity Complaining Gossip
I certainly needed this book. Was I successful with my first 40-days? No, I wasn’t, but I became aware of how guilty I am. I thought before I spoke. I plan to do this challenge again, and maybe again until I reach my goal. This book was a revelation, you’ll be shocked at how often you use words associated with the five words below, or maybe you won’t. I certainly was, and I plan to clean up my act. A bad habit needs to be broken. Biblically based with scripture references.
This book challenges you to remove all words associated with: Judgment Criticism or sarcasm Negativity Complaining Gossip
The book is divided in 2 sections. In the first, the author lays out a great Biblical basis for evaluating the way we speak. The second section is 40 small "devotionals" that address some of the words we should fast from. Over the past 40 days, I have found myself thinking a lot more about my speech. Especially when it comes to being overly critical or sarcastic.
This book was very good to read and I believe every believer should challenge themselves to read this on a consistent basis. Reference to scripture made it even better and just really opened my eyes to the issues we all face in the day to day that may seem small but our very deep and need dealt with.
The message in this book is really important for the church to learn. God has been revealing a lot of the same things to me over the past year and it was great to have those lessons reinforced through the 40 day fast. If you enter into this fast, do it for real. remember God has grace for your mistakes and there is a balance that needs to be struck between saying only encouraging words and speaking the truth, even when it is hard, but always in love. Don't just swing from one side of the spectrum to the other, find the balance by walking in the spirit of Christ.
Amazing book highly recommend.I will apply diligently these teachings. Life changing thanks for this great resource. This book is fo anyone that struggles with their words and want to change to be more like Jesus

This book helped me learn a new language. I became aware of words that were toxic not only to others but to my own soul. I desperately wanted to change and control my tongue. I will be rereading this book as I have become aware of how important my words are and still need to apply the principles I learned here. I love that each day I am given something particular to focus on. Excellent book and necessary for every Christian!
3.5 stars. There were parts of this book/devotional I really loved and a few that felt kind of trite. But I recommend it for anyone who struggles with the words coming out of their mouth - negativity, complaining, criticism, sarcasm (although I’m not one who thinks that ALL sarcasm is bad), gossip, or judging others.
Great book to read with friends. This book pointed out so many things that I never considered as having an impact on my spirituality and walk as a Christian. Really opened my eyes to things I thought were minor but have a great impact. Reading a second time.
If you have the time to dedicate, this is a worthy book to help rid yourself of negative, judgemental, critical words. It does take time and energy to break bad habits as well as create new, better ones. I learned a lot but had trouble consistently reading.
It is amazing how often these 40 word work into our mind and speech everyday. To use this Fast daily and repeat as a quick daily devotion helps keep our thoughts and words in line with the love of Jesus.
This may have been a great book for most people, but I lost interest quickly, ending in not enjoying the book. Maybe I will try to reread this in a few months and see if I feel differently.
This book is one that has a lot of important concepts to consider presented in small segments. World would be such a healthier place if we tried to practice these ideas.
I'm still going through the journaling process of the 40 days at the end of the book, but I have finished reading the actual text of the book. Really awesome insight that Tim Cameron brings to the table. Biblically based and some qualities presented in a way I hadn't thought about, it has left me really pondering what he said each day and changing what I say and don't say, conversations I take part in (and step out of), and how I speak to my family, specifically. A great read for anyone, but especially women, as our mouths are prone to more of these negative qualities by nature. Highly recommend!
Reading this book is like going to a doctor and finding out more is wrong than originally suspected. If you think you're fairly healthy in your speech, and ensuing thoughts, you might discover the illness that afflicts most of us. But, the great news is Mr. Cameron gives us a prescription for change. The insidious creep of negativity can disguise itself as righteousness. I want to speak the language of Heaven and, by identifying the six speech obstacles outlined in this book, I am becoming fluent.
Really good book! I recommend it. And even better if you do the 40 days fasting with daily journaling (answering 3 questions each day) which is included in the book.
