About the author

Whether you’re seven or seventy, the chances are you’ve probably come in contact with one of his many books (150 plus), or cartoons that have appeared in over 200 magazines in the course of his lifetime, including Laugh it Off which was syndicated for 20 years. His comic strip Tuffy, about a little girl who did funny things, was declared essential for national morale during WWII by William Randolph Hearst.

Syd has worked in diverse genres. He had the distinct honor of working with Alfred Hitchcock and Ellery Queen as a contributor of short fiction writing. He was awarded national advertising commissions for large companies such as Chevrolet, Maxwell House Coffee and others. He had his own TV show (Tales of Hoff on CBS), traveled the world as entertainment on cruise ships and entertained children and teachers in schools and libraries across the country.

Danny and his friend the Dinosaur enjoy spending time together. When the Dinosaur comes to meet Danny in the park, he sees that they are not alone. Danny has a new puppy and is teaching him some new tricks. Dinosaur wants to partake in the fun as well, though his size makes that a little more difficult. After a long day of playing, Danny and the puppy bid goodnight to Dinosaur, who returns to the museum. However, Danny has an idea that eventually allows the puppy and Dinosaur to spend even more time together. Neo was required to do some of the reading here and he showed that he is getting better with it. He sounds out the words and breezes through many of them, especially when he gets on a roll. Happy to see Neo excelling at reading and enjoying the process.

My kids love the Danny the Dinosaur books but this was very disappointing as the illustrations were in black and white. After a series of full color pics, we feel hoodwinked that this title went for printing on the cheap. For beginning readers looking for a fun series, expecting color and getting black and white is a real let-down.

This beginning reader book is a great story that will make children laugh. It tells the story of a boy and a dinosaur training a new puppy. When the dinosaur does the puppy commands, it causes mayhem. In the end, the three have a sleepover in the museum.

Danny and his friend, the Dinosaur, meet in the park for a play date with Danny's new puppy. They go through a lot of fun shenanigans as they days goes on until the dinosaur and the puppy collapse into sleep at their sleepover. This is a sweet book and is great for beginning readers.
