But in a place founded on a bedrock of magic and mystery, Evie discovers there are some willing to summon great evil to gain power. Dr. Seuss was my first love. When my mom left me in the children’s section of the library I’d find Horton and the Cat. My mom hated the good doctor and refused to checkout his books. He was my secret, guilty pleasure. Eventually, I read about Narnia, Oz and Green Gables.
When my mom grew too sick to visit the library, a friend brought her a stash of romances which she kept in a big box beside her bed. Weekly, this good friend replenished the box. My mom didn’t know I read her books; it was like the Seuss affair, only sexier. Reading became my escape from a horrific and scary situation. Immersed in a story, I didn’t have to think about the life and death drama taking place on the other side of my bedroom wall. Books were my hallucinogenic drug of choice. In college, I studied literature and fell in love with Elliot, Willa and too many others to mention. (This had no similarity to my dating life.)
I’m no longer a child living with a grieving father and a dying mother, nor am I the co-ed in search of something or someone real, nonfictional. I’m an adult blessed with an abundance of love. I love my Heavenly Father and His son, my husband and family, my dog, my friends, my neighbors, my writing group, the birds outside my window.
Because I’m a writer, I also love my characters. I adore their pluck, courage and mettle. I admire the way they face and overcome hardships. But, as in any romance, I sometimes I get angry with them and think that they are too stupid to live. At those times, I have to remind myself that they live only in my imagination, unless I share. Writing for me is all about sharing--giving back to the world that has so generously shared with me-- because I learned a long time ago that the world is full of life and death dramas. Sometimes we need a story to help us escape.
And we need as much love as we can find. That’s why I write romance.

Definitely a 2nd of 3 books ending

No spoilers, just thoughts.
Interesting that a school that is supposed to be a safe place for witches only discusses witchcraft in a very after-class-just-don't-expose-us way. And the only crafting we see is teens doing petty vengeance or love spells. What is the purpose of the school? Just so kids might learn they aren't alone? Or if their parents went there then they can learn through gossip what other families have magic?

Something seems up with Dylan. Was he promised Evie, or someone foresaw their marriage? It's hard to really know much about the culture of these witches. I guess Birdie stays cryptic & unexplain-y because Evie hasn't committed yet, but I wonder how she can commit when she doesn't know what that commitment entails, the only people who have anything to say are the family she has who thinks it's malarkey & the only people helping her are her non-magical neighbors.

It looks like Evie has painted herself into a corner though & will have to embrace magic if she wants to return the world to the way we know it.

Pretty good witchy book

Evie a 15 year old girl in a private high school is crushing on her best friend Bree's older brother Josh. They are her next door neighbors. Although, the cute Dylan is still into her. The crazy love triangle.

Evie learns of a tale about a creature in their local park, more like a legend. Girl's in her school are jealous of her "relationship" with Dylan and seek her power, which she is still in denial of. Her grandmother Birdie, helps her some, but doesn't play much of a role in the plot.

I have been provided with a copy of Witch Winter by the author for an impartial review. Witch Winter is the second book in the Witch Ways series and what a great second installment it was. I loved getting to see more of the characters and see how that go through their lives and solve problems. I can’t wait for the next installment.

This series is really capturing my interest. I like the innocence of the main character and the possibility of magic or is it just coincidence? Very nice blend of suspense, romance and the humor. Some parts are just really funny. The raisins in this one. :) A very nice read!

Nice, easy to read, but didn't want it to end so soon. Can't wait to read the third in the series. For those who love young adult fiction, this series is for you.

Quick read, good read. Hoping the issue that made Birdie so made is not true. Will have to read next one to find out.

Disjointed with an abrupt ending

The book wasn't a bad read but I found it in its entirety disjointed with an abrupt ending that left me confused and wondering what the heck! Read it at your own peril trying to figure out what was going on and at the end you can forget everything in the book. The ending was so abrupt that I figure the author had no clue where to go from there and made up an ending because it was hard work to do anything else.

Evelynn Marston is managing to make some friends at her new school, Despaign Academy. Dylan is still hanging around and insisting they are meant to be together forever while Evie keeps insisting they are just friends. Just friends because her heart is focused on her best friend Bree's older brother, Josh Henderson. But even more critical is writing a top notch essay so she will be selected to join the school newspaper next semester. When her story about solving the murders at the old theater (read book one and you will know all about this!) is rejected, she writes an article on how to make anyone fall in love with you. To do this she goes against her uncle's wishes and uses his scientific research that was successful in making the lady across the street fall in love with him. While this essay wins her a spot on the newspaper, it wrecks havoc on the rest of her life. She looses her chance with Josh, angers her uncle, and now thanks to a surprise picture taken and included in the paper with her article, everyone thinks Dylan is her boyfriend. When things couldn't get much worse, her spell book is stolen and the repercussions from that involve mean girls, lying, an innocent dog being accused of an attack, and the local monster awakened from the chasm. As Christmas rapidly approaches, Evie with help from Bree and others, tries to straighten things out.

Once again MS Tate has written a a clever story about witches, young people, and a heroine who strives to do the right thing. It is a winning combination. Once again I am anxiously waiting for the next book in the series to find out what happens next! If you haven't read either of these books, be sure to start with Witch Ways (Book 1) and then read this book 2. Definitely books that are meant to be read in order! Now if book 3 were only published...

Still biased

Once again we have everything but witches. All sorts of Christmas carols, Bible passages and even a scripture having her drop into hell as she interacts with her witchy grandmother. Now we are going to attribute the magic of Christmas to you guessed it--someone's birthday. Too bad it's a stolen pagan holiday.

I've enjoyed both the books in this series so far. Looking forward to the next. It isn't the sort of novel I would normally choose to read but it was none the less enjoyable.

Witchy Ways to Deal With Problems

Evie is still confused about magic, love, and duty. Dylan still claims Evie as his girlfriend while mutual attraction with Josh confuses her. She flirts with magic in powerful ways but is unsure she actually accomplished what happened. She has an intense magical experience at the end of the story, but the only outcome she is sure of is her attraction to Josh. Will she come to terms with her magic? Will things work out with Josh? I look forward to the next book.

Kindle Unlimited though must have gotten book 2 and 3 on free days so pulled 1 up just to start it from beginning. Waste of time; if wanted to read paranormal, these were NOT the books, if wanted to read 'preaching' books this was NOT the place to be put, if wanted to read teen angst chick crap wouldn't have which is why don't read those type, willingly. Didn't find the characters realistic nor believable, the writing and descriptive parts rather flat, and the 'plot' definitely needed work. x3
