I loved this book. It's the second book in the Harmon Heritage Series and it is every bit as good as the first book, Rori's Healing. It picks up the story from the first book and follows the relationship between Beck and Savvy who are both fighting their own battles. It is a beautiful and compelling story of Beck's trying to find peace and forgiveness for things in his past and Savvy's learning that her beauty comes from the inside and that she doesn't have to be judged by her outward scars. Even though it is a sequel, it can be read as a standalone, but I am sure after reading it the reader will want read the first book. I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review, and it is another from this author wholeheartedly recommend.
A prodigal son comes back home to face the community he fled and the girl, his best friend, he left behind. Hiers' story of a hero who needs healing as much as the heroine, a burn victim, is a gentle, funny, and wise lesson in moving beyond the scars we can see and the ones we can't. The story, a glimpse into survival after horrific burns, is lightened by the presence of llamas and the friendship that can't help but still exist between the two main characters. Looking forward to the next book in the series. *I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Seeing Beck again stirs painful memories for Savvy McCord. How dare he waltz into her life again! Does he think she has forgotten what he did? Determined not to let her emotions run amok, Savvy concentrates on the past vowing never to trust Beck—again. But when she sees the changes God has made in Beck’s life, she is unable to deny her heart what it has always wanted—to love Beck. Can she forget the past and overcome her doubts about herself…and Beck?
Beck’s Peace is a heart-warming tale of second chances. And I so love second chances, don’t you? Dora does a wonderful job depicting the struggles with physical and emotional scars. Through Beck and Savvy, we experience healing, forgiveness, and restitution as they work through a lifetime of emotional baggage to make their way to a long-awaited happily ever after! Yay!
However, Beck’s Peace isn’t just a romantic tale, but an emotionally charged story about survivors. The first time Beck walks into the room of a burn victim, we become aware of the sights, sounds, and smells of the place.
As readers, we listen as the young victims tell their stories and weep over their seemingly lost dreams. We learn what a heart filled with love can achieve as Beck and Savvy work together to relieve the hurts of their young friends and each other.
Filled with compassion and hope for all survivors, Beck’s Peace is encouraging to all those who have suffered loss and long for healing.
Favorite Line
Because so many readers dive right into the story and never read the front of the book, I wanted to share this one.
“You are precious and beautiful in God’s sight, exactly the way you are. Never, ever forget that. One day you’ll wake up and realize the storm has passed. The pain has lessened, the tears have dried up, and the Son has risen.” ~ Dora Hiers, Burn Survivor
Favorite Scene
I couldn’t spoil this one for you. But I will tell you that it has to do with posters, horses, and a camera. It was a fantastic idea. Absolutely lovely!
Beck's Peace is the second book in the Harmon Heritage series. I read the first book, Rori's Healing, not too long ago and really enjoyed it so picking up the next book for review was a no brainer. I think Beck's Peace can stand alone but I think you will enjoy it more if you read Rori's Healing first.
Beck took off years ago leaving his family and friends behind. He's been wandering the country, working and running from his past. One of those people Beck left behind is Savvy, his friend, his love and his sister's best friend.
Savvy thought Beck loved her but then he saw her burn scars and took off, leaving her heart devastated. Now he is back and trying to make amends but Savvy doesn't trust him but she still loves him.
Now Beck is trying to prove himself worthy. He is fighting to help Savvy see her beauty- inside and out.
I loved this book. I thought it was full of emotion and that tension that makes you want to keep reading. Beck works so hard to make up for his absence with his family and Savvy. He wants to be there for them. The family connection was fantastic and I was really rooting for both Beck and Savvy the whole way.
Today is release day for Beck's Peace! Yay! No waiting, only reading. :) I hope you all enjoy this series as much as I have!
This is a clean romance. Christian Fiction. No swearing or sexual situations.
Beck and Savvy were high school sweethearts. Life happened and Beck took off for parts unknown. Over the years he's kept in touch with his twin, but didn't come home until thirteen years later for his little sisters wedding. Life has changed Beck and one of his goals while he is home is to find Savvy and apologize.
Savvy has been in love with Beck for a lot of years. When he returns home her biggest fear is that he will leave again. How can she trust that he won't? She hasn't changed much over the years. Is it even possible he could love her?
This story was wonderful. One of the main topics covered is burn survivors. Seeing past the scars to the beautiful person within. It is a very emotional subject and not an easy thing for a survivor to get through. So many doubts and fears. I love how the author used a house remodel to get things across in a beautiful way.
Savvy McCord is a burn survivor and feels her scars make her unattractive and unworthy of love and marriage. What else can she think when Beck Harmon, her best friend and the man she’s loved forever, takes off after only seeing part of her scarring. He ran away and didn’t return. Beck Harmon has spent years running and searching for peace. Now he’s returned home a changed man and finds the connection with Savvy is still very strong. He has a heart for burn victims and wants Savvy to help him with his idea of how to minister to them. Savvy wants to help Beck but her feelings for him are still strong and she fears her heart will be broken again if he takes off. Can Beck convince Savvy that he’s a changed man and that he thinks she’s beautiful inside and out? Is Savvy willing to risk giving her heart again to the man that broke it apart all those years ago?
Wow! Beck’s Peace is a wonderful soul-stirring story that you’ll think about long after you close the book. This is book 2 in the Harmon Heritage series and picks up where book 1 left off. I wasn’t sure at first if I was going to like Beck. I mean, he took off and hasn’t had any contact with Savvy at all and you feel her heartache. But the longer you read the more you realize that those years away (and the Lord) really changed him. I fell in love with Beck. He was such a neat guy and so romantic. I loved the way he handled his return and the way he was with Savvy. The interaction and dialog between them was outstanding. We got to know Savvy in Rori’s Healing and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how her story played out. She is outwardly strong yet she has such a kind and tender heart. I love the way this story encourages burn victims to remember that who they are hasn’t changed because of their scars. In fact, we all have scars, it’s just some of us have ones you can’t see. We are reminded that man look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. There are lots of tender moments woven throughout but there are also some humorous moments too, right when you need them. Beck’s Peace kept me quickly turning pages from beginning to end yet wanting to savor every moment. I labeled it as a favorite and one I would definitely recommend.
Some Favorite Quotes:
“Why did it always take something catastrophic to make a person long for what could have been? To make a person take stock of their blessings and realize what they’d given up or taken for granted?”
“Savanna McCord, I have been from one end of this earth to the other. You are the most beautiful woman on the face of the planet. Don’t you ever believe otherwise.”
