This was kind of like a contemporary romance mixed with some fantastical elements, where Kennick is determined to outwit a "binding" despite the insistent need to find his other half. He's a bit insular, his culture steeped in legend and mysticism but he can't ignore the pull.
Reed has basically been in the closet and is discouraged, having never successfully been able to connect with anyone, each attempt ending in disaster. When he's confronted with a mysterious stranger, he finds it quite difficult to say no.
Of course I would have liked more regarding these two, a more fleshed out coming together but this was different in execution as it adds a sense of destiny despite a jaded outlook - fate sometimes is the only answer as to why two people fit just right, so one might as well fully embrace it.

I got lucky. I was a beta-reader, and one of the most amazing things about reading Raine O'Tierney's stories as they come to fruition is that the little gems of ideas are there from the very beginning. It's like watching the most glorious rose bush bloom. Such a talented author - every story Raine writes is so different, but at its heart lies a fundamental innocence and a belief in the goodness of people. I believe she calls it 'the sweetness'.
'Sing Me Your Love Song' definitely has the sweetness, but in the way of a magical cocktail, where you aren't sure if it's sweet, or sour, and so you take another sip, and another, and another...
The story begins with Kennick bursting into his great aunt Day's fortune-telling session and demanding she remove the red thread of fate from his wrist. Day's wicked delight in telling Kennick she can't is brilliant, and captures in that moment the relationship between great aunt and great nephew.
And so, the two set off on the trail of the red thread...where Kennick first stumbles across his fated.
Hehe.
I utterly adore Reed. His drunken befuzzlement and willingness to just accept all of the craziness is so real - that kind of 'whatever you say' philosophy we all develop when we've had a few too many.
This is a short story, so I can't say much more without spoiling it, but it is magical realism with much humour, some very cool folklore and a good dash of sexy.

Well, this little story was a pleasant surprise. Loved the plot idea, and enjoyed the characters and their way towards one another. One of them highly reluctant, which I quite enjoyed.

The author labeled this ‘magical realism’ and I really like that description. I think it fits. Kennick is tasked to find his ‘fated one,’ and the red string around his wrist that pulls him towards that person can only be seen by him. It’s the only clue as to who his soulmate is. He was expecting a girl, and he got…
Reed, his unsuspecting ‘fated one’ is totally hilarious. He’s on a bar crawl with some buds, a saucy stag celebration of sorts. Reed’s camping it up and cross-dressing as Printheth Cattail (you have to read it) is utter fun. I really like this guy. He’s comfortable in his own skin, he’s a risk taker. When he meets Kennick in one of the bars, he literally jumps at the chance to hook up with him, a virtual stranger. And all on the promise of the soulmate thing. He’s been looking for love, he’s ready to take the chance… and Kennick’s real cute (I mean, look at that cover)…
It’s about magic, about letting go. And I was really rooting for these two.
The ending left me a little… hmmmm. It’s not typical, but it does work within this world. And I do like different. I also really like this author’s style, will def be looking into reading more of her stuff.

Nothing like I've ever read before, this was a magical story of fated lovers, reincarnations and memories from previous lives, lots of snarky dialogue, hot sexy times - delightful all the way.

If this is what all fated/bonded stories are like, call me not a fan. They have absolutely no choice in the matter because they're "meant to be" and even if they reject each other now, they'll come back to each other eventually. Plus that whole "Fate's string" is all but dragging them toward each other. Then there's the whole "owning" thing - no. Then there's the most unromantic, uninspiring and unsexy love story ever, which is meant to get Reed in the mood. Although, if that actually did work on Reed, perhaps that's a better indicator than anything else that they are well-suited for each other.
Still, it's well-written and imaginative, so two stars.

3.5, rounded up because I like this author's writing...the words, the style.
Quirky read. A little sad in parts, but mostly fun and sweet with an interesting storyline. Would have been a solid four if we'd gotten more, the end came too fast for me.
Side notes:
A little confusion with world building; were Kennick and Day from the same world as Reed?
Would have liked more explanation behind Reed being in the closet. Not sure why that was part of the storyline.
My eyebrow raised at the mechanics of Reed's first time. Spit for lube?

*Biased alert since it's the story from the prompt I wrote.*
I read this story as soon as it became available, but didn't have a chance to stop by and review it until now.
The author did a great job incorporating most, if not all the aspects from the prompt into an innovative story. The presence of a visible thread of faith sounds like a good idea to me, no worries about dating and all.
As I read the story, I was able to recognized Kennick. He was just like the guy in the prompt picture. It was amazing how Raine captured his facial expression and attitude within the story; the same can be said about Reed.
The best part, the book is two stories intertwined as one. The song was as appealing as the main story. I can actually see them engrossed in the song and revisiting each other.
It was fun, interesting, and an easy summer read. I hope the author show us Redd's journey on a later time.

Quirky and sweet read with a touch of magical realism and a dollop of gypsy folklore. Reed is adorably innocent and trusting and Kennick... mmm... just deliciously mysterious. A fun pairing and a fun summer read :)

This book was short and strange.
**Grammar**
The book starts with Kennick bursting into his great aunt Day's fortune-telling session and demanding her to remove the red thread of fate from his wrist. She tells Kennick she can't and soon later they are off trying to find Kennick's fated one.
One of Reed's best friends is getting married and they are having a bachelor party. Reed is dressed as the bride and is getting drunk.
When Kennick finds him, Reed is pratically hugging the toilet.
{“I was curious what sort of person you would be. I wasn’t expecting demure, so the retching? I’m not really bothered at all. However, I wasn’t expecting a cock. You can imagine I’m surprised.”....The wedding dress was a surprise, too. You cross-dress"}
Reed asks him who he is and Kennick tells him he is his fated one.Reed doesnt believe in this shit,but still he agrees on meeting Kennick's great aunt.Soon later Reed goes back in the bar and to his friends and for all the night in each bar they go he sees Kennick.
At the end of the night he and Kennick meet again and talk. Reed explains to him that all the time he tried to get laid something happened and stopped him on having sex. Reed is starting to believe that maybe this happened bcs he needed to meet Kennick, but the other man replies that if this was real he too should have had the same issue and he hadnt. Kennick is not a virgin like Reed.
The ritual consists in singing a song to the partner to get him/her in the mood. Reed asks him what's the story about and Kennick tells him that the song come to him after they were bound.
The song is like a reminiscence of their past lives. Is a story set thousands of years before. Ember (Reed) was in love with the chief of his tribe Bear (Kennick). The older man had been with a lot of women and had had sons and daughters, while Ember was still a virgin. One night he had wanted to lose his virginity with Bear, but the other man finding him in the middle of the night near his bed had thought the younger man wanted to kill him and the 2 had fought and Bear had showed him out of his tent. Ember had been exiled by the elders.
Time passes and Ember is now the chief of another tribe. He and Bear meet again on the battlefield, but Bear doesnt kill him, he takes Ember prisoner. Ember is sure Bear will kill him, but he is wrog.That same night they make love. This is something new for both of them and it hurts, but at the same time is what Ember wants. The next day Bear bonds with him infront of the tribe. The great warrior that gave many strong children to the tribe had finallay chosen his mate.
Kennick and Reed make love and the scene was also a bit funny. The next morning Kennick leaves Reed sleeping in the hotel bed and goes to his great aunt. He tells her he bonded with the man and that now all is over. The woman thinks he is an idiot and maybe he really is, since he cant stop thinking about Reed and soon turns back in the direction of the hotel where he left Reed.
Both of them cant ignore their link, their bond. Not soon after Reed wakes up alone in bed, he feels the pull of the link. He is getting in a cab and following the pull that he is sure is taking him towards Kennick.

While the premise of this short story is good and writing fluid enough, everything else seems to be lacking.
I agree that too many words can spoil a good story, but here we have a plot which does not make a lot of sense and characters that are hardly outlined: they meet -and one does not really understand why- and they have sex. By contrast every possible M/M stereotype is there, including the rigid division between alpha, dominant male and weak, submissive half-male.
I also wish to note the rather juicy detail that the dominant male is a womanizer with not a gay hair on his head but he finds nothing wrong in bedding a man he has just met... please...

really loved the wacky characters, the narrative voice, the style! the "love story" was a bit weird but overall it came together to make a wonderful, crazy story. i wish there was more of it!

Not much relationship development between the MCs, unless you project their past relationship on their new reincarnated one. The straight MC had no issues with his fated mate being a gay man and then having sex with him. The ending wasn't even HFN.

Entertaining short story. Light hearted, fun banter, a little odd ball at times, but the "heart"was there and it had a nice touch with the "love song". Easy read, finishes on a HFN.

This is a great story, but not such a great romance. I think for it to be a great romance the ending would need to be different, it needs at least a glimpse of what the HEA will look like.

I seem to keep on coming back to this short story, and damn if it's short, too short in fact it always leave me craving for more. There's not a lot romance, there's a hint of it. There's sexual tension and intercourse but all is mostly fantasy and dreams and man I need another one! Would you care to do another story, oh! Lovely Queen of the Sweetness.

Liked this short two for the price of 1 read. A fun read. Kentucky and reed, bear and ember , loved them all. Read if you haven't , great for a filler in between longer more intense reads
