Phil Harper has wasted five years of his life in a relationship that was going nowhere thanks to misplaced guilt, sympathy and pity. But the longer the failing relationship went on, the faster he saw his chances of being with the one he really wanted slipping away.

Sophia Mansfield has hidden her attraction to Phil Harper for five long years. After all, he’s her best friend’s brother—talk about awkward. Besides, she’s had to sit back and watch his relationship with another woman flourish while she turns away one man after another because no one seems to measure up.

Then suddenly he’s single, and no one knows the reason why. Not that she cares, but now is her chance. She’s waited long enough, so she makes a plan, and it’s a good one. Accepting her long awaited partnership and moving closer to him was the perfect start. Only one night—and a few too many drinks—ruins her chance.

Can Sophia and Phil find their way around it all? Or will Phil’s previous disastrous relationship and insecurities threaten everything she has waited so long for?

This is a classic case of "it's not you, it's me." This book wasn't terrible, but I didn't enjoy it at all. It's a story about two people who are just trying to find someone to love forever. They're both looking for "the one" and while I don't believe in that concept, I do find it's sweet, if not a little unrealistic. Of course I'm not opposed to the MCs wanting to find their forever someone. Certainly, I've found that person for me and would wish everyone (fictional or real) to find that person for themselves.

However, do I want to read about two people trying to find their way to each other, and the journey of mistakes they made in the interim? The answer is an emphatic "nah". No thanks to a boring story. No thanks to a weak H, who I just really couldn't stand. His story was very realistic and I could see if happening to a nice guy IRL, but he was not a compelling character. The fact that he let his previous relationship for five years (five years, people!) even though he knew he would never commit to her was not cool. I mean, I know she was sort of crazy, but she didn't deserve that. He needed to grow a pair and just break it off, cold turkey, you know, without letting the relationship drag on for five years.

No thanks for an h, who is so rigidly living her life exactly the opposite of her supposedly messed up parents, that she can't see how everyone's messed up in one way or another. This story just rubbed me the wrong way on so many levels, I barely finished it. Now the question is, do I continue on with this series? Decisions, decisions.

What I liked:
1) The alternating, dual povs, written in the third person.
2) A non-alpha H. I guess it went hand in hand with the fact that he was sort of a wuss, but I do like the fact that he didn't try to dominate the h.

What I didn't like:
1) Boring story. It felt really long.
2) Annoying h.
3) Weak H. And the moment he blamed his ex-girlfriend for their relationship dragging on as long as it did, that was it for me. He couldn't redeem himself from that. It's like he wasn't a part of the relationship or something. What crap.

Wimp!

This review will have spoilers.....don't read if you don't want to know about this book.

The hero Phil is the biggest wimp ever. He stayed with his GF for 5 years, that's 4 years too long. No, he did not cheat but he knew after a year that he didn't see forever with her. Phil's over thirty years old but seriously my nineteen year old son can deal with girls better than this grown man.
The writing is very dry. I'm not emotional while reading this series....nothingness.

A woman wanting a man to love her for looks, intelligence, inner self and not from where she came from.
She had come across someone, five years ago, that she felt attracted to, but he was in a relationship, and she wasn't one for taking another woman's man.
Now, they are both single, and living in the same town. Now, they can see if they really meant to be.

Over thinking at its best

Not only do we weave a tangled web when we deceive but also when we over think a situation, as the characters n this story did continually. It all made for an enjoyable trip, however.

A roller coaster, with the piranha former girlfriend and the wary current girlfriend and the sorta shy guy in the middle. Phil Harper was always the "taken" one and it is a pleasant surprise for his family to see him with Sophia instead.

Crazy ex

One crazy ex sure can cause enough problems! I liked the bond between all the characters the solid friendship and the obvious love. The crazy ex is another thing! Crazy ex did add some humor!

All of me

A very good romance. The ex did not want to move on. When you are not making a person and they fine someone else, move on.

If you are looking for a clean book, this is not it. However, the story was enjoyable. I really didn't see why he spent five years putting up with Linda though.

Good read

I enjoyed this story even if it was very predictable, including the psychotic ex. But a good story line, and pleasant characters

Loved this book. Such a sweet story about love and working through things like mature adults. It was refreshing to read about a strong heroine who knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. Phil was an absolute sweetheart. And though he might have been a pushover in the past, he realized in order to get the girl, he had to put his foot down. I can't wait to read the next in this series!

Phil and Sofia

This was maybe my least favorite and the tamest book of both of these two series of books so far. Ms. Ann has a unique story telling talent that keeps you involved in each story, as if you were one of the characters. Phil was a bit wishy washy and Sophia had parent issues. But all in all a good book.

Absolutely amazing read the second time around!

I absolutely loved this book! Phil and Sophia appear to be total opposites but yet they are perfect for each other. Amazing book watching them finally give into the attraction and see if they can be a couple after wanting each other for years. LOVE this book! Can't wait for Alec's book.

I have read all of the books in the two series by Natalie Ann and enjoyed them all. Her characters are normal flawed people who are not really looking for love, when love finds them. I look forward to reading the last two books when they are published.

Good book

This was a good book to read. It had sad and sweet moments. I liked the characters. I liked it when he said: “Even when you’re crying, you’re beautiful to me—runny nose and all.”

Book 2.

Oh my gosh. An adult book. Not a sex book but one about people acting like adults! I loved it. The "drama" was down played because the other person chose not to edge it on. Can you imagine? I love this author's concept of a storyline.
