Justin Holleman, the Duke of Dinnisfree, is used to being wanted—in bed, for missions, and even dead. He’s protected his country more times than he can remember, gaining enemies along the way, but he failed to defend himself from the past that hardened his heart. Instead, he became an expert at shutting people out. Yet now, in order to save the king, Justin needs to let go of his old ways and let someone closer to him than ever before. He approaches the mission with his classic cold calculation, but his fiery new ally upends his ordered world and entices him at every turn. Suddenly he’s in danger of compromising his assignment and losing his heart, two things the rogue swore never to do.

Desperate to protect her parents from poverty, among other things, Miss Arabella Carthright unwittingly becomes a pawn in a dangerous political battle when she agrees to aid an enigmatic stranger. Having learned long ago to count only on herself, she’s surprised when time and again the duke actually aids her. But when his true assignment becomes clear, Arabella realizes the man she’s come to care for poses the greatest threat to those she loves.

As Justin and Arabella face their feelings and their web of deception falls away, they must decide how high a price they are willing to pay for love and loyalty.

Intrigue and romance with a hot Regency Era duke who doubles as a James Bond in hessian boots: that's what you'll find in this tale of a brooding nobleman who operates part time as Prinny's ( Prince Regent ) personal special agent/spy. Now, I had to suspend my disbelief in order to enjoy this novel because there were a couple things ( among others ) that challenged my logic and these were:

1. A Duke with no sons and no brothers would hardly be working ( even part time ) as Prinny's special 007. But, maybe I'm wrong because Prinny wouldn't trust just any old commoner or government employee with his personal secrets.

2. What are the chances that a Regency Era English duke would have a name like Justin Holleman ? I refer specifically to the Duke of Dinnisfree's surname "Holleman". Now, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a Jewish name ? I've never heard of an old English ducal dynasty having a Jewish surname, but again maybe I'm wrong. And my observation isn't based on any anti-Jewish sentiment. I need to clear that up immediately. I just noted it because I'm naturally curious. I'm Catholic but not anti-Semitic.

Ok so now that we've dealt with my suspended beliefs, shall we move onto the nitty gritty of this lovely romance novel ?

The novel's heroine Arabella, is a hardworking seamstress who supports her adopted parents. Her adopted dad is paralyzed and cannot work and his wife is in a private mental institution. Arabella doesn't know, until the end of the novel, that she's really the biological child of Prinny's wife Caroline. That lady had had an affair with a man called George Canning, a Tory politician. Prinny, Caroline, George Canning, Lady Conyngham, Lords Howick and Brougham are all real historical figures in this fictional adaptation. Arabella also has a twin brother called Jude ( aka Judas Iscariot aka Phineas ) about whom she doesn't know. The story opens up with poor Arabella trying to bargain with a nasty old bitch called Mrs. Henderson. That shrewish hag is the manager of the private asylum where Arabella's adopted mother is hospitalized. The hag tells Arabella that her mom will be sent to Bedlam ( aka St. Bethlehem's Asylum ) if the outstanding fees owed are not paid. Arabella leaves her gold ring as collateral and rushes off to deliver some gowns she has sewn for Lady Conyngham.

Lady C is a married countess who is also Prinny's penis polisher/mistress. She's a vile, nasty, evil, jealous and disgusting witch of a woman. When the heroine arrives, Lady C has just finished polishing her other lover's penis. That guy just happens to be Arabella's twin brother Jude and it appears that he services Lady C like a gigolo since Prinny is too fat and gross to satisfy her. Jude knows that Arabella is his sister so he is kind and very complimentary to her. This sets off Lady C, who throws a jealous bitch tantrum and punishes Arabella by refusing to pay for all the gowns. Lady C is also extra spiteful because she tells the heroine that she intends to send a letter to her employer asking that Arabella be dismissed from her job. I just wanted somebody to take a bunch of really hot peppers and stuff 'em up in Lady C's nasty whore vagina for being mean to poor Arabella ! Lady C is dressed in a see through white gown with her all her pubic hair and boobs on display while she's talking yet she even has the audacity to tell the heroine that her gown is tarty. That's why I'm making such distasteful comments about that hag. Arabella's gown is old and a little tight because the girl cannot afford to make new gowns, but this malicious twatbitch is so jealous and spiteful that she lacks the compassion to comprehend that.

Moving on...

Jude ends up persuading Arabella to take a jewellery box that Lady C has thrown out while having her temper tantrum. Lady C also kicks out an artist who had come to deliver her portrait. The twatbitch is annoyed because the guy had painted the portrait to reveal her realistic big, bumpy nose. This guy is important because he will become inadvertently embroiled in the story line. Arabella is then persuaded by Jude, to offer her services at Madame's Sullyard's brothel. Arabella doesn't want to become a prostitute but she has no other means of earning money to pay the asylum fees for her mother and to pay for her father's daily nurse. Jude also inveigles Arabella into meeting George Canning, who is pretending to be an interested buyer in Lady C's jewellery box. Canning, who is a cold bastard to his twin children, only wants to retrieve some love letters that Prinny has written to Lady C. Canning, Lords Brougham and Howick are all involved with trying to prove that Prinny is an adulterer since they're fans of his wife Caroline. Prinny has told the hero, Justin, that he needs to do his secret service spy duty and acquire those same letters. Arabella ends up caught in the middle of this intrigue.

I won't delve into more specific details because it's too much to highlight and it will spoil all the fun for future readers. But trust me: there's a lot of stuff happening in this novel ! The drama intensifies when the MC's meet and Justin ends up saving Arabella from a life of prostitution. He is so gallant like her own knight in tight breeches ! Justin also helps her by uncovering the corruption at the asylum, where the wicked Mrs. Henderson has been drugging all patients with opium while defrauding their relatives with fake extra fees. The H ensures that Mrs. H and her husband are imprisoned and her lecherous son Stewart is given a well deserved thrashing for all the vile things he has been doing to the female patients. Justin takes care of Arabella's father's health care as well, after the older man collapses and has a mini stroke. All of this happens while Jude is threatening Arabella and blackmailing her: he wants Lady C's letters too. The heroine is pulled upon from all sides by these individuals who have differing agendas and I felt so sorry for her, because all she wants is to be happy.

Throughout all this intrigue and mystery, the romance between the MC's continue to grow. Arabella finds herself falling in love with the dashing duke who has saved her and her parents Meanwhile, he wants to protect and comfort her from all the danger that surrounds them. They make love eventually but they don't have time to bask in the afterglow because Justin's friend, the Marquess of Davenport ( and the H from Dancing With A Devil ) turns up with revelations about Arabella that shock the H. There's quite a bit of distrust, angst and more spying that ensue as everyone rushes to locate the missing letters. Arabella ends up getting shot by her brother Jude and she almost dies. Everybody realizes that Jude's insane and so he's placed in the revamped private asylum while the MC's move on with their lives by getting married. They end up having a beautiful baby son too ! I liked this story a lot, because of the mystery, intrigue, the fascinating minor characters and the wonderful H and heroine.

Fun Story Good narration by Tim Campbell (audible review)

I enjoyed this story, it was really good. Fast paced not full of repetitive filler nonsense. The heroine Arabella was great, straight forward and to the point. I liked Justin too, he was smart, sexy and a spy. These two had some good chemistry together, there was a nicely written sex scene, not erotica not rated G.

The story line and plot were good, it all flowed very well. I always love a historical romance spy book.
There is lots of dialogue throughout the entire book. It wasn't full of angst or misunderstandings either, such a breath of fresh air when that happens.

As for the narration. It was very good. The women sound like women and the men sound sexy. Everyone gets their own voice, and Tim Campbell has a nice reading voice.

Once again I am blown away by Julie Johnstone and her innate ability to suck the reader into her world and never let go!

In the latest A WHISPER OF SCANDAL NOVEL, THE DANGEROUS DUKE OF DINNISFREE, we have the duke, Justin Holleman, who has been in service to the crown for some time now. His oath to protect the crown above all else keeps him focused, and his complacency in all other areas of his life, leaves him unable to form relationships beyond the surface. Now, the Prince Regent has given Justin the task of retrieving love letters that Prinny sent to his mistress, which if were made public, would cause trouble for the prince's game of divorcing his wife. His loyalty to his prince comes at a cost.

Miss Arabella Carthright is frantic over her inability to pay for her mother's stay at the Stanhope Home for the Mentally Impaired. The young miss spends her time crafting gowns for the ton. Even though things are grim for Arabella, the gowns she has made for the wealthy Lady Conyngham should render enough coin for the home. Unfortunately when Arabella arrives, Lady Conyngham is in a tizzy over something and takes her bad mood out on the seamstress. Lady Conyngham refuses the gowns and furthermore promises to tell Arabella's boss about the issue, which will undoubtedly leave Arabella without a job. Not only is Arabella's mother in the home, but her father is recovering from a stroke and cannot help in the day to day either. Everything is on poo Arabella's shoulders.

When Arabella exits Lady Conyngham's rooms, she is met by a mysterious man who offers to help her gain coin. Desperation makes Arabella do things she would never have though possible before, thus embroiling her in danger as well as trouble. When Justin meets Miss Carthright feelings emerge that he tries to hide deep down, but her tenacity and her beauty cause his emotions to rise for this troubled woman. The more involved the duke and the miss become, the more dangerous and exciting things morph into and the emotions that rise between Justin and Arabella could lead to demise or ecstasy. Which will actually overrule?

THE DANGEROUS DUKE OF DINNISFREE is a fast-paced, well written tale of intrigue as well as romance. Ms. Johnstone is so savvy at merging the two that she has earned a top spot on my favorite author list. I feel Arabella's sorrow and desperation, her need to make sure her family survives. Justin's past has so much to do with his present stance on life, but it is so fascinating to watch his progression from the seemingly cold man of duty, to a man who would do anything for the woman he ultimately loves. Two thumbs up for this fifth tale in A WHISPER OF SCANDAL series by the very talented Julie Johnstone.

I choose this historical romance novel because of it’s enticing cover and enchanting synopsis. I was curious to find out more about Duke Justin and Arabella Cartwright. Julie Johnstone has taken two unlikely characters that would never have met and brought them together under certain life circumstances. I found it highly entertaining to watch as the two bickered and flirted openly with one another. The way fate has pushed them together to solve what was one issue for each of them turned out to be a chain of events that all link closely together. The Dangerous Duke of Dinnisfree is indeed just that. A most dangerous Duke who has the power to change Arabella’s life as she knows it. Maybe, she will end up changing his too.

The Dangerous Duke of Dinnisfree by Julie Johnstone is a remarkable romance that readers will instantly love after the first page. I couldn’t put the book down and within a short time, I finsihed reading the entire story. A dangerous yet most adventurous novel I have ever read. An innocent young beauty doing all that she can to save her family from ruin even risking her body to help her mother out. Then there’s the Duke who is all business and no nonsense. But after meeting Arabella, he finds that she’s the most intriguing woman he’s ever meet, and he wants her more than he’s ever wanted any woman. Can they trust one another to save each other and those they care about before it’s too late? Or will the Duke end of loosing Arabella before he has time to decide how he feels about her?

Readers will fall in love with both characters and their one mission soon turns to many that are linked to one another. They both will learn a shocking truth and their lives will forever be changed. Juile Johnstone has beautifully woven together an unforgettable romance that will continue to lure readers into its plot. Danger, suspense, and the firery heat will keep readers up reading into the night. Overall, I highly recommend this spectacular novel and rate it a five out of five stars.

London - 1820

Miss Arabella Carthright works as a seamstress. Although she was adopted, her parents have always shown her much love. Sadly, her mother is in a mental hospital and her father is confined to a wheelchair following a stroke. Arabella is doing all she can to try and make enough money to provide care for her mother and cover someone to be with her father while she is working, in addition to paying for their food and rent. She has just made four dresses for Lady Conyngham, rumored to be the mistress of King George IV, a.k.a., Prinny. When Arabella arrives with the dresses, the woman is throwing a temper tantrum and haughtily tells Arabella that the dresses arenot what she wants and refuses to pay for them. In anger, she also kicks a beautiful jewelry box encrusted with expensive jewels across the room demanding that someone remove it from her sight. A man who was visiting the Lady encourages Arabella to take the box and sell it. He says he fells sorry for her and she can get some money if she sells it. Desperate for money, she agrees.

A little background on this story. Queen Caroline is seeking a divorce from Prinny and has spies watching him to prove adultery. However, Prinny is a man who enjoys his drink and has stupidly sent love letters to Lady Conyngham who is holding them to use as blackmail. Prinny’s trusty friend, Justin, the Duke of Dinnisfree, has been tasked with getting the letters back. Oh, but others know about the letters and the race is on to see who can get them. It turns out that they have been hidden in the bottom of the jewelry box and it is known that Arabella has it.

Without giving away any spoilers, let me add that we have innocent Arabella desperately in need of money to support her parents and Justin intent on getting those letters returned to Prinny. The story is sweet, sexy, suspenseful and one you do not want to miss.

Once again, the author, Julie Johnstone, has written a well-researched novel with a tremendous plot. Enjoy!

Justin AKA James Bond is a spy for Prinny. He is like a male Olivia Pope – he puts out the fires of the overindulged Prince. His latest mission brings him in contact with the lovely Arabella. To say that she has a difficult life is an understatement. Arabella’s life is very typical of the average Londoner. She has finally reached low enough to have to self her body when fate intervenes.
What was great about the book was how the class divide was explored. Arabella was from the working poor of London and Justin is a Duke. Their world’s should never have crossed in this time and age. But Justin isn’t like other Duke’s and his work for the crown has him spending more time in the underbellies of London streets than the gilded halls of Buckingham Palace as a courtier.
The mystery of the letters and the Queen was great! I found the plot very well paced and I knew that I was hooked when I was frantically trying to figure out what was going to happen. Justin’s role in the political arena was just as interesting and I found it engaging how he was able to work at the highest levels of Parliament and the mean streets with the same efficacy.
The evolution of Justin and Arabella was quite extensive throughout the story. Justin’s journey was one of an emotional nature. Always a kind man, he became Arabella’s protector and knight. It made me fall more in love with him as he took on Arabella’s problems as his own and solved them. Arabella was a pawn in Justin’s and others game in this book, but she came out the winner in the end. I really adored how she trusted Justin and believed in him enough to let him help her. Arabella’s flight drove home how scary it would have been to live in that time period with no social security or safety nets.
A great book filled with adventure, love and enjoyable characters. I found the story of the dangerous Duke to be a wonderful journey that made me believe in the kindness of humanity.

#5 in the heart pounding "A Whisper of Scandal", but can be read as a stand alone.

Fast paced, adventure filled with engaging and mesmerizing characters. The storyline is passionate, compelling, and intriguing. It has secrets, passion, a bit of mystery, add in some suspense, romance and what a story!

Once again, Ms. Johnstone has written a story that is spellbinding, intriguing and simply mesmerizing! Fans of Historical Romance will be astounded, and thrilled as they turn from page to page. I personally, never tire of Ms. Johnstone's electrifying tales of Victorian Romance. She brings the story to life through the pages of a book! A must read! Highly recommended for fans of Historical Romance, Suspense and mystery. Another awe-inspiring tale!

This book is one you that can't put down. I think Julie did a great job on the characters and the plot. The Duke of Dinnisfree is the hero you fall in love with quickly. Cold hearted on the outside, but warm on the inside. Arebella is the tough heroine that is exactly what it takes to melt Justin's heart.

King VS Queen- which side will win? People aren't who they seem to be and others play parts they don't know they are playing. There is a lot of insanity and lies. Big secrets and discoveries unfold. The story had great characters and is told well. Good read!

This is my third Julie Johnstone book I've read and this would be my favorite so far. I love stories with spies, dukes and worthy heroines. I thought Justin a swoon worthy hero who's trying to protect his heart and position with the King, and Arabella a sweet, enduring Heroine who's got a lot on her mind trying to take care of her aging parents and all the money problems. Thankfully I loved them both.

It was even better with the true history of the "Prinny" and the Queen and their problems. A very enjoyable read, just when I was about to give up on the author!

I was provided with a copy of The Dangerous Duke of Dinnisfree in exchange for an honest review and I loved it! I can honestly say that it had me enthralled and I didn’t want to put it down! This story begins with a woman named Arabella trying to figure out how she is going to pay for her mother’s hospitalization. Her mother becomes mentally ill after the loss of Daniel, her biological son. After placement into the medical home, the warden begins to threaten Arabella that she will transfer her mother to a terrible facility if her payments are not made by the following Monday. With Arabella struggling to make ends meet, her seamstress work for a very fortunate woman will have to be her saving grace. With finding out that Lady Cunnyngham is not pleased at all by her work, even though it is exactly what she ordered, so she throws a tantrum that has absolutely nothing to do with Arabella. After being forced to leave the woman’s bedchamber with the dresses and her pride diminished, she is given an ultimatum by a man who isn’t who he appears to be. With so many things spiraling down on Arabella, she is desperate to get the money for her mother as well as feed her and her father. This new character named Jude gives her hope when he tells her about a job that involves seducing a man at the local brothel. Arabella, being very desperate must decide what she holds most dear and what she is willing to sacrifice in the name of family. Is there any hope left?

My favorite characters are Arabella, Jude and Justin. Arabella is such a wonderful character and her bravery is inspirational. She is pure of heart and the love that she has for her family, the only family that she has ever known, is beautiful and truly touching. After her father’s illness and her mother being placed into the hospital, she never gives up hope. Her continuance for taking care of both of them is astounding and it really captivated my attention. Jude is just so unpredictable! He is a favorite character of mine because his presence and significance in this story did take me by complete surprise. He is cunning, friendly, affectionate and hospitable—until her plans start unraveling before him. And then, there is Justin. He is the one person who really made the story fascinating! As the king’s spy, he has several skills sets that seem to all fail him upon meeting Arabella. His constant need to stay cold and numb to emotion becomes quite a challenge in which no woman has ever been able to hold over him. This feat makes him more curious, but he is leery of exposing too much for fear of his trust being misguided. Can he really trust Arabella, when everyone around him seems to have an ulterior motive? One of the most prevalent thoughts troubling him finally presents itself, who should he really be holding his allegiance to—the King or the Queen?

In my overall opinion, I would highly recommend this fifth installment of A Whisper of Scandal series to anyone who enjoys historical romance. This is such a beautiful story and it held my interest throughout the entire read. I love reading about the historical context, which is credible. The originality of the story is wonderful and fascinating as is the creativity and character development. Not only are the characters well developed, but the author does a superb job of accurately linking everyone to each other during the story. I found that the element of mystery really pulled me in as well. I was so impressed by this author’s writing style and the quick pace of the story, that I downloaded the first of the series and hope to read it next month.

Julie Johnstone has once again created one of those awesome historical romance stories that is incredibly hard to set down. The Dangerous Duke of Dinnisfree is full of danger, drama, intrigue, secrets, spies, romance, with large dose of royal scandal. What more could a girl ask for in a story. I can't think of a thing except a few more hours in the day so that I could have read this book even faster.

Arabella Carthright is a sweet, kind hearted young lady with a plate full of problems. Her father has medical issues, her mother has had a break down and is in an expensive institution, and Arabella needs an income. This poor young lady has her hands full and is in desperate need of helping hand and maybe a friend to hear her troubles. I found an instant bond with Arabella. I instantly admired her for her courage and strength to face what she think she has to do to save her parents.

Justin Holleman, the Duke of Dinnisfree is a handsome playboy with a dangerous career and strong alliances that he must protect. Justin sets out to find answers for the King and ends up finding more questions, a couple of HUGE secrets, and a whole lot of danger.

When Justin's mission puts him in the same path as Arabella things change. Justin has never felt the feelings that surface when he is with Arabella. I enjoyed watching these two discover each other and work together reveal secrets that could cause a huge impact to many.

Justin won my heart over when he went all out to help Arabella with a few major problems. He just might be the Knight she's needs riding to her rescue. I loved that he didn't even pause when he discovers he just might be able to help Arabella with one of her huge problems. I loved that he rode in, cleaned up the trash, and started to make things better.

Overall this is one awesome romance story with sweet moments, a few breath taking moments of dangers, hidden secrets that are slowly revealed, and a possible royal scandal. Julie Johnstone has written creative characters with the perfect mix charm, loyalty, chemistry, and bravery to make this storyline completely captivating. Ms. Johnstone grabbed my attention on page one and kept me completely engaged all the way to the last page.

This is part of the Whisper of Scandal series but will stand alone just fine. So don't worry if you haven't read the previous awesome books in this series. You will be fine to start here and then go grab up the rest of the series so that you may devour those as well.

I was given the opportunity to read this great story so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on The Dangerous Duke of Dinnisfree.

What a wonderful read; strong, deep characters, twists and turns, intrigue, kidnapping, shootings and threats all beautifully interwoven with love, second chances and rescues.

Justin, the Duke of Dinnisfree has turned off his emotions and refuses to engage in society unless it is in the service of the king. A King he is finding it harder and harder to like, let alone respect. He has had no role models in his life for love and compassion, but is always rescuing and providing for those that are abused and taken advantage of. He is not one to suffer fools lightly.

Arabella Carthright is a seamstress trying desperately to provide for herself and her parents, yet they are flirting with destitution and lead her to believe she is out of options. She has come to know she can only depend on herself, others find ways to disappoint and/or fail her. She is strong and smart and finds it difficult to trust anyone. Like Justin she has a nurturing side that wants and needs to take care of and even fix others in need.

Unwittingly Arabella is drawn into intrigue involving the king and queen, their possible divorce and potential scandal Prinny always seems to find. As Arabella is manipulated she meets Justin expecting one thing and finding protection unlike what she had planned. While Justine tries to protect Arabella his instincts say she is innocent, but his spy side is screaming CAUTION! They are a very good team, they just have to get out of their own way and embrace trust.

In THE DANGEROUS DUKE OF DINNISFREE, Ms. Johnstone has created characters that I instantly identified with and wanting them to succeed. The pace of the conversations and the back story kept me turning pages and I was sad to see the story end. Her villains were intricate and well thought out leaving a sour taste after each encounter and cheering when they get their comeuppance. The secondary characters brought humor and lightness to Justin’s character that was refreshing and left you knowing that he DID have people that cared in his life, he just needed to accept that level of interaction. The twists and turns Ms Johnstone wove into Justin and Arabella’s HEA brought surprises and aha moments to the story. This is book 5 in the Whisper of Scandal series, but can be read alone, however, you will find yourself wanting to go back and catch up with the scandals.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Justine Holleman Duke of Dinnisfree and Spy for Prinny King of England. The story takes place when Prinny was trying to divorce his wife Queen Caroline on charges of adultery. Well we know how that goes. Prinny is the one committing adultery and his letters to his mistress plus a beautiful emerald necklace belonging to the Queen have gone missing. Believed to be stolen. Justine is called in to find the letters and the necklace.

Arabella Carthright is a seamstress she gets caught up in the missing box with a emerald necklace and letters, when she delivers gowns she has made for the Kings mistress. At first I didn't like Arabella at all. I thought her to naïve. She really was gullible for a 21 year old women. The character would have been served better if written as an 18 year old. Arabella's adoptive mother is in Stanhope Home for the mentally impaired. Which turns out to be a horrible place that abuses it female patience and gets them hooked on drugs. She also, takes care of her adoptive father who has had a stroke. She is the caretaker and financial provider for her adoptive parents. So I began to like her for that. Arabella and Justine meet and he becomes very protective of her. Justine doesn't know of Arabella's involvement of the missing box with the letters and the necklace. He sets everything to rights in Arabella's life, which was a bit odd for a Duke. He had a troubled childhood himself, unloved and abandon by his mother and a stern coldhearted father.

Queen Caroline is rumored to have had a child with her lover. So the plot thickens. The story is full of twist and turns and has its share of surprises interwoven in the storyline. Its has a steady pace not slow and not fast. Well written characters and plot line. I really enjoyed The Dangerous Duke of Dinnisfree!!

Arabella Carthright is desperate. With her father in a wheelchair and her mother in a respectable home for mental illness, the family financial situation rests in her hands. Dealt a severe blow, she doesn't know how she'll keep the roof over her and her father's head and her mother from being transferred to Bedlam until a kind gesture from a veritable stranger provides her with a rather undesirable but necessary solution to her problems. Unfortunately, not all is as straightforward as it seems but she has no choice but to see it through.

As the Duke of Dinnisfree, Justin Holleman has the power and privilege that being one of the highest ranking members of the aristocracy can afford him but more than that, he also has the king's ear. As his most trusted confidant, Justin also has secrets, ones that he will die to protect as he also secretly fights to protect King and Country. But someone is out to reveal those secrets and uses Arabella to do it. Justin is suspicious and knows he should keep her at arms length but cannot deny his attraction to her or hers for him. He now questions many things in his life, the most important being will he sacrifice a once in a lifetime love for the duty he's been sworn to uphold.

I loved this story and wish I could do 4.5 stars. I would've given it 5 stars but felt that a few scenes could've been expanded on just a tad bit to build the intrigue. The attraction between the H/h is believable as is the situation all the characters find themselves in. There was a twist I did not see coming but very plausible in light of the political backdrop of the story. Ms. Johnstone is a writer who never disappoints and is one of my favorite go-to authors.

I received an ARC of this novel for an honest review.

Wonderful read..

I wasn’t looking for anything all that good with this book but I really, really enjoyed it. I like stories where the hero is cold and unfeeling because of the way he was raised by a cold and ruthless father, THEN meets the heroine and slowly becomes confused over his feelings for her. And, all the while, having spies and traitorous members of the ton running amuck.

I liked Arabella and Justin a lot. One reviewer said it was too "depressing" for her, but even though I found it sad because of Arabella’s family problems I didn’t find it “depressing” because I knew our fearless hero would come to her rescue, and boy, did he. Justin was awesome. Jude, on the other hand, was more than a little weird , which was understandable considering how and where he was raised. The author even made the king, Prinny, disgusting. BUT Davenport and Audrey were great secondary characters. And the secret about Arabella was amazing.

I can honestly say I did not skip one page in this book, that’s how much I enjoyed it. A romance with something more than 300 or 400 pages of angst and misunderstandings going on. It’s getting nearly impossible for me to read a silly nothing-but romance anymore.

There really wasn’t any sexual tension in this story but the wanting and the desire was simply wonderful. There was no talk of an erection or turgid nipples but what was written was so much better. I enjoyed this book immensely.

There was only a little bit of swearing but not enough to be bothersome to all those who don’t like bad words.

As to the narrator: He did a great job. He could do better with the female voices and do a little better with emotions but he has such a wonderful voice you can overlook everything else. And the males have such sexy voices, too.

I was given an Arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A dangerous Duke indeed, Justin is not just a spy but he holds all his feelings inside. He is there for those who need him as long as he doesn't have to show any emotions. He will practically give you the shirt off his back, just as long as you don't thank him profusely. So what was he thinking when he met Arabella.? While he thinks she is a courtesan, and a novice at that, he thinks that he must protect her from herself, but little does he know the trouble she is in.
Arabella is a very sweet and strong hearted woman, she will do what she must to take care of her family, even if it means selling herself. When she meets Jude, she feels something for him but is not quite sure what that feeling is. Jude tells is girlfriend she reminds him of his sister. While Arabella trust that Jude will not hurt her, she places her trust in Justin. Which is probably a good idea.
The trouble Arabella is in is so much bigger than she thought. Justin has his hands full just trying to protect her.
The mystery and suspense over a box given to the King's mistress containing love letters brings danger to both with a very surprising ending. An awesome story by an awesome author. Highly recommend to anyone who loves historical romance with mystery and suspense.

WOW! Julie Johnstone does it again!!! The twists & turns in the Dangerous Duke of Dinnisfree will leave you completely amazed!
Doing whatever she can to keep her mother safe & out of Bedlam while caring for her invalid Father, Arabella relies on no one but herself & will attempt any means to do so. Due to circumstances beyond her control she is thrust into intrigue, royal secrets & the arms of the Duke of Dinnisfree.
Justin Holleman, the Duke of Dinnisfree learned at an early age to protect his heart. As a spy for the King denying any emotion has served him well. That is until the King assigns him to retrieve some property of his from his latest mistress – things that could destroy the King & be devastating to the welfare of England. This mission throws him into the arms of a very delightful Arabella Cartwright.
Secrets, twists, things you won’t see coming make this a 10 star read. Julie Johnstone is a longtime favorite & continues to be so! You must grab this book for your reading enjoyment – BUT be prepared – it will take your heart pounding!!

The Dangerous Duke of Dinnisfree by Julie Johnstone
A Whisper of Scandal Series Book Five
Arabella Carthright is doing all she can for her family. She has work to pay for her mother's care in the mental hospital and care for her disabled father. When things take a turn for the worst...she must decide how far she'll give of herself for her family.

Justin Holleman, the Duke of Dinnisfree is much more than just a duke. He is on a mission and as always, the mission is his only focus. The innocent beauty he encounters cannot have him swaying from that mission. And thanks to being raised by a cold-hearted man, he can refrain. Can't he?

The couple from book three, Dancing with the Devil, are in this book as well. This had a great storyline and steady pace.

Julie Johnstone continues to deliver in her wonderful new book in the Whisper of A Scandal series. It was such a fun book to read...the beguiling characters and captivating story kept me riveted. I loved how the plot became more intriguing and suspenseful as more facts were revealed. The romance was nicely developed and the two main characters had a passionate connection that was believable. There were some very humorous laugh out loud moments which really takes any historical romance to the next level for me. I am eager for more from Julie Johnstone!

The Dangerous Duke Of Dinnisfree by Julie Johnstone is a fabulous read. This book is well written. Arabella and Justin's story is full of lovable characters, action, drama and spice. Ms Johnstone is quickly becoming one of my favorites in the historical romance section and I look forward to reading more from this talented author. The Dangerous Duke of Dinnisfree is book 5 in the A Whisper Of Scandal series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

This was so much fun to read. Betrayal, mystery, and still a love story. You felt for the heroine, wanted to be her or step in to protect her. The decisions that were made, weather good or bad. It is a great book and so worth reading. You take the time for us to know everyone. Even the smallest of character I felt understanding for.

The story was perfect, plot spot on and I would recommend it to everyone. Really great book and fun to read.

This was a fun refreshing book, the characters were well developed and engaging right from the first page. The storyline moved at a great pace, lots of little details to make the story real, develope the characters and their back story.
I so enjoyed the fact that there was no whining by the main female. She was strong, knew her mind and was working to make her life and families better.
So enjoyable to read a book where the characters are nice!

This is my new favorite Julie Johnstone book. It is very well written. It captured my attention from the very beginning and held it constant all the way through. Arabella is a strong heroine and a perfect match for the mouthwatering but distant Justin.I highly recommend this book by an author who never disappoints, Julie Johnstone.

I love JJ writing style. It's so easy to read. I always find with JJ novels that they are enjoyable to read, as this one was. I finish them quite fast too. Loved the characters, some we have previously met in earlier books. Great storyline, quite intense at times, and I adore the spying element of the plot.

Lots of intrigue

This story has quite a few plots and subplots going on. Initially you figure out the bad guys, but not their motivations. There is also a lot of historical political intrigue that underlies the story, which enhances it. Another good book from Ms. Johnstone.
