Crouch over an open fire near the Guatemalan border while Cecelia teaches the significance of making the small tortilla. Nancy Leigh Harless is an award winning poet and writer. Her works have been included in many anthologies including Cup of Comfort, The Healing Project, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and Travelers Tales, as well as many professional and literary journals
A BSN graduate of Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education in Spokane,Washington, Nancy received her advanced degree at University of Texas S Medical Center. A retired nurse practitioner, Nancy travels often -- usually off the well-paved road. Throughout her travels she has seen women struggle, sometimes against daunting odds. She has seen them nearly break under the weight of their own lives. She also has felt an abundance of spirit, of wisdom and of connection with these same women -- ordinary women who live with extraordinary grace.
What she has come to know for sure is the message of her first book, Womankind: Connection & Wisdom Around the World, a collection of stories gleaned from her international nursing experiences and travels."
It comes as no surprise, women have always needed each other. When my son Daniel died and my husband left our family, it was the women in my life who held me close and let me know I would survive. Womankind is a celebration of life--regardless of what we have or do not have.
Like Nancy Harless, I have lived in third world countries and found that the bonds women hold are valuable and withstand all that life flings. Nancy has let us in on the lives of many special women and we are richer because of her skill at sharing that feminine spirit with us.

This book for me was very thought-provoking, uplifting and inspiring. I even read one chapter about a Mexican woman making tortillas to my grandson and he loved it. I met a lady at the library and she asked if i had read it-I highly recommended it. The next time we met she told how much she enjoyed it and thanked me for my recommendation.
Touching stories of women from other cultures trying to survive despite overwhelming difficulties. This book helps us to understand their struggles and to admire their indomitable spirit, courage and grace.
Nancy's book makes one realize that the only thing holding us back from our dreams is ourselves. This book shares the stories of those women who make a difference in other people's lives by doing what they believe in.
