New York Times and USA Today Best Seller, L Wilder: “A good liar knows that the most efficient lie is always a truth that has had a key piece removed from it.” Carlos Riuzzafon
Maverick is a man scarred by a past full of deceit. He was forced to make a choice… a choice that now keeps him held in the darkness -- a prisoner of his own doubt and regret. The Satan’s Fury MC is the only thing he lives for. Being their new Sergeant of Arms gives him the distraction he desperately needs to endure. He knows that he will never forget, but with the help of his brothers, he’ll try to move forward.
Henley’s life was just as she’d always planned. All of her hard work and studying had finally paid off with a full-ride to college. Everything seemed to be right on track… until the night she witnesses a crime that puts her in danger. She suddenly finds herself needing the protection of Satan’s Fury and an enigmatic biker named Maverick.
Henley is immediately drawn to Maverick. The pain and anger in his eyes hides something. Despite the walls he keeps throwing up, she knows there is more to him than just the brooding biker who makes her body crave his touch. She will stop at nothing until she makes all of those walls come crashing down.
When the lies of Maverick’s past unfold, will Henley be the light that pulls him from the darkness?
Warning: This book is intended for readers 18 years or older due to bad language, violence, and explicit sex scenes. Maverick is a standalone romance, but you may be interested in reading Summer Storm, the prequel novella in this series.
So I am once again the odd man out. I. Did. Not. Like. This book. Ugh...I'm mad. I had been waiting for the release, was excited for all the 5* reviews, picked up the book and [image error]
I'm just going to get into what I did not like about the book. It mostly had to do with the heroine Henley. Her name is the only cool thing about her.
I could never relate to her. I found her lacking, immature, TSTL, soiled and ungrateful. Let's just go over her faults quickly:
1) investigates noises in the back of an ally after midnight. Jesus 2) sees a member of the Satan's Fury MC she has "partied with" her sister is "friends with" get murdered in cold blood and just stands there. Doesn't move. Run to I don't know her Car! Nope she stands there and gets caught witnessing the murder. Dumbass. 3) calls her sister, the sis doesn't answer but she does know this “Cassidy told me that the club didn’t do cops, but I didn’t know what else to do.” so she calls the cops. 4) cops don't do anything, next day strange men are at her school looking for her, she calls sister telling her what she saw. Gets escorted off campus with Satan's Fury men and she's “Yep… even though these men were here to save me from god-knows-what, I was walking down the hall smiling like a big dork.” Bitch, men are after you, to kill you!Why are you even thinking about the kids at school being jealous of you because you have "hot men" escorting you. Hello, people want you dead. Is it just me? Cause honestly, I'd be thinking of...I don't know, my life! Where I'm going live? Will I ever have a future. 5) the club tells her that her apartment was ransacked, she thinks oh it must just be a coincidence. 6) after she tells the President what went down, she feels she has done her job and can now go on her merry way and all is fine. 7) throws attitude for being stuck at the MC because the men she witnessed murdering someone do not know her. So if they don't know her she's good to go. Ugh! 8) her dumb two year old games with Maverick. He has major issues going on in his life and she want to do pranks and text stupid nonsense to his phone. 9) her love/hate relationship with Maverick. Didn't get it 10) goes against the club and almost dies. No sympathy here.
Ok now that I went on a rampage over Henley Hahahaha I'll explain what bugged me about the story.
So it starts off with Maverick explaining he was beat to shit by a crowbar over something his ex did. What did she do? They kept bring her up, the lies she told, the betrayal but honestly nothing was ever explained. The drama that goes down in the book I thought had to do with the ex and things would start to make sense. Yeah...Not so much. I'm hoping if I go back to the different series I'll get answers. If not than why even bring it up? The plot was predictable. I didn't understand how they both fell in love. Besides the pranks Henley played on Maverick they never talked or interacted with one another. The most they hung out together was riding in a car for 2 days but even then they didn't talk.
I liked Maverick, I really did but I wanted more to the story. I wanted to see the relationship build up into love. And I wanted more to happen with the drama. I'm apparently the only one thinking this way so don't judge the book off my review.

✫This is my first time reading something by this author✫
MY RATING: 5 MOODY BROODY STARS
This book surprised me on many levels, it wasn't dark at all which is what I tend to expect from the biker genre, but by no means did that stop me from loving this, I loved the two lead characters, the laughs, the drama, the story line kept me glued to my iPad throughout and I can't wait to read the next book in this series..An author I'll definitely be keeping an eye on..

MAVERICK
Easy to get lost in Mavericks history, life story, * love, betrayal, deceit, loss, an accident that changed the man he was and a son he never knew about, * these are the things that make up Maverick..
Making the hardest decision he's ever had to make by handing over his son (John Warren) to his ex's sister, knowing deep within his heart that her and her husband can give him a better life than he ever could..
HENLEY
Making a late night dash to a convenience store for food supplies then making it to her car close by she hears noises which she silently goes to investigate..
Maverick was a character who seemed to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders...always trying to do the right thing...the right thing for his club, the right thing for his loved ones and especially the right thing for his son JW. Always putting everyone's welfare before his own left him a hardened man full of anger and tired of lies, deceit and just wanting to keep himself busy protecting and serving his club. When he is charged with watching over the trusting but stubborn Henley after she sees one of his "brothers" murdered, it begins the end of his freeze out of life and love and he faces another huge challenge to maybe redeem himself. As Henley and Maverick grow closer and life seems to be on the right track again, another huge betrayal comes to light and what might have been a case of "doing the right thing" becomes something else all together. I really loved the start of this new biker series...Maverick intrigued me when I first met him in a previous book and was hoping we would get his story. This one is full of power packed exciting twists and turns and along with all the violent club business, there is plenty of sexy romance and emotional family drama. Great ending that made me happy as well.
***** 5 ***** "putting everyone before yourself takes a toll" stars
When we first met Maverick in the Devil Chasers Series he had been shocked to find out he had a child. He faced the hard decision of giving up his son so he could have a life safe from the dangers that lurked around with Mavericks life. Naturally Maverick has aome demons that he is facing everyday.
Henley is the typical straight A college student who pays more attention to her studies than having a social life. Final exam preparation can be very stressful and exhausting, Henley decides she needs a break and some snacks before studying some more. Henley sees something she was definitely not intended to see and now she must fight to stay hidden.
Maverick is in charge of making sure Henley is safe. Will he be able to keep her safe from the same life that caused him to give up his child? Will this danger bring Henley and Maverick to a happy ending or will this dangerous life suck them in and destroy them?
Maverick had to make the toughest decision of his life when choosing to give his son to his ex's sister and it changed him. He's become a broody asshole that just goes through the motions of life and everyday feels like a failure for giving his son up. He knows that the decision was the right one but it doesn't stop the feeling of being lost.
Then Henley comes into his life and things change. As the new Sergeant in Arms Maverick is tasked with protecting her and watching over her. Henley is a fun loving girl who can bring out a smile in anyone. And her newest project is to get the hardass biker to crack a smile once in awhile. But when enemies come forward and secrets are revealed, will they be able to survive it?
I really enjoyed this story and Maverick was one hell of an Alpha to read about. I loved that we got a lot of his backstory and how it affected him, which was evident by his brooding ways. He was a really complicated character that had many different sides and Henley was the perfect heroine to bring out his better half.
Henley was this funny, nice girl that was Maverick's complete opposite. I loved how she could take a bad situation and still find the good in it and not get scared or sad. The strength that she had made me like and admire her character and just further proved that her and Maverick belonged together.
There was some suspense thrown in with a rival club and it really pushed the story from being good to being great. I really liked how the suspense part didn't take away from the Henley and Maverick's relationship at all but actually pushed them together more.
Overall, this was a great way to start a series and I'm already looking forward to reading more about Satan's Fury and I'll definitely be going back to finish the Devil Chaser's series.
I can't believe, I finally got Maverick’s ride. I so wanted his story from the first moment, he showed up in Devil Chasers MC series. And even more so, when we were given snippets of his past.
The story starts gutting you. It's really heartbreaking to be in Maverick’s head and to 'see' his thoughts. The way he saw himself... At that moment, I really didn't know him. Yes, he showed up in DC series, but I really don't know the biker. What kind of man he is? What makes him tick? What makes him... 'him'? Those answers just going to be answered further into the story.
But no matter that, I didn't know him well, yet, I know he was a better man, a better father, than he gave credit for himself. Maverick deserved that light in his life. To make his days brighter. And to see Maverick to give it away, with his shattering heart... Well, it was tearful. My heart broke for him.
"This is a mistake. You're going to regret this for the rest of your life!"
And I though, will these words be the true in the future? But of course I didn't saw what's coming about all parenthood. That kinda a little blindsided me. You will see about what I'm talking about, when you read it.
The other ghost, that haunts Maverick is his ex, Hailey. Partly I can understand why he feels responsible, for what happened to her. That's part of being human, I guess. To feel responsible for another person's mistakes. Always thinking 'If I had didn't done that?' 'If I had done this?' And those 'what if' are always on your mind. Haunting you.
I personally, don't believe in this. At least not completely. Every person is responsible for his/her own life. You can advise, you can be there for them. But at the end, it's their choice to choose which path to go. And Hailey chosen. It was her choice to do what she did. It was wrong one. But it was hers and not Maverick’s. He did what he could in his power. He tried. He believed in her. But in life comes a time, when you need to stop. When you had enough. For your own good, you need to take another path. That's what Maverick did. And he shouldn't feel guilty over it. But like I say before, people always feels like they should have tried harder. Fought harder.
I so couldn't wait when Maverick would finally be free of all guilt. When he open a new leaf in his life. And finally see his silver lining.
And then we meet Henley. And soon after that shit hit the fan!
I don't know if I should talk about Henley or that 'shit hit the fan' moment and what goes after. Everything is so intense and unknown at the beginning. And that made me on my toes all the time, thinking who the fuck got a nerve to fuck with Satan's Fury?
I really can't describe Henley. She's having a little of everything. By that I mean...She's cute and smart and loyal. She can be funny, too. Even without trying. And that's makes it even more funny. Also Henley is a prankster. OMG, those moments. I laughed so much. Just wait for that treat.
I love the way she sees people and everything around her. I loved her view of Satan’s Fury. Yes, she knew they're dangerous. But they also is a big family. Which protects each other with any means necessary. And that's exactly what Henley needed. Protection.
I had to admit, in a way it was funny to see those two. Maverick and Haley are so different from each other. Day and night. Light and darkness. Maverick is always wearing a scowl on his face. And Hailey has inexhaustible source of brightness in her. Maverick grounds her, taking care of serious stuff. While Haley makes him playful to play with her.
Probably because of those differences about them, they're fitting so well together. Maverick needs light in his dark. To someone make him smile and make him wish to live again. Haley doing just exactly that. She shows him...Well, like she said herself:
"As far as I can tell you have a plenty to smile about, but you're focusing on the wrong things. You have to learn from your mistakes and let the past go. "
I think that sentence says it all. And I couldn't put it better.
About the story itself I can't express how wondrous it was. It was intense and thrilling. It was unique, that sometimes in dark situation, there was something light. Something that would make you smile. And for a moment makes you to forget, how serious the situation is.
I really really loved Maverick. And I can declare, that this story is my fave by Leslie. I so waiting for more of Satan’s Fury journey
This was a great, easy, SEXY MC read. I absolutely love Maverick's grumpy ass and I hope there are little updates in future books.
I knew this was a spin off from another series but I went into it wo reading the first. Although this book can be a stand alone there were people and events mentioned that I did wish I knew more about. I don't think i can now go backwards but I would recommend starting with the Devil's Chasers series first.
I am a huge fan of MC stories..period. They can tend to run together so anything unique is refreshing. The fact that we see maverick struggle with giving his son up for adoption made this an emotional read for me. I was worried how it would play into the story and it all really worked in the end.
My only complaint- while I loved the chemistry between Mav and Henley, I kind felt like one second he didn't want anything to do with her and then out of nowhere he wanted her worse than anything. They were scorching hot together and I was rooting them on the entire time, I just felt sort of whip-lashed. Overall I really enjoyed this book and will continue on to book 2. This has just enough drama, sex and 'feels' to keep the pages turning but not keep you in agony.
Whenever I see biker books I immediately want to add them to my TBR. I love a biker book and am a huge fan of SOA. I love them rough, gritty, and violent. That's just what I expect. I didn't get that with this one though. This book was a vanilla version of what I am use to in my biker reads. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't OMG awesome either.
Maverick was a broody guy and I liked him. But broody is basically every biker guy. Well, most of them. Anyways, when he is introduced he is pretty beat up and in the middle of making some hard decisions. There are some pretty messed up things that are revealed that come from this decision. But to say would give it away to anyone who is interested in reading this so I will leave it at that.
Henley was fun. I liked her playfulness with Maverick and how she went about trying to make him less broody. The way they came about knowing each other is because her older sister Cassidy works as the bartender at the biker club. She tries to get Henley to accompany her but it's not really Henley's scene. She's busy going to school and studying. But one night while her sister is working and she's hitting the books she decides to head out to a convenient store to buy some snacks and this is where she witnesses a murder. She obviously gets noticed by the killers and then of course needs the clubs protection. Maverick kind of plays the babysitter in this scenario and then low and behold love blossoms.
It was predictable and not as eye catching or exciting as I would have liked, but it was still a good read.
I enjoying reading MC books so when I came across Maverick, I just had to read it. I wasn't disappointed either because once I started reading his story I wasn't able to stop till the very end.
Maverick carries the weight of the world on his shoulders by doing what is best for everyone else regardless of how he feels. The best thing for him to do is to keep busy serving & protecting his club.
Henley,Cassidy sister who is a bartender for Satan's Fury, protects Henley when she sees a murder. The victim happens to be a member of the Satan's Fury and now it's Maverick' job to protect Henley.
This story brought out a lot of emotions in me. There was times were I was crying, angry, and plain out laughing. This was a great book to read and I look forward to to reading the next book the Leslie Wilder writes.
I received a complimentary copy in exchange for a honest review. Review by Melissa K for HEA Fanatics.
L. Wilder is one of my favorite authors. She is truly brilliant! This is the second book in the data Satan's Fury series. She done an amazing creating characters that are easy to fall in love, with a story line that had you not wanting to put the boon down! I was so happy to see a small part with the Devils Fury mc and to find out what happened with John Warren. I can not wait to see what she puts out next.
I read both books in this series today/tonight and really liked them a lot! They were both quick paced reads with an insta-love theme but they were just what I was looking for. Short, sexy and straight to the point. I am honestly not a big insta-love fan but sometimes, if the mood strikes, I really enjoy them. These 2 stories were just what I needed after a very long week:)
OH Maverick , you sexy, dark, brooding man. How I love thee. I loved you since you came into the picture in the Devil Chaser's books and now you have your very own book. * sigh*
I love Ms Wilder's MC books and this one is no different. She gives you all she has and all you look for in a book. Sexy, funny, dramatics , and this one was no different. You finally find out the answers to all the questions that you gathered in the DC MC book and then Summer Storm.
Henley , is a hoot. She is a strong , silly, nosy woman just trying to get a snack when all hell breaks loose. But good thing she has friends in high and low places. Maverick is her knight in shining cut and he makes sure he protects what is his. Even if it mean tanning her hid ...haha
This is a great book and I personally can't wait to read more and more from L. Wilder. I wonder who will be next ...Sunny? Big Mike?
L. Wilder is a master with her words. She always delivers with awesome writing, amazing characters, and a storyline that captivates you from beginning to end. With her latest story from the very first chapter I was transported into these characters lives, feeling their emotions, fighting their demons alongside them. Maverick is a man who made the ultimate sacrifice by doing something that had him drowning in a sea of regret. Until he meets Henley who is at the clubhouse because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The chemistry and the all out banter between these two are ridiculous, and it had me turning the pages so fast, before I knew it, it was over and I was sad! This series starts with a bang and will leave you desperately craving more, I for one can't wait to find out more from the men of Satan's Fury MC.
I have only read a few MC romances so far, some I have loved and some that were just too rough and demeaning to women for my taste. Maverick definitely falls in the category as one I love!!! L. Wilder did a fabulous job developing characters that drew me in making me completely enthralled in the story.
Maverick has everything I look for in a book...smart, sexy, funny, and took me on an emotional roller coaster I was more than happy to ride! I can't wait to check out more of L. Wilder's other books!
Not really feeling this one. Heroine was too immature for me. Maverick was just not exciting for me. He was in denial, was moody and closed off. I just could not warm up to him or them as a couple.
When i found out Lesley was writing Maverick's story i couldn't wait to get my hands on it, we met Maverick in the Devils Chasers series when he found out about JW being his son but not much else so i was intrigued to find out his story & lets just say i was not disappointed! Maverick is my all time favourite out of Lesley's books & long may she continue to write these stories.
I've been a fan of Leslie Wilder's since she released her debut novel. I've been anxious for Maverick's story since we met him in Ignite, book 3 of her Devils Chasers series. When she announced she would be writing a spin off MC series about Maverick's club, I cheered. Maverick's story began with the Devils Chasers and him learning about his infant son following the death of his ex-girlfriend, Hailey, who was Lily's sister (the heroine in Ignite). Lily has guardianship of the baby, and Maverick gets custody back in that book.
This book begins with Maverick back home and raising John Warren. He has a lot of misplaced guilt over Hailey, her death and the events leading up to it. He constantly questions his suitability as a parent and the life that he's giving JW. An event causes him to look closer at his life in the club and how it will impact the life that he wants for JW. He ultimately makes a very hard, but selfless decision. Little did he know the chain events that that decision would kick off.
Henley is a college student and the good-girl sister to Cassidy, Satan's Fury MC's clubhouse bartender. She is all about studying hard, getting good grades and working at her job. She and Cassie are very close, but they couldn't be more different. An innocent errand puts Henley in the wrong place at the wrong time as the sole witness to a blatant attack on the club. As a result, she is forced into hiding within the Satan's Fury clubhouse under the watchful eye of Maverick. She is drawn to his brooding intensity, and it becomes her mission to lighten him up a little. While initially annoyed by her silliness, it doesn't take Maverick long at all to start giving as good as he's getting. I loved watching Henley slowly chip away at the cloak of guilt, depression and anger that swirled around Maverick. She slipped right past his defenses and burrowed deep; he was powerless to stop it and he didn't even try. Gah! I just adored this couple!
A trip cross-country, hours and hours of one-on-one time away from the club, and Henley's unwavering support during an incredibly difficult time in his life, open Maverick's eyes to what is right there in front of him, and they return home as a couple. Henley, never one to sit back and be taken care of, wants to help the club she's come to love, she wants to do her part, and she wants to get answers for Maverick. She and Cassie set a plan in motion that isn't the most well developed plan, and, of course, it doesn't go exactly as it was intended to go. Maverick is reliving his worst nightmare, but the club did manage to get a solid lead out of the girls' hair brained scheme.
I absolutely loved Henley and Maverick together. She was exactly what he needed, and she clearly brought this man some much needed peace. Theirs was no insta-love. Oh, there was definitely attraction - crackling, unmistakable attraction - but it took some time for Maverick to open up to the possibility of "more" with Henley. The build up of their relationship was perfect! It was sweet and sexy and paced precisely as it should have been. This couple's back-and-forth banter was fantastic, and they had a natural playfulness together that was perfect and exactly what Maverick didn't know he needed. (Their practical jokes on each other were hysterical! "Hen-LEY!!") Nothing with this couple was ever forced, everything about them was effortless and organic. I loved Maverick and Henley so, so much!
This book lays the groundwork for the rest of series. I literally yelled "NO!" when I realized the was book coming to an end, and I was left wanting more when it did. I am eagerly anticipating the next book and those that will follow in this series! I adore Leslie Wilder's writing style. She never fails to pull me right into the world she's created, and I cannot help but get caught up in her stories and characters.
Another fantastic book by the talented Leslie Wilder, kicking off what promises to be a fantastic MC series! Great job, Leslie! I absolutely can't wait for more!!
* I had the honor of final round beta reading this book, and I have since purchased the eBook for my digital library.
I love Leslie's books and looked forward to reading this one! I again wasn't disappointed! This was a fantastic read and I hope the next one from this series will come real soon. This hasn't been a dark and gritty MC romance and that's what I liked most. The main characters were sooo lovable from the very first and I really connected from the very first page. It's just the right amount of MC, romance, suspense and sex! Well, and there's the thing that Leslie used my name for one of the characters - THAT totally made my day !!This is a definite must read. 5 out of 5 stars!
I have looked forward to Mavericks story, meeting him in the Devils Chasers series, I fell for him. And of course this book didn't disappoint, in fact I fell harder for him. When the Sargent of Arms of the Satan' Fury MC gets killed, Maverick is given the job of taking his place. With that he is given the responsibility of protecting over the only witness of the crime. That witness just happens to the sister to the clubs bartender Cassidy's sister Henley. Henley is attracted to Maverick right from the start, Maverick tries to ignore what he is feeling and convinced that he isn't good enough for her. You know it's been a while since I really really liked the female character in a book. I absolutely fell in love with Henley, not to take anything away from Maverick cause hey we all love a moody, hot, dirty talking biker. But Henley has the best personality, she is the type of character that you want to hang out with. I wasn't really sure if I was going to like the series as much as I did the Devils Chaser series but going by Maverick it's going to just as good if not better. Maverick was everything I love in a book, the writing was fabulous, I cried, I laughed and at the end of the book I hated to see the words The End. I wanted it to go on forever. Congratulations L. Wilder on another fantastic book! Can't wait for the next one.
Five Stars for MAVERICK! I fell in love with him and his big heart in Ignite. I never got a real understanding of who beat him up or why. But I don't care. Henley is super cute ! Her pranks were amazing.
I just finished Maverick and it was a really good read. I am a biker girl through and through so of course I was going to read this. This story is a spinoff from the Devils Chases MC, you read about him with Lily and Goliath with baby JW. This is Mavericks story. He is dark guy. Has a lot of guilt and I can understand why he feels that way. Henley is a good fun loving girl but when she witnesses the murder of a Satan Fury's MC member she doesn't know what to do. Maverick is now Sergeant Of Arms and it is his duty to protect Henley since the bass guys are now after her She catches his attention and wants him to let his darkness go but they don't expect to fall for one another. It's a good story with good characters. I could feel Mavericks pain and the things he had to do. Henley compliments him well. I had trouble with connecting at certain points with them but still enjoyed the story. Can't wait to see what happens next!!
Maverick, just wow this man here is going through a lot dealing with his past he keeps his self closed off and keeps his demons hidden but he has this sweet side and a heart of gold then their is this I don't care side to him he puts on this act but then he meets Henley.
Henley, she is so caring full of life she has so much energy she brings out this side in maverick, she's dealing with a lot being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Her connection to Maverick, was undeniable I loved thier charaters and thief development they were very well written!
L wilder, wow that lady can write her work leaves you in A total hangover for days and wanting more great job I cannot wait for more of your awesomeness.
I have been waiting forever for Maverick! This was a roller coaster of a ride. Maverick is still dealing with giving his son up for adoption and he has to protect Henley and Henley wants to make Maverick smile. I'm glad that L. Wilder came up with a solution for Maverick and JW cause I didn't know how I would really feel if he gave JW, but during the whole thing Henley was very supportive and loving.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Maverick is Awesome! Satan's Fury is an excellent follow up to the Devil Chasers! I loved them all! The men are alpha, possessive and loyal. The woman are strong characters with just enough vulnerability to make you love them too! I love Leslie Wilder and I love all of her books! I sit on the edge of my seat waiting for the next one!
Maverick is a broody man with the weight of the world unnecesarily carried on his shoulders. Henley is a semi good girl that was in teh wrong place at the wrong time. The two were brought together by unforseen circumstances and she became the key to unlock Maverick. I loved this book and i cannot wait to read more!!
This book is fanfreakingtastic! I was lucky enough to read early for review and edit... Maverick may be my favorite yet! He has definitely been one that has made me laugh and made me cry literally and to get his whole story is just like the icing on the cake. Henley is such a breath of fresh air and leaves you with a smile as the reader when you read them as a couple... Even when they are melting your Kindle with their sexiness... 5 stars for sure!
Excellent book after reading about maverick in ignite devils chaser's mc I could wait to read his story and it didn't disappoint very sad all he's been through. Henley is just the girl that helps him love again
Maverick is a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders. The guilt of Hailey and HER life choices and the love he has for JW, have this strong badass biker wondering if he will ever have his own silver lining. Henley is a breath of fresh air for Maverick. She is exactly what he needs to move forward. She is bright, funny and smart. I really like the texts she sent to his phone!! Too funny!!! Leslie Wilder...please don't ever make me choose my favorite from your books because they are all my favorites!!! You are definitely my all-time favorite author!! Looking forward to more books about Satan's Fury MC!!
