Okay, so you all know by now that I am a HUGE MLP FiM fan which means that this review will not be a surprise to anyone.
IT WAS AWESOME!! There were four stories inside that made me smile for one reason or another. The scavenger hunt story with the Cutie Mark Crusaders and 'Pransy Drew' was great, especially at the end when Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon were dressed in overalls! Then there was the story with Applejack and Mayor Mare which started out funny, had some fruity moments and then ended with a very cute moment that had me tearing up a little and wondering what the future was going to hold for the Mane 6. Rarity's story was cute because of the roller derby part at the end! Totally not a Rarity thing but she went anyways because it was what Babs was into. The names for the Derby teams made me laugh too because they were all a more violent version of other well known characters names! The story with Spike, Princess Luna and the fires was interesting in that Spike's character development has a tendency to be somewhat stagnate between stories. Obviously, the mane characters are the Mane 6 and so most of the stories should feature them, but it's nice when the other characters get their own stories so that we can see how they are growing and dealing with the situations and issues that come up. Also, the fire snail was the CUTEST THING EVER!!!
I hope everyone gets a chance to read this book so that it can make you as happy as me after reading it!
Overall, I liked the stories in this book better than some of the previous volumes. As with the other books in the series, I preferred the artwork that was more consistent with the show. Brenda Hickey and Jenn Blake had the best artwork in my opinion (sorry, Agnes Garbowska).
I also think Jeremy Whitley and Bobby Curnow did a good job capturing the characters in the books. I could definitely see any of these stories happening in the show and the characters' reactions felt true to form. Some of the other stories in previous books seemed out of character, but I think all of these stick pretty closely to the show.
I read these books with my nephew and find myself enjoying them too. I’m constantly surprised by how creative and odd these little stories are. This volume uses the ponies to tell a Parks and Rec style story about appreciating local government. Imagine my surprise, but I’m here for it
