Lela lives in a female compound on Earth, knowing exactly where her life is going. She will be forced to have a career she doesn't want, marry a man a computer chooses for her, give birth to children who will be taken from her, and basically spend her entire life doing as she's told.
Drrrl is the prince whose family has been exiled from his home planet due to a centuries old feud with another family. His family has been cursed to have no female offspring. Instead of choosing one of the exiled women convicts brought to his planet, he decides to go to Earth and choose a woman he would prefer. As soon as he sets eyes on Lela he realizes she is his fated mate. Dare he take her with him against her will and make her his bride? Will they ever be able to get past the fact that he kidnapped her to live together in harmony?
Ella Mansfield is a thirty-something woman who lives in the South and loves to spin tales about interesting characters put into unusual situations. She resides with her husband and children and dog in real life, but in her mind? She's all over...
Two and a half I wanted something different to read, a literary palette cleanser I guess and spotted this for free. The reviews seemed mixed so I thought ok why not try a new author. So its a future when Earth has closed its gates so to speak even though it has previously traded with other planets. For fifty years a deeply religious sect has kept order meaning it has a very devout population that are organised with very little freedom. Lela might not be happy but the life she leads is all she knows or can imagine. So when Drrrl teleports down and insists she returns to his planet with him naturally Lela is completely out of her depth. I really wanted to like this but it's perhaps too simplistic at times. It's a quick read so everything happens fast and there's some danger thrown in to spice up the plot but sadly again the pace let it down. So did anything work ? Actually the odd nicknames that Drrrl had for Lela were actually funny although totally wrong. I could perhaps empathise with Lela as she's this sheltered, stifled young woman but I found Drrrl to be irritating, impulsive and just led around by his lust. Perhaps the author will flesh out her world in subsequent stories and I will certainly check out the reviews very carefully.
This would have been a DNF if it had been longer. Just not entertaining. Hero was a smiling jerk. Just yucky-blah. I won't be reading any more from this series.
I read a fair bit of this genre and no, it's not because I have some particular proclivity for little green men. Rather, it's because alien erotica is usually hilarious, intentionally or not. Kidnapped isn't hilarious. Or funny. Or even passable. The hero is basically a horny teenage boy who thinks he's saved the heroine from a life she didn't choose... by groping her in her sleep, abducting her, pressuring her into marrying him, drip feeding her information... We even have this half hearted piece in which she points out that he gave her no more choice than her church had. EXACTLY! Except apparently that's ok because she loves him? Why, I have no idea. He seems completely revolting to me.
Juvenile writing at it's worst. Really Hatfield and McCoys with the vowels taken out. Cannot believe I paid $ for these.returning the other two for a refund.
... my phone is a jerk. ugh. It's a miss but the whole taking out vowels because that's "subtle" amused me. There were hints of wit so I'd be willing to give the author another try once she's had more experience. (okay for aayesha in pretty much every way but the plot is soooo sparse.)
Drrrl Mcy dressed in his nicest clothes before heading to the trading outpost on the planet Mcy. He'd lived on the beautiful planet since he was a small boy, and his family had finally been outcast from their home planet for feuding with another family. Few remembered how the feud originated, but late at night, his father liked to tell his version of the story to his sons. All four of them. The Htflds were disgusting pigs of men, and they lived on the planet on the opposite side of the solar system from the Mcys. The two planets were opposite in every way. The Mcy planet was land poor, but the oceans made it livable. From what Drrrl had heard, the Htfld planet was beautiful and green. Of course, he'd never seen it, so that could be a rumor. Drrrl was an inventor, and his primary goal in life was to build a weapon that could shoot over the sun and wipe the other planet out of the universe.
i quit literally after reading this FIRST FEW PARAGRAPHS. the writing is ALREADY terrible,as if it was written by a third grader.
It started off interesting and then it went into an old earth legends of the Hatfields and McCoys 🙄 and I just became annoyed. Couldn’t think of something new and interesting about the universe? The author had to revisit a earth legend? Sigh. After getting over the annoyance of that the book wasn’t to wasteful but not worth my time. Some good sex scenes I’ll give the author that.
I clicked on this accidentally while on an Elizabeth Mansfield binge on Koboplus ... Quite different from the intended author but I guess it is another way to arrange a marriage. The MMC has all kinds of weirdly inappropriate pet names for the FMC because he's watched Hill Street Blues without understanding the context. Many alien names seem to be human names without the vowels... Darrel- Drrl, Benjamin-Bnjmn, Hatfield-Htfld, McCoy-Mccy...
Ever seen a black and white 50's science fiction movie? The story read like watching one of those old movies. It was stilted. The language and syntax were simple. The one funny part, though, had the guy using mistaken "endearments" from watching partners on old Earth crime TV shows. But other than that, little description was used to liven the text.
You know, We had Mr. Hatfield as our vice principal, and Miss McCoy as our English teacher in high school. Two of the nicest people you could meet. Funny they both ended up in the same school in the same out of the way small town at the same time.
I wanted to like it but the consent issue left a lot to be desired. I just, it was icky. And her personality was all over the place. Things just felt very unstable the writing style was not smooth and flowing it was just all over the place for me
I loved Drrrl and Lela, they are funny, adventurous, passionate and perfect for each other. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I highly recommend the read!!
Definitely enjoyable, though could have used a bit more work explaining about the aliens and history. I liked the characters and the story was easy enough to read. 3 🌟
Liked the fact that preconceptions were blown out of the water not so kean on the names of the warring factions found it a bit distracting but still a decent read
