June 4, 2392. Three years into a twenty year mission to a new solar system, the colony ship Magellan and its ten million residents sent their last pulse message… "Peace with the Navereen is at an end."

Trapped in Cargo Bay 37, fighter pilot Fristion Nash and twelve hundred others lived through the Magellan apocalypse. They have survived for a decade under Frank Block's exacting leadership.

Now survival isn’t enough. Nash wants answers. Frank Block wants only control and obedience.

Praise for Map Runners:

“I found the book funny and exciting. I can't wait for the rest of them to come out.”

Recommended by a trustworthy friend, I borrowed this as my monthly Amazon Prime selection. The sample hooked me and the concept makes for an interesting take on dystopian societies.

Unfortunately the book didn't live up to the early promise. Every problem was solved easily without much effort, even when our heroes were outnumbered by outrageous odds. I'm willing to put up with a little of that but eventually it palls.

Extremely good concept, but the delivery was... Well... Something to be desired. We just start in the middle of the story and we never get much background. This book leaves more questions, such as the physical descriptions of each character, and the alien race called the Navareen. In my mind they are a cross between the Cabal from the video game "Destiny" and the bad aliens from the movie "Galaxy Quest."
Why are they trying to colonize a new planet?!?! It never says.
The characters though getting into what could be sticky situations never are injured. I grew to never expect anything bad to happen.
I feel like this was a draft for a much better idea. Based on this book, it will take some hard core convincing to get me to read the others.
Oh and I didn't appreciate the foul language. It was unnecessary and I think used to try to impress the readers, not because the author felt like it added to the story. I am was un-impressed.

It wasn't bad, but there were too many little unexplained details for me to really enjoy it.

Examples (no spoilers, promise!):

They have gravity throughout the ship, but it's never explained. Not even a casual mention or anything. It's not centrifugal gravity because it's uniform on all decks. It's not thrust gravity (from firing engines continuously) because they're not sure the ship's engines are running. And if it's some form of artificial gravity, it's absolutely uniform throughout a ship with massive damage, some areas even open to space? That kept niggling at me through the entire story.

The CO2 level in sealed, unoccupied spaces increases over time, even though there's nothing living in there to produce CO2. So where's it coming from?

And the mapper's suits aren't good enough for use in space, but one scene shows them going through a damaged area that's open to space. So are they true spacesuits or not?

There were others, those are just the first that come to mind.

The story was okay, but not great, and problems like that are enough to keep me from reading any more of the series.

An intriguing idea, well thought out and written. An easy read, fun characters and a strong plot.

I barely got more than a page or two in. This read like a first draft. So many grammar errors and editing issues.

This is one of the best space based books I have ever had the privilege to read. When you factor in the fact that it was written by a character from another author's work, that's right guys-written by an imaginary person, who could resist this opportunity. I feel as if I have lived in this amazing place and talked with the people there. They share secrets small and large but usually work together to get their rears out of really huge jams plus they know how to have a good time. Can't wait to read the next in this series. It is being downloaded to my Kindle as I type.

One of the few books I just quit reading because it was so bad. Too many errors. Characters not developed, alien race not described at all. I actually quit the book the first time the author misspelled the name of the alien race. If he couldn't be bothered neither could I.

Accidentally picked up for my amazon free book for the month. Not being my genre of choice, it was a halfway decent story.
