There isn't a blast of gunfire, a war over turf, cash or honor. But, there's an explosion and the shrapnel has hit a family man in the heart. The field of debris has taken an emotional toll on the people that have taken a young Matriarch for granted.
Selange, is diagnosed with cancer. To her husband and those that love her, it's as scorching as a bullet boring into flesh and bone. There's other troubles and oh they're coming hard on a family accustomed to difficulty. Giuseppe learns first-hand, what he hates the most, might be destiny calling. When he stands before a Russian Mafiya, he's forced to consider family at the point of a gun.
S. W. Frank resides in New York. Art, poetry, music and writing were always quiet joys. A former NYC emergency medical worker and contributing writer for her law school journal, the author decided to pursue the obsession of storytelling full-time. Since then she dusted off manuscripts and decided to share stories with the public.
The Guardian, 2013 article, 'The Gems of Indie Publishing' readers' have stated, "[S.W. Frank] is bold and unapologetic in her delivery."
The Alfonzo series, voted on Goodreads as 1 of the Best Mob and Multicultural/Interracial Romance's for 2012.
The author states, "I write stories with multicultural characters that are desirable, smart and intriguing. They're stories of interesting people that I wanted to read and my small contribution to literary world to include diversity."
Aww man, where do I even begin? This is probably, without a doubt, my favorite installment to date. This story is about pure, unadulterated emotion. Each of these characters was operating on instinct and nothing more. It was react first, think later, and this is why I loooove this series! It’s family first. Always.
I don’t think we’ve ever seen Al and Geo in such a raw, emotional state. These two are fire and ice. Blood brothers who are as different in personality as they are in looks, but one thing they will always have in common: Love for each other and love for the famiglia.
The family is in crisis and everyone steps up to the plate-even Ariana, who has proven that beneath that hardened, thieving-ass exterior, is a woman who is caring and loving beyond her own husband and kids. Nico is the glue that holds everyone together, and we see a softer side of him when he’s around all the fiftyle’em Giacanti offspring (Whew it’s so many kids now!) Selange suffers a major health scare that causes the family to come together and support one another like never before.
As with each installment, there is always an introduction of a new alliance or act of treason. The back stories are always phenomenal and eye-opening, and there is never a lack of drama, introspection, passionate lovemaking, and gut-busting laughs. It’s pretty safe to say that I never want this series to end. It’s that good.
Well Alronzo has more half sisters and brothers than I have hot dinners. They just keep coming out of the woodwork. Geo's Russian sister drags him into her family's drama in a bid to safe Kenya her sister. Can you believe Geo is in an arranged marriage. Lord will the author ever find Geo a love match a woman who can be in his world with him. I love Geo and I think its awful that he is not allowed to have a normal relationship like everybody else.
Selenge meets with the other ladies and she drops Keyna on them all as well as informing them about her diagnosis. Sophia is on not impressed with her son's new wife. Well we have to wait for the next book to see what is going to happen next.
All and Selange are THE power couple in mafia romances!!
I cried, I laughed, I fell in love all over again with Alfonso, Nico and Goo....even Sergio is stepping up his game and Lorenzo is yummy too!!
Heartwarming scenes regarding cancer and the effects on every loved one and gritty scenes that left me cringing and seething with anger regarding abuse against women. Very good addition to the series!
5 stars!! I started reading at 8:30ish with the intention of reading the first 3 chapters and going to bed. It is now 3:30! I could not stop reading. I'm heartbroken that this latest installment is over and am already anticipating the next book.
I loved how the authored mixed it up and had storylines for all of the family. Also, she tied in many past events and in ways that make you reflect on the 6 degrees of separation.
In volume 18 of the Alfonzo Series many questions are answered as new one's are posed. Alfonzo and Selange, while trying to make sure that the kids are all happy, protected and taken care of, find themselves up against and enemy that can not be stopped by the swipe of a knife or from the point blank range of a bullet. This battle neither saw coming and are going to have to find a different way to end this new threat, while making sure that the known enemies are kept at bay. Giuseppe is reeling from the loss of his wife an unborn child. He thinks he's cursed and not meant to find his happily ever after. He knows that his fratello is going through something so when a new threat against the family comes to light, Giuseppe decides to step up and take control of the situation. His heavy handed tactics may do more harm than good though, and that can only mean more trouble for the family. Nico and Ari are trying to get a handle on their extended brood which means Ari needs to find her nurturing side and soon. While Nico is trying to help Ari adapt to their growing list of responsibilities he's also worried about his family and how their all coping with their different issues. He knows that soon he will be called into action form stopping them all from making matters worse than they already are. Lorenzo and Chocolate are still figuring out how they fit into each others lives. Lorenzo, although not sure of whether or not they belong together, will make sure that Chocolate feels safe with or without him being in her life. He attempts to neutralize a threat to her and by doing so cause may cause more problems for his newly gained extended family. Every time I finish a book in this series I always think, please don't let this be the last one. S. W. Frank has created characters that are so easy to love and connect too which makes you say at the end of every volume " okay what happens next." Alfonzo may be a mafia don, but he's also a loving husband and father who at the end of the day will always put his family first. Selange is a woman who has been through many challenges that may have caused some to just give up, but she continues to fight and you can see the growth in her character. She has truly proven time and time again that she can go toe to toe with anyone who's a threat to her loved ones and the life she has made with her family. This series just continues to get better with every new release. I truly hope this isn't the end of Alfonzo, but if it is I truly enjoyed the ride.
Not my favorite but worth reading to keep up with what’s going on with so many characters. Only real down side is you never really get answers to the other issues that have happened in the prior books. Like why did the art dealer get killed? What was in it for him and is she just spilling her frustrations out not knowing he was listening. Ari seems like she still wants to test Nico’s loyalty, each book she comes off as more and more of a scammer. I have a feeling that watch will come and bite Alfonzo in the butt unless Nico takes care of that problem.
The mess with the Russian seemed to come out of left field, then again maybe I just don’t remember the details. Not sure why Ivan would make such a request, just seemed like a drag along to make you want to read more about him. I mean, with a move like the one he made, why hadn’t Alfonzo gone ahead and make it? If there will be no blow back from something like that then it takes away the suspense that the group brought in other books. Hopefully the story will pick up in the next one.
This was one of the more tranquil books in this series. Not sure what's going to result from Giuseppe's action. Also now with Lorenzo and Diane/Chocolate are entrenched in the family, you have to wonder how their situation will affect the family. Now with Kenya and Katie in the mix, what does that all mean. I'm not sure that I like them.I Anyway, I'm glad Selange is okay. But the mess with Anita is not going to end well.
This one in this series is up there for me the test of love and devotion between Al and Selange is what dreams are made of and the fight at Geo’s house off the chain this family goes through the good times and the bad together
Ok, I stopped reading this series about a year or so ago. I became disinterested. when Shanda died in far back previous books, it really changed the dynamic of this story. The author's writing style became more poetic in nature and it seemed forced. I thought she would end the story a few books prior. A fellow reader in a group encouraged me to dive back in.
So I started with this book. I'm not disappointed much more than I am confused. I remember much from book 17. I would have liked a better explanation of Chocolate's (Diana) connection to her employer and the book and who stole it.
So I didn't care for Alfonzo in this series. Selonge's speech on reaching out for help was pointless. The situation that lead Nicole down that path started because of Al and Nico. It really was revenge for her and Al still didn't tell Selonge the full truth. I guess my issue with Al is that he sort of creates these issues. He is the head hancho but never seems to think that in same manner he would go through extremes to protect and seek revenge for his family, that the people with less reach and opportunity wouldn't want to do the same. That's why I think the explanation of Tony and Tiffany's murder was ridiculous. It's the same with Al wanting to quickly decided he was going to erase Anita. I'm like damn how did you so easily come to the conclusion that she deserves death. It was mentioned some books back that her kids, except for one didn't treat her great. The women just remain clueless.
I feel like Geo needs to go on a journey in the desert. It's 18 books in and he hasn't grown yet. That's a problem.
Selange didn't annoy me but the image of being perfect is still there. That is still annoying.
The way the author deals with her villains, aye. I'm not sure. There is no central constant enemy in this story. On more than a few occasions, a number of main characters should have died according to "the code". The way this book ended was like taking a hard poo and jumping up from the toilet because someone yelled "fire", running without wiping the s*** hanging on your butt. I mean it just ended lol
I guess I will march on with reading this series.
This book was 3 and half stars for me but I put a 4 star rating.
Timely release with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The gang is all here but this is about the women. Had this been the second part of the previous novel (17) that one would have been more cohesive. No spoilers but Sela would have noticed a changed shirt as well as a dirty one. In his business arriving home shirtless would have been acceptable. Gee and his step sister, Kenya will be interesting to watch. Lorenzo was good at his job and his skills are about to get upgraded. Chocolate will make it to the table. She recognized Alfonso as the Alpha and didn't end up death. The family policing force just got bigger. Sophie has the journal ya'll. It is going to be hard on her for awhile or until she lets Sela know what's up. I want to know how Bianca's daughters are doing. Why did Ari get dumbed down? Must be menopause. Now to read the other reviews & I might have to edit this.
What can I say about SW books that haven't already been said...this on wraps nicely and gives us an insight into what the next subject should be..Vengeance....it's should probably center around the Nazis bastards that Sophia despises, the arrogant Russian thug Ivan....and possibly the ex mayor who happens to be a rapist...there are so many ways SW can go with this one...not that she needs help from me. But once again 5 very enthusiastic stars....and thank yo Ms. Frank for your all you do for your fans.
I have enjoyed this series, I have read everyone of them. I think this may be my last book in the series that I will read because none of the characters seem to care about anything but their own self interests which makes it hard to care about the characters themselves. There are 2 new characters that may bring me back, Lorenzo and Chocolate but they are not main characters so not sure.....too bad. I have enjoyed
The Diaz/ Giacanti family continues to fight off their enemies including the Russians and cancer. The family keeps getting larger as another one of Luzo's children is uncovered. Ari and Nico continue to work on their marriage, Alfonzo and Selange draw even closer to each other as she battled cancer. He realized that he would be lost without her and so would the entire family.
I'm a true fan of this Mafioso saga. I must say that there were more typo's in this book than I have seen in previous ones. Looking forward to the next installment with possibly a little more action
