"My tie whipped in my face as I jumped from a 20 story building. Everything I had worked for, everything I had invested in, was gone. It was a stormy day for mother nature and the stock market; October 29th, 1929. I thought of what my life would have been like as a bird, flying free. I started laughing and flapping my arms. After all, who did I have to impress now?
What I didn’t expect was to survive. A curiosity stuck my mind at the same time my feet struck the pavement. It was a question about the night before."
James was born in Montana, raised with three brothers, and provided trouble for two parents. In his 20's he fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. He then moved out to Seattle after college and started a life. In 2014, he started the writing adventure.
All books in one review from listening as an audiobook. I have to say this series would be great for kids as well as adults it a story of two friends who lived around the 1920's who went out to get drunk pick a lady up and takes her home (nothing sexual happens) they are attached and fed on by a female vampire. Now we are in the present and the two friends are still alive but one is stuck in the pass and sounds like a 1920 mob boss and the other has kept up with times computer, cellphones etc the friend us starting to take interest and it is funny to listen to the two talking . So the series is base on the one friend who never lost his adventure nature and wants to know why there are vampires their history from were they became into bring up to present. So you get a history lesson that covers the globe on the surface but most under ground in caves you meet the original vampires who are not started from one branch of humanity but two one called the Water Protector Clan and one who really had no name but was known for ability to run very fast with their one leg and at one time lived on the surface but sometime moved into caves and built their civilization and own culture. The water protectors survived and the Clan of One Leg did not. Only after you meet Dracula do you really figure what the the Water Protector Clan and Clan of One Leg gave or created that helped create vampires with the ability for long life but not how they came into deing. You see and learn about Dracula and what he was doing in the present and finally his downfall. So do highly recommend this series of audiobooks but listen to them at one time the books do play right into each other pretty wells and after you listen to them share the books with kids and friends
I’m currently reading the 3-book series; each short story is an installment for the bigger picture of Vampire Caving.
In book one, Bernie is sent on a mission, from an associate really. For information, Richard is given gifts like money and equipment that carries him through life. But on this journey, he finds himself in a cave. though he felt himself lost, he literally stumbled into answers that he felt were precious enough to not even share with his associate, but it’s okay. Richard is now headed to Easter Island, in search of answers and who’s leaving these fanged impressions in stone?
I liked this story, in that it gives an indication that there’s more than Dracula or Vlad as the beginning to the blood-sucker background. With an ancient take on how the immortals came to be, Livingood offered up an interesting story I’m diving in to the second audiobook now. My full review for this book and the other two will post 01/06/20
This was an interesting take on the origin of vampires. It is a short story but it was surprisingly detailed and the characters more developed than I would have thought. The story and the actual explanation of what vampires are could have been detailed more clearly but I enjoyed listening to the story and the narration was good. It's worth the time if you want something not too dark or serious and have a short amount of time to listen.
I received this audiobook for free through Audiobook Boom! and am leaving honest feedback about the quality of the material.
I received a review copy of the audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fun and unique vampire story that doesn't focus on the entrancing and bloodletting of humans, but instead on the search for an answer to "why am I a vampire?" There are some unexpected discoveries and new mythologies created in this world that make for potential future tales.
My critique would be that the narrator made some interesting choices with intonation and specific voices (particularly Richard) and that the full story could have used a quick run through by an editor. otherwise, this is a fun listen worthy of an hour of your time.
We are presented with a unique take on the vampire genre. Bernie, a recently turned vampire seeks an answer to the question, “What am I?”. He is not satisfied with the media explanation of vampires, and the notion that Vlad the Impaler was the first vampire. Bernie wants to know the true origin of vampires. We follow Bernie on his quest, uncovering historical legends while discovering new unusual mythos. The story is fairly interesting but it does get a bit bizarre. This volume contains all three short stories comprising Vampire Caving. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
The author wrote a series of 3 books in one Audible, that follows the story of 2 men who become Vampires and looking to understand the origin of it. The two main characters are men from the 1920's and follows them as time moves forward. Quite different from any other Vampire story I have every listen to or read. Not bloody or gorey, with different designations depending on each ones preferred inclinations.
I received the trilogy for free at my request but the opinion is of my own. Really quick read with lots of action that keeps you wanting to know more. Bernie is sent on a mission to learn more of certain types of vampires without knowing what he will find.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobooks of this title.
A man's experience of being turned to a vampire, and his search to answer: How is it so? His search takes him to discover a cave, and inside... Well you don't want me to give away the storyline do you?
My rating: 4 stars Audiobook narrator Bryan Patrick Jones rating: 4.5 stars
I have read a few vampire books and they all seem to be different. However, it seems there is always one common theme/question surrounding the thoughts of most vampires on where their origins lay. This book has a very interesting take on this topic and it is fun to explore.
This was a great, short vampire short story with a light touch of humor to go along with the interesting origins of vampirism. I liked the nod to Rick Roll and Gangnam Style!
The narrator did a great job with this story along with changing his voice for different characters.
