1.8 All the book said was that be positive. However, I believe that's because that is really all there is. Being positive

This book gets a C grade from me (or 5.8 out of 10 star rating). Not a bad treatise on why you should stay positive. Basically just be positive regardless of what is going on around you and stay away from any negative people (including family) as much as possible. If you have to be around them then try to take control of the conversation and put a positive spin on it.

For me it failed in two respects. First there was no advice or instruction on how to stay positive. No summarized advice from psychologists or psychiatrists on what methods or techniques might actually work. Staying positive can be difficult as we are bombarded 24/7 with bad news from all of the network and cable news stations. A little instruction would have been nice, but it is less than 100 pages long so not a lot of detailed analysis was presented.

Secondly, it assumes that negativity is always bad and should be avoided like the Ebola virus. Now in the vain of full disclosure here I am not the world's most positive person. If you ask my kids they would likely rank me in the bottom 10% of positive souls on the Earth. I admit to generally taking the initial view that the worst that could happen is about to happen. Of course life rarely happens this way. I blame this trait on my Mother who managed to make worrying an art form throughout most of her life. In spite of this characteristic she was indeed the world's best Mother. Sorry that I digress.

All that being said, I think that there are legitimate times and places to be negative. Here I define negativity or being negative as not always agreeing with the status quo or having a smile on your face. Isn't it possible that Edward Snowden was a bit negative in his view that our government shouldn't be spying on its own citizens without their knowledge. Prior to his disclosures anyone around him outside of the CIA might have thought that he was being just a bit paranoid. Most American's didn't think that this kind of activity could happen in the US. After his revelations we all now seem to be a bit paranoid and what he shared doesn't seem to be so crazy.

What about the guy sitting in the Chernobyl control room pointing out to his buddies that the reactor core temperature was rising way too fast. His buddies just laughed at him and said that he was being paranoid and it would all be fine (think of a Homer Simpson Russian counterpart here).
So maybe being positive all of the time is a bit unrealistic. Maybe there is a balance out there that we could try to achieve and still be considered positive people. I doubt it because I think that the sky is falling here. I will be right back, I need to go check it. Never mind it is just raining rally hard.

Although ironic to negatively rate a book on positivity, i thought the book as *very* repetitive and provided little more than the simple 'Be positive' message. Oh, that and advertisements for other books and websites :)

I liked his 'Learning: How to become a genuius & expert' book, but this one was too shallow, sorry. I tried reading it to my wife, but we both had the same feeling.

By far not the best book I have ever read. This book was a very short read. Also, I thought a lot of points were cliche and obvious. With all of that said, the main point to take away from this book is this: You are you (not anybody else), and being on this planet is a gift rather than a curse. Do you, and have fun in the process.
