Winning at Trial

Rate this book
Chosen the best book from over 300 entries, Winning at Trial has been singled out by the Association of Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA) for its clarity and innovative teaching methods. Winning at Trial by Shane Read is the only book that teaches trial skills by analyzing video and transcripts of actual trials. It is also the only book that reveals the secrets of jury decision-making through the use of video in collaboration with one of the nation's foremost jury consultants, DecisionQuest. This innovative book is being used by law schools throughout the country for both their introductory and advanced trial advocacy classes, as well as by law firms for their training programs. The author, a seasoned trial lawyer and professor, has carefully selected video and transcripts from actual trials (4 hours of video on two DVDs) that show lawyers demonstrating both great and terrible skills in the courtroom - which teach trial techniques and strategy in an interesting and memorable way.

You are sure to be seriously disappointed if you confuse this book with the memoir of Charlie Sheen's law days, which I believe is called WINNING! (at trial).

Read for a trial practice class, but honestly, this book is phenomenal. I actually enjoyed reading it, and though I only rented it from the school, I'm going to end up buying it from them, because I want to hang onto this for when I'm actually lawyered up and in real trials. Comprehensible, painless, and kind of amazing- I can visualize how effective these tips would be in a trial.

É um bom livro. Mas definitivamente não gosto de ler sobre direito. Trabalho, trabalho, livros à parte.

I'm assuming all lawyers read this book as part of their education, so I'm recommending it to anyone who's ever watched a courtroom scene in a TV show or movie -- or read about one in a murder mystery -- and wondered if real life was like that. Here's the answer, in very clear prose, with excellent examples from real, famous trials (like Timothy McVeigh and O.J.). If you have an amateur's interest in the law, this book is absolutely riveting. (It comes with DVDs of the relevant courtroom scenes, but I haven't viewed those.)
