Deborah Bladon had never read a romance hero she didn't like. Her love for romance novels began when she was old enough to board the bus, library card in hand to check out the newest Harlequin paperbacks. She was a Canadian by heart, and by passport, but you could often spot her in New York City sipping a latte and looking for inspiration for her next story. Manhattan was definitely her second home.
She cherished her family and believed that each day was a gift for writing, for reading, and for loving.
Blah. I kept waiting for this to get better. It never did. Back to paranormal books for me. Here are a few points to why it is getting 1-2 stars. 1. The plot is slow. 2. The plot twist is dumb 3. No murders, no dead bodies 4. The author refers to some lady anatomy as "folds." Folds? What's down there that the girl has folds, did she put in some folded laundry, a folded fan, a folded paper airplane (ouch, paper cuts), a file folder,...just what is it? 5. I was bored. It seemed like a mystery romance kind of book. Mystery fail. 6. No one died. I know that was my #3 complaint, but it bears repeating. Dead bodies always enliven a book.
Moral of the story? I'm going back to reading about violent supernatural creatures and leaving modern fiction to others.

The story was decent. The only thing that bothered me which is really small but it still bothered me was the fact that Tess didn't tell Landon about the miscarriage. I felt like it was really important and she just never mentioned it to him. But other than that the story was good. A solid 3 stars in my opinion. It was a very easy and quick read.

Landon and Tess are very interesting characters. My heart grieved for Landon when we learn his story and understand how much he suffered as a kid. I enjoyed seeing their relationship unfold and bloom. They work through some intense and crazy situations and come through stronger together.
Deborah did an amazing job. I fell in love with Landon and Tess. I was glad to be able to buy the whole series. I can't wait to get another series to read.
The story line is good.....sadly the writing is not. There is WAY TOO MUCH narration and very little dialogue. I found myself skipping some of Tess’s narration as it dragged on and on to the point of boredom. At times there were two sentence dialogue between Tess and Landon then three to four paragraphs of Tess’s narrative explanations, why not just put that into the the dialogue between the two? It would have flowed better and be more engaging, also why not add some of Landon’s thoughts? My personal favorite in books is when there is dialogue and personal narration of both main characters, a give and take if you will. There wasn’t even one narration of Landon’s thoughts. Sorry but I have to say this trilogy is just not worth the money.
I liked the couple, Landon and Tessa. The only reason for a 4 instead 5 was I didn't feel the strong connection that I usually feel in the many other Deborah Bladon series. Other than that, Landon is an airline pilot who lost his father during a boat trip. Tessa is an event planner who is trying to get her business to take off, and has a strong connection with her father. There are some different family things that affect the story but it has a HEA.
Just gotta say Deborah Bladon has done it again. I absolutely love all of her books. when she gets them i just have to read them. Need a new Author to read Deborah is your woman ! But be careful her Cliffs are BRUTAL ! So you have to read the whole series. Just one book from a triology just wont cut it. And well Rise isnt a exception. So glad i waited for the complete series came out. i would have went insane !
Tess and Landon is an amazing story. I enjoyed every twist and turn the author created. There were some surprises along the way that I would love to know more about! I think the 6 degrees or less of separation with the characters is fun and wonderful for creating one big dysfunctional happy family.
