Bill Johnson and his wife Brenda (Beni) Johnson are the Senior Pastors of Bethel Church in Redding, California. Johnson is a fifth generation pastor.
Johnson was born in Minnesota in 1951 and became a Christian as a young child. Soon after, Johnson read seven books on prayer, which significantly affected his perspective and subsequent ministry.
Bill Johnson and his wife have three children: Eric, Brian and Leah.
Johnson speaking at a conference Bill Johnson and Beni (Brenda) began as singles pastors under his father at Bethel. In 1979, they became senior pastors of Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California.
While pastoring in Weaverville, Johnson attended a 1987 conference led by John Wimber, founder of the Vineyard Church Movement. According to Johnson "A number of healings and manifestations broke out and I didn't know what to do with it. I didn't object to it, I wasn't opposed to it; I just didn't know how to pastor it in a way that it would continue and increase".
In 1995, Johnson attended the Toronto Blessing revival at the Toronto Airport Vineyard church. Johnson relates: "In Toronto I said, 'Lord, if You touch me again I will never change the subject.' So I went up for prayer every time it was offered. I didn't have anything dramatic happen, but I came home and said, 'I am going to give the rest of my life to this.'"
In February 1996, after 17 years of leading the Weaverville church, the Johnsons were invited to become senior pastors of Bethel. Today Johnson describes Bethel as a church where "everything we do either fuels revival or is fueled by revival." Under his leadership, Bethel left the Assemblies of God in 2006 to become a nondenominational charismatic church.
According to a recent book written by Johnson, "Face to Face with God", Bethel is "a church where supernatural encounters with God happen regularly, miracles are common, and the congregation has an infectious passion for spiritual growth." The church has approximately 1,500 members, and a School of Supernatural Ministry.
Their Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry has 1,200 students enrolled with over 370 from other countries. Johnson leads a network of churches dedicated to global, multi-generational revival, Global Legacy. Johnson has written a number of books and travels extensively as a featured revival conference speaker. Johnson is also involved with the Northern California Revival Fellowship, a group of north Californian pastors committed to revival.
“Imagine a city that is filled with a tangible peace—a thick, impressive atmosphere of peace that enables people to think for themselves, dream and celebrate life. Imagine a place where hope is real and measurable, so the prevailing attitude is that anything is possible. Imagine a city where prosperity touches every citizen, and there is no lack of any kind. Imagine a place where not only is there no lack, but there is creativity, beauty and stunning design everywhere you look. Prosperity takes on purpose as God’s nature is seen in the things people have made. Imagine having a government that made you proud to be a citizen.”
A beautiful reminder after graduating a decade ago from BSSM.
This book is excellent for anyone who wants insight into how they can utilize their God given wisdom, gifts, and talents to make significant changes in the world that God has set them. Bill Johnson's book is not about anything spooky spiritual, but about seeing the world through God's eyes and how history has influenced the present to set the stage for our participation in God's plan to restore society to wholeness. Jesus already did the hard part in giving us access. It's our part in gathering the spoils. Bill Johnson sets forth the encouragement that anyone can receive to be a part of bringing it all to pass.
This book will inspire, encourage and challenge you to change your world with what is at your fingertips even now.
A portion of the description of this book: "As we live out God's power and wisdom, and fully yield ourselves to His purposes--maintaining a heart of hope and promise for the days ahead--we will work wonders for His Kingdom." says it well!
Read this book to be taught, empowered and challenged to re-present our Savior to the world by how you live your life every day....a call to the miraculous.
This book is more conceptual than it is instructional. It doesn’t tells you exactly what to do but demonstrates what it meant by “on earth and it is in heaven” through scriptures, the author’s observations and revelations, what servant-oriented leadership means, how we have the privilege of establishing the climate of love over our businesses, neighbourhood and household. Overall, a pretty good read but the start was a bit slow for me.
Some of the concepts in this book were extremely helpful to me in my writing life. I talk about that in this blog entry: https://amylu-riley.com/blog/writing-...
As simple as it may sound, this book identifies and reminds one what having the Spirit of God does. Not a temporary impact but a life time of releasing, “on earth what already exists in heaven.”
The main theme of this book is about God’s wisdom and its importance in our lives but finding this theme was more difficult than usual for me. Everything did not begin to tie together until I had read at least halfway through.
Even though the central theme seemed to be eluding me the individual nuggets that I read were delectable and the stretching of my mind out of the box was almost delightful, as per Bill Johnson’s usual style of writing and speaking. I liked the way Mr. Johnson’s thoughts caused me to pause and actually think.
Not only that, this book was not just about wisdom, it includes Mr. Johnson giving out wisdom. That is what really tied this whole book together.
Notable quotes:
“If favor is given to me, it must benefit the people around me in order for it to be considered favor well stewarded.” page 81
“God loves everyone the same, not everyone has the same measure of favor.” page 81
“The way we receive people—acknowledge who they are and the gifts they have—also determines the deposit they will be able to make into our lives.” page 118
“Our ongoing relationship with God is evident in our tenderness toward the Holy Spirit. It is the absolute key for living in wisdom.” page 142
“A job is secular when we do what we do in our own strength for God and not with God.” page 161
“I believe some of our greatest problems take place when we live by principles and not by the presence of God.” page 171
If you are a fan of Bill Johnson, or if you are in need of wisdom, or if you would like your thinking to be challenged, this book is for you.

This book was different than I expected but it has definitely caused me to think differently about influence, wisdom, blessing and walking a Kingdom life in the world through the power of the Spirit. We were born into a battle and are called to create a culture of the Kingdom where ever we are. Bill Johnson here works through the ways in which wisdom serves the Kingdom and is used to influence the culture around us in life giving ways. I found his discussion regarding removing boundaries particularly insightful (Us/Them, Supernatural/Natural, Sacred/Secular).
While I wouldn't recommend this one to readers new to Bill Johnson I would recommend it to those who are somewhat familiar with his teaching along with the teaching of Dan Mohler and Todd White. I highly recommend checking out these three speakers. Start with the WPFilms (Finger of God, Furious Love, Father of Lights, Holy Ghost, Holy Ghost Reborn) and the 'Best of Power of Love' series on YouTube.
We Christians sometimes think we'll only see God's will be done in heaven. But Johnson reminds us we are to pray that God's will be done here and now. He encourages us to be an influence in our community. Some think it can only be through politics or business. But Johnson encourages us to use the opportunities we have every day to be an influence. He gives great biblical examples and reminds us of the attitudes we should have. One that struck me was valuing others before they are converted. Each person is made in the image of God and has received gifts from Him. Honoring people is the beginning of being an influence. You can read my complete review at http://bit.ly/1QLVL3s. I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
The Power That Changes the World is powerful Christ centered book. It was written by Pastor Bill Johnson and is geared more toward a Pentecostal Christian audience. However, I would recommend this book to all Christians.
Unlike many Evangelical books, this book is focused not only on personal transformation, but society transformation as well. Pastor Johnson shows a heart for seeing our world transformed by the gospel, one city at a time.
I found myself taking notes on many pages and I felt completely engaged while reading this book. This book could change many lives.
I received this book for free from goodreads for free in exchange for an honest review.
The one book I always tell my friends, or anyone who asks, that changed my life ten years ago was Bill Johnson's When Heaven Invades Earth. Bill has a way of teaching that is both intelligent and down-to-earth. I am always both challenged and encouraged when I read his books or listen to his messages. When Heaven Invades Earth taught me so much about God's heart as a good Father and about my responsibility as a believer in Jesus Christ to bring heaven to earth. And now, The Power That Changes The World continues the same message and goes even further, specifically pointing out the importance of wisdom and power.
Very powerful book for Christians - understanding of being a Christian in the here & now with change in the here & now - how to important to maintain a heart of hope & promise - well written, easy to understand, Bill Johnson is a 5th generation pastor.
Things we have felt in our heart but could not find the words to express. Don't plan to read this quickly. You will want to leave time to verify everything in Scripture for yourself.
