Peter Pan is a special boy. He can fly. He doesn't grow old. And he comes from a magical island called Neverland. So when Peter shows up at the Darling residence, Wendy and her brothers are all too eager to follow Peter on an adventure of a lifetime. Blake A. Hoena grew up in central Wisconsin, where, in his youth, he wrote stories about robots conquering the Moon and trolls lumbering around in the woods behind his parents house, and the fact that the trolls were hunting for little boys had nothing to do with Blake’s pesky brothers. Later, he moved to Minnesota to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Since graduating, Blake has written more than thirty books for children, including retellings of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and the Perseus and Medusa myth. Most recently, he’s working on a series of graphic novels about two space alien brothers, Eek and Ack, who are determined to conquer our big blue home.
Since this was so short, it only took me about 10 minutes to read xD It was cute and all, but I definitely would recommend reading the original too because this was condensed down a lot and felt kind of rushed...I still enjoyed it though because it was nice to have all the pictures :P I have been reading more graphic novels lately and I was surprised by how much I'm enjoying them! My library has all kinds of them and it's fun to just grab a whole bunch to read because you can finish them within an hour usually lol Don't get me wrong, I love longer books too...but it is nice to have a book you can finish in one sitting every once and a while ^_^
I'm rating this book a 3.5 stars, as based on the edition illustrated by Fern Cano. Due to it being a graphic novel, it's much, much shorter than the original novel. While it was interesting in parts to see new aspects of Neverland, being as it is my favourite fantasy realm in the history of books, I also found it a little frustrating that there wasn't more of the original story within this illustrated version. However, this would mainly be down to the fact that as a graphic novel, it would have taken a long time to craft, and so some illustrations of scenes may have been cut out. Preferably, this edition would have been longer and we would have been able to see more of the island. Specifically, scenes with the Indians and the Pirates. Much of it harks back to the Disney film, more so than the original book, which was interesting to see. Overall, it was an enjoyable and light read which brought me back to my childhood.
Bonitas ilustraciones aunque no se si será mi edición pero los nombres venían diferentes tanto de los hermanos de Wendy como los de los niños perdidos.
All things considered, this is a great adaptation of Peter Pan, especially for the intended audience. The graphics are beautiful and fun, the story condensed just enough, and the adventures true to the original novel. I loved that it included small details from the original novel that don't always end up in other adaptations, and it didn't add anything extra. The common-core questions/vocabulary list were also really cute, and I forgot how fun it is to follow-up a read with some critical thinking on the text. Absolutely marvelous version of Peter Pan.
Too condensed, with artwork that is too cutesy. This is probably fun for young readers, but too much of the original novel gets eliminated, and it is a novel for young readers, at just 176 pages. This is 72 pages of boring story and artwork aimed at children.
This book if probably the best book you’ve made so far. I really like the picture and looks of the characters and backgrounds. I really enjoyed reading it and I recommend if you’re interested in trying out the maybe tell people about it. Great job J.M. Barrie!
Stumbled upon this book while reading the original 1911 Peter Pan text by J.M Barrie and I feel like reading it in graphics/animation form adds insights to the story that you would’ve never seen otherwise. Illustrations really does make a difference in your understanding or interpretation or even appreciation of a creative work. I felt even more sad when Peter “forgot” about Wendy though, than when reading it because in illustration it seems unlikely to happen unless he got tied up at Neverland in life or death situations.
A fairly simplified version. Lovely colours and decent art. It suffers from being too short and feeling very rushed - there's a quite a lot of telling rather than showing.
This was a cute, quick graphic with a summary feel to it. I think it got all the highlights of the original, including the most quotable lines. Overall, a good recap.
