Since the Garden of Eden, our true identities have been hacked--stolen and reprogrammed by Satan.
We were made for great things . . . but we live as though we're powerless. We were made in the image of a limitless God . . . but we walk through our daily lives as though we're inadequate.
God has an amazing plan for us. And the enemy is short-circuiting it.
When we don't recognize who we really are, we limit God. But when we grasp the truth of who we are in Christ, we can walk with authority into the realm of power reserved for each of God's children. We can heal the sick, cast out demons and deliver the captives.
We can see miracles and make a lasting impact for the Kingdom.
Don't settle for the glass ceiling constructed from the enemy's lies. Break through it. Exchange fear and doubt for a life of radical possibility.
Reclaim your true identity . . . and change the world.
Robby is a fifth-generation pastor who was born to missionary parents in Japan. Robby had an early start in ministry. In his father’s church, he began a children’s ministry at the age of 12, and became the youth minister at 16 years old. Robby says, “I knew from a young age that God had called me into ministry. My parents say that from the age of 2, I told people that I would grow up and be a missionary.” In many ways that has been the case in Robby’s life.
Robby and his wife Angie have been married for 25+ years and have 6 sons. He served as a youth pastor for 12 years for churches between 50 to 14,000 members before he and Angie planted a Vineyard church in the downtown area of Aurora, Illinois (Chicago area) in 1996. 70% of their church came to Christ at their church and 60% of that through Power encounters (Prophetic, Healing, Deliverance or ministry of God’s manifest presence). The mayor of Aurora along with its chief of police bestowed upon Robby and the Church an acknowledgment that he and the church made a significant difference in Aurora’s crime rate reduction.
Robby also ministers extensively as a conference speaker and a passionate Church equipper (in the U.S. and in 70+ countries) equipping in Power Evangelism. He was most recently featured in the movies “Furious Love” in 2010, “Father of Lights” in 2012, “Holy Ghost Reborn” in 2015, “Finger of God 2” in 2018 and has 2 more films with him being released in 2020. His book “Do What Jesus Did” was released in June 2013 and is on several Best Sellers lists in the UK, US and Europe. He then added “Identity Thief”, which was released in October 2015. His most recent book “Do Greater Things” was just released on January 1, 2018. He has been featured on Sid Roth’s “It’s Supernatural”, TBN’s “Praise the Lord” as well as a series titled “”Breaking Darkness”, “Today with Marilyn and Sarah”, as well as other programs on TBN, TBN UK and GOD TV. Robby is also a contributing writer for Charisma Magazine.
"Never forget who you are in Christ. If you have thoughts or feelings that make you feel bad about yourself, remember they come from the enemy. Do not believe Satan's lies. You are not who he says you are." (Robby Dawkins, Identity Thief, Page 226)
The author takes you through the story of his own life of how the Identity Thief, satan, has tried over and over again to steal his identity in Christ. He instructs his readers to trust what the Word of God says about you, rather than what you may be feeling in the moment.
This book was part autobiographical in that he explains his upbringing as a preacher's son. His father was a godly man at first; however, later on fell into sexual sin, and then the ministry was destroyed. As a young man, the author left his father's ministry, and became a youth pastor in various churches. He shares many struggles he has had when attempting to walking in his purpose, power and passion.
This book is about learning to listen to what God says about your identity, rather than what satan says, your feelings say or even another person may say about you. Satan often can even use those who are very close to you to hinder your destiny. We would do well to remember that even Jesus' own disciple Peter was used by the devil to make an attempt to thwart the will of God in Jesus' life (See Matthew 16:21-23)
As believers we are called to "Do What Jesus Did" Our identity can be found in no other. He says that when we start to respond to fulfill our spiritual identity, there will be some who try to hold you back and keep you from going forward. He says, "the source of their attempt is the Identity Thief. He will try to convince them you are prideful and arrogant and that they need to cut you down to size...Do not let the Identity Thief hold you back, and do not let him use others to hold you back, either."
Identity Thief is basically an account of the author's journey of faith. What an incredible story. The book is an honest testimony of everything Robby Dawkins went through, with God's help. He gives a lot of interesting historical background on the various church and revival movements in the USA as well as the struggles he encountered as a youth pastor and evangelist. The work of Satan is the work of the identity thief, as Dawkins clearly shows in this book. I found his story amazing and inspiring as well as unbelievable at some points. If there is one thing I have learned from this book, it is to never give up on God's calling on my life and never doubt the words God spoke to me, even if that means opposing the religious establishment. I hope this book will give you the courage to finish the journey well!
I heard Robby speak last weekend and I was amazed at how he allows God to speak and heal through him. He is fearless of others' opinions and just wants to do what God has given us authority to do.
This book emphasises all that and more. Couldn't put it down. Don't let the Identity Thief rob you.
This book is amazing. Plain and simple. I had an encounter just by reading one of the chapters. I was almost in tears and trembled throughout the rest of the day that day. I had no idea why but I knew it was God telling me that I needed to "Let it go." Sometimes in our lives we need to just give it all to Him. He will provide for you as long as you give yourself to Him fully. But one of the most poignant messages in the book is that "we cannot have a true relationship with people who do not know who we really are. But there is a tremendous power that comes from living in complete honesty when we share with others who we really are. This is the only way we can get back to being the salt and light God intends us to be." I took that to heart and want to continue that with my family and those around me. If you are trying to find your way through Christ or if you're just trying to find your way, you need to read this book.
There was a lot I liked about this book: the truth is we can't forget that we have an enemy whose plan is to steal, kill, and destroy. He wants to rob us of our true identity and keep us from fulfilling God's amazing plans and purposes. I appreciated Robby's candour in sharing stories from his and his family's personal life as well as from the lives of others. I did run into problems when he talked about his experiences with the "Toronto Blessing" and "holy laughter," as, with all due respect, I question the actual source of those supernatural experiences. Still, I have a number of positive take-aways and plan to read his other book, Do What Jesus Did.
READ IT READ IT READ IT!!! Sp totally worth it in my experience, take care and be gentle though if you have a "i HAVE to power evangelise/tell everyone/heal everyone guilt thing going on: it's not your job to save everyone alone. Trust me on this one. That being said: the stories! The growth journey of Mr Dawkins himself! The painful tale of a church group downfall and the Jesus who remains the sae yesterday, today, and forever. Love it.
Awesome book I pray we can all see ourselves as God's great masterpieces. "Just dive headfirst into the Jesus life. Have faith in Him. Step out in His power. God can and will use you to do what Jesus did. Live your true identity as a world changer!" Let's roll....
Dawkins is concerned that Christians are being duped by the identity thief. I think this book was misnamed. Something like Power Thief would have better described its content. In the end, he writes about the authority we have because we know Jesus, not about our righteousness nor the fruit of the Spirit. This book is not a study of our identity in Christ. It is about how the Thief has stolen our understanding of the power and authority we have in Christ. “I believe that as children of God, we can expect to walk in power and experience miracles on a constant basis.” The Thief has stolen that knowledge.
Dawkins tells lots of stories to illustrate his concern. Many of the stories are about those who have forgotten who they are in Christ. Many of these stories are about pastors who have gone astray. The other stories are about the author, his children, and others who have evidenced their faith in the authority and power they have in Christ. The book is a collection of stories illustrating his concern, not a Scriptural investigation into our identity in Christ.
If you want to read encouraging stories of people who exercised their spiritual authority, and heartbreaking stories of those who didn't, you will like this book. If you want to obtain a biblical strategy for battling the mind schemes the Thief employs, you will have to look elsewhere.
Dawkins encourages us to know the identity and birthright we have in Christ. He emphasizes the aspect of our being told to heal the sick and raise the dead. He encourages us to protect ourselves from the deceit and trickery of the Thief. We must do that by exercising our faith in what God says is true of us. The actual strategy is left up to us.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.
I picked it up tonight, ready to delve into it. I flipped through it first and it fell open to page 91, where I read:
"Have You Experienced Power Like This?
My son Judah was in a burger restaurant not long ago when he encountered another boy about his age with a broken leg."
To shorten this story, Judah asked the boy what happened, the boy answered that he broke a few days before, and Judah asked if it hurt and the boy answered it did.
"Well," Judah said, "if you let me pray for you right now, Jesus will completely heal your leg. He wants to show you how much He loves you and wants a relationship with you. So, can I pray for you?"
"Hey, everybody," Judah shouted, getting the attention of everyone in the restaurant. "You wanna see someone get healed? Come over here. A miracle is about to take place!"
Basically the author, Dawkins, is saying that his son was stepping out in faith. He was building an atmosphere of faith.
This one page, that I read before reading any others, made me decide to not read the book at all. It may be a hasty decision, I may be missing out on a book filled with wisdom and truth. Instead, by this one page, I feel that Dawkins is one of those people who believes that God will do what you ask Him to do. You know, not HIS will...but instead your own will.
I do believe in miracles. I do believe in praying. I do believe that God is stronger than satan. But I do not believe that WE have the power to heal the sick. I don't believe that WE can tell God what he should do. Reading just that one page made me realize I didn't want to read any more of this book.
This book was given to me by Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
This book is hard to put down once you start to read. Very eye opening. Robby not only gives you personal experience but can back up why he believes the way he does.
