Don't Stick Sticks Up Your Nose! Don't Stuff Stuff In Your Ears!

Rate this book
Over the last 17 years, Dr. Altman has treated hundreds of children and adults while garnering a well-earned reputation as an expert in otolaryngology. When he noticed there were no books about the dangers presented to children who place household objects in their nose and ears, he teamed up with friend and illustrator, Richard Jacobson, to fill the void.

“Dirty household objects that kids place in their nose and ears can lead to very serious health risks, such as infections, blocked airways, punctured eardrums and worse,” cautions Dr. Altman. “The financial expense and emotional trauma can also be extremely difficult for parents.”

Parents and kids alike will love Don’t Stick Sticks Up Your Nose! Don’t Stuff Stiff In Your Ears!, an engaging book written by ENT doctor Jerald Altman. Through clever rhymes and illustrations, it teaches children that noses and ears are for smelling and hearing—not for storing small objects.

This new edition includes cultural references for Jewish children that will keep them from “misplacing” dreidels and shofars—which corresponds nicely with the ancient blessing, Asher Yatzar.

My Review: Every household and nursery schools with a toddle should have a copy of “Don't Stick Sticks Up Your Nose! Don't Stuff Stuff In Your Ears!” This will help educate them before they start to experiment with a bean up their nose or trying to fit something into their ears.

The story told in rhyme is about keeping things like plants, food, small toys, rocks, pencils etc out of their ears and noses. Stuff like these can be very harmful to a child. Children must be taught that their ears are meant for listening/hearing and nose for smelling. The illustrations are funny, bold and colorful. I high recommend this book for classroom teaching.

FTC Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion in any way.

I won Don't Stick Sticks Up Your Nose! Don't Stuff Stuff In Your Ears! By Jerald S. Altman, M.D. and Richard Jacobson from Goodreads.
Children will giggle while learning an important lesson when reading Don't Stick Sticks Up Your Nose! Don't Stuff Stuff In Your Ears! By Jerald S. Altman, M. D. and Richard Jacobson. A froggie up your nose? There's an illustration of that! A pencil in your ear? There's an illustration of that, too. Yet, while children may laugh at the illustrations and appreciate the rhythm of the rhyme, they are sure to take away the lesson that they should never put objects where they don't belong and that they should protect their ears, eyes, and nose.
This is a wonderful, quick read. Adults who want to teach children these important lessons will find this book by Altman and Jacobson to be an effective resource.

A good, informational book for kids- especially kids with a tendency to stick things in their nose or ears.

What I liked:
It rhymed. It was silly, which will help keep kids' attention. It was informational.

What I didn't like:
The illustrations. They are very amateurish. The fact that the same line(paragraph?) is repeated so many times- unnecessarily repeated in many cases.

I received a copy via the Goodreads First Reads program.

Disclaimer: I got this book for the low price of FREE through the Goodreads giveaways.

This ain't advanced biochemistry. This book has one job and it does it in the only way we know how: chanting the title over and over again. Nothing wrong with that 'cause it's a kids book. Just ask my baby cousin.

Also extra points for the Jewish joke near the end. That will never slide in college campuses.

And Comic Sans.
