I knew the risk.
Knew there was a chance I might not come back to my wife or young daughter.
Or that if I did, I may never be the same man.
My duty outweighed those risks.
I wasn’t supposed to survive only to come home to an empty house.
My family was born to serve, chiseled from honor, forged in strength.
But something inside of me broke every time I watched someone take that step.
Every time I wondered if friends or family would return.
