House of Obsession #2

Reckless Obsession

Rate this book
The first time I saw Tristan Sinclair, I knew my whole world was going to revolve around him.

That was the first mistake.

The second was feeding into it.

Now it's eight years later, and I still want him.with the same violent certainty—only now it's bigger, meaner, impossible to contain. It's an obsession so deep in my bones I don't think even God Himself could carve it out of me.

And now he wants me too. I know it. I feel it every time he looks at me, every time he touches me like he's furious at himself for needing to, every time he drags me close only to shove me away again like distance is still an option. Like I'm too dangerous and reckless. Like letting me all the way in means watching his careful, controlled, world crack straight down the middle.

He's right.

I will crack and break it to pieces.

I'll crawl under his skin and take up permanent residence there until he can't think, breathe or exist without feeling me. I'll make sure there is nothing left of either of us but ashes, want, and the kind of possession that can't be undone.

I would destroy myself for him.

But not before I make him just as ruined for me.

Because I'm a Petrov.

And Petrovs don't walk away from obsession.

We consume it whole.

Reckless Obsession is a first person, dual pov MM dark romance about a mafia heir artist who is obsessed with his family’s lawyer. contains mature themes and trigger content, please check it out at the beginning of the book before diving in.

This book had everything it needed to be a 5-star read, but the last 30% was incredibly disappointing.

Maksim running off to Italy with his former lover and having sex with him during a breakup that lasted three months. My God, for someone who claims to be madly, obsessively in love, he sure has an easy time having sex with someone else. It wasn't six months or a year, it was THREE MONTHS. Dude, you can't go three months without sex while suffering over the guy who hurt you?

Honestly, so disappointing.

I'm not even going to get into Tristan and how incredibly stupid he was.

Edit. 10/26/2026

Wow. There are so many people here I wasn't expecting to see! LMAO.

This was a review I felt was important to write because it's the kind of thing I would want to know before starting a book, precisely so I could prepare myself emotionally. To me, knowing beforehand that something is going to happen is very different from discovering it while reading, when you've already developed certain expectations for the story, become emotionally invested in the characters, and started trusting the direction their relationship is taking. Having that information in advance doesn't necessarily mean the reading experience will be ruined, but it gives me the chance to decide whether I'm emotionally prepared to deal with that kind of situation.

This author had become the kind of author you trust, you know? The kind who makes you feel safe, like he's not going to introduce sex with other people after the two MCs have already confessed their feelings for each other.

So I went into this book with a false sense of security because of the first one. I knew there would be drama involving another character, but I didn't expect it to happen so close to the end.

Honestly, I think the author could have used the breakup and the trip to Italy to explore the friendship between Dante and Maksim. But did he really have to make them have sex? And after everything Maksim went through with Tristan, he still went and slept with Dante. All of this after that scene where Tristan, consumed by jealousy, asks Maksim to stop talking to Dante.

And now, just because Tristan made >that< completely stupid decision, he has to accept Dante being part of Maksim's life? Because, as we find out in the epilogue, the two of them are still talking.

Anyway, this whole experience has taught me one thing: from now on, I'll have to check Reddit and ask about the plot of this author's next book before I start reading.

Edit. 10/28/26

Once again, this has blown up way more than I expected. And yes, I saw the author’s post and I have a few things to say. I just want to make it clear that this is the last time, and I’m moving on.

Some people are accusing me of not knowing how to live in the real world: that people are like this, that people have sex with other people. Dude, it’s true, that’s how the world is. Nobody is celibate, people cheat, people sleep with 4 different people at the same time, people are promiscuous, people sleep with others during a breakup, even if they get back together later, and it’s all fine.

Now, am I the one who’s wrong? Me, who’s going to spend my time reading, investing my energy and my feelings in something, I’m wrong for looking for a dark romance (and for some people it’s the height of absurdity that I’d read a dark romance and be shocked by what happened) that has the obsessive/possessive tags, and for genuinely expecting that, after the two characters declare themselves, they live that romance without sleeping with anyone else? Seriously, people are shocked that ME, in MY reading time, am looking for this? Just like there are people who want to read about promiscuous characters, just like they want to read about virgin characters, just like they want to read about cheating, I’M the one who’s wrong.

I didn’t criticize the writing, I didn’t criticize the author or attack them. I simply said: “I was disappointed that Maksim slept with someone else during the three-month breakup.” And the people WHO DON’T WANT TO READ THAT sympathized with me and wrote a warning for the OTHER PEOPLE WHO DON’T WANT TO READ THAT.

Do you want those people to read this book and attack the author? That’s what you want, right? Nobody left a bad rating, the book’s rating didn’t drop drastically. The people who don’t mind sex with other people will still read those comments and keep reading, and the ones who don’t want it can skip it. Why is it so hard to understand?

Now, about the author’s post: lots of comments calling me stupid, clueless, fucked up for not knowing how to interpret a text, for not understanding MAKSIM’s pain. The author and many other people are basically saying this, that I can’t interpret. And I’m not lying: before you attack me, go read the comments and the post. “Maksim has this personality disorder, so it’s normal that he goes on this trip and has sex with someone else. How can this person not understand the beauty, the purity of that scene in a moment of vulnerability?” Well, let me tell you: if Maksim had gone on this trip and at no point had sex with Dante, and in that moment of desperation had tried to kiss him, it would have been so much more desperate and conveyed so much more desperation and pain. But the author can write it however they want, the story is theirs, just like I can choose which story I want to read, what I like and what I don’t.

My outrage wasn’t only about Maksim sleeping with someone else, it was about him sleeping with Dante, a man Tristan already felt jealous of and about whom he asked Maksim to stop talking. In this reply here I explain better what I felt, and I kindly ask that you take a moment to read it.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Now, the last point: the author and many people are saying the scene was implied, that it was a one-line comment. In fact, it was a paragraph, which I’ll leave here.

“Amore—”
“Kiss me.”
“Maksim.”
“You don’t want to?” I ask, and I hear the edge creeping into my voice. The old panic. The old instinct to turn uncertainty into rejection before it can turn into anything worse. “We kiss all the time.” We do. We kiss in kitchens and doorways. We kiss after wine, after laughter, after long days spent walking under too much sun. Sometimes the kissing becomes sex. Sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes we end up tangled together in bed, warm and half-asleep, with no need to explain what we are doing.

That a kiss scene follows right after, because Maksim kisses Dante and it’s explicit,

It still bothered me, because my imagination ran wild there, especially because of the comments MAKSIM HIMSELF MAKES ABOUT SLEEPING WITH DANTE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK.

“I’ll see you soon, Amore mio,” Dante says, his longing gaze turning serious. “Did I hurt you too much?”
I gently rub my wrist, still tender from the cuffs, and offer him a faint smile. “Not at all. I liked it. A lot.”

-
I hate how my cock twitches hard at the thought, how heat coils low and vicious in my gut. I hate that Dante’s thick cock slamming into me still feels like a pale fucking imitation of the way Tristan fucked the hell out of me that night two years ago.
-
No one touches that. Dante teases the edge, makes me come hard—but it’s still not Tristan’s brutal ownership, not the way Tristan had choked me while he fucked my throat raw the other day till I’m dripping and marked.

So no, it wasn’t explicit, but I still understood that, during those 3 months, they have hot sex. Whether it’s once a week or once a day, I don’t know, because I can imagine whatever I want.

As if, just because it’s implied, I should be able to ignore it. Like: “girl, it wasn’t even explicit, why are you focusing on that?” Dude, I don’t know about you, but when I read, I put myself in the characters’ place, and in that specific moment I put myself in Tristan’s place. So, he’s jealous as fuck. How was he feeling with Dante and Maksim in Italy having vulnerable sex, because that’s what people are saying, that just because it’s healing sex, it’s all fine? So yes, I’d prefer that, in a breakup of a measly 3 months, the character focus on what he’s feeling. I want him to feel disgusted at the mere thought of touching someone else, I want him to suffer for feeling that way, because he knows he’s free and doesn’t owe the other person anything. But crazy/obsessive/possessive love is like that, and that’s what I expected to find.

That’s it. Thank you so much to everyone who’s commenting. And, to the author: next time, include in the content warnings “the MCs have sex with other people.” If you had, I wouldn’t have even read the book, and none of this would have happened. Me not reading your book wouldn’t be a bad thing, it’s simply something I don’t like. I respect your desire to put the characters with other people, just as I ask that you respect me and respect everyone else who doesn’t want to read that.

If you keep writing, I’ll ask on the subreddit to make sure none of this happens again. I won’t stop following you because of this, because I loved the first book, about how both of them are completely devoted to each other. And I really hope you don’t stop writing. I have nothing against you or your writing, it was simply the character’s behavior that I didn’t relate to, and it made me sad in that moment. But that has passed, I’m moving on to the next read. Thank you, everyone.

unsafe. avoid

Edit: It’s not my place to say (I’ll say it anyway), but the author and her readers should really go to therapy. This isn’t the first time she’s posted such a long, defensive rant over something she saw online and it wasn’t even anything cruel, just a reader providing a content warning. I will always support readers sharing content warnings, as they help protect me from storylines I know I’ll hate. You can’t take that away from readers, nor should you turn it into an opportunity for an attack just because you don’t like having things pointed out.

Note to self‼️

Per other reviewer ( link below), in the last 30% and during a 3-month separation, one MMC runs off to Italy with a former lover and have sex with them during that period.

Absolutely not!
Readers personal pages should remain a safe place to discuss some very valid content warnings.
It is disappointing to see that discussion space for this book is being policed and readers are being targeted just for sharing safety details and honest thoughts.
Goodreads is a place for reader transparency, not censorship and silencing anyone.
My friends’ reviews and comment sections are being harassed and attacked (for posting some important details on safety).
This is not an acceptable behaviour!
I cannot recommend this book based on the content, safety issues and everything else…

UPDATE I did read (and loved!) the first book, but am even more not interested in this one simply because Maksim wasn't for me. He's one of those people who pokes at people to get a reaction from them, even when he doesn't know them and might be upsetting them. (I'm looking at Lucas, yes.)

This book is a definite nope for me, and sounds like a letdown for readers who have my trigger and believed in the romance. This is not touch him and die, not like book 1. At about 70%, there's a separation, and one MC Uh. NO. Not my fantasy. That is not obsession; that is weak, watered-down, "someone else will do just as well or better," and I'm not here for that. That would be so upsetting I would cry.

Here is a direct quote from the book,That turns out to not be true, and that is the issue for readers with my trigger. It's not obsession if there's enjoyable OP action in this kind of late-book circumstances. Fair, realistic, but, not what I'm dying for in a read.

Have at it, OP-action-positive peeps. This one's for you. For real, book 1 delivered a terrific read, so, if that kind of event toward the end of a romance won't keep you from believing in it, I hope you love this book! And I'm looking forward to book 3, hoping it'll be another great one for me.

See @Sarah's note, and from there the review she refers to, by @Duda. Following you now too.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

(Actually now see all the comments under those reviews... 😱. When people don't understand OP action as a trigger, they REALLY don't understand it. It's not I KNOW it isn't technically cheating; that means nothing.)

I was gonna finish this because I adored Beautiful Obsession so much but lemme just tell you that this book was not it.
-
I'm only 41% in and I find the characters insufferable. I also find Tristan's ex showing up all of the damn time increasingly annoying. I'm just annoyed and stressed out when reading this book and I'm not about that energy right now.
I also saw a review about what happens in the last 30% and let's just say... if I had read that on my own, I would've been fuming. So I guess I dodged a bullet with this one.
I may check out Vee Eddy's new releases when they eventually come out because of how much I loved her debut but this was a major disappointment for me. Oh well. Onto the next read!

Omggggg🩷 I absolutely loved the first book, so I was really excited to read more about this family, and this did not disappoint!!!!!!!!! Tristan and Maksim’s relationship, the tension and the emotions had me hooked. There were moments when my heart genuinely hurt for Maksim especially seeing how deeply he loved Tristan. I loved the family dynamics, the chemistry and omggg the trio🥹 I can’t wait to read more about this family and see what Vee Eddy has in store for us next ❤️

This book is a rage bait book i swear. Both maksim and Tristan pissing me the f off coz what the hell. The whole book is just a lack of communication from both sides which you understand at first but then it dragggggggggggssssss. Also a bit of a turn off that maskim claims to be obsessed with Tristan and only wants him but fucks another guy????. And Jake poping out every two seconds. A LOT of these chapters felt unnecessary coz NOTHING was actually happening. I genuinely had to force myself to painful finish this book only because i loved the first book.

The angst became a little tedious with some superficial endings ‘like kissing and shooting a man at the same time.’ But when the yearning is done right, who am I to judge.

i was so excited for this book bcos i absolutely loved the author’s first book, thus i am sorely disappointed that i didn’t love this because i absolutely despise a 3rd act break up.

maksim and tristan’s relationship was just full of miscommunication which was understandable at first but it drags on too long. i just kept thinking to myself that they’re both adults so they should Talk.

i was close to dnf-ing the book especially when they separated (tristan’s refusal to explain was so frustrating) but since it was like 70% through the book, i skimmed it till the end.

also a little note: i saw the author’s ig post and i do not agree with them at all. the reviewer didn’t say anything negative nor were they trashing the book or the author. it does not give the author any right to publicly blast them out like that. i also believe that authors should stay out of reader’s space.

I love Maksim so much.
ARC review.

Edit- 29th October
Because of the people in the reviews attacking the author & people supporting her, attacking her characters for not being perfect & using s*x during a break up when Maksim has BDP & tends to use s*x as a way to work through stuff. He literally says that at the beginning of the book!

I'm upping my rating.

This is a Maksim & Dante fan club Dante is an amazing friend when Maksim needs him the most & those people in the reviews are making it sound like something bad.

Queer. Relationships. Do. Not. Require. Content. Warnings!!!

Stop shaming queer relationships for not being perfect puritanical monogamous relationships.

Yeah so I love Maksim, he is such a spitfire as Tristan calls him. He definitely has a place in my heart & i wanted to hug him & stop him from being hurt & feeling unlovable because of how Tristan treated him for much of the book.

I did enjoy the book, especially the friendship of Maksim, Lucas & Tyler! Omg Tyler's book i can't wait for that.

Now on to Tristan i wanted to love him but some of what he did really upset me especially when he knew about Maksim's past & MH. He should have told Maksim what Jake was doing & like Anton said the family would have helped.

I also feel like Maksim's childhood trauma was skipped like we knew what happened when he was 10 & then when he was 14 but they weren't dealt with i would have liked more about both things that happened.

I am glad I read the whole book & I'm happy that they got a happy ending.

I definitely need more of Dante & I'm sorry but he was so much better for Maksim IMO.

Arc reader:

Oh, my baby M 🥹
No spoilers ❤️

It is rare to find a story where both protagonists are equally compelling in their own right while being twice as powerful whenever they share the page. With two unforgettable leads, rich backstories, and an undeniable spark that holds the narrative together, this book is an absolute must-read for anyone who loves character-driven storytelling at its finest.

If you’re looking for a book with chemistry that practically burns through the page, this is it. While the story delivers on plot and character development, the absolute standout feature is the overwhelming, high-voltage heat between the two.🔥

If you are a fan of M/M age-gap romances where the emotional baggage is heavy, the backstories run deep, this book needs to be at the absolute top of your reading list.

This book is an emotional rollercoaster in the best possible way. You will laugh, cry, get angry, hurt, and ultimately fall head over heels in love with Maksim and Tristan’s story.

I have been giddy waiting for this book and it did NOT disappoint! Once again, Vee Eddy delivers a masterpiece that rips your heart out, stomps all over it, and then puts it back together again. This one puts you through the emotional wringer: frustration, anger, hope, heartbreak, devastation, love, joy. I cried and laughed, while also wanting to throw my kindle across the room! This is absolutely a dark romance, so check TW!!

Both of these MMC have strong-willed and stubborn to a fault personalities. It was so interesting to read a story with this type of dynamic. I was immensely frustrated with both of them at one point or another during the story. Maksim is pure chaos at times, but when he crashes from his highs, his lows truly make him see himself as an unlovable burden to his family and friends. My heart just broke for him at times. Tristian frustrated me the most. He couldn’t find his backbone for most of the book, and when he finally did, he made stupid decisions. Watching these two open up to one another was beautiful, but the constant cat and mouse was intense! Their chemistry was off the charts and the spice was spicin’! And the KARMA that was served!? Perfection!

This was a well paced, action and curveball packed, story that makes you bear witness to a HARD won HEA! Don’t hesitate to pick this one up!

I am absolutely obsessed with this book!

I thought it would be a struggle to top how much I loved Beautiful Obsession (book 1) but Vee delivered!! Even if I will be sending my therapy bill for the chapters I sobbed over 🤣.

I was only a handful of pages in when I decided I would burn the world down for Maksim. The portrayal of his mental health and the impact on him was beautifully written, really resonated and absolutely broke me.

Tristan is obsessive, possessive dominant and absolutely feral for his spitfire - all the key qualities I love in an MMC 🔥

The spice was absolutely filthy, every single scene stood out for me 🤣

However, this book does have a lot of dark themes so I would advise checking the TW's.

I love Vee's writing and can't wait for the rest of the series - an absolute 5 star read for me.

HELL YEAH, REDEMPTION 👹🙌

I made it no secret how much I didn’t like the first book in this series. To date, it’s my longest, most scathing review I’ve ever written. This book pretty much shares none of what I hated about the first book and I am so tickled that I liked this one as much as I did!

I really try to give books/authors second chances (sometimes even third, fourth, and fifth chances), and sometimes that works in my favor, and sometimes I still don’t mesh with their work. And this is one of those times that I am pleasantly surprised by an author!

Maksim and Tristan are worlds apart from Alex and Lucas and their story was actually interesting and dynamic! I’ve always had a problem with the trope of: “broken boy gets rescued by rich mafia daddy” and they were no exception. I found their book to be too long, tiresome, and illogical at best, downright boring/silly/unbearable at worst. This book was fun! I loved the unhinged nature of it. I loved the BPD representation. I loved that both Tristan and Maksim had personalities!

Maksim was especially fun to read. I love crazy characters and I love crazy characters that are hiding vulnerabilities and insecurities and think that they’re unlovable (and I LOVE when they discover that they ARE in fact lovable). Maksim was a good balance of insane and clingy and threatening, while also being interesting, vulnerable, and, at times, relatable. Yeah, I don’t go around threatening to kill people or burning their cars, but hell yeah, I could relate to Maksim feeling like he was too much work or too damaged for love! He had enough personality to make him fun to read about and to follow, but he still felt realistic and accessible to me. There were a lot of times I was reading the book and I just wanted to cradle him to my chest and protect him from getting hurt.

He’s an unhinged, damaged psycho, but he’s also just a baby 😭

I also liked Tristan! Not as much as Maksim, but I do like characters that are prim and proper and mature, but form undone by their love interest. YUMMY. And I loved how he spoke to Maksim and just eventually learned to humor/go along with Maksim’s antics and moods. It was actually really sweet how he just started catering to him. He’s push back for show, but it was clear that Tristan was fully on board for the ride. Their dynamic was fun and I never got bored reading the back and forth between them. Their banter was funny, the threats, the spice, and I love that none of this washed away when they really started falling for each other.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, takes the interest out of me faster than when two characters who have spark or chemistry lose it once they start forging a deeper connection. And thankfully, this didn’t happen between Tristan and Maksim. Of course their edges softened toward one another and they became a tiny bit kinder and more loving, but they still butt heads and griped at each other and had banter.

I also thought the writing in this book was light years ahead of where it was in the last book. The writing style, in the prose especially, in Beautiful Obsession was borderline unreadable for me. The dialogue was a little stilted, the characters were one dimensional and stale, and the romance was pretty much nothing. This book had a lot of improvement in….everything. The characters were dynamic and interesting, the romance was fun, and the prose was really good! There was a lot of imagery and descriptions that really enjoyed and I was so surprised by, considering how much I hated the prose in the first book. Even the dialogue had improved so much in this book, to the point where I was grinning/chuckling a couple of times while reading this.

I also really enjoyed the friendship trio of Maksim, Tyler, and Lucas. I found their parts in the story to be really cute and sweet and a nice little sorbet in the middle of a pretty angsty story at times. I still don’t really like Lucas, but I really do enjoy Tyler as a character and I really liked his friendship specifically with Maksim. Again, I pretty much only liked Tyler in the last book, so it was nice to read about side characters in this book that I actually enjoyed.
And speaking of side characters, I also really loved Dante. I just love an older, wise man. I thought he was so sweet and patient and I loved who he was to Maksim and I’m glad that he was an actual character and not just a creepy side piece for Maksim.

I did give this book four stars because as much as I enjoyed it, there were still some things that didn’t work for me:

One — I personally have no problems with Dantegate™️, AKA: Maksim sleeping with Dante during his escape in Italy, though I can understand why people would have a problem with it. I read it as Maksim basically having everything he’d ever wanted (a partner who truly loved/cared for him, vacation in Italy, creating art, etc.), but it still not being enough because it wasn’t with Tristan. And, the description of them having sex was vague enough that I was fine with it. Had it been more explicit, I probably would’ve not been too thrilled, but again, that’s a personal preference for me.

So what’s the problem?

The problem is, I find the whole reason for Maksim running off to Italy to be very….unnecessary.

I have always had an issue with characters blackmailing other characters into breaking up with their love interest, because more often than not, it’s a very solvable issue, and this book is no exception. If your blackmail can be resolved within one or two chapters, it is not enough to separate your two characters for an extended period of time. Tristan ends up breaking up with Maksim, so Maksim runs off to Italy for three months and then when he comes back, he ignores Tristan for another two(ish) weeks, so for the sake of brevity, let’s say they were separated for about 3 1/2 months. They end up fully back together, all problem solved, and the blackmail not even coming to fruition within two chapters. To me, that does not satisfy them being broken apart in the first place.

If all it took was Maksim doing his own research and undoing what Jake did and then orchestrating his death, Tristan should’ve just told him in the first place. It just ends up being unnecessary because it was so easy to fix in the first place. And so to me, it didn’t need to happen. Now, if the author had written this as Tristan knowing that he could’ve gone to Maksim and told him what Jake was planning, but he didn’t because he didn’t entirely trust the relationship, or he wasn’t fully invested in their relationship until he lost Maksim, then I think I could’ve gotten on board with this.

But you’re telling me that Tristan, who works very closely with this mafia family, truly thought that there was absolutely no way Maksim or his family could’ve gotten Maksim out of the situation or even out of legal trouble had Jake gone to the police with his evidence??? I don’t believe you! I truly do not believe you. To me, this just ended up being drama for drama’s sake, and while I did eat up the tension/angst because yum, I just found it to be underwhelming and unnecessary.

Two — as much as I enjoyed some of the side characters in this book, there were too many in my opinion, and not all of them serve served much purpose. Igor, Jamie, Viktor, and Alex honestly did not have to be in this book at all. Anton served a little bit of a purpose, so I was fine with him being in it, and Tyler and Lucas were fine as well. But there were a couple of scenes in this book that we spent with other characters and I just didn’t find them entirely necessary. Especially when it was pretty clear that the author was setting up future books in this series.

Giving us some hints here and there about who’s gonna be in the next book and stirring up some interest for that couple is not a problem for me. But it is sort of a problem when it seems like we’re getting plot points for the next book sprinkled into this one and that the future couples are getting a page time in this book multiple times throughout it. And I’m specifically talking about Tyler and Viktor. I think we had them mentioned like four or five times in this book, and it wasn’t just a little section, it was a couple of chunks of the book that we were spending talking about them in their future situation.

And listen, I’m on board for their book, and I’m looking forward to reading it, but to spend time building up interest in their connection in a book about a different couple, I find to be strange. I don’t want to read about what’s gonna happen in their book before their book even comes out. I’m reading this book for Tristan and Maksim, so I want to read about them!

All in all, I am so pleasantly surprised by this book! I didn’t have high hopes after struggling with the first book as much as I did, but I have to say I am so happy that I gave this book a shot, and I ended up really enjoying it! I hope that the third book of the series, which I’m assuming is going to be about Tyler and Viktor, is as good as this book, and isn’t reminiscent of the first book in the series. Way to go, Vee! 🥳🙌

This book was such a delicious rollercoaster. I couldn't put it down.

Maksim is the youngest son of a powerful Bratva family, and he is a walking storm of trauma, chaos, impulsivity, low self-esteem, and abandonment issues. Living with borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder, he has more than his fair share of struggles.

The second 14-year-old Maksim meets 24-year-old Tristan, he becomes completely and utterly obsessed with him. Tristan becomes his whole world.

But Tristan doesn't look at Maksim twice because, to him, he's just a kid. Besides, even if he was not, Tristan is in love with his boyfriend, Jake.

Years pass, and Maksim spends them pining, yearning, suffering, and stalking Tristan from afar. He watches him find happiness, get married, and eventually get divorced, all while dreaming of having his man someday.

The day Tristan signs his divorce papers, Maksim finally gets to sleep with him for the first time. Only for Tristan to disappear for two whole years afterward.

And all of this happens before the actual book! I recommend reading book one first, because Maksim talks about and it helps to fully appreciate the feeling of starting the book in the middle of their story.

The story of the book picks up two years after their first night together, with Tristan finally returning to town and immediately going back to trying to avoid Maksim like the plague. Unfortunately for him, fighting the attraction burning deep in his soul is much easier said than done. He can't stop thinking about Maksim, and he can't seem to stay away from him either.

So Maksim keeps pushing and they keep falling into each other's arms, one way or another, only for Tristan to run away and put distance between them every single time, leaving Maksim heartbroken all over again.

Their push and pull is toxic, spicy, and absolutely delicious. Both of them are unhinged in their own way and complete each other. They banter, fight and can't stay away from each other for too long, and with every moment they spend together, their feelings become harder to deny.

I already loved Maksim after book one, but this book made me give him my entire heart. He is fierce, fiery, stubborn, chaotic, reckless and beautiful. He is my baby now, and I would help him burn private property anytime.

I wanted to punch Tristan for half of the book, but ok, I forgave him in the end.

My heart broke for Maksim, and I actually cried reading this book. Vee Eddy really has a special talent for ripping my heart out and leaving me to deal with the emotional damage.

Watching eight years of yearning, obsession, and unrequited love finally find a home was such a thrill. The road there was hard and torturous, but seeing these two finally find their way to each other made every frustrating moment worth it.

No matter how much people tried to keep them apart, these two were made for each other, and they were ready to burn the world down for one another, exactly as it should be.

Every minute of this book was amazing, exciting, frustrating, and delicious all at once. I knew Vee wouldn't disappoint me, and I was absolutely right.

If you love age gaps, toxic relationships, an obsessed MC, and a deep, unforgettable love that survives years of yearning and heartbreak, this one is for you. Go ahead and enjoy this delicious little joy!

I recieved an arc of this book and this is my honest review

EARLY READER COPY REVIEW by C.D. Waring

Okay, FIRST OF ALL, can we talk about the bipolar and BPD representation in this book?! Because WOW. I have to rave about how beautifully Eddy wrote Maksim's mental health struggles. The emotions, the mania, the depression, the switches, EVERYTHING. I felt so understood and could relate to so much of what Maksim was feeling. Being inside his head and experiencing those emotions alongside him made this book hit so much harder for me.

Now, MAKSIM PETROV. When I first met this chaotic man in the first book, I wasn't entirely sure how I felt about him. By the end, he'd grown on me, BUT THIS BOOK?! Oh, I absolutely fell in love with him and wanted nothing more than for him to get his man and his HEA! Maksim is loud, chaotic, reckless, and a little (okay, A LOT) unhinged, but he's SO much more than that. He's loyal, protective, loving in his own way, and underneath all that chaos is someone who's been through so much. Trauma can make you withdraw, put up walls, and convince yourself that nowhere and no one is safe. Eddy wove that beautifully into Maksim's story, and seeing him finally get the love and happiness he deserved made me emotional.

THEN THERE'S TRISTAN. Oh, Tristan, sir. You and I had some issues at first. I wasn't your biggest fan, BUT as I got to know you, your pain, and everything you went through (JAKE, I'M LOOKING AT YOU), I started understanding you so much more. And honestly? Tristan and Maksim really do deserve each other. They're obsessive, possessive, messy, and sometimes downright toxic, BUT THAT'S THEM. Their love isn't conventional, and it certainly isn't perfect, but they understand each other in ways others don't. They both have something the other desperately needs, and watching them figure that out was EVERYTHING.

I cried with them, laughed with them, wanted to shake them a few times (lovingly, of course), and by the time we reached that well-earned HEA, MY HEART WAS SO FULL. AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE SIDE CHARACTERS?! Seeing Lucas and Tyler again made me SO HAPPY! I absolutely adore their friendship and dynamic. And the brotherly bonding with Alex and Anton?! THAT CONVERSATION?! Yeah, I cried. AGAIN. Vee Eddy really delivered with this one. The emotional depth, the mental health representation, the complicated characters, the friendships, the romance, and the healing made this such a memorable read for me.

Reckless Obsession did NOT disappoint!

Now I'm over here impatiently waiting for Tyler's story because THAT MAN IS MY FAVORITE AND I NEED HIS BOOK ASAP!

Reckless Obsession was so much more than what I expected. Tristan and Maksim are both deeply complicated characters who simultaneously tugged at my heart strings and made me want to scream with frustration. I went into this book expecting Maksim to be a bratty mess who would mostly just make me want to roll my eyes. While Tristan I assumed would be our always calm and collected, wise older MMC. Instead they both proved me wrong!

Maksim definitely has his unhinged moments but wow was he written so unbelievably well. I cried multiple times reading this book and every time was because of Maksim and his internal struggle / mental health. He was such a beautifully complex character who held so much emotion inside. I hated his struggle but getting to see how he not only grew as a person but learned to let people in was really moving. And while I can’t say Tristan was my favorite character by a long shot, I was so happy Maksim got everything he wanted by the end.

Tristan was a character I was not prepared to dislike as much as I did. I understand he had his reasons for some of his actions but he was such a fool. I thought going into this book he would be as confident and collected as Alex was in book one, but Tristan is a mess. Maksim had to fight against his own brain and trauma to overcome a lot of his struggles but Tristan mostly just had to grow a backbone. I was kind of shocked at how little respect I held for Tristan for a good 70% of the book. He let so many people walk all over him and while he had his own emotional struggles, his actions towards Maksim were downright emotionally abusive sometimes.

While the romance was complicated and very messy it somehow remained very sweet a lot of the time. I expected angst and of course there was a lot, but even through the most difficult scenes to read there was so much passion and love. Not even just between the MMCs but familial and friendly love. I loved the romance (at least by the end) but I think the side characters and family stole so many scenes from our MMCs.

It’s a testament to how well Vee Eddy writes that despite the length of the book I didn’t feel like we got enough time with these characters. I cannot wait for the series to continue and to delve deeper into this very complicated world and cast of characters. The writing was intense and beautiful and even with an MMC who I didn’t like half the time, I couldn’t put this book down or stop rooting for Tristan and Maksim to get their HEA.

Tropes: Mutual Pining, Mental Health Rep, Age Gap, Obsessive / Possessive, Secret Relationship, Mafia Prince / Lawyer MMCs, Dual POV
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3/5
Relationship: MM

4.2 ⭐️

A messy, unapologetically chaotic descent into obsessive desire, and bone-deep healing! Vee Eddy returns with Reckless Obsession, a fiercely intense, high-stakes dark romance that hits you like an emotional freight train. Balancing high mafia tension with deeply vulnerable mental health representation, this book plunges headfirst into the turbulent, all-consuming orbit of two men whose history is forged in repressed yearning, frustration, and a love that simply refuses to stay quiet.

The story centers on Maksim Petrov; the chaotic, brilliant, and beautifully broken son of a powerful mafia family who has spent years harboring a fierce, consuming fixation on Tristan Sinclair, the syndicate’s stone-cold family lawyer. Tristan is an immovable force of control, keeping his life locked down tight... until Maksim walks into the room and starts systematically unravelling his composure. Thrown right into the dense, tangled web of their long-standing history, the narrative follows their explosive push-and-pull dynamic as they navigate family loyalty, mental health struggles, and a relentless, unholy tension that burns right through the page. Maksim is the heart and soul of this book, chaotic, sharp, deeply lonely, and entirely unforgettable. Watching him battle his internal demons, navigate his bipolar personality disorder, and slowly realize he is actually worthy of love and safety will utterly wreck you in the best way possible. Maksim captured my entire heart from page one. Be prepared for tears! Between Tristan’s frustrating stubborn cold facade and Maksim's raw vulnerability, every single high and low hits with an absolute force. Trust me, Tristan had me wanting to throw my Kindle across the room for a good chunk of the story, his frustrating choices had me ready to riot! This is not a slow burn! Backed by years of suppressed longing, the intimacy between Tristan and Maksim is blistering, filthy, and kinky, yet shockingly tender. Every touch is loaded with emotional stakes, jealousy, and possessive devotion.

While the romance between Maksim and Tristan is all-consuming, the true heartbeat of this book lies in its portrayal of love between family and chosen bonds. Watching Maksim grapple with his mental health and finally lean into the unconditional love of his parents, his fiercely protective father and deeply comforting mother, was nothing short of therapeutic. And let’s not forget the incredible brotherhood, the heartwarming cameos from our beloved favorites like Lucas and Ty, and the absolute comfort found in Dante’s unwavering, gentle care (I rooted for him a little). In a world full of mafia grit and chaos, seeing Maksim realize he doesn’t have to carry his burdens alone, and watching a fractured family slowly stitch itself back together with tenderness, added a layer of emotional depth that made this book so much more than just a romance.

Vee Eddy somehow managed to take a character as chaotic and wild as Maksim and make him one of my favorite broken boys; I just wanted to reach into the pages, wrap him in a blanket, and tell him he’s worthy of all the love in the world. I devoured reading him and Tristan claw their way through years of messy history. If you’re a fan of high-angst mafia romance, chaotic characters who ruin your sleep schedule, and a romance that hurts just as good as it heals, you need to pick this up!

while i adored this book and i cried for Maksim a lot, i didnt expect to not like Tristan. at first we see him trying not to give in to his urges. he didnt wanna trust people again he didnt wanna fall in love again. he was also a very complex character and i understand why he was so insecure about some things and why he was so hesitant. but after he finally realized he was stuck with Maksim cause he could never leave him, i thought he would tell maksim about jake threatening him and holding laverage over him? like he was lowkey doing so good like why would the author make his character a complete coward? a 180 if u will? cause what was the point? also making a side character have too much power over Maksim? why would u make a character like Dante a perfect boyfriend material while almost destroying THE male lead's character like that? to make Maksim see that he craves the thrill and the challenge Tristan gives him? why would u try to highlight that by making Dante better than him😭😭like i genuinely thought oh wow they shouldve just gotten together instead? a perfect Italy trip how romantic. i know he was necessary for Maksim's character development but i hated that like im so sorry. Maksim wanted to go there w the love of his life and instead found peace and literally got better mentally w freaking "dante" like ohmygod..... so cliche. and i hated that some people didnt like the first book being too long. i WISH this book was longer. they got together awfully fast. i wanted to READ their romantic dates. their getaways. just their love. author described every little detail while Dante and Maksim were in Italy but we couldnt even get a single moment with them? their banter and how they spent time together on their vacations? it was always three months later. three weeks later. MY GODDDD UGH. i loved the first book but i guess i hate when this trope ruins all the fun. my ex is threatening me so i should protect my lover. when he literally has the most powerful family like ever. despite everything i still loved the book so idk what that says about me lol.

“Now open that pretty mouth. I’m going to show you exactly who’s in charge here.”

I love this book on an entirely different level. This book was absolutely fucking amazing.

I thought it was hard to get over my love for Beautiful Obsession, but GOD ALMIGHTY, here we are again, with me struggling to pick a favorite. And when I tell you this is a HARD decision, I mean it. I loved this book SO much.

I knew when Vee said we were going to be crying with this one that I was in for an emotional roller coaster, and she was absolutely right. I cried at so many different moments throughout this book, and I was not prepared for how deeply these characters would affect me.

Let's start with Maksim.

Maksim is PURE CHAOS. That is honestly the best way I can describe this man. But underneath all that chaos was someone who struggled so much with his identity, his self-worth, and where he fit into the lives of the people around him. His mental health diagnosis played such a significant role in how he viewed himself, his relationships, and his place in the world. It was heartbreaking watching him struggle to recognize his own worth, especially when his symptoms made it difficult for him to see himself the way others did.

There were SO many moments when I wanted to reach through the pages, grab that man by his shoulders, and make him understand that he was worthy of love, friendship, and happiness. Watching him battle with himself was one of the most emotional parts of this entire book for me.

And then we have Tristian.

Tristian was this seemingly immovable force, and while I understood where he was coming from, I'm not going to lie, that man FRUSTRATED ME. His inconsistency rubbed me the wrong way on more than one occasion. I knew his intentions were good, but there were moments when I wanted to shake some sense into him because SIR, WHAT ARE WE DOING?!

HOWEVER, once that man was IN, he was ALL IN. And when I tell you that made all the difference, it really did. The way his devotion developed and how he showed up for Maksim made their relationship that much more meaningful.

Now, let me also say that I was EXTREMELY happy that the people who needed to get dealt with GOT DEALT WITH. Because BABY, some of these people had me ready to fight. And quite frankly, there are still a few more people I wouldn't mind seeing get dealt with because they royally pissed me off throughout this book. But I'm going to leave that alone before I start spoiling things.

This book had me in an absolute chokehold. I started reading it last night, stayed up WAY too late, couldn't sleep because I kept thinking about what was happening, and eventually just kept reading until I finished it. I genuinely did not want to put this book down.

And let's talk about the SPICE.

PHENOMENAL.

This was absolutely NOT a slow burn. We were IN IT TO WIN IT, and I was here for every second of it. But what made the intimacy between Tristian and Maksim so incredible wasn't just the spice itself. It was the passion, the history, and the years of built-up sexual tension and emotions between these two men.

You could FEEL that connection on every page. All those years of wanting, longing, frustration, and unresolved feelings finally had somewhere to go, and it made every intimate moment hit that much harder. Their chemistry was undeniable, but it was the emotional connection underneath it all that really got me.

And I think that's what I loved most about this book. It wasn't just about two men finding their way to each other. It was about learning to love someone through their struggles, understanding that love isn't always easy, and recognizing that being worthy of love doesn't mean you have to have everything figured out.

Between the emotional devastation, the chaos, the frustration, the phenomenal spice, and the sheer amount of love I developed for these two characters, I was completely invested from beginning to end.

This book made me laugh, cry, get angry, and fall in love with these characters over and over again. And even when they frustrated the absolute hell out of me, I couldn't stop rooting for them.

Vee absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. Now I'm sitting here trying to figure out how I'm supposed to choose between this and Beautiful Obsession, because apparently, picking a favorite is just not something I'm capable of doing.

Absolutely phenomenal. I loved every single second of it. ROUND OF APPLAUSE!!!

Loved it!!

Okay, so first I've all I've been waiting for Reckless Obsession for months just because it gave me an excuse to reread Beautiful Obsession (which remains one of my favourite reads this year). So if you haven't read that one yet, go pick it up now! It's sooo worth it.

In Reckless Obsession, we get the story of Maksim (Alex's brother) and his longtime crush/love Tristan. The story is complex and at times intense, but overall I found it to be a bit of a lighter read than Lucas and Alex's story. I adored Maksim, and his psychopathic chaos, and loved watching Tristan's progression from someone I mostly just wanted to strangle (lol) to someone who works to be worthy of Maksim's love and obsession. Despite being lengthy, the read went by quickly, and I enjoyed every page.

Cannot wait to see the story of future couples, especially Tyler!!

Reckless Obsession is a dark, age gap, forbidden romance. Maksim is a 22 years old, unhinged psychopath bottom, obsessed with his family’s lawyer, Tristian. Tristian is 20 years older, stoic and controlled. He made the mistake of sleeping with Maksim a couple years back after ending his divorce. Since, he has not made any advances and has purposefully pushed the younger man away.
Maksim, cause he is unhinged texts him all the time and threatens to kill him and his Ex, Jake, all the time.
After finally letting go of control for a moment, he has Maksim on his knees.

I DEVOURED this book! Like, seriously! This book does not have to be this hot! 🥵 The tension, the unhinged-ness of it all. Maksim is a masochist who loves to bait Tristian and Tristian is controlling but when he snaps, gives Maksim what he wants! Sigh! It’s so good! There is a lot of angst and spice and pining and hurt! And there is so much foreshadowing to the next couple books, so I am hyped and ready!
Enjoy!!! 🎉

Hurt. So. Good!!!! I love a story that makes you feel all the things. Maskim and Tristan’s relationship takes you on a roller coaster of emotions and I loved being along for the ride. I am really looking forward to the next installments of this world. Give me all the feelings. Make me throw my kindle. Make me cry. Make me laugh. Make me blush. Give me all the unhinged Petrovs!!!!!

I absolutely loved this book and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Made me cry like a baby. The characters are complex and flawed in ways that suck you in and make you care about them. Really hope we get more books in this world in the future.

This was EXACTLY what I was looking for when I picked up this book. The toxic relationship between Tristian and Maksim was just so well done. Maksim has been obsessed with Tristian from the moment he saw him and it’s a very, “I want him and nobody else can have him” type scenario. I’ll be honest, if I didn’t know there was an HEA, I would’ve been worried because these two go through so much and I was wondering how they were going to make it back. My heart just ached for them but especially Maksim. I did absolutely love Dante and I hope he gets a story as well because it would be so well deserved. Obviously loved getting more of Lucas and Alex along with Viktor, Anton, and Tyler. I just know Viktor and Tyler’s book is going to be so amazing as well!!

First of all, I have to say this book left me with my jaw on the floor. I could read about these two forever and a day and never tire of it. I feel like I cannot put into words how amazing this book is. If you thought the first book in this series was amazing, then get ready for this one because it will grab you by the throat and not let go. I couldn’t put this book down, and when I was forced to, it was the only thing that I thought about till I picked it back up. I have to say Tristian and Maksim are by far one of my favorite couples this year. Their push and pull was to die for, and the obsessiveness and the possessiveness that they both had for each other had me drooling for more. Also, don’t get me started on the jealousy from both characters. I ate that up like I was a starving man. But what I can tell you I loved most about this book is how hard they loved. Not just each other but their family and friends. The connection that they have towards the side characters brought out the best in them. Last of all, I have to say a huge thank you to author and friend Vee for the wonderful opportunity to beta read her amazing work. It was such an amazing read and I can’t get over the fact that the book is now over, and I have to go back to real life. Tropes: Jealousy, Obsessive/Possessive, touch him and die, pining/longing, it's only ever been you

I can't tell you how much I loved this book. Well I guess I can. I want to read it all over again, right now.
The mental health in this book can only be written by someone who has experienced it fully, it shows that Vee Eddy has. Also it shows the damage it can do "Empathy flickers in and out like a bad signal. Guilt comes late, if it comes at all. And by the time it does, the damage is already done."
This author can write about mental health
This author can write some of the hottest smut scenes I have ever read( the first BJ scene, omg!!!)
This author can write Dirty Talk
This author knows family bonds and friendship bonds
This author knows what healing is, in Dante's words "Sometimes healing means being able to look at the thing that broke you and finally decide what it means to you."
Vee Eddy has graced me with this book and Beautiful Obsession before it. Here is what I hope will happen when I stay here.
Tyler, Viktor, more about Tyler's brother Luiz, a book for Dante since he made me cry for at least two chapters, Anton, Elio, and Alex and Lucas's wedding.
