Bestselling author Helen Hanson writes thrillers about desperate people with a high-tech bent. Hackers. The CIA. Industry titans. Guys on sailboats. Mobsters. Their personal maelstroms pit them against unrelenting forces willing to kill. Throughout the journey, they try to find some truth, a little humor, and their humanity — from either end of the trigger.
While Helen writes about the power hungry, she genuinely mistrusts anyone who wants to rule the world.
Helen directed operations for high-tech manufacturers of semiconductors, video games, software, and computers. Her reluctant education behind the redwood curtain culminated in a B.S. in Business Administration with concentrated studies in Computer Science. She also learned to play a mean game of hacky sack.
She is a licensed private pilot with a ticket for single-engine aircraft. Helen and her husband spent their first anniversary with their flight instructor studying for the FAA practical. If you were a passenger on a 737 trying to land at SJC in 1995, she sends her most sincere apologies. Really.
Born in fly-over country, Helen has lived on both coasts, near both borders, and at several locations in between. She lettered in tennis, worked as a machinist, and saw the Clash at the San Francisco Civic Auditorium sometime in the eighties. She currently lives amid the bricks of Texas with her husband, son, and a dog that composes music with squeaky toys.

The first book, 3 lies, is another great read from Helen that kept me up at night when I should have been sleeping. Great character development. Realistic, well thought out story with details and behavior that ring true. I felt like I was there, and I was definitely trying desperately to help the good guys figure things out. The Master's Key continues the previous story, things just kept getting more convoluted and yet not. All the story lines make sense and tie back together. I love, or hate, the characters, as appropriate. They totally pull me into their world where I struggle along side them, trying to figure out the next move. I feel like I know and maybe worked with them. Character behavior is spot on. Computer technical info is correct and explained within the story so it doesn't bog things down. And the government bureaucracy, yep, I worked with them, oh wait, I'm not allowed to remember that. ;-) I was privileged to be a beta reader for Dead Storm, the third book and loved it. I thought it was the perfect story to continue the Master Series. All the characters we loved from the first two books, with all their strengths and weaknesses. All the characters we hated from the first two books. Plenty of action, character development, plot depth and Karma. As soon as it was released, I bought a copy of the finished book. Thanks for another great story, Helen. If you like techno thrillers with realistic characters grab this set.
Because I enjoyed 3 Lies so much I decided to get the rest of the books in the series wrapped into a box set.
This is a mixture of TechnoThriller, Political Intrigue, and Crime Fiction with dash of Romance thrown in.
3 Lies:
This sets the tone for and introduces the key characters of the series. Clint Masters, the brilliant rich guy who took time out from life after his wife, Paige asks for a divorce. During his funk, he buys a boat, adopts a dog, and meets a woman who is taken hostage. Elsewhere in the US, Doug, a young CIA agent, discovers some unusual code and brings it to the attention of some higher up than his boss. What do these events have to do with one another, maybe nothing or maybe everything... you'll have to read the story to find out.
The Masters' Key:
Clint Masters is back behind the desk of his company with even more responsibilities. The board who once wanted him back, is now trying to take control. Clint is trying to do the right thing and discovers there is a insane soul out to get him.
Dead Storm:
Clint is exhausted from fighting with the board and the people who want him gone from his own business. Now POTUS wants a piece of him, too. Will he be able to get past his personal demons to put things right?
Each subsequent book builds on the other, not only the plot line but shares different aspects of the characters that make them more believable as humans complete with personal issues they need to get past. I really enjoyed this series.
Warning: These stories are for Mature Audiences due Violence, Adult Language, and Sexual Situations.
My favorite escape books are thrillers, especially spy stories, and even better high tech ones. These three books are all of those things, with very real characters. I am looking forward to reading more from Hanson.
This is the first time I have ever written a book review. This series was so entertaining and real. All her characters are very believable. I love that all three books are a continuation of the one before. I cannot wait to read another.
