This is a 4.5 star read.

Another poignant tale featuring our new Soul Collector Jack. While trying to work out how exactly the soul collecting business works as well as some of his new "powers", we see Jack struggling to relive the last moments of his cheating wife so that he can collect her soul.

These first two stories of the series have brought about a few tears (OK, I'm a big softie!) and it is at the end of this novella that we are introduced to Jack's Soul Collector mentor, as well as the name of the next soul he is to collect. By the looks of it each book contains the story of a new soul to collect.

A wonderful series that I highly recommend.

The author introduces readers to Jack, a very interesting person who gas a unique job. In fact he just received it and is learning the ropes so to speak. As the reader follows Jack the incredible story unfolds and readers will find it is unlike any they have previously read. The author does an amazing job with this beautiful story that is going to have readers thinking about it long after they close the last page. I found this book extraordinary in the telling and the thought behind the story. Great job from an amazing author. Grab this one!

Written with as much creative genius as"Borrowed. Souls, Part 1" was, Part 2 was even more incredible. Waiting for each the rest of parts to come out is going to be pure torture. The only hope of relief is the blessed knowledge that the next part can't be too far off, can it?

Jack Duffy begins his new job as a soul collector and has to relive his unfaithful wife's last day and suffer through all the pain that brings him. Written with feeling and compassion this interesting twist on the grim reaper story gets better with every book.

His first day on the job and his first job is a doozy.
I doubt doctors, who look at facts and data would automatically assume just because the victim lived on a certain floor number fell from the floor ... And the chit chat about how sad no one has come to see her ... I know there’s plenty of people in the hospital who don’t get visitors....
Perhaps it’s because I’ve never been in a relationship in which either person was unfaithful, but the ending - just total forgiveness because she MEANT to break it off but still ended in bed together and died falling down stairs because she’s chasing after Jack to apologize or explain...? - and he just does? Well, I suppose it keeps his character in check. He’s still a wimp and spineless.
I liked the first couple chapters, in comparison to the first book, then it just leveled and tapered off.
And shouldn’t there be a clock ticking to get the job done? Why get a box if the person isn’t knocking on death’s door or dying yet? This certainly doesn’t come across as a thriller because the pace is too slow.

✴✴✴✴ Not perfect but pretty close.

An interesting story. Compelling lead character. I always want to continue on after the book is done, I do wish they were alittle longer. I guess that is because it truly is such a good read.

I can say this is getting better as the series gets along. I am hoping that somewhere in this mess that there will be some happy times. But from what I am seeing there maybe a lot of pain and sorrow for Jack. He still has a soul and he seems to have to experience the people's last moments that lead to their demise. So I will be reading on! Thank you to the Author for keeping it interesting.

"Now here I was, sitting next to a soulless body, and for all intents and purposes, I was no longer a living, breathing man, either."

Jack Duffy, was now a soul collector, Wilson retired giving Jack his position but leaving Jack with more questions than answers. Jack had the coin that he knew could help him see the past when he used it with his mark. Jack's first soul to collect was his cheating wife's, how she died was a mystery to Jack.

"I seem to keep mysteriously beaming, or whatever it's called, from place to place,"

Jack takes Wilson's rosary from his pocket before the police pick up his dead body. Like the coin it probably has a benefit, so Jack would need to figure it out.

Lots of questions, the reader can't help feeling sorry for Jack and his wife and the situation.
Great second story, now on to the third.

On the surface, it appears that the book is karmic retribution for a fairly nihilistic man. As you read, you learn that Jack and his wife Cindy completely misunderstood each other and they both paid a high price for their mistakes.
