The Billionaires #3

Lord & Master

Rate this book
My name is Mia Beck, and I’m a lucky girl . . .

Billionaire Damien Call didn’t magically stop being moody just because Jake and I moved in with him. Fortunately, I've devised a strategy. I inherited a share in an exclusive erotic club, and they’re beta testing a role-play game. Surrounded by period perfect detail, members pretend to be Edwardian lords and ladies . . . or stable masters, if they prefer.

By switching up our dynamic, I'm hoping to smooth the snags in our otherwise fabulous menage. Neither of my lovers has trouble opening his heart to me, but I suspect Damien would benefit from exploring his dominant side, and he and Jake could be easier with each other.

That’s my goal anyway. My plan might go up in smoke when Jake and Damien concoct their own scheme for me!

The Romance Review

Another glimpse into the life of triad Damien, Mia and Jake, sign me up! In Lord & Master, if readers are expecting a smoking hawt kinky contemporary threesome, it's time to reset your expectations. This book completely threw me. This story takes roleplay to another level. As in, the story goes from contemporary to historical kinky romance. Not a fan of this twist.

I avoid historical romances because for the most part, they no longer interest me. In this one, it feels as if 80% of the book is in the historical setting. One can't tell if Mia, Damien and Jake are actually playing a role or if they are really feeling what is going on in their roleplaying. Ms. Holly does a nice job of setting the roleplaying up. Mia wants to test run a week at their erotic club with a historical setting. Members want to enjoy being servants or aristocrats. Jake and Mia convince Damien to take a week off and beta test out the bugs before they offer it to members.

Now if this was just kinky BDSM roleplay, it would have been fine. Ms. Holly entwines relationship issues between the triad in this roleplaying. These deeper issues are to be resolved during the week. The thing is, what is reality and what is acting? It is a bit difficult for the reader to figure out. It could be done this way on purpose because even Mia and Damien are experiencing difficulty between reality and fantasy. This kind of writing is not good for me. I am not interested in mixing fantasy and reality in this manner for a fiction book. It's like a dream with in dream from the movie, Inception. Not something I was expecting.

Ms. Holly does a decent job of switching from one reality to another. The transitions still left me a little dazed and confused. The conflicts in this story are all resolved even if it isn't to my satisfaction. It is done in a realistic manner which makes me angry because I really wanted vindication for Damien. I wanted his family to see the truth of the matter but this will never happen. This makes me mad because the abuse Damien suffered is just not something I can let go. It's a violent ripping away of innocence and persecuting a victim which just leaves me frothing with rage. Fortunately for this sexy triad, they are able to make peace with Damien's past and they are all the better for it. From an erotic perspective, I loved the book. From the way the book is written, I mixed. Recommended for kink readers who want their contemporary and historical erotica at the same time.

So good it defies description

A conversation with my review buddy inspired me to do something just a bit different this time. You see Lord and Master had elements to it that just defied communicating. It’s that awesome. If you’ve read the blurb you know that the three characters from Beck and Call: Mia, Jake and Damien are once more the focus. This time they are beta testing a LARP (live action role-play) at Diogenes, an exclusive erotic club half owned by Mia. If you’ve ever been to a renaissance fair or the like you might have an idea of just how challenging it can be to stay in character and just how exciting. Still this didn’t totally explain my reaction to Lord and Master. I’m hoping our conversation will give you just that bit of enlightenment that is hard to convey.
Jean:
I'm still reading Lord and Master. I have about 50 pages left to go. I'm trying to think about what the element is that makes this story so freaking good. It's not the sex or the historical aspect as much as how in scene they stay.
Deb:
I had trouble with figuring it out to review it as well.
Jean:
Even her journal is right on for being in character. It’s that whole aspect of role playing you always wished you were that good at.
Deb:
Yes, they stay in scene. The journal confused me at the beginning. I thought it was her outline for the role-play since she'd just told the guys what her plan was and showed them her idea.
Jean:
And, beneath the role playing is a spark of truth to each of them and their hang-ups and foibles.
Deb:
Yeah, I got that a bit into it when I realized the journal is really her journaling the role-play.
Jean:
Hell, you are half way through the book before they break role-play and you see a glimpse of their modern selves. I think the other interesting thing about her journal is she is presenting it in role-play as well rather than her reaction to the role-play. It adds this other depth to the whole thing
Deb:
If you remember when Jake is telling Damien that it's not going to be hard to do this, he said: “You just be yourself but in another role.”
Jean:
Yep.
Deb:
I was trying to work that into the review to explain how each of them really was bringing themselves into the role-play more so than Mia realized.
Jean:
Yes, exactly.
Deb:
And, I'm sure you're noticing now that Mia intended to make this about Jake and Damien getting closer and D becoming more comfortable with J. BUT...it was HER issues that ended up being addressed.
Jean:
Yes I did notice but I'll find it interesting to discover what those issues are, other than her insecurity in Damien’s love.
Deb:
All of her fears really came out in how she reacted to what was going down. Oh, it's great how the guys deal with it. I just could not for the life of me get that into the review. But I don't think I wanted to do it anyway. You have to get it for yourself and that's the real fun of this book.
Jean:
I suppose her total reaction to being considered a strumpet or loose or what have you being involved with two men plays into it.
Deb:
A bit. The entire premise of the book was fantastic.
Jean:
Yeah, you would need to read and get it yourself to really enjoy the book as immensely.
Deb:
That's why I focused on Mia in my review, because she's really the one who pushed for this, thought it was needed, and it's told from her POV. But, at the end I said something like, “And Mia isn't the only one with an agenda.”
Jean:
Yeah they all have their own agendas.
Deb:
And holy ****, the sex was hot!
Jean:
LOL, she is a master at it isn't she?
Deb:
No kidding. And, they weren't even doing anything too off the wall.
Jean:
It’s not necessarily the acts themselves but the way she conveys it.
gmta
Deb:
Exactly. She had my heart pounding. I think a lot of it was the m/m factor. That just does it for me.
Jean:
It’s funny but that is a skill that I used to recall with certain writers back in the day before erotica was even permissible. The sexual tension they could build.
Deb:
Yeah, and there wasn't even anything to "see".
Jean:
I went to a workshop once about building tension. It was all about what moves a man makes on a woman and the order and placement and what each signified, all stemming from what was acceptable touch etc. in societies eyes.

So of course, our conversation devolved at that point and went off on other tangents. But the one thing the both of us agreed on… Lord and Master was an awesome read. I’ve always found reading Emma Holly’s books to be engaging and a great escape whether they were contemporary, paranormal, erotic or what have you. Lord and Master certainly lives up to and exceeds my expectations. I’d highly recommend it to anyone into both contemporary as well as the historical romance especially if they like a bit of erotic heat in their read.

I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lord & Master is the sequel to Beck & Call, book 2 in Emma Holly's Billionaires series. Do you need to read Beck & Call first? In my opinion, yes. Even though there's no cliffhanger at the end of Beck & Call, this sequel brings another layer to Mia, Jake, and Damien's sensual story. So you'll definitely want to find out how this sexy menage began.

Mia and Jake have moved into Damien's luxuriously modern apartment. Life should be wonderful, however, Mia has concerns about Damien. He seems to be withdrawing, not adjusting well to the situation. What Mia really thinks: Damien is having a hard time getting close to Jake. Not only is this Damien's first relationship with a man, Mia and Jake are the first lovers he has allowed into his very private world in a long time. So Mia devises a plan to bring Damien closer to Jake.

I truly like Mia. She's mature for her 23 years and she's a straight shooter, never afraid to speak her mind. She loves her men like crazy, will do anything for them, and is always concerned about their feelings. Mia wants this relationship to grow and she wants it to last. Jake has had both female and male lovers and he's an easy kind of guy to get along with. No secrets or confused feelings. But Damien...he's had a rough time of it with relationships and still has trouble giving himself completely.

Remembering how well their Victorian themed LARP (live action role play) session at Diogenes played out, Mia decides it's worth a shot again. The exclusive BDSM club is beta testing a new version of LARP where members can immerse themselves in historical themed play for an extended period of time, limited only by their imagination. And Mia's imagination has come up with what she hopes will bring Damien closer to Jake. This time she's switching up the dynamic with an entirely new scenario for the men.

I didn't think this menage could get any hotter. I was so wrong! Lord & Master's wonderfully unique story blew me away. It's written from Mia's point of view, with a fun twist. When their role play vacation begins the three lovers fall into character and we are suddenly reading the journal of Mia as the naive young Victorian woman she is playing. Ms. Holly did such a fantastic job I felt transported in time along with the players. The emotional depth, heart pounding sensuality and hot as hell sex between Mia, Jake, and Damien is made even more delicious by taking place during a time when such behavior was considered illicit. No question about it, these three belong together. One more thing... Mia isn't the only one with an agenda for the week.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

How do I love thee, Emma Holly? Let me count the ways…

When private investigators Mia Beck and Jake Reed began investigating Damien Call, neither of them anticipated falling in love with each other…or their target. Now, the three are living blissfully, but Mia thinks she knows of a way to get the men to become more affectionate with one another: invite them to a special role play game at her exclusive sex club, where the 3 of them can explore some of their delicious fantasies. Becoming early 1900's Edwardian figures for the week allows the 3 to get outside of their comfort zones and enjoy some much needed downtime. This new Mia, Damien and Jake get up to some risqué fun...and learn some hard truths about their unconventional relationship in the process.

LORD & MASTER is the third book in the sexy as sin The Billionaires Series and the sequel to BECK & CALL. I loved Mia, Damian and Jake in that book, and I loved them just as much, if not more, in LORD & MASTER. The three of them have this terrific power exchange that's both fun and erotic as hell. Even though "technically," Jake is the most dominant of the three, Mia encourages Damien to take on that role too (and she gets her chance once in a while as well). Not only was the sex sinfully wildly crazily decadent, but it was such a unique take on the typical historical romance that we all know and love!

And naturally, because it's an MMF read, the book was made even more delectable for yours truly. I particularly enjoyed when the characters slipped out of their 1900's personas here and there (particularly Sawyer), and after awhile it became hard to tell whether the modern or acting was winning out. Though there were a good amount of editing errors in LORD & MASTER, because the story was so unique and fun it they didn't detract from my overall enjoyment.

Bottom Line: EVERYTHING by Ms. Holly is phenomenal, and LORD & MASTER is no exception. Fans of MMF, historical, contemporary and just about anything else will adore this one! - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

This Is a great follow up to Emma Holly’s Beck & Call. Lord & Master is a wonderful sequel in the Billionaires series. Do you need to read book 1 to understand book 2, not really. I really loved book 2. Tissues will be needed at times for some scenes , just saying.
Mia and Jake have moved in with Damien, at his request into his posh place. Mia and Jake feel like he is pulling away from them. Mia thinks maybe he is having a hard time getting close to Jake and maybe this is his first time being with a man in an intimate relationship way. Mia feels maybe if they all went away and had time together, they would be able to get closer together. Mia has an idea that can bring Damien together with Jake and in essence, bring them together. Jake isn’t sure but he tells her to set it up and to do it. Mia sets up this Victorian themed live action role play vacation at Diogenes to help them dive into this role playing which will, in turn, help Damien become more accepting of Jake in poly relationship. BUT this time, Mia has a whole new game play on the table in the theme play and it is fantastic. The visions played out are panty melting and this time , it’s a whole new erotic fantasy that Mia has and this time Damien has the lead.
I didn’t think Lord & Master could get better than Beck & Call but OMG, it is. It is panty melting, has moments of heart of heart intensity with the MC that you just ooohh and ahhhh over and the connection between spell binding. But there is one moment that I literally gasped and had chills. Ms. Holly really out did herself and I hope there is going to be a book 3 because I want to read more about Mia, Jake and Damien. Their time together away from all is a hit and it seems isn’t just one person who had expectations and set plans for this weekend. When you read this story, you will see and be surprised because it is least expected from this person…and you will come to love them /them all more . And another thing about this story is the heat level—it is explicit, heart pounding, full of carnal moves between all. It is thoroughly entertaining and I cannot say enough good things about this book.

WOW, After reading "Beck and Call", this is just a tasty treat!!
I won't give anything away, if you want to know what happened after that first book, and how their relationship with the Threesome is working, you'll need to get it and read!!
I enjoyed that we see how far they have came along in their relationship, before we understand were the story is taking us, and Oh, does this story takes us into understand which one is still having their own problems.
Jake, Mia and Damian take"work vacation" for Diogenes, that Mia wants to beta test a Edwardian themed LARP (live action role play), in hopes to bring their bond closer while spending time together. As they proceed, more things are realized by the Threesome, along with so much more. GOD!! Emma Holly has me wanting to read more about this Threesome, Love another BOOK!! (HINT, HINT)
I adore how far they came and the more relaxed side of each other is so wonderful to see. Emma Holly characters are complex, with so many sides, with her talented writing brings is all together!!
I have to say with the creative way she draws out scenes, talented way she makes each character have their own personality an brings that character to life, and the amazing way she pulls it all together, I am a Big FAN!!
I highly Recommend this to all that love a erotica romance(with-m/m/f), with period role playing and this is for 18 + older!!

- Guys: Jake and Damien
- POVs Included: Single Female POV (Mia)

SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)

Mia is worried about Damien lately. Since her and Jake moved in with him, life hasn’t been as blissful as she had hoped. Damien still seems distant and she’s worried he’s regretting them moving in and that he’s pulling away from them.

So she makes a plan. The sex club she is part owner of has been putting together a LARPing type of feature that she thinks might help them get away from it all. When she proposes trying it to Jake and Damien they agree. So they enter into a live action role play of Edwardian proportions.

REVIEW:

This was awful. Just terrible.

What I expected from this book: An extended epilogue of sorts for Mia/Damien/Jake that would give us lots of great mmf sexy times while solidifying their bonds as a throuple.

What I got: An historical romance novel masquerading as a contemporary romance novel.

I like historical romance. But if I wanted to read a historical romance…I’d read a damn historical romance novel! I didn’t pick this up for that and I was really disappointed by the direction this book went in.

I like role playing in erotica books. I really do. But in this case they take it so seriously that it’s like they ARE completely different characters in a completely different book. Even inside Mia’s own POV she doesn’t break character. And honestly it was just a little awkward and weird.

It isn’t until about 50% into the book that they break character for a few pages before they jump back into the role playing again for the majority of the book!

One or two chapters of staying in character while role playing is one thing. But the whole book? Seriously?

And the much needed work their REAL relationship needed was severely lacking because of this. But apparently through the role playing they got what they needed because in the end they work out their issues in a couple pages and Damien proposes to Mia. And voila! Everything is good!

And speaking of marriage. I really dislike characters getting married in ménage’s and RH’s because it makes the entire relationship with the other men feel lopsided and off. Unless there’s a ceremony for everyone I don’t want to see this in this type of romance. There’s too much favoritism there and I’m not a fan of that in these types of relationships.

Overall this was just disappointing. Honestly this series is so weird. The books and characters are in no way connected. And even the last book (the one after this one) isn’t a ménage! It’s weird. I don’t plan to read the last book in the series. This one could’ve safely been skipped. The first two books in the series are good enough to recommend, but I wouldn’t recommend continuing after that.

I had a great time reconnecting with my favorite trio, but this book threw me for a bit of a loop. Not in a bad way, whatsoever. But it was a distinctly different sort of story than its predecessor.

Part of what I loved about Beck & Call was that the three characters grow into a relationship together. During the immersive role-playing drama of the sequel, we're returning to tried and true narratives, where the lord of the manor wants to share his new wife with his long-time friend.

That didn't bother me as much as the uneven method of story-telling. After the "prologue," the voice switches to Mia completely immersing herself into the storyline of the game. But I didn't want innocent Edwardian Mia -- I wanted modern Mia, and her thoughts about playing the game, especially during some emotionally intense (non-sexual) scenarios. About halfway through the book, we're jerked out of that period mindset and things switch back to the "actual" characters. Afterward, there's a bit more back and forth, where we get modern Mia's interpretation of the life she's portraying, especially as real-world events intrude on their immersive vacation. I'd rather have maintained consistency of voice through the entire novel.

The choice of POV also confused me because it seemed like the "point" of this extensive exercise was to deepen the connection between Jake and Damien. I'd loved to have experienced their thoughts about the scenarios rather than being stuck in the head of the person who's already sure of her love and commitment.

Criticisms aside, this was still a fun read with some delightful sexy bits. The usual anachronisms I'd have picked at in an actual period novel were easy to let slide because the other "characters" in the book were also modern people diving into a fun role-playing experience. Emma Holly is an author I look forward to continuing reading.

This was definitely a highly entertaining sexual historical novel it seemed because I honestly thought she went back in time ⁉️ The only thing I missed was the menage experience... Even though I did like to see where they both traded off entering her.

Mia Beck and Jake Reed have moved in with their lover, Damien Call, and while they are still adjusting to each other’s personalities and moods, life is pretty dang good in Mia’s opinion. Not long ago, Mia learned that she had inherited a part of an exclusive BDSM club that they all enjoyed. Now, the club is looking at doing something a bit different, and Mia has volunteered her and her men to be the people to test it out. Now, she only has to get both Jake and Damien to agree to it.

Jake and Damien agree to spend the week with Mia in an intense role-playing set in old England—think of a kinky “Upstairs/Downstairs”-type show. But they have a few requirements and twists that they are keeping secret from Mia. Mia is hoping that this week will bring them all closer together and break down that wall she feels when they are all close. What begins as a fun role-play week, quickly turns into reality as Mia, Jake, and Damien all give themselves over into the game. Their chemistry burns even hotter as the week rolls on, and their relationship seems to be getting event more solid. Yet, as the week comes to a close, Mia is worried that when the three of them step back into their real-world lives, they will lose some of what they have gained. But on that final night of all the actors and some of the club members celebrating the successful week, Mia will learn just what Jake and Damien are thinking of their relationship and what the future is to bring for them all.

Three lovers begin a week of kinky role-play and, along the way, they find an even brighter future for them all in Lord and Master. Right off the bat, I will say that I enjoyed seeing another chapter in the lives of Mia, Jake, and Damien. I also enjoyed watching as they immersed themselves deeply into their roles and how they grew as those roles played on. I will definitely say that if you are a lover of the old English show “Upstairs/Downstairs” or even “Downton Abby” and enjoy kink, you will not want to miss this book. I loved seeing as Jake and Damien sprang their surprises in the game upon Mia and how she struggled to understand what was behind them and then lovingly flowed into each and every one. As far as I could see, they all gained during their week of play. I will also admit to being surprised myself by the last surprise which was sprung upon Mia and just how it will change and deepen their love as a threesome. Lord and Master is an excellent story of passion, role-play, and, of course, the perfect touch of BDSM bringing Mia, Jake, and Damien closer together. If you read Beck and Call, then this is a must-read is all I have to say.

How disappointing. Considering the tension and heat the author brought to the 'historical' scene in the first book, I was all on board for this book. I mean, what a great idea: fictional characters LARPing - it's like a book within a book. Unfortunately, this was poorly thought out and ill-executed. The fictional Mia spent way too much time lamenting about a relationship that wasn't real - and yes, the author did try to advance the 'real' relationship through the 'fake' one, but the whole thing fell flat. And the sex didn't even begin to approach the intensity that was found in the first book.

Lord & Master is a fantastic sequel to Beck & Call. In Beck & Call Mia & Jake hook up with Damien and move in with him at the end. In Lord & Master Mia talks Jake and Damien into a LARPing vacation with a sexy side. Watching these three lovers in an Edwardian period fantasy is hot, sexy and delightfully dirty. Watching them grow closer together just pulls the heartstrings. Lord & Master will make you sweat. I totally enjoyed this latest from Emma Holly.

Not as sassy as Beck & Call, and the period immersion game threw me a little bit off, because all three characters were so serious about their roles, and yet you still knew they were playing. However, it was sweet. Recommended.

* * *

#3 in a very good series. The characters in books 2 & 3 are the same. #1 is not connected but I feel as if they inhabit the same world. Lots of very hot scenes. I listed it on my historical shelf but really it's contempo. The MC's just do a lot of LARPing in the Edwardian era. It's most of the book actually. This is usually not a fave of mine, but I adore almost all of Ms. Holly's books so I had to go on and I'm glad I did. Already have #4 ready to go. :-)
