Following the events of Evening Wolves, the city of Crescent is still recovering from the Crisis in the throes of a cold and bitter winter. Only former Homeland Security Agent Henry Morell, caught between two very different potential employers in the police and the private sector, both of which are brought together in a harrowing string of billionaire assassinations, sees the thread between each killing and the devastating blow an ancient group of terrorists are planning to deal the world economy. In a new series from Luke Taylor, spun from the yarn of Evening Wolves and stretching from the steel and glass corporate coffin of Crescent to the Nation’s Capitol, the frozen shores of the Baltic and beyond to the deserts of Egypt, Henry Morell and his allies must survive the gauntlet of secrets, lies, greed, revenge, and hollow point bullets to stop the threat once and for all.

If you aren't reading Luke Taylor's series that started with "Evening Wolves", you're really missing something! For fans of international crime novels, mystery novels, and a bit of history thrown in. I'm all-in with this new author. The novels read like movies or TV series. The characters are heroic, yet flawed. The voices of the characters ring true to the ear. Crescent City is an urban area like so many, the haves and have-nots living on separate sides of town. I cannot recommend this author and these first two books of the series highly enough!
Picking up a few months after the conclusion of Evening Wolves, Luke Taylor’s Shatterpoint Alpha follows the story of Henry Morell. In post-Crisis Crescent City, Morell is seeking a change of scenery from Homeland Security. Offered a position at the prestigious Tidebender International, a private security firm, Morell is certain he’s leaving behind the tumultuous life of Homeland Security for good. However, on what is meant to be his first day, one of the clients of Tidebender International is murdered in such a way that Morell suspects old enemies are abound. Paired again with his colleagues at Crescent PD, Morell must confront a demon from his past, while trying to evade accusations against him. Will he solve the case before another client meets a deadly end?
Welcoming back familiar characters, Shatterpoint Alpha by Luke Taylor does not disappoint. It’s almost as if you’re watching a film, with all the political and crime drama unfolding before your eyes. The subtle twists and turns of the novel will keep readers hanging on to find out what happens next. There were moments where I found some of the character plotlines hard to follow, but as you read on, those seem to fall nicely into place. I particularly liked the point of view of the assassin antagonist, but I will not say more so as not to reveal any details of the plot! I adored the tie in with old, Russian traditions and mysterious organizations. Again, Mr. Taylor has impeccable descriptive talents, something sure to draw the reader in from the start, and even though there is a bit of a cliffhanger, it’s certainly worth the read. It’s never a dull moment in Shatterpoint Alpha, and I look forward to the story continuing in Shatterpoint Bravo.
