DEATH HAS STALKED THE WORLD AND FEW HAVE SURVIVED. A quick swift flu hit without warning, except to Gilbert Wolf and his blood brothers. His vision was very vivid of the dying time. A few families have gathered together to survive and through the years have prospered and spread out. Invaders now have come to raid and murder, a gang that fancies themselves New Age Huns. A young daughter named Rose has been captured by the Huns and must find a way to escape or die trying. The Huns have taken on more girl than they can handle. The conclusion is in book 2 "After the Dying Gray's Heart"
The world as we know it has changed. An enhanced flu ravaged the world leaving the survivors with little of modern day infrastructure or conveniences. A few families were able to mostly escape this flu from Gilbert's vision of the dying time and move into the mountains. Many years later, the families have settled after surviving nature and man. Rose is a wanderer and was too young to remember the truly difficult times and battles to keep them safe. News of invaders setting up in the nearby valley intrigue her and she goes for a closer look. These invaders believe themselves to be new age Huns, take what they want, make others their slaves, and hold women as possessions. This does not bode well for Rose when she is captured.
A captivating read and very difficult to put down after I started. I was anxious for Rose from the start and her attitude greatly differs from the Hun women and what is expected of a female slave. I love the families that have banded together and their support of one another as well as the training they maintain to keep themselves safe.
